BEAUTY AND THE BOSS by Diane Alberts
November 16, 2015
Modern Fairytale / Entangled Publishing: Indulgence
Beauty is about to tame her beast...
Researcher Maggie Donovan has no luck with men, and it doesn't help that she can't keep her eyes off of her sexy boss - the one everyone else in the office calls The Beast. Relationships in the office are forbidden. So no one is more surprised than Maggie when she pretends to be his fiancée to save him during a difficult situation. Not only has she put her job on the line, but the future of the company.
Billionaire Benjamin Gale III doesn't believe in love or romance, but the look on his mother's face when Maggie tells her that she's his fiancée is worth millions. Instead of firing her for her insubordination, he goes along with the ruse. In his arms-and in his bed-she'd be everything he could ever want…which is why he can't have her.
But if he doesn't let her go, they'll lose everything…
Mr. Gale, who probably wanted to strangle her, choked and dragged his hands down his face. “Maggie, you don’t—”
“It’s okay. I told you I didn’t want to announce it yet, but I’m ready.” She forced a smile. His mouth opened, closed, then pressed into a thin line. “We can tell the whole world how much we love each other if you want...Benjamin.”
He made a strangled sound and tugged on his tie. He seemed more shocked than anything, but he had to be angry underneath that cold exterior of his. “Love--?”
She cast a quick glance at Mrs. Gale, who was starting to turn blue from lack of oxygen, before turning back to her boss. Not giving him a chance to ruin the ruse she’d thrown together, she launched herself into his arms and kissed him, right in his office in front of his mother.
The second their mouths touched, it was as if she’d woken up from a long, deep sleep.
This wasn’t a kiss--not really--and she was fully aware of that.
But her body didn’t get the message.
His mouth softened under hers, and after a moment of sheer awkwardness, he closed his arms around her and hauled her against his chest. Though she’d initiated the kiss, it didn’t take long for him to show her who was in charge of it. A small shift of his chin, and he was the kisser instead of the kissed.
He turned her slightly, facing away from his mother, and ran his tongue against the seam of her sealed lips. She gasped, shocked he’d actually gone there, and he took full advantage of the situation. He tasted like wine and something else she couldn’t place, and that was about as far as she got before she couldn’t think of anything except his lips on hers, his tongue against hers. She curled her hands into his shirt, and a small moan escaped her. She jumped at the sound, jerking back and covering her mouth in surprise.
Mr. Gale stared down at her, breathing heavily, his focus clearly on her mouth. It did weird things to her insides-- things that made her want to launch herself back into his arms, only for real this time, and take that kiss a step further.
Like, stepping right into his bed.

I married the right brother.
At least that's what I tell myself at night, when I stare at the ceiling and listen to the rhythm of the grandfather clock down the hall. It never feels like the mere passage of time, but a countdown towards something inevitable.
Bobby Lightly is selfish, irresponsible, and careless. I haven't seen him since the day I married his brother. He slipped out during the wedding reception without a word.
A year later, I heard Bobby was drafted to Korea. He never said goodbye to anyone. Never sent a letter. We had all come to terms with the fact that he was probably dead somewhere, either a victim of the war or its aftermath.
That is, until in the midst of an unrelenting heatwave, he showed up at the doorstep of the house I lived in with his brother.
Everyone thinks I'm cruel. Everyone thinks I should be easy on him. They think I don't understand him. They all think I hate him.
But what no one understands is that it was Bobby who broke my heart.
And I think he’s back to do it again.
I snickered to myself. "He never had a chance. Rory never had a chance." I shook my head in pity for the man I had grown to begrudge. "From the first day of our marriage, he couldn't win because he wasn't you." I spun around, looking to the black forest for a way out, an exit from my tragic dilemma. "I don't know how to fix this. He'll never be you. It's not his fault or our fault. It just is. And for years I resented him for that. I loved you. I loved hating you. I loved loving you. And when you left, I blamed him. It's not fair. None of it is fair. For him. For us." My shouts vanished into the dark night. Just like all my efforts, they meant nothing. "We tried so hard to do the right thing. We sacrificed us for him. And I think it just made things worse. Look at him."
"Stop," Bobby said firmly.
"I was so cold to him. I pushed him away so much. I created that man you see today. Do you think that was the right thing?"
"Stop," Bobby repeated.
My emotions erupted out of me, explosive from years of being crammed into a secret space. Years of secrets I couldn't tell. Of unrequited love. Of a life unfulfilled. Of dreams demolished. I pounded my fist to my chest. "It hurts. It physically hurts to see you every day. You are the first person I think about when I wake up. When I thought you died, I died. Rory was with a corpse."
Bobby stepped closer to me. "Stop it, Lil."
"And you keeping being you and I am trying so hard not to love you." I didn't care anymore about pretending. The threads were ripped and I felt as raw as the festering wound I had dealt with for the past seven years.
