This is by far my favorite book in the Finding Fate series, don’t get me wrong—I love all three books but this one really stuck with me and held me in a different place than the others. Chelsea has such a great vision for her characters, and they develop so perfectly within the words of the story. I LOVED this book!
Jenna is a 21 year old artist who works at a bar, and Jack is her long time friend with whom she had a tipsy “encounter” with. It was a one time slip up by her definition and she has no plans on revisiting that night. Jack will always hold a place in her heart but she has no intentions on acting out her feelings. Jenna has a plan for her future and Jack is not a part of it. Jenna is a very feisty, stubborn sometimes infuriating woman. She shares subtle glances with Jack when he comes into her workplace but that’s about all she will allow.
Jenna has a crazy family with a grandmother who claims she’s dying on a yearly basis, so Jenna gets a call from her mother to come home to New Orleans. Jenna’s mother is one of the main reasons why she is so closed off to the thought of being in love with someone. Her mother had the man of her dreams, the child of her dreams and then BAM he up and left. Her mother has done everything in her power to raise Jenna right, but Jenna refuses to believe that being in love leads to anything but heartbreak.
Jenna decides to take the road trip from Arizona to New Orleans by herself, and when Jack catches wind of this plan he isn’t happy. So when his own family problems arise he uses the opportunity to catch a ride to NOLA with Jenna. Coincidentally they are both from the same hometown with only 2 hours separating them. So basically he shows up unannounced and basically hijacks her road trip to her dismay.
This is the beginning of their crazy journey together and I loved every second of it. There is beyond crazy sexual tension between these two, and way Jack is described is HOT to say the very least. I’m talking six foot four tattooed with dark hair and silvery eyes—hello! And damn I just fell in love with his character so much. He’s so chivalrous and sweet while at the same time being honest and straight forward about everything he feels. Jack isn’t afraid like Jenna is and to be honest, at times I just wanted to shake some sense into that girl and say—Look at this man in front of you he’s perfect!
As their story continues you get to learn a little more about Jack’s very disturbing background and the reason for his return home. This was a pivotal turning point in their relationship I believe, because you get to see Jenna’s wall crumble a little. Not because she was willingly falling for him, but because she had actual concern for him. And the few times that she let her emotions slip up, she retracted so fast in order to re erect the walls she had in place. These two don’t play cat and mouse at all. This is all Jenna and her stubborn heart. Which drove me nuts, but also kept me going. I really did like Jenna’s character even though she made me crazy.
So like I said before, this is my favorite with no doubt. I cried that’s how I know I loved it. And I’m even more in love with Chelsea’s writing. Her characters, ALL of them from the MC’s to the family and friends are all just perfect. Chelsea also stepped up the steam in this book, and it was great the way she built up the sexy times. It wasn’t too much and it wasn’t too little, that’s one thing that I believe Chelsea has mastered throughout all 3 books. She doesn’t push stuff on you, she makes you want it and as a reader I totally appreciate that. This book can be read as a standalone, but I totally recommend the whole series. It’s one of my favorites!
