Once Upon a Dream is the fifth book in the Summerhill series by the lovely Kate Perry, and as always I love spending an afternoon with the Summerhill clan.
Summer Welles The illegitimate daughter of Reginald Summerhill. She is a smart, strong, independent, and beautiful lawyer, a little prim and proper maybe, likes to wear black most of the time, but she a true a romantic at heart. Her mother had always told her that she would find her prince charming. Summer believes she has found her Prince Charming, the man who she was going to marry! Her happily ever after! But is he really her prince charming or maybe some else is!! Some who to her is more like a frog.
Once Upon a Dream was about taking chances, acceptance, second chances, trust, and discovering who you are. Summer was a great character I felt a connection to her. I loved being on her journey as discovers that her road to her happy ever after, may be a little different than she imagines. Love the interactions with her sexy alpha frog!! He was great, and I loved how he showed her what falling in love feels like.
I loved that we got more Jacqueline during this story I wasn’t expecting her story so it was a nice surprise. She's been estranged from her daughters for many years, but It was lovely to see their relationship changing and seeing how close they were becoming. She has a second chance at love, and one, which she deserves. I was certainly thinking at one-point woohoo!! You go Jacqueline!
I loved how the other Summerhill sisters were woven into the story; you can see how close that have all become. Loved the witty banter they share. I'm looking forward to reading Viola’s story next as I’m intrigued to see who her leading man will be. I know the man who I would like it to be, but I’m not sure if it will be him.
Overall Once Upon a Dream had everything I expect in a well-written romance story, wonderful characters, and romantic tension. it's an entertaining, lighthearted steamy, romantic read that can be read as a standalone. But as always I recommend that you read the rest of the series first to encounter and get the background knowledge of the rest of the Summerhill family. Kate Perry is such a great storyteller, love her books, and this one was a great addition to the series.
One last note, I must say well-done to Kate, as I'm always grateful when a US author takes the time to research words that the English (that would be me) use. Seeing words like Shag, Wanker, Fancy and Bugger used in the correct context made me smile.
“The fairy princess always goes through tests, to prove that she's worthy of the prince. This is just a quest I have to go through on my way toward happily ever after."
“Each time his lip touch her he had an uncontrollable urge to rip her clothes off and lose himself in her”
“Maybe it's time to stop thinking and to just to with what you feel”
Maybe she should kiss him again and see if he turned into a prince…..Truthfully, she just wanted to kiss him again
Chloe turned to Summer. “I’m stuck for life, but you can still run. It’s not too late.”
Summer blinked. Had Chloe ever talked to her before? “Run to where?”
“Good point.” The teenager sighed. “They’ll just find you and bring you back.”
“You know why?” Viola asked, looping her arms around her daughter’s neck.
“Because we love you,” Vi said, looking at Summer. “You’re ours.”
Kate has tangoed at midnight with a man in blue furry chaps, dueled with flaming swords in the desert, and strutted on bar tops across the world and back. She’s been kissed under the Eiffel Tower, had her butt pinched in Florence, and been serenaded in New Orleans. But she found Happy Ever After in San Francisco with her Magic Man.
Kate's the bestselling author of the Laurel Heights Novels, as well as the Pillow Talk and Guardians of Destiny series. She's been translated into several languages and is quite proud to say she's big in Slovenia. All her books are about strong, independent women who just want love.
Most days, you can find Kate in her favorite café, working on her latest novel. Sometimes she's wearing a tutu. She may or may not have a jeweled dagger strapped to her thigh...

Blog Tour: The Fighting Connolly's book one~ In Kelly's Corner by Roxie Rivera, Stacy's Review & Giveaway
Bee Langston is an internet tech genius who has a very promising future, and is already well on her way to making millions. There’s only one problem. Bee has a stalker and not just any old stalker, we’re talking dirty pictures, text-messaging crazy kind of stalker. Bee runs to the one man who she feels safe with, the one man who she knows can protect her. Kelly Connolly isn’t just any man to Bee, he’s also best friend to Kelly’s now deceased brother Jeb. Kelly is a Marine and fought alongside Jeb, before meeting his own demise in the form of war. Jeb had always entrusted his sister with Kelly, the one man he-himself trusted. So when Bee comes home to a package in her living room, she knows that her stalker has reached a new level of creepy. So Bee doesn’t go to the police, she goes straight to Kelly.
Kelly is now working for a private security firm. His job is to protect people. So when Bee comes to him in a flood of shaky emotion, Kelly has no other option but to protect her. These two have something together that goes beyond chemistry, and the ties that bind them, ties being Jeb of course. Bee and Kelly shared an awkward New Years Eve kiss one year, and neither of them have been the same. Kelly for fear of betraying his best friend, and Bee because Kelly rejected her flat out and never understanding his reaction just hurt her.
As Kelly tries to protect Bee, a number of different obstacles come in to play. Kelly and his two brother’s Jack and Finn are a pretty big part of the story as well. They have a father named Nick who puts them into various bad situations based on his severe gambling addiction. And this huge gambling debt can only be paid one way, Kelly agrees to fight for the Albanian mob in order to fix the situation.
As Kelly goes through his training, Bee still has her stalker and Kelly is trying his best to protect both protect Bee and keep his father safe. And throughout all of this, Kelly and Bee finally submit to their feelings for each other, and it’s actually really sweet the way they finally overcome the walls they once had up. But the party can’t last forever. Trust is broken, lies are told and this all makes for some good angst. There’s a little twist towards the end with Bee’s stalker that I didn’t see coming as well.
Ultimately I enjoyed the story, I just think that there was a lot of different things going on at the same time, which I believe took a little away from the romance of the story. I found myself going back and forth between sub-plots and finding myself confused at times. Ultimately I really enjoyed the characters, and the writing was done very well. I love a good story with a protecting-alpha any day!