"And then you take me dancing and you tell me how you wrote me letters that you never sent and you bring me here. You make it impossible not to love you, dammit.” I thrust a finger in his direction and scowled. “And I hate you for that.

I’ve met boys like him before. Rich. Bored. Always wearing a silver-spooned smile. But there is something different about him that piques my curiosity. The way he looks at me, like he is staring through the bars of a gilded cage he’s never left. Like he is one breath away from suffocating beneath a mound of responsibilities. He is different from the rest because he doesn’t wear his money… his money wears him. I just don’t think he knows it yet.
She’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before. She’s everything I’ve never been able to be. Carefree. Whimsical. A dreamer. Her laugh is infectious. She is irresistible. I can’t help but be drawn to her with an intensity that steals my breath and muddles my senses. I want to know her, need to know her, but how can I allow myself that liberty when I don’t have the freedom to make my own choices?
Phillip and Maggie think they have it all. Even though they come from opposite backgrounds, they each have bright futures paved out, with no distractions holding them back.
Until the fateful day they meet each other.
After a brief, adventurous time together in The Hamptons, Maggie and Phillip find themselves saying goodbye just as the spark of love flashes intensely between them. Can their budding connection be enough to survive the pulling tides of change, or will they drift apart before they even have a chance to explore what could have been?
Charlie tossed back the rest of his fourth beer and asked for two more. He was going for a record tonight.
“Why don’t you just keep the cooler by you?” I asked, digging my hands through the ice again. My fingers felt like frozen popsicles by the time my hand wrapped around a can since we’d blown through the bottles he’d brought.
“Because the beer tastes better when you’re handing them to me.”
“Is that so?” I replied. A mischievous smirk crossed my lips. When he wasn’t looking, I shook his beers up and walked them over to him.
He leaned back to look up at me, a grin eating up the whole of his face. “Finally decided to succumb to me?” he jokingly asked.
“How can I resist?” I said, smiling as I cracked open the first beer, tilting it down at him, showering him in sudsy foam. He rolled out of his chair, curse words peppering the air as I cracked the second can and pointed it toward Hannah and Caleb.
“Maggie!” Hannah shrieked as she jumped out of her seat, beer covering the front of her shirt.
“Get up, you bunch of boring yuppies!” I shouted. “The night is young and the water’s warm!”
Without words, they were up on their feet, laughing and shucking out of their clothes as they headed down toward the water. I turned back to the fire, tossing the beer cans back into the cooler, when Phillip caught my eye.
He was standing up. Standing so still and so close to me that it made me draw in a sharp breath.
“Is this the part where you tell me you have some kind of superpower that allows you to move from one spot to the next without notice?” I joked, wiping my sticky hands down the front of my jeans.
There was a new look in his relaxed gaze. A look that made my heart somersault. A look of attraction and curiosity.
“Are you going with them?” he asked, his heavy eyes drifting over my face, down to my lips where they stayed.
I reflexively licked them, feeling the sun awaken beneath my skin. “Usually I do,” I replied, wondering why I suddenly felt like I had laid out in the sun all day. “How about you? Do you like to skinny dip?”
“Can’t say that I’ve tried it yet,” he said, still watching me so intensely that it made my feet want to squirm.
And my feet never squirmed.
I pushed at his shoulder, trying to dispel the heat growing between us. “Well, there’s a first time for everything, right?” I didn’t wait for his response. I just grabbed the hem of my shirt and pulled it over my head, dropping it to the sand below.
Modesty was a seven-letter word I had yet to comprehend.
I was thoroughly surprised when he didn’t look away. His gaze wasn’t even bashful like I’d assumed it would be when he roamed the length of my body, and it stirred something inside of me that had no business being stirred.
“Come on,” I said, putting my best laugh forward. “You can’t skinny dip with your clothes on.”
It was like my laugh woke him back up, because he smiled lazily, unbuttoned his shirt, and shrugged it from his shoulders, dropping it on top of mine.
“That’s better,” I said, fiddling with the button on my jeans. It took me more time than it should have, because I couldn’t keep my eyes from his perfectly tanned, perfectly chiseled abs.
I shimmied out of my jeans as quickly as I could, and then laughed when he nearly toppled over from his foot getting stuck in one of his pant legs. He grabbed onto my arms, using me to steady himself, and then we both laughed.
“My apologies,” he said, his smile reaching from ear to ear as he clung to me.
Why did I have to notice how good he smelled? Like sandalwood.
“No worries,” I said, setting him straight on his feet. Dropping down, I held his pants while he stepped out of them, trying not to think too much about how close we were. “I’ve fallen way more than I’d care to admit to anyone.”
“Come on, Maggie!” Hannah called. She was splashing and laughing as Charlie and the guys took turns shoving each other under the water.
“Are we taking off our underwear now?” Phillip asked as soon as I stood back up. I had to admit, I was momentarily shocked by his question. But he quickly recovered by adding, “Or do we do it right before we get in the water?”
