Blog Tour: Fighting Silence (On The Ropes #1) by Aly Martinez - Bianca and Derna's Reviews, Excerpt, and Giveaway
I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
Fighting Silence reminds me of why I not only read books by this author. I LIVE them.
Forced to grow up fast, Till Page feels like the weight of the world is left on his shoulders. His parents are non-existent, and he is raising his two brothers, Flint and Quarry. One night, at the age of thirteen, Eliza Reynolds enter’s Page life and he is forever changed. His forever darkness finally has a light. They become forever connected due their circumstances. Their connection cannot be simply explained by words. The author simply allows you to feel it. Everything. Best friends that fall in love, except one is fighting for the fantasy, while the other is living in reality.
“I'd never had anything I could call my own, but Eliza Reynolds would always be mine.”
The author brilliantly captures the resiliency of the human spirit in Fighting Silence. While faced with an inevitable future of eventually going deaf, Till finds solace in his Eliza. Eliza is home. She becomes the good in his life. Despite the fact that he works tirelessly to provide for his brothers and himself, Till never complains. He doesn’t concentrate on the difficult hand in life he was dealt. If anything he pushes harder. Works harder. Inside and outside of the ring. The word Fighter takes on a completely different meaning when it comes to Till. Till is up against a lot adversity in all aspects of his life. But his love for his brothers and Eliza never wavers. He loves Eliza with a love so fierce. Till loves with conviction, his entire being. Till desires Eliza. To love is one thing, but to be desired is powerful. This story attests to the truth that love endures, it overcomes. At all times. It pushes. And it pulls. Love simply shatters.
“... he was the only thing I’d ever had that I honestly though I couldn’t live without. Till Page was my soulmate on every level.”
I am vague with the plot of this story for a reason. Fighting Silence is Till and Eliza’s journey...in life and in love. You are to experience their story. There is so much growth and development with the characters. Every single one. You will find yourself easily immersed in the story as its written seamlessly and flows easily. Your heart will break for them. It will ache. Regardless of your situation their story WILL resonate with you.
Don’t go into Fighting Silence thinking it’s your average fighter story. If anything all fighter books should strive to be like Fighting Silence. There is such power in the words throughout the book. OH THE WORDS. The author poured out her heart and soul into this story. I believe if her heart could talk it would be the words of love that came from Till and Eliza. The love is unlike everything you’ve experienced in reading. It’s deep. Consuming Overwhelming. The emotions are raw. This beautiful and compelling story is a must read.
***I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ***
Fighting Silence By Aly Martinez is the first book in her new series On The Ropes. Aly has such a way with words, and she is one of my favourite Authors. I love her writing style, and the way her words flow. Her previous books have always been passionate and emotional, and straight from her great, and she has a way of making me become immediately invested in the lives of her characters. Well, Fighting Silence was no different it was everything I expected and more. It was beautiful, raw, touching, moving, and engaging from the start.
Till Page, is a fighter, and you know I love my fighters, but his story is not your typical fighter story. His story is going to pull on your heartstrings. His parents are a waste of time, and only seem to care about themselves, and therefore he takes care of his two brothers. Growing up was not easy, but when he meets Eliza Reynolds at thirteen things seem to become a little brighter. Eliza is the girl who stole his heart; the girl he knew was always his, the love of his life, his forever. The girl who over the years was the one person he could turn too. The girl he could rely on when he has to fight his biggest fight.
“There was nothing in this world that was ever more mine than you”
On the outside, Till has a tough exterior, but Eliza is the girl who sees through it. Eliza has a big heart and will do anything for the boy who stole her heart also at thirteen, and who she too could rely on.
“I’d have been happy to just sit in an empty room for the rest of my life as long as he was sitting beside me”
“He was the only thing I’d ever had that I honestly thought I couldn’t live without. Till page was my sole mate on every level”
Loved Till and Eliza bond, they share such a deep friendship, and I loved the way it develops over the years. I love when friends who share such a connection become more. I got that feeling from the start that when their friendship turns into some more it will be amazing. You could see that Till and Eliza truly belong together. Till’s journey is an emotional one; and not an easy one, and my heart broke for him and Eliza at times.
“I just need you. It doesn’t matter where we are”
“No matter how bad I fuck things up, we make this work. Forever.”
Fighting Silence was one of those books that once I started to read I didn’t want to put down, about family, love, soul mates, hope, trust, dreams, and more. Loved how Aly incorporated some of my favourite characters from her previous books into this one, and love how they all added to the story. The build up to the ending was exciting; Aly had me on the edge of my seat, as I was desperate to know how it was going to end. It was a bittersweet ending as Till fight may be over, but it just began for someone very close to him. So it’s safe to say that the next book in the series Fighting Shadows is going to put me through an emotional roller coaster.
Well done Aly you have done it again. I recommend that you 1-click this one today.
"That wasn't yours to take away," he exploded into the otherwise silent night. His words echoed off the surrounding buildings, each wave slicing me to the quick all over again. "That was ourplace. Not yours." His voice cracked right alongside my heart.
"Yeah, well, there was a lot of stuff that wasn't yours to take either." I held his gaze, desperately trying to be strong, but as his eyes grew wide, I whimpered.
His long legs strode forward, stopping only inches away from me. He was crowding me, but he still leaned in closer to my face. "There is nothing in this world that was ever more mine than you," he stated. Though it was the absolute truth, I wished with all my heart that it were a lie.
"Till," I cried, swiping the tears from my eyes.
