THE GIRL I WAS BEFORE (Falling #3)
NA Contemporary Romance
Release Date: June 23, 2015
I’m the selfish one. I suppose that’s the nicest thing people say about me. I’ve heard the other things, too. “Paige Owens is a pretty girl with nothing else to offer. She’s just a good time at a party. She’s stupid, heartless, cold and useless. All she cares about is getting a guy to look at her. Why would anyone want to be her friend?”
Some of those things are true. Others were true. They’re all hurtful.
None of it matters.
I’m ready to make the hard choices. I’m ready to face the consequences. I’m ready to be the girl I was before, and I’m done being the one who lost her way.
I’m ready to become the girl Houston Orr sees when he looks at me.
Houston isn’t a star athlete. He doesn’t play in a band. He’s never going to be president, and his life is so far away from simple and easy it isn’t even funny. He wasn’t part of my plan. But I’m starting to think plans are overrated, and maybe our stories are what we make them. And mine depends entirely on me, and the choices I make…starting now.
Houston is my fairytale. He’s perfectly imperfect. He’s poetry and life. He’s truth and heartbreak, all rolled up in a tall body with dark hair, broad shoulders and green eyes that lull me into submission. He’s nothing I ever thought I wanted, but the very thing I need. He’s the only guy I’ve ever really loved, and he thinks I’m a princess. I fell into him, and now I’m holding on.
But sometimes life takes away our ability to choose. Sometimes…things aren’t in your control. Sometimes, it hurts to be selfless. My only hope is that when it comes time to choose, I get it right.
Welcome to my once upon a time and wish for happily ever after.

Selfish. Heartless. Useless. Just a few words to describe Paige Owens. Until Houston Orr. He sees Paige. He sees through her. He just sees HER.
Whether you’ve read the series or this is your first time, you quickly learn how everyone feels about Paige. She is not everyone’s favorite person. Her deceitful ways have built her a reputation. But something deep down tells you that there is something about this girl. Something beyond the surface. Something more than the person she portrays on a daily basis. There is so much more to Paige Owens than I could have ever imagined.
As much as Houston becomes a game changer for Paige, she did the same for him. He lived a pretty mundane and monotonous life until Paige came crashing in. She came with a force and he had no chance but to meet her head on. But Houston knows he cannot just dive in. His life? It’s complicated. It’s not his own to live. Not anymore. But Paige? He can’t get enough. He’s drawn to her. And you feel their electricity. You feel their need. Their want. Their desire. It’s overwhelming. It’s intoxicating. And it might be dangerous. Because with feelings like that? It’s easy to get burned.
“This strong goddess who doesn’t need anyone to save her, but damn does she need someone to believe in her.”
What happens when life doesn’t let you choose? Your circumstances and the man you irrevocably fall in love with? What happens when life simply just happens? When love alters life? Suddenly things that were once important are not. People and statuses become insignificant. Paige is done being THAT girl. You feel the moment when things shift. It begins with him. Houston? He is unexpected. He is truth. He is light. He is everything. Houston sees the broken girl that he wants to desperately to put back together. And people never see Paige. They see the exterior. Houston sees her heart.
“With Houston, I’m me – I’m my flaws and my good stuff all at once. And he seems to want both parts.”
Paige’s story absolutely captivated me. The author effortlessly bared the soul of a character that as a reader I never thought I could relate to. But in the end I think I related to her the most. Paige has the most beautiful heart. But that heart was hidden under so many layers. Houston Orr uncovered that heart the moment he met Paige. The moment his heart started to beat in sync with hers. Houston has the most beautiful soul. He speaks love. It pours out of him. While life challenged Houston, he did what others couldn’t do. He loved harder. But this is no fairytale. Their journey is not perfect. Their love? It’s heartbreak. Because loving Houston means being selfless.
“I’ll always come. I’ll always pick you Paige. Always...you.”
The writing is flawless in it’s execution. Every word breathes meaning into the life of this story. Can we talk about the first kiss? This author has a true talent in capturing the most intimate moments. They are beautiful and inspiring. The Girl I Was Before is unlike anything you will ever read. It’s genuine. The characters are real. You will FEEL everything. The author allows you to fall in love with Paige as she never wavers from her true character. And that? It was my favorite part. Despite the circumstances and choices to be made, Paige and Houston loved loudly. They loved fiercely. Not with their words, but with their actions. You were never told about their love. You felt it the entire time. What a powerful way to end a series that will stay with me for a long time to come.