I stared at him for a moment, enjoying the new sensation of shock that he brought out in me. It wasn’t often that someone thoroughly surprised me. It was fun. Enlightening.
Without answering him, I just smiled and then reached behind me, unclasping my bra and letting it fall onto the pile of clothes at my feet. A second later, I was out of my underwear, enjoying the feel of the breeze against my bare skin.
“Last person in has to clean up around the fire pit!” I shouted, turning from his wide-eyed stare and racing for the water.

Blog Tour ~ Heart- Shaped Hack by @Tgarvisgraves Includes Derna' Review, Excerpt, The first five Chapters and a Giveaway
*** I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ***
I was so excited when the Arc of Heart-Shaped Hack by Tracey Garvis-Graves appeared on my Kindle. I’m such a fan of this author, and as most of my book friends know On The Island is one of my favorite books. So with my Kindle in one hand and a cup of green tea on the go I got comfy on my sofa and dived right in. And that is where I stay for the rest of the afternoon, as I couldn’t put it down. The more I read, the more intrigued I became and the more I wanted to find out what was going to happen. So it’s safe to say I loved it from start to finish Kate, and Ian’s story was a brilliant read.
“Always choose love. Always choose the adventure. You’ll never regret it”
Kate was strong, kind, and selfless. She was more understanding than I would have been when Ian gave her very little information about himself. But that was one of the reasons why I like her she gave Ian a chance and she didn’t let her head rule her heart. Sometimes you have to go with that gut feeling and hope it doesn’t steer you wrong.
“She wanted to do more than kiss him. Lots more. All of this with a man she knew very little about”
Ian was an enigma to me at first, and it wasn’t that I didn’t like him because I did. He was a little cocky, but I could tell his heart was in the right place. I was just cautious, as his behaviour at first glance seemed a little unethical to say the least. But I have to say like Kate it didn’t take long for Ian to win me over there was just something about him. There was so much more to this Robin Hood, who was charming, and confident than meets the eye.
“Come on over to the dark side Kate. I’ll save you a seat next to me”
I loved Kate and Ian together such sincere characters. I adore watching their relationship developed. It’s romantic, sexy, funny (basketball game) understanding, tender, and heartwarming. They made me laugh many times with the banter that they shared together. These two were perfect for each other.
“You made it so damn easy for me to love you and just as easy to like you.”
”I fell in love with him so hard, and never saw it coming”
I like the storyline it was such an interesting concept, I loved the premise of the story and it showed that Tracey did her research. It was certainly interesting learning about hackers who knew there were “black hat” hackers “gray hat” hackers and “white hat” hackers well not me but I do now. Oh, and so do two boys aged 13 & 16 who asked what book my review was about, and it was great as it not only were they surprised but it prompted an interesting conversation about hackers. I have to say I’m grateful for “white hat hackers” .
Overall, Heart-Shaped Hack was it was and sweet, funny, romantic, smart, emotional and an enlightening read. After reading it, my advice would be to don’t try to work out what is going to happen just go with it. Tracey knows what she is doing, and she likes to throw in a few twists to keep you on your toes to stop the story becoming boring. Don’t get me start on what Tracey did to my feelings at about 70% talk about emotional, but as Tracey knows I love her, so all is forgiven.
Tracey with her faultless and captivating writing pulled me in from the start and didn’t let me go. So much so that in between finishing this book and writing up my review I have gone on to read two more of her book Covet and Cherish as expected I just loved them.
I highly recommend that you one- click Heart-Shaped Hack today.
Kate was taking a break and having coffee and a muffin at Wilde Roast Café when Ian slid into the booth and sat across from her. He was wearing a lightweight cream-colored sweater with a tan-and-green-patterned shirt underneath, and he smelled good.
Confused, Kate looked around. “Where did you come from?”
“I walked in the door like everyone else.”
“Do you live nearby?” Kate lived in the St. Anthony Main neighborhood of Northeast Minneapolis. The food pantry was conveniently located on SE Main Street, which was a short three-block walk from her apartment. The quiet brick-paved street was lined with restaurants, shops, and a movie theater and included a stunning view of the Mississippi River and St. Anthony Falls. There were also bars that featured live music and plenty of green space in nearby parks.
He shook his head. “Not really.”
“Then why are you here?”
“I felt like talking to you again. You’re seated, so you probably won’t try to strangle me this time.”
“How did you know where to find me?” She was tucked away in a back booth instead of one of the tables near the windows that looked out over SE Main, so it wasn’t like he’d walked by and spotted her.
He held a steaming cup of coffee and blew on it to cool it. “I tracked your credit card activity. According to Capital One, you bought a cup of coffee and a muffin here twelve minutes ago.”
“You tracked my credit card?” Her voice sounded rather loud and shrieky.
He held a finger in front of his mouth. “Shh, Katie Long Legs. That information is for your ears only. How’s your coffee? Would you like a refill?”
Kate did not appreciate being shushed, but she lowered her voice. “Are you some kind of cyberthief?” she whispered. And since when were criminals so well-dressed and impeccably groomed?