"Why!" he shouted, causing his muscles to tense under the force. "Goddamn it! I needed that place."
Porch lights flashed on from the surrounding apartments, illuminating not only the dark but also my rage.
I shoved my hands into his chest. "What about what I needed? You left! I waited in that fucking apartment for weeks."
He didn't budge, but my bare feet slipped, sending me toward the ground. Impossibly fast, Till's hand snaked out and caught my arm. I didn't let his chivalrous gesture douse my fire. I had six months’ worth of words to say to the man I was irrevocably in love with.
"You took what you wanted. Then you left me."
"Doodle," he whispered.
I had been perilously close to the edge of insanity, and with one single word, he’d pushed me over.
I lost it completely.
Pounding my fists against his chest, I screamed at the top of my lungs, "It's Eliza! My name is fucking Eliza! Not Doodle!" I spun to march away, but Till's arms folded around me, lifting me off my feet to restrain me.
I was miniscule compared to him. There was no use in fighting, but I still kicked my legs, irrationally desperate to get away from him—but only because I knew I couldn't keep him for forever.
"Stop it!" he growled into my ear. "I know your Goddamn name—probably better than I know my own."
After turning on “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child I got to work on the pancakes. The butter was melting in the glass pie pans in the oven while I whisked the batter and sang along to the song. “After all of the darkness and sadness. Soon comes happiness.” Setting the bowl down on the counter, I danced over to the oven to pull the pans out and continued to shake my ass.
When I turned back around to get the bowl, I noticed Blake leaning against the wall in the doorway watching me with humor dancing in his eyes. “As a child I dreamt of finding Wonder Woman dancing provocatively in my kitchen while making dinner. Guess they’re right when they say, never give up on your dreams.” He smirked as he pushed off the wall. “You look hot. Don’t let me stop you.”
He grabbed a bottle of sparkling water and perched himself on a stool. “What are you making anyway?”
“German pancakes. A friend and I used to make them growing up. They are the perfect mix of sweet and salty with the butter and syrup combo . . . and can make a very sticky mess.”
“A sticky Wonder Woman? Wow. This just keeps getting better.”
I placed the pans back in the oven to bake and put the bowl in the sink to soak. “So Doc McHottie has a thing for Wonder Woman, huh?” I taunted him while wiping my hands on a kitchen towel.
“Doc McHottie has a thing for the Wonder Woman that was dancing in his kitchen a few moments ago.”

Beneath, You’re Beautiful is the continuation of Victoria’s brave battle with the big C. As if that wasn’t enough, Victoria had to overcome betrayal, heartache and how to go it alone. But luckily for Victoria, she was never on her own, she had great support in the form of family, friends and a hot doctor!
Beneath, You’re Beautiful is a story of hope, new beginnings and love. Victoria’s final instalment wasn’t always plain sailing and heartache was never far away but I loved the strength and resilience of her character. As the author is writing from experience, I thought her Victoria’s journey was captured perfectly. Her struggle was real and her mask of bravery was slipping but it showed she was only human and I could relate to that.
“I just got back from enjoying the most relaxing days I’ve had in months, and I don’t even know how to react to any of it. Be strong, be resilient, be tough-I’m none of those things right now. I’m nothing but a fragile woman trying to figure out what the hell happened to me in the last six months.”
Dr. McHottie was introduced this time around and he was the best medication for Victoria. She had been betrayed in the past and even though she was hesitant to put her trust in Blake, he soon won her around. And he truly was a sweetheart so that was easy to do.
“When you love someone, you love them for better or worse, in sickness and in health. Noah ruined that vow for me, but maybe I’m willing to let Blake show me it’s possible.”
I enjoyed this second book from Tori Madison; it had the romance element I missed from the first book, although I understood why it had to be this way, it was nice to see the introduction of Blake’s character. I did feel the dialogue was a little stilted at times and the romance was a tad over sweet for my liking but with that aside, it really is an empowering tale and for many women in this situation a story like this will be uplifting.
“Life is unexpected, as you know all too well, but sometimes the unexpected moments are the most important. You can’t see the whole picture at once, but you’ll know when it comes into focus.”
Beneath, You’re Beautiful is a heart-warming story and one to check out for yourself.

I wasn't prepared to hear those words. Neither was my loving husband, family or friends. And none of us were prepared for what life had in store after they were spoken.
I should have seen the signs all around me. I should have paid attention to the people who supposedly loved me, the people who I'd always trusted. But I was blind to what was going on. The effects on my flourishing career, passionate marriage, and carefree lifestyle would be insurmountable.
It was time to take control of my life and the overwhelming chaos. Time to make the choices that were right for me. Right for my future. The future I hadn't planned on.
My life didn't stop when I heard those four little words . . . it was only just beginning.

Wings Over Poppies (Book #2)
I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
THIS BOOK. Where do I even begin? My heart continues to sing over this story and it’s main characters. Wings Over Poppies had everything my heart was craving in a story. I loved the first in the series. But this one?! I felt every single word from the beginning to the end.
“I want to be enough for you. I want it more than the air I breathe.”
Alexandra (Alex) Fontaine lives a perfect life. Well that’s the plan for her made by her parents. When she stumbles upon West Adler by an oak tree, her perfect life is no more. He comes in and is everything she shouldn’t want. Little does Alex know that she is everything West wants, but he can’t have. They live in two different worlds. She lives, while he tries to survive. Despite the love they feel for each other, being together isn’t an option.
“If anyone can move the sun and the stars, it’s him.”
