*I received an e-ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
I was super excited to finally read this book even though I'm new to the subject of zombies. I've watched a few zombie movies, and I think I have read one or two other zombie books before this one, but they all sounded the same so I was interested to see how Nazarea was going to make her book different. The zombies were in some ways similar, but in others not so much. This book had a kick-ass heroine, a delicious male, a little romance, tons of action, and lots and lots of zombies.
Ren is a 'first'. She was born the day that the world ended. She would do anything for those she cares most about no matter what she has to endure along the way; which is one of the things why I really liked her. She can handle things from a revolver to a knife without difficulty; she's a complete badass.
Then there's the drool-worhty Finn. I liked his take-charge attitude. Even though I found some stuff out about him, he's still a complete mystery. I want to know why he is the way he is. The sexual tension between him and Ren is thick. I loved the arguments and digs between these two and can't wait to see if their relationship develops into something more than animosity. They definitely feel something for one another, but I wonder what will happen and how it will happen between these two.
We meet a few other characters along the way. Some I know we'll be seeing more of, but others I doubt it. The story is divided into four parts, I believe, and each part changes point of view between Ren and Finn; which I really liked.
The plot was interesting. The zombies are not your typical moaning/shuffling zombies. These zombies are super fast and I think even a little smart and look pretty disgusting. The Havens, where the people live, were interesting to see and learn about how they came to be. I also liked that it was explained how and why people became infected; I found that information interesting and somewhat different from what I know about zombies.
Overall, I really liked this book. It was different from what I was expecting and I love that the book took place after the end of the world rather than as the end of the world was happening. The heroine is pretty strong and the male main character is sexy but still a complete mystery. There was tons of actions and, of course, lots of zombies and some romance. I can't wait to learn more about these characters and see where they go from here. This being my first Nazarea Andrews book, I did not know what to expect. After reading The World Without a Future, I will definitely read more by her.
Nazarea Andrews is an avid reader and tends to write the stories she wants to read. She loves chocolate and coffee almost as much as she loves books, but not quite as much as she loves her kids. She lives in south Georgia with her husband, daughters, and overgrown dog.