“I did not steal your credit card number. I simply accessed your account to see where and when you’d used it last. Then I came here.”
“If you wanted to talk to me again, why didn’t you just go to the food pantry?”
He looked at her like it was obvious. “Because you’re not there. You’re here at this café.”
“If you’re not a cyberthief, then what are you?”
“I’m a hacker.”
“Is there a difference?”
“When you said you steal from the rich to give to the poor, I thought you were kidding. Is that how you get the money?”
“I don’t steal it. I appropriate it from people who shouldn’t have it in the first place. Then I give it to those who are more deserving.”
Kate twisted her napkin. “I can’t keep the money. I’ve already spent the first two donations, but if you come back to the food pantry with me, I can return the most recent one. It’s still locked in the safe because I wasn’t planning on going shopping until tomorrow.”
“No, Katie. I don’t want it back. It’s for you. It’s for the babies.”
“It’s wrong,” she said quietly.
“It’s against the law.”
“Trust me when I say the people I took it from don’t want the law involved any more than I do.”
“What are you saying? That you’re a thief who steals from other thieves?”
He wrinkled his nose, and it was adorable.
“It sounds so distasteful when you say it like that. I prefer master appropriator of ill-gotten funds. You can call me master for short.”
“I have lots of things I’d like to call you. Master is not one of them.”

Title: Cocky Bastard

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Category: New Adult
Release Date: 17th August 2015

He was someone who belonged in my wildest fantasies instead of a rest stop in the middle of Nebraska.
A sexy, cocky, Australian named Chance was the last person I expected to run into on my cross-country drive.
When my car broke down, we made a deal. Next thing I knew, we were traveling together, spending sexually-tense nights in hotels and taking unplanned detours.
My ordinary road trip turned into the adventure of a lifetime. It was all fun and games until things got intense.
I wanted him, but Chance wouldn’t make a move. I thought he wanted me too, but something was holding him back.
I wasn’t supposed to fall for the cocky bastard, especially when I knew we’d be going our separate ways.
All good things must come to an end, right?
Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.
I like this book, I did think after reading the first few chapters is Chance going to be cocky Bastard or more of an annoying bastard. But actually the more I continued to read I would agree he was a cocky bastard and one that I loved.
“Name’s Chance. “Chance Bateman. Some of my friends call me Cocky.”
While I can’t reveal too much of the storyline, I will say I loved the first part of the book more than the second part. Aubrey and Chance's road trip together was great fun. They both make me laugh many times with their back and forth banter. I liked the chemistry they had, and with Chance’s dirty mouth I can see why Aubrey fell for him.
“Attraction is way too tame for what happens when I look at you. I want to fucking conquer you.”
I did like the second half it was still funny, and it’s let you know the reason Chance was reluctant to get too close to Aubrey. The reason had crossed my mind but then was swiftly forgotten until I came to part two, and I said to myself... Ah ha! I liked you get to see a different side to Chance. He was persistent I will give him that. But I will say there were a few rolling my eyes and frustrating moments because of some the actions of both Aubrey and Chance.
However, with that being said, I enjoyed Cocky Bustard was an entertaining, fun, sexy read. One that I stayed up till early hours of the morning reading as I wanted to see how it was going to end. I’m big a fan of VI Keeland and I have not read anything by Penelope Ward before, but I will now.
I would one click this one and meet A sexy, cocky, Australian named Chance! Oh and a very funny goat.
With a huff, I got out of bed and stood on my tiptoes to look out the peephole. Why were those things always so high on the door anyway? I was surprised to find no one standing on the other side. Maybe I’d imagined it.
I flicked on the lights. The sound wasn’t coming from the entrance door. It was coming from an interior door I hadn’t even noticed before.
I unfastened the top lock and cracked it open just enough so I could see what he wanted. And there he stood.
Wearing only dark gray boxer briefs that hugged him like a second skin.
It took a minute to understand what he was doing there, even though he was holding up a toothbrush in question.
“I thought we had established I wasn’t a serial killer already.”
I opened the door wider.
Oh lord. Stop that. Right now.
“I must have left my toothpaste in my saddlebag in the car.”
I swallowed hard. “Uh huh.”
He cocked his head to the side, and his brows dipped in. “Can I borrow yours?”
“Oh. Yeah, sure.”
He walked past me and let himself into my bathroom. I waited at the door.
“You got an awful lot of girly crap in here for one night,” he said with a jumbled mouth full of toothpaste from the bathroom. “Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia.”
He was reading my Estee Lauder perfume bottle.
I heard him rinse and spit. Then there was a gargling sound. He used my mouthwash, too. Sure, help yourself.
He walked out and flicked off the bathroom light. “Is tuberose a rose?”
I shook my head, still confused by the whole situation going on.
“That’s why,” he murmured.