Circumstances force Alex and West apart. Both are left broken, as their life lines becomes severed. Neither one ever felt closure. Six years later, they end up back in the same place where it all began. West returns a broken man. In every sense possible. But one thing remains...the love in his heart for Alex. No matter how much he denies his feelings for her, his soul knows otherwise. Alex has tried, but her heart could never love another man like she did West. So she decides to fight. She puts her all into him. But what happens when you being to fight for the person who has given up on you? You simply push harder. The heart always knows what it wants. The heart searches for one to call it’s own. And you don’t give up on your heart.
“I’m not trying to fix you, West. I want you to see that I love you, even though you’re broken.”
Their love is sweet, yet passionate. But years later? Their live is consuming. Overwhelming. They love with conviction. YEARS later. They find home in each other. HOME. Alex and West are fate. Their love overcomes. Their love endures. If you are a lover of second chances, you must read this book.
“I’ll stay with you, breathe with you, be with you, just like this, until the panic washes away.”
I am not sure if I can truly put into words my love for Wings Over Poppies. Even the title has such a deep meaning. It’s beautiful. I felt every emotion. I fell in love as they fell in love. This goes beyond your average second chance romance. It goes DEEP. These two have an unmistakable connection that is felt from the very moment they meet. This poignant story is a true example of the resiliency of the human spirit.
“Don’t you know? You are not my burden. Never.” “You? You are my gift.”
Wings Over Poppies is a brilliant and breathtaking story. I know I am vague in the plot of the story, but that is because this story is to be experienced by the reader. For books like this, you do not simply read. You live. My heart continues to beat over this story. It’s heartfelt, captivating, and made me a fan of the author for life. She so effortlessly captures the feeling of falling in love all over again.
Hope Over Fear (Book #1)
I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
Sara Preston shattered the heart of her best friend, Mason. She left him in pieces. And didn’t look back. She loved him enough to let him go. But even as she watches Mason move on and fall in love with someone else, she carries a lot of guilt. Even with Mason finding happiness, Sara doesn’t feel worthy of happiness. When Sara meets Adam Hunt, the spark she is missing seems to be found in him.
“I don’t want to run. And that’s the best fucking feeling in the world.”
Your heart will feel for Sara and the heavy feeling she lives with on her chest because of what she did to Mason. You will also understand that she couldn’t just settle. While she loved Mason with her entire being, there was no light in their relationship. Adam is different. She feels a connection with him. It’s natural, not overbearing. They simply work. They find them selves falling slowly, effortlessly for the other. But Adam’s heart is not so ready to let Sara all the way in.
“When he looks at me, I feel confident, beautiful, and completely inhabited.”
Sara and Adam’s story is unlike anything I’ve ever read. Without giving anything away, they truly demonstrate the power in love and how it can shatter yet put someone and their pieces back together again. There is this indescribable chemistry between Sara and Adam. You feel their heartbeats change rhythm the moment they meet. These two harbor guilt, although differently, they find that in order to truly love again, they must choose hope over fear. That you don’t run away from love, you simply run straight into it, head on. No inhibitions. Because it is only then that you truly begin to fall.
“Please don’t fall into yourself. Fall into me, Sara. Because God knows I’ve fallen into you.”
Hope Over Fear is a beautiful story about love and never settling. It’s about knowing the love you know you deserve and not accepting any less. It is not the easiest love story, but it is heartfelt. You watch two people put their happiness first, for once. You will live their story. You will tear up, you will also laugh. I am a bit surprised that this was a debut novel. The author effortlessly wrote a heartfelt story with unforgettable characters.
I shift closer to him and wrap my arms around his waist. I lay my head on his chest and breathe him in. His shoulders relax, if only slightly. The need to comfort him is overwhelming. I want to wash it all away for him, hold the world at bay while I erase the worry permanently etched in his forehead.
“Everything is going to be okay, West. I just know it,” I lie. I don’t know that everything will be okay. I don’t know anything at all.
We sit in electrified silence, the crackling of dead leaves under us the only sound. I memorize the feel of him, the smell of him, the rhythm of his breathing. I’m lost in the moment, already anticipating the loss that’s to come.
“I leave in a month.”
The words cut through the silence like a judgment. Instead of hurt, I’m filled with resolve. I won’t let him push me away anymore. I’m done playing by his rules.
I rise up to meet the storm brewing in his eyes. His hand wraps firmly around my neck, and his eyes dart hungrily to my lips. I swallow nervously and refuse to look away.
If he turns his head or pulls my hair, I swear I’m going to tackle him to the ground.
I lean in hopefully, somewhat expectantly, and close my eyes. His warm breath dances across my lips, and my every prayer is answered. He presses his mouth firmly to mine and stills, almost memorizing the moment.
That one small touch is the beginning of the most memorable kiss of my life. It’s hello and goodbye, I love you, I’ll miss you, and everything in between.
He sucks my bottom lip, and I inhale sharply, completely overcome. His hands dive into my hair, and his tongue slides against mine just once before he pulls away. He touches my forehead to his and chuckles softly.
“What have we been waiting for all this time?”
“You,” I whisper breathlessly, “I’ve been waiting for you.”
My admission is all he needs. He devours me, a tangle of lips, teeth, tongues, and hands. I don’t know where I end and he begins. I’m exhilarated and relieved all at once.
I run my hands down his arms and grip his wrists tightly. I pull away and look into his hooded eyes.
“Tell me something, West. Tell me something I don’t know.”
He runs a thumb over my swollen lips while he studies me. I’ve never felt more loved, more worshipped.
“I can’t imagine a world without you in it. No matter where I am, I’ll always dream of you. It’ll have to be enough.” He places soft, scorching kisses up my neck until he reaches my ear. “God, I don’t think it’ll ever be enough.”
A new novel in the Thoughtless series from
#1 New York Timesbestselling author S. C. Stephens!
I’m sure like many other readers, when I heard that S.C. Stephens was writing Kellan Kyle’s POV in Thoughtful to say I was excited would be an understatement. It was going to be one of my must reads for 2015, and then when I saw that it had downloaded on my Kindle a few weeks ago I did a happy dance. I couldn’t wait to read Sexy KK’s POV during Thoughtless.
“Being in love was hard. But not being in love was even worse”
As I started reading my memories of reading the first three books in the series came flooding back my love for sexy KK and my dislike for Keira. I just didn’t want to put it down, and I knew it was going to be an emotional and angsty, and it was. Kellan’s POV is going to tear you apart. If you think you knew what Kellan was going through during Thoughtless, well you should think again. You won’t understand the depth of his heartache it until you read this book and see it all through his eyes.
‘I would never be the same after this. We would never be the same after this.’
We get to see all his insecurities, sensitive and vulnerable side, his fears, and his love and relationship with his band mates. His love for music, his anguish over betraying Denny, and we learn more about his parents. But most importantly, his love for Keira, the girl that stole his heart from the moment she walked through the door of Pete's bar!!
“This girl… even seeing her through a crowd, there was something about her that sang to me. It nearly stopped me in my tracks”
He loves this girl hard even with all crap she puts him through. I will admit there were times that I was shouting at KK telling him that she is not worth it. But in the end, it was simple “ The heart wants what the heart wants” And without a doubt Kellan's heart wanted Keira.
“She saw me. She understood me. Well she understood the parts of me I let her see”
Thoughtful is a long one with nearly 600 pages, but it’s safe to say I love it. I was hooked after I swiped the first page, and I was emotionally exhausted by the time I had swiped that last. I didn’t think S.C Stephens could make me love Kellan any more than I already did, but she does. My heart broke for him as I read his story. Yes, I knew what was going to happen, but S.C Stephens writes Kellan’s story in a way that it didn’t feel as if I was just rereading Thoughtless. She gives us everything; she doesn’t hold back. As for Keira my feeling for her were that same, I didn't like her, and I had lots of issues with her, there were time when I was thinking someone pleased hold me back as I want to slap. However that being said I did warm to her a little in the end.
“She was my greatest pain, and my only salvation. She was the only one who could heal this hole in my heart, a hole she'd torn open”
Thoughtful is a must read for all you Kellan fans. It’s a heartfelt, emotional and beautiful story and great addition series. You will not be disappointed. S.C. Stephens writing is faultless, and It’s has left me wanting more I could happily go back and reread Effortless and Reckless. And oh how I have missed Griffin, he is just too funny, and I can’t wait to read his story in Untamed (Thoughtless #4) due for release November 2015.
I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
Be still my beating heart. Kellan Kyle. If you didn’t hold a place in my heart before, you now own EVERY single piece of it.
Thoughtless. We all read it. We saw the heartbreak. Scratch that. We FELT it. But little did you know that you do not even know half of what Kellan went through. Thoughtful truly allows the reader to see Kellan’s heart, the good, the bad, and how truly beautiful he is. You understand the depths of his love for Kiera. From the moment they met. You feel his pain, his longing for love and his need to be loved back. Unconditionally.
“I wrapped my fury around me like armor. Let her try to find a crack. I dared her.”
Kellan’s voice in Thoughtful is strong. It speaks with conviction. You will want nothing more than to get lost inside his head and heart. I felt that even with the long length of the book, it never dragged or slowed down for me. I was fully immersed into his story. You heart will break for him when learning more about his past. We already know what he went through in Thoughtless, but that simply scratched the surface. Kellan went through a lot of pain and heartache as a child. You understand why he wants nothing more than to be loved, but he was always afraid. Never felt worthy of it. Until Kiera.
"She was my greatest pain, and my only salvation."
Thoughtful is to put it simply, heart wrenching. As I said before, the author immerses you into Kellan’s heart. It’s as if Kellan’s heart and soul is speaking to you in this story. Kellan coasts through life not loving anyone. But the moment his soul recognizes Kiera, he has hope. That maybe love isn’t impossible. That he can love and is deserving of a great love. While the story doesn’t defend the cheating, it definitely pulls the reader into more of a deeper understanding of why the characters were compelled to do what they did. The heart never lies. And Kellan’s heart never did.
Although the timeline of Thoughtful is parallel to Thoughtless, I in no way found it redundant or repetitive. It’s a beautiful compliment novel to Thoughtless. The author seamlessly weaved the story in a way that it felt like getting to know Kellan and the rest of the gang all over again. She also captures the true inner turmoil Kellan faced with his loyalty to Denny and his deep love and admiration for Kiera.
Thoughtful is a brilliant story of Kellan’s POV, but again it is not a regurgitation of Thoughtless. It brings so much meaning to the story as a whole. It adds depth. It's passionate and insightful. You as a reader will know the heart of Kellan Kyle and the power of his love. And all that it entails. You understand that while love can be the most scariest thing in the world, it is beautiful, powerful, overwhelming. Kellan Kyle. You are such a beautiful soul. How is it that you have embedded yourself into my heart all over again? Maybe you never left.