“I couldn’t figure out what you smelled like all day. Not sure I ever smelled a Tuberose before.” He shrugged and walked back into his room but not before turning back. “Even those little black lacy underwear smell like tuberose.”
My eyes bulged. I’d taken off my bra and panties and left them on the bathroom counter.
“Relax. I’m teasing. Do I look like an underwear sniffer to you?”
“Night, Aubrey.” He graced me with a dimple and disappeared.
AH-BREE. Damn him.
I locked the door and checked it twice, unclear if it was for my safety or his. His voice saying my name was on audio replay inside my head, getting softer and softer like a soothing lullaby with each breath as I drifted off to dreamland.
Until the knock came again.

I took one step back for each one he took forward, until I was jammed up between him and the wall.
God, he was intense. And deliberate. And he could say things with his eyes that made my knees tremble. One side of his face was bruised and distorted from where I’d hit him. He grasped both my wrists in one hand and pinned them above me. Every part of me felt flush with the heat emanating from his body, even though that was the only point of contact. He hooked a finger in the ‘V’ of my blouse, tracing the dangerously low cleavage. His touch was so soft, it was barely discernible.
“Skye?” He seemed hypnotized by the rapid rise and fall of my chest.
“Don’t play with scorpions unless you intend to get stung.” He yanked the neckline apart.
Round, glass buttons popped onto the floor and rolled around like eyeballs, astounded by the sight of my bare flesh.
“We’re harsh and predatory and full of venom.” He gnashed his teeth at me and ripped my blouse in two.
He tore off a strip and bound my wrists. Then he used the hanging trail like a leash and led me to bed.
“You’ve been trying to get a rise out of me for days. Now that you have my attention, what are you going to do?” He leaned forward, so close that I fell back onto the mattress, trying to get away from him. “Or is it that you want me to do all the work so your pampered pussy gets a taste of the other side, but you can tell yourself you didn’t have a choice?” He crawled up over me, slowly, until we were nose to nose.
I felt like hell was about to consume me. I could hear the men outside, gearing up to fill the tanks. Would they hear the sound of my screams?
“Would you like me to invite them in?” Damian secured my wrists to the bed post. “Do you really think you’d be safer with them instead of me?” He tore off another strip, giving me the chance to scream or yell or shout for help. When I didn’t, he tied it around my mouth.
He sank back on his heels, kneeling between my legs, and ran a finger from my neck to the front clasp of my bra. I stopped breathing. He moved on, trailing over my stomach, until he got to the band of my shorts. He toyed with the tab, enjoying the start-stop effect it had on my heart.
“Such a frightened little bird,” he said. Then he yanked my legs around his hips so I was flush with his rock hard arousal. “You should know better than to provoke me.”

I don't want to scare her away. At least we're getting a little closer. She's feeling more comfortable around me. In all the years we've hung out in our group, especially the last three with Lisa and Luc dating, she's always kept me at a distance. At first I thought it was because I had girlfriends, but even when I was single she didn't let me in. In truth, I'm jealous as fuck over her friendship with Stewie. They're almost as close as she and Lisa are. The jealousy clawed at my chest Wednesday night with a viciousness I'd never experienced before, and all because Stewie was touching her. It wasn't sexual by any means and his innuendos and flirting were harmless. He isn't into her like that, at least not anymore, not like I thought he was. At least I don't think so. Damn it. His parents are just as fucked up as Myah's mom. They trust and rely on one another and I know for a fact he doesn't want to ever fuck that up. Besides that, he thinks of Myah as more of a sister—well maybe not. Maybe it is more for him. He is her protector, her confidant, and it pisses me the hell off. I want that job. Maybe in time. I'll have to keep it slow and steady and not push or pressure her in any way, or I'm afraid she'll book it the hell out of my life and it'll all be fucked.

From New York Times and USA Today Bestseller Vi Keeland comes a steamy new standalone novel about a rockstar. Or two
Author: Vi Keeland
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: 15th June 2015

Dimpled smile of a boy
Hard body of a man
Sings like an angel
Fucks like the devil
I was stuck between a rock(star) and a hard place.
At fifteen, his poster hung on my bedroom wall. At twenty-five his body hovered over mine. Every girl’s fantasy became my reality. I was dating a rockstar. Yet I was slowly falling for another man. The problem was—the two men—they shared a tour bus.
Flynn Beckham was the opening act.
Dylan Ryder was the headliner.
What happens when the opening act begins to shine so bright, it seems to dim everything else in its wake?
I’ll tell you what happens. Things get ugly.
Meet Flynn and Lucky in this rock star romance!
Beat is the second book in the Life on Stage series by Vi Keeland and just like the first book in the series Throb I loved it. It is Flynn Beckham’s story and I first met the rock star in Throb he was the other man vying for the leading lady’s attention. I was so excited after finishing the book and discovering that he would be getting a story. You see Flynn was never the bad guy in the other book. Unfortunately, he just wasn't the guy for the leading lady. I had felt for him times as he was a genuinely a nice guy.