Blog Tour: A Desperate Man (Vol 2) by Ella Frank and Brooke Blaine- Bianca and Stacy's Reviews, Excerpt, and Giveaway
I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
I’ll be honest here. Serials weren’t my thing until THIS ONE. Volume one got me intrigued over Evan and Reagan’s story. But this next installment ?It has me hooked. I’m talking about can’t put my kindle down must finish in one sitting kind of hooked. So sit down, get comfy. You will get lost in this story.
“Right then she knew that, regardless of what her mind was telling her, she’d continue to push those warnings aside to indulge in Evan James—her own guilty pleasure.”
Volume Two continues Evan and Reagan’s story as it picks up where the last one ended. This time, we are given the story from Regan’s POV. While in Reagan’s head, you feel the pull she has towards Evan. The need for him. Yet you understand her hesitation. Their sexual tension is off the charts. Evan and Reagan so desperately want each other, despite the circumstances. The authors don’t simply allow you to see ...You FEEL their want. It’s intense and passionate. But how can Reagan give in knowing what she knows?
“Within the stirrings if lust she felt every time his name was mentioned, there was the twinge of something more…something dangerous, and the more she felt herself falling, the more she couldn’t stop herself.”
Volume Two digs deeper. There is a past. There are secrets. Everything isn’t like it seems. And things slowly unravel as the story continues. You are immediately sucked in the moment you start the first page and are fully immersed in Reagan and Evan’s story. Their flirty banter will have you laughing out loud. The suspense will have you clutching your kindle. And the sexual tension will have you fanning yourself and wondering where is YOUR Evan James!
I am absolutely fascinated how these authors effortlessly weaved a story unlike anything I’ve read. It’s sexy, sassy, and addicting! Reagan and Evan are highly sensual. There is sex, but this story goes beyond that. It goes to the layer within two broken people. There is a shift in the story. As a reader you will feel it. The authors unlock emotions you never existed between them. We learn so much more about these two, yet Evan and Reagan’s story is so far from over. And I cannot wait to see what’s in store for them next.
This has quickly turned out to be one of my absolute favorite serial series I’ve read. Ella Frank and Brooke Blaine have merged their thoughts and words together so well it’s scary! In the first book we get to meet Evan James and really get to know how he sees the world around him as well as himself. He’s a man struggling with a very real sex addiction, and on top of that he has some hidden demons from his past which we learn a little bit more about in this book. It’s so interesting going from book one to book two and then realizing how pertinent certain actions and feelings have evolved in such a short period of time. Evan is a complex man, and when Reagan Spencer is involved it’s a whole different ball game.
Miss Reagan Spencer. Holy crap is this woman something else! I have very few woman characters that I swoon over (yes, I said swoon) but if anyone is worthy it’s Reagan, In my opinion she is the most perfectly well rounded woman one can be. Some women are strong yet they are whiny, others are Independent yet not willing to become vulnerable. Reagan is strong, independent, fierce with conviction, NOT whiny and has a soft vulnerable side that is just right. And the stuff that comes out of Reagan’s mouth is friggin GREAT! She’s so witty and funny and sassy, I just love her! This book is told in Reagan’s POV and it has such a different feel than the first book, obviously because she’s not a dude. But just like book one needed to be told by Evan, this story needed to be told through Reagan’s eyes. Obviously the characters know each other better in this one, but the way the chemistry hits is so perfect and hot.
There are A LOT of unanswered questions that I’ve noticed while reading this series, and slowly bit by bit things are (sort of) becoming clear. I mean, that’s why we read serials right? To make us question and think and crave more? Well guess what? That happens. You will be scratching your head wondering what is going to happen next. Reagan has a secret and Evan definitely has some stuff from his past that hasn’t been completely revealed. You learn some things, and let me tell you I was not expecting what her secret was. It was a great twist to an already intriguing plot, so well thought out and it definitely categorizes this book as an angsty, hot, sexy page turner! This story has so many different dimensions and colors, and the characters just make it come to life.
Let’s talk about sex… Holy crap can these women right the hell out of a sex scene!! What I loved about this particular scene is that it was anything but ordinary! The chemistry is so perfect, and ohhhhhh I almost forgot to mention the banter!! Oh my gosh the beginning of the book with these two! THAT is what’s going to hook you right away; they are so funny together, seriously. I was cracking up at the smart ass flirty stuff that was going on between them. So classic. Ok back to the sex. It was hot, it was original and it was unforgettable. That to me is so important in a book. Anyone can read about V-cut abs and quivering loins, but THIS. This was some sexy erotic stuff going on! You will not be disappointed. And Evan James can dirty talk with the best of them, like he’s really good at it. Really super good.
The biggest thing I took away from this book (Aside from the erotic party in my kindle) was the fact that the characters evolved SO much. As an avid reader that is truly a beautiful thing. When you have a preconceived notion about a character and then the layers unfold to show you a whole other side to them—that’s great writing. I loved being told the story by both Evan and Reagan, and I can only hope to hear from both of them again in book 3. And I can’t wait for it!! Pick up this series for sure, it’s definitely worth it!
“Walk with me?” Evan asked.
She gave him a small smile and nodded. “Sure.”
Pushing off the rail, she fell in step with him as they walked along the river’s
“I’d be scared of what you’d see if you looked at me through your lens,” he
Evan scoffed and ran his fingers through his hair. “I can’t imagine there’s much
“You’d be surprised at what I see.”
That comment had him coming to a standstill. “Would I?”
“Okay,” he said, and started walking again. “Tell me what you see.”
Reagan slid her thumbs down the straps of her camera and cocked her head,
looking him over.
“I see a successful man. One who dresses well, even on a Saturday morning. So
that would indicate to me that he takes pride in his appearance. Maybe cares about what
others think also. The fact that you were leaving a therapist’s office makes me think
you’re a man with some issues, but also a man who is willing to work through them.
Again, that comes back to pride. You seem to be able to swallow yours when need be.”
Evan’s brow furrowed, but he said nothing as she continued.
“You also have a certain…air about you. It’s in the way you move. You’re
confident, but at the same time, when you flash that smile, the arrogance disappears, and
you look like the boy you used to be.”
The smile under discussion appeared, and Evan asked, “How do you know what
kind of boy I used to be?”
“Hey? This is my story,” Reagan reminded him before he continued asking
questions she wasn’t willing to answer.
“Oh, my apologies, I somehow thought it involved me.”
“It does, but you’re on the outside listening, so shh. You asked, remember?”
With a serious face, he nodded. “You would be right.”
“Okay. Now I lost my train of thought.”
Evan chuckled. “Well, it’s probably for the best that you didn’t mention any of
my unappealing attributes.”
“Speaking of…” she said, and turned to walk backward, facing him. “How did the therapy session go today?”
“Really great. There was an orgy, a sampling of sex toys, and a dessert buffet
afterward. Very satisfying.”
He blew out a breath and rubbed the back of his neck. “It was fine. It’s always
fine. Today, Dr. Glover brought up behavior triggers, and it helped to figure out where
this whole mess started.”
Curious, she asked, “And where was that?”
“It wasn’t any one event. It was the high off the power I got from my job, it was
being in an unhealthy relationship…my grandparents passing…the worry about
following in my parents’ footsteps. The further things spiraled out of my control, the
more I craved that control in other parts of my life. Well, a very specific part of my life.”
He glanced over at her before continuing. “Obviously that’s the condensed version, but…I think it helps. Knowing those things and hopefully being able to stop them in the future.”
But the urge isn’t gone?”
The look in his eyes was haunted as he replied, “No. No, it isn’t gone.”

You could say Brooke Blaine was a book-a-holic from the time she knew how to read; she used to tell her mother that curling up with one at 4 a.m. before elementary school was her ‘quiet time.’ Not much has changed except for the espresso I.V. pump she now carries around and the size of her onesie pajamas.
Her first solo novel, a romantic comedy, is due out in early 2015, but first, she thought she’d write a raunchy story with her best friend that would scar her conservative southern family for life.
If you’d like to get in touch with her, she’s easy to find - just keep an ear out for the Rick Astley ringtone that’s dominated her cell phone for ten years.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Fading Out is a story that speaks to your heart. And it spoke to mine.
“This girl has a livewire buried just beneath her surface. And vigor that radiates off her at a high volume...I need the silence to hear what she’s not voicing with words.”
Arian (Ari) Wyndemere is expected to be perfect. Her parents have complete control over her. That is until, one event changes her life causing her to finish college at a small private school. Away from her parents. Enter Ryder Nash. He is everything Ari should stay away from. He’s the same type of guy that ruined her perfection. Yet she feels a pull towards him. With Ryder’s past, he should stay away from her. But it’s impossible. When your heart beats for another person, you feel it. Words are not needed. This was the case for Ari and Ryder.
“I’ll take a running leap off the edge, right now, for you.”
“Because it’s the first time I’ve ever been inspired.”
With the pressure from her parents, Ari struggles to regain the perfection she once had in her life. Ryder threatens the order she vows to have. But more than she cares to admit, Ryder becomes everything she needs and more. He inspires her to let go and be herself. He pushes her. He reminds her that she is and will always be enough. And Ari? She challenges Ryder on everything. Even love. And he loves her harder because of it.
“When you’re broken, your other half makes it their purpose to fix you.”
Fading Out is not your average love story. It isn’t easy. Both Ari and Ryder harbor pasts that connect them on such a deep level. To explain would be a disservice to the reader. Their story is to simply be experienced. You watch two people with painful pasts fall for each other. You feel the moment when they recognize their soul in the other. You see their light, darkness is no more for them.
“...but our love means never having to dim; we burn for each other.”
This story is told in dual pov and the author seamlessly transitions between both Ari and Ryder. This allows the reader to not only understand the characters, but it adds so much depth to the story. The chemistry is off the charts for Ari and Ryder and you immediately feel their connection. Their banter will have you laughing. The raw emotion will have you feeling everything. Fading Out is the epitome of learning to love another with your entire being while also accepting love that you deserve.

Meet Blake & Chloe in Where the Road Takes Me
Title: Where The Road takes Me
Author: Jay McLean
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Category: Young Adult / New Adult
Release Date: 10th February 2015
Chloe has one plan for the future, and one plan only: the road. She’s made a promise to herself: don’t let anyone in, and don’t let anyone love her. She’s learned the hard way what happens if she breaks her rules. So she’s focused on being invisible and waiting until she can set out on the road—her dream of freedom, at least for a little while.
Blake Hunter is a basketball star who has it all—everything about him looks perfect to those on the other side of his protective walls. He can’t let anyone see the shattered pieces behind the flawless facade or else all his hopes and dreams will disappear.
One dark night throws Chloe and Blake together, changing everything for Blake. For Chloe, nothing changes: she has the road, and she’s focused on it. But when the so-called perfect boy starts to notice the invisible girl, they discover that sometimes with love, no one knows where the road may lead.