I loved Flynn and Lucky Valentine together the attraction is high on both sides. Lucky believed she was happy with her own rock star boyfriend Dylan Ryder the lead singer of the band Easy Ryder until she meets Flynn. He starts to make her see things differently and it all gets a little complicated.
“A Man with good rhythm has always been my weakness. Musicians have always been my Kryptonite”
Love the sexual tension between Flynn and Lucky it was infused from the very beginning. Loved the way things developed between them. There are some heartfelt moments between these two as they spend more time together and get to know each other.
“I like her I like the way I feel when I’m around her”
“Something about Flynn Beckham makes me nervous. He’s different.”
I will warn you that yes, there is a love triangle, and there is cheating, but don’t let that stop you reading it really is worth the read. I’m not condoning the cheating, but there is more to it when it comes to Flynn and Lucky. Again, it’s a case of the heart wants what the heart wants.
“Some thing’s are just fate. And you can’t fight fate”
I really enjoyed this book; Flynn is just gorgeous in personality and looks. I mean just look at that cover!! If that won’t make you read the book, then nothing will. This was another winning read for me by VI Keeland, with its great characters, and a great plot. It made me laugh, smile, swoon, tear up, and go me go weak at the knees. And if that wasn’t enough, it ended with lovely epilogue.
If you love rock stars, then I recommend that you 1-click Beat today and meet the very sexy and the very lush Flynn Beckham.
“So. Give it to me straight. What am I doing wrong?”
Ummm…absolutely nothing from what I can see. Everything was perfect. Don’t change a thing. Shit. “Could you do it again? Maybe a different song, one you haven’t sung in a while. So the sounds are less familiar to your body. Sometimes that can give me a different view.” At least I make it sound like a real thing when the words come out.
He sings again, and this time I force myself to observe. “Hmm…your posture is great. Most people have a tendency to favor one side of their neck, which makes them tilt a bit when they speak, and it becomes magnified when they sing, which puts strain on the muscles around the vocal cords. Your alignment is perfect.”
“Thank you, it goes with the rest of my perfectness,” he says with a teasing arrogance that, from the little I know about him, I know isn’t real.
“You didn’t let me finish.”
“You can’t now tell me I’m not perfect. I was already basking in the glow.”
“Actually, it was perfect…but almost a little too perfect. Which makes me think you don’t usually stand this way when you sing.”
“It isn’t the way I normally sing. On stage, I usually have a guitar over my shoulder. Even if I’m not playing it, it’s there.”
“Well, I need to see you holding your instrument to assess you fully, then.”
Flynn’s eyebrows quirk up and the dirty grin on his face is unmistakable.
“The guitar. I’d need to see you holding the guitar.”
“That’s a shame.” He shrugs, the playful smile still on his face. “But okay. It’s your call. Whatever instrument you want to see me hold is fine with me.”
“How big of you.”
“So now we’re talking about the other instrument again?”
I roll my eyes, although this conversation is having more of an effect on me than I let on.

Title: Trusting Liam
Author: Molly McAdams
Series: Taking Chances #2
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Category: New Adult
Release Date: June 9th, 2015
A night they will always remember…a connection neither can deny…a secret that could destroy it all…
When Kennedy Ryan moves to California, she never expects to come face-to-face with Liam Taylor—the intriguing man who has haunted her thoughts for a year. A man who led her to breaking every one of her rules for a single night of passion that ended up meaning more than it was ever supposed to. Accustomed to disastrous experiences with men, Kennedy shields herself before he can break down more of the carefully built control she’s clung to for the last four years. But every time she sees Liam, she feels her resolve weakening.
Liam Taylor has been asked to help socialize his boss’s nieces. But what he thinks sounds more like a babysitting job ends up leading him to the only girl who ever slipped away before morning—a girl he thought he’d never find again. And now that she’s within reach, Liam’s determined to never let her go.
But when a secret from her past tests their relationship, will they be able to cling to the trust Liam has worked so hard to build?
Being a big fan of Molly McAdams I was looking forward to reading Trusting Liam (Taking Chances #2). It was going to be a crossover from two of her series that I had read and loved.
Due to a past heartache Kennedy Ryan’s walls are up, she doesn’t believe in love anymore and has rules when it comes to relationships. When Kennedy and her sister Kira unexpectedly have to move to California the last person she expected to meet was Liam the guy who she spent one night with a year ago. Someone who she has never forgotten and made her break her rules.
“I was stubborn, independent and loved control, but Liam had me giving up all control to him within in minutes in Vegas”
When Liam Taylor is asked by his boss to entertain his nieces the last person he expects to see is Kennedy the girl he met a year. Even though they only share one night together, Liam has never forgotten that night or that girl. Now he is not going to let her go again.
“Whether or not Kennedy was ready or wanted it, I was getting ready to chase the girl who was already consuming my mind”
The storyline was about second chances, trust, making choices, leaving your past behind, and secrets. I like Kennedy and Liam together you, could feel the connection that they had. I like watching Kennedy slowly let her walls down, and with the help of a persistent Liam start to believe in love again.