Where the Road Takes Me is a heartwarming, poignant story about love, friendships, family healing, change, trust, loss, and happiness.
“Sometimes the wrong path can lead us to the right road. And towards the greatest thing that will ever happen to us”
Chloe and Blake’s story took me by surprise, and it was an emotional read for me as a certain aspect of the storyline hit a little close to home. I’m obviously not going to say what that was as it would be a big spoiler. Let's just say when I read in that line, the one that gave me a hint of what their story was about I had to put the book down. As my memories came my mind, and I just want to give Chloe a hug. I could understand why she had her walls up, and never let any get too close.
“I knew my future. I knew my fate. And I knew that I had absolutely no control of any of it”
I enjoyed being on Chloe and Blake’s journey and seeing where the road takes not only Chloe but also Blake. These were two characters that I couldn’t help, but like. They were slightly broken in some ways, and they had choices to make. Chloe is independent and feisty she has a plan and is focused on it. Blake is a sweetheart and so protective of Chloe he thought he had a plan, but that all changed the moment he met Chloe. I loved the way their friendship developed and grew into something more it was touching to watch. I loved these two together they had some sweet and moving moments together.
“She brought something out in me that had never existed before. She made me want to be there. She made me want to stay. It was as if she had hands, squeeze me, taken my heart in her hands, squeezed tight, and made it start beating again”
Where the Road Takes Me was a lovely, touching, angsty and funny romance story. It had some great secondary characters that added to the story. I love the way Jay added humor to a story, and not take away the emotional side and essence of the story. The story pulled me in from the start and kept me there until I swipe that last page after reading it’s bittersweet ending. I love red Letter Days.

My jaw dropped.
My hands had touched her bare skin, the curve of her hips, and her tiny waist, but I’d seen her body only once, when she was in a bikini, and that had been for only a minute. But that was nothing compared to seeing her like this. Up close. So close her sports bra–covered breasts were just under my nose.
“Blake?” she whispered.
I struggled to take my eyes off her chest, but I finally made it to her face. She had her hair tied up in a messy knot on top of her head, like she often did. But a few strands were stuck on her neck and on her face . . . and a little sheen of sweat covered her arms and her stomach, her chest, her breasts . . .
“Blake,” she repeated, and I trailed my eyes back to hers again.
She pouted before she said, “Give me the ball?”
I shook my head and hid the ball behind my back.
She pouted again. “Please?” she whispered. Then a hint of a smile broke through.
“Are you trying to seduce me into giving you my ball?”

Welcome to SmartMart, where crime pays minimum wage...
Busted. Alexis Dubois just got caught shoplifting a cheap tube of lipstick at the local SmartMart. She doesn’t know what’s worse—disappointing her overbearing beauty-pageant-obsessed mother for the zillionth time…or her punishment. Because Lex is forced to spend her summer working at the store, where the only thing stranger than the staff is the customers.
Now Lex is stuck in the bizarro world of big-box retail. Coupon cutters, jerk customers, and learning exactly what a “Code B” really is (ew). And for added awkwardness, her new supervisor is the totally cute—and completely below her social sphere—Noah Grayson. Trying to balance her out-of-control mother, her starting spot on the school softball team, and her secret crush on the school geek makes for one crazy summer. But ultimately, could the worst store in the world be the best thing that ever happened to her?
When I saw the synopsis for this book, I knew i had to read it. It seemed quirky and fun, with a secret romance. Upon actually reading this book, I found out that there was so much more to it.
The protagonist and narrator of this book was Lex. She started out this book very different from how she was in the end. Lex was always loyal to her friends, but upon getting her job at SmartMart, she started learning things about herself, and other people. It was great to see her become even more compassionate, and I loved watching as Lex learned to get to know someone before judging them. I didn’t like her at first, but by the end of the novel, she was a relatable and admirable character.
There were an interesting group of side characters. There was Lex’s pageant-obsessed mother, who I didn’t like very much at the start of this novel. She seemed shallow, and like she favored her younger daughter who participated in beauty pageants. But like Lex, she did change for the better in the end. There was also Lex’s grandmother, who was suffering from Alzheimer’s. I really loved the relationship between her and Lex, because it was so relatable. It was nice to see that Lex did have family support, but it was very sad to watch as her grandmother’s health and mind declined. Then, there was Lex’s friends, Syd, Bryce, and Court. I wasn’t quite sure why Lex and Court were friends, because Court just seemed like a bad influence, but she ended up being a good friend. Syd was likable, because she was truly supportive of Lex. And as for Bryce, I liked how he helped Lex out, but by the end of the novel, I didn’t find him quite so nice. Next, there was Ruthie, one of Lex’s fellow SmartMart employees. I loved her character, because she really helped Lex be less judgmental, and it was nice to see the inclusion of someone like that. Finally, there was Noah, Lex’s love interest. He was the real star of the book, at least in terms of the side characters. His backstory was deep and complex, and his actions just made him even more likable. Noah was dedicated to his family, had big dreams, and would do whatever he had to to protect the people he cared about. He and Lex were a great couple.
The plot of this novel was fun, full of romance, and also quite interesting. It followed Lex as she was caught shoplifting with Court, and then was forced to work at SmartMart. Through this event, Lex came into contact with Noah, and all the other quirky SmartMart cast. I loved that this showed Lex how to be a better person. Aside from this, though, there were family issues on both Lex and Noah’s sides, and it just made the novel all the more real.