“I’m terrified of the way he makes me feel just by being near him”
As always with a book from Molly it's not all plain sailing for Kennedy & Ryan. Molly likes to throw in some twists & turns to keep up guessing. There was a feeling of history repeating itself once a secret was revealed, but thankfully it didn't end in a way that Molly is going to start receiving a new batch of hate mail. ;) There was a sweet epilogue that left a smile on my face so job done!!
“I am perfectly capable of loving someone, I’ve just never wanted to love anyone one until I met you”
Liam Taylor and Kennedy Ryan are children from characters from the Taking Chance series and Forgiving Lies, and I like how Molly brings it all together. I loved catching with the now older characters from both series. I will say it took a little bit of time for me to get my head around the fact that they are now my age!! Lol
Overall, I like Trusting Liam; it was heartfelt story that also made me laugh. I like Molly’s writing style and how she always emotionally draws you into the story and the characters I will say and don’t’ hate me, but I don’t see Charlie as Chase let alone Liam so I had to keep pushing that image out of my head. However, that being said, it didn’t take away my enjoyment of the book as we all have different images in our minds of what characters look like.
Trusting Liam can be read as I standalone, but I do think if you can read both series before hand. Just to get the background, meet the parents, and to understand the reason behind Molly’s dedication. FYI… I was always #Team Brandon ;)
If you liked the Taking Chance and the Forgiving Lies series then, this one is worth a read.
The images from last night tore through my mind again when I saw the large, tattooed arm resting where my body had just been. The muscles were well defined even relaxed, and the face had a boyish charm now that he was asleep. Such a difference from the predatory stare and knowing smirk I kept seeing in my mind. Before I could stop myself, I gently ran my fingers through his dirty-blond hair that, now in the sunlight, I could see had a red tint to it. And I knew if he opened them, those arctic blue eyes would once again captivate me.
But I couldn’t risk that.
I’d already stayed too long; I’d already made a mistake with him. Drunken one-night stands weren’t my thing. Drunken one-night stands with strangers in Vegas were even worse.
Straightening, I turned and walked quietly from the room.
Molly McAdams grew up in California but now lives in the oh-so-amazing state of Texas with her husband and furry daughter. Her hobbies include hiking, snowboarding, traveling and long walks on the beach, which roughly translates to being a homebody with her hubby and dishing out movie quotes. When she's not at work, she can be found hiding out in her bedroom surrounded by her laptop, cell, Kindle and fighting over the TV remote. She has a weakness for crude-humored movies, fried pickles and loves curling up in a fluffy comforter during a thunderstorm...or under one in a bathtub if there are tornados. That way she can pretend they aren't really happening.

Title: All Played Out
Author: Cora Carmack
Series: Rusk University #3
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Category: New Adult
Release Date: May 12, 2015
First person in her family to go to college? CHECK.
Straight A’s? CHECK.
On track to graduate early? CHECK.
Social life? …..yeah, about that….
With just a few weeks until she graduates, Antonella DeLuca’s beginning to worry that maybe she hasn’t had the full college experience. (Okay... Scratch that. She knows she hasn't had the full college experience).
So Nell does what a smart, dedicated girl like herself does best. She makes a "to do" list of normal college activities.
Item #1? Hook up with a jock.
Rusk University wide receiver Mateo Torres practically wrote the playbook for normal college living. When he’s not on the field, he excels at partying, girls, and more partying. As long as he keeps things light and easy, it's impossible to get hurt... again. But something about the quiet, shy, sexy-as-hell Nell gets under his skin, and when he learns about her list, he makes it his mission to help her complete it.
Torres is the definition of confident (And sexy. And wild), and he opens up a side of Nell that she's never known. But as they begin to check off each crazy, exciting, normal item, Nell finds that her frivolous list leads to something more serious than she bargained for. And while Torres is used to taking risks on the field, he has to decide if he's willing to take the chance when it's more than just a game.
Together they will have to decide if what they have is just part of the experiment or a chance at something real.
All Played Out is about a girl with a “to do” list and a hot sexy jock who wants to help her complete it. It should be relatively, easy but as they start to cross off her “to do” list it leads to something more than they were both expecting.
“There’s no predicting it… How one thing can affect your life. …There’s no way to know until it’s too late…Life a bitch like that”
Antonella (Nell) De Luca Dylan’s roommate I just loved her, her awkwardness, and her shyness. She was smart, and a little nerdy. I have to say she reminded me at times of a cross between my favorite nerdy couple Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler. I think it was the way she would analyze her feelings and emotions. Her ‘To Do’ list was great!! We should all make one ;)
“My brain has never been a problem. But my heart is an equation I don’t know how to solve”
Mateo Torres is the hot sexy Jock! Awww, I was a big fan of his too. He was confident, outgoing, spontaneous, funny, a charmer, and he liked to be the life and soul of the party. He has magnetic personally, and I could see why Nell was attractive to him. He’s been hurt before, he has regrets, and has made mistakes, but with Nell there is the feeling that this could be his second chance.
“Be worthy of her. Not by playing football or pretending to be something you’re not. By being the man she makes you fell like you are. Strung and smart and kind and so damn lucky to have her”
I enjoyed the storyline; it was warmhearted easy sexy read, which was low on the drama. Cora always creates entertaining characters and Nell, and Matto were no different. They may have been opposites, but they worked, they brought out the best in each other,
Because Mateo Torres is loud, and I’m quiet. Because he’s reckless, and I’m cautious. Because he belongs everywhere, and I don’t.
I love the chemistry that they had. I adored seeing how being around Mattoe helped Nell’s shyness disappear, and her confidence grow. And the way being around Nell helped Mattoe realize what he wanted, to see the bigger picture. Their friendship/relationship was funny and sweet. The romance was hot and sexy, and Mateo did leave me grinning a few times.
“I’ve been thinking about kissing you again since the moment our last kiss stopped”
“Each time he touches me, each time he says something, it feels like I’m whispering against dynamite, like I’m a hairsbreadth away from utter destruction.”
I’m enjoying this football series, and I can’t wait to read Stella’s book All Closed Off. My only disappointment is that it’s not due to releases until 2016. However, I think it’s going to be worth the wait as I have a feeling that going to be heartfelt, and emotional. If you’re a fan of Cora Cormack, then this series is for you. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Welcome to Humiliation. Population: Me.
Thankfully, I’m so miserable that the next few minutes only occur in bursts and patches for me. When I next lift my eyes, Dylan is there, and we’re inside the apartment. I blink, and I’m in my room. It’s dark, only the lamp by my bed providing light, and she’s dabbing at my forehead with a damp cloth that feels like heaven.
“Why did I do this?” I groan. “Why does anyone do this?”
She doesn’t laugh, though I can tell she wants to.
“Hindsight is twenty-twenty.”
“I hate that saying.”
“But it’s the truth.”
“I hate the truth.”
She does laugh then.
“Why did you do it?” she asks. “I tried to ask Matt, but he sounds like a yeti when he’s this drunk. I couldn’t make out anything he said.”
“I hate yetis,” I mumble.
“Yes, well, before you say you hate water, drink this.”
She tilts my head up to meet a glass, and half the water ends up running down my neck. And I do, indeed, hate water.
The only thing I don’t hate is sleep. Sleep will take away the churning in my stomach, and the awful taste in my mouth, and the flushed heat I know is still marring my skin.
Maybe I’ll wake up, and this will all have been a dream. I won’t have thrown up in front of the people I’m trying to make my new friends. I wouldn’t have told the most attractive guy to ever show any interest in me that I’m a virgin.
Maybe I’ll wake up to find that this whole list thing was a long, elaborate dream, and I can go back to being blissfully weird and antisocial and ...
Somewhere between one forced sip of water and the next, I must fall asleep, because I wake up after what feels like hours to the sound of my door closing. Probably just Dylan checking on me, but I’m struggling to find the motivation to move my head the six inches it will take to confirm this suspicion.
Eventually, my bed shifts, slanting to one side, and my head ends up turning of its own volition. I decide I’m dreaming when I see who’s seated beside me, because there’s no way Torres would be in my room after everything that just happened. I’m sure Dylan wouldn’t even let him in. I decide that this must be my subconscious, trying to give me one last good-bye, unreal though it may be.
“I brought you some food,” he says.
I groan. My dream can’t even do me the courtesy of giving me a pleasant last memory. Or is it normal to be drunk in your dreams when you’re drunk in real life?
He breaks the corner off a bread stick and holds it up to my lips. I don’t open.
“Trust me,” he says. “I know you’re tired and probably miserable, but this will help. And the more food and water we get into you now, the less you’ll hate yourself in the morning.”
“Already hate myself,” I say, but I take a bite of the bread stick he’s offering. It takes me forever to chew it, and when I’m done, he holds up another. Grudgingly, I eat it.
“That’s my girl.” And now I know it’s a dream.
He offers me water, and I take it, if only to wash down the bread.
“What happened to our deal?” he asks, and he sounds almost angry. “If you’d waited for me, I could’ve taken care of you. Made sure you didn’t drink too much.”
Since it’s a dream, I don’t see the point in being dishonest.
“I don’t want you to help me with the list.”
“Why not?” Yeah. He’s definitely angry.
“Because I don’t want you to think I’m a loser.”
“Damn it. I think a lot of things about you, Nell. Some of them are certainly not nice, but trust me, they’re all complimentary.” I shake my head, too tired to pick out the meaning of his words. “You’re not a loser, Nell. And I’m going to help you with that list whether you like it or not. I didn’t like coming into your apartment and seeing you with that guy. I don’t like that he’s the one who you shared this first with. I want your firsts.”