In the end, I really liked this book. There was great and believable character growth, a quirky cast of characters, and real-life family issues. It wasn’t a hard read, but it did mix the emotional with the fun quite well. I really recommend this book if you like contemporary young adult, that also involved real-life issues.
Title: Better When He's Bold
Author: Jay Crownover
Series: Welcome to the Point #2
Release Date: February 3, 2015
Genre: New Adult
Some men are just better when they're bold.
Welcome to the Point...
In a dark and broken kingdom, a ruler has to be fearless to control the streets and the ruthless people who run them.
Race Hartman is just bold enough, just smart enough, and just lost enough to wear the crown. Places like the Point will always have bad things and bad people, but the man in control of all that badness can minimize the devastation. Race has a plan, but can he prevent total annihilation without destroying himself?
Brysen Carter has always seen her best friend's brother for what he is--too pretty, too smooth, and way too dangerous to touch. Basking in Race's golden glow is very tempting, but Brysen knows she'd eventually get burned.
When she starts receiving threatening texts and someone tries to take her out in parking lot, the only person interested in keeping her safe is the one man she can't allow herself to have.
Sometimes being bold is the only way to stay alive. But can she let Race save her life . . . if it means losing herself to him?
I did however, enjoy the dark, gritty storyline that only the Point could offer up. It had a dystopian feel to it. Like they were outcasts from the Hill. Banished to the bottom and left to fend for themselves in a savage way. Which, is almost the truth. A lot of bad shit happens in the dark shadows beyond the Hill.
So what do you do when life pulls you to the Point? You either end up in prison, die or fight. Race and Brysen certainly had a lot of fighting to do to survive the life they have chosen.
Race has a lot of cleaning up to do from the mess his predecessor left. He will always be a criminal, but he's trying to be the good kind. Sounds ludicrous, I know. But he did have his Robin Hood moment with Brysen's mom. So he wasn't all that bad of a guy.
I thought this book was a good read, even though I didn't enjoy all aspects of the story. I do believe Jay's books are always a buy. Her writing and story telling alone make it worth it.

Title: Second Debt
Author: Pepper Winters
Series: Indebted #3
Genre: Dark Romance
Release Date: January 26, 2015
“I tried to play a game. I tried to wield deceit as perfectly as the Hawks. But when I thought I was winning, I wasn’t. Jethro isn’t what he seems—he’s the master of duplicity. However, I refuse to let him annihilate me further.”
Nila Weaver has grown from naïve seamstress to full-blown fighter. Every humdrum object is her arsenal, and sex…sex is her greatest weapon of all.
She’s paid the First Debt. She’ll probably pay more.
But she has no intention of letting the Hawks win.
Jethro Hawk has found more than a worthy adversary in Nila—he’s found the woman who could destroy him. There’s a fine line between hatred and love, and an even finer path between fear and respect.
The fate of his house rests on his shoulders, but no matter how much ice lives inside his heart, Nila flames too bright to be extinguished.
Second Debt begins right where First Debt left off. Some secrets were uncovered while others still remain in the dark.
In this book, Nila began her journey towards repaying the second debt filled with hate. Hate not only for all Hawks, but especially for Jethro because of what just came to light. Of course, I knew this hate was going to make way for a stronger emotion that she feels for him. I am still not one hundred percent convinced about how fast her hate turned into love for Jethro after all the things he has done to her.
Jethro also did a one-eighty from the man we met in book one. At the time, I absolutely hated him. I never thought he was going to be able to redeem himself, but up to this point, he has even though he is still controlled by what he has to do for his family. Of course, we find out that he is not being one hundred percent controlled by them since he does have something working behind the scenes.
It did end in a cliffy, so I am excited to see what happens in the next one!
“Let me endure, so I may pay the sins of my past. But let me survive, so I may put an end to those who hurt me.”
The series continues with more secrets and lies involving Nila and Jethro as well as another debt of course. Nila’s character strengthens with each installment; I liked this tougher side of Nila and the revenge for her ancestors is now her driving force.
“How could any goodness live inside me when all I wanted was four graves –one for each of the Hawk men? How could I believe in right and wrong when all I wanted was their blackened hearts bleeding at my feet?”
Nila and Jethro’s relationship is evolving, Jethro learns that Nila can give him more than he ever expected and Nila soon discovers that she is too far in to ever turn back, consequences be damned.
“It was tragic to think I’d gone my entire life never finding anyone who interested me, only to find such chemistry with a man who I had to kill before he killed me.”
I did like this installment; Jethro is slowly becoming the man I wanted him to be. He does have feelings for Nila and his icy façade is melting. Trouble is, his family can see that as well which can only mean trouble for Jethro.
“With a rabbiting heart, I’d messaged her for the first shred of truth. I began the journey that would pulverize me.”
Pepper Winters remains one of my favourite authors. I think her writing is exceptional and I fall in love with her words each and every time. If I’m honest, I’m still not convinced with the whole “debt inheritance” aspect but the changing relationship between Jethro and Nila keeps me coming back to this story for more. I do hope Jethro’s “condition” is as worthy as the build up.
I didn’t see the end coming at all and I can’t wait for book four to discover what will happen next, my mind boggles with the possibilities!
Pepper Winters wears many roles. Some of them include writer, reader, sometimes wife. She loves dark, taboo stories that twist with your head. The more tortured the hero, the better, and she constantly thinks up ways to break and fix her characters. Oh, and sex... her books have sex.
She loves to travel and has an amazing, fabulous hubby who puts up with her love affair with her book boyfriends.
