Release Review Tour - Worth the Chance (MMA Fighter #2) by Vi Keeland ~ Ava and Derna's 5 Star Reviews and Giveaway
"Is he worth the chance? The chance that maybe if you let him in, he'll stay this time?"
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*
I loved book one, Worth the Fight and even though Vinny was only a young boy in the first book, I was looking forward to his story, now that he is all grown up. I'm not too clear on the time frame between books, I think roughly 11-12 years have passed. Vinny is now 25 and is at the top of his fighting game. Nico from book one is still his close friend, trainer and confidant. It was really nice to see Nico and Elle make an appearance again in Vinny's story.
A face from Vinny's past appears and catches him completely by surprise. Liv used to tutor Vinny and she had a major crush on him, they started something and Liv fell hard for Vinny but in a moment of weakness, Vinny doubted his self worth and decided he wasn't good enough for Liv so he walked away and broke her heart in the process. Seven years later and their coincidental meeting means Vinny isn't going to hold back this time. Liv and Vinny are both adults and Vinny is going to take what he wants. I loved this side of Vinny. His demanding ways didn't come across as controlling or chauvinistic, he was just plain hot!
Liv was a character I warmed to immediately. From the brief flashbacks, it was clear she had deep feelings for Vinny and even though she tried to guard her heart and resist him this time around, her willpower wasn't strong enough, and who could blame the girl! ;-)
"He's still the same. The same boy that takes what he wants and doesn't look back. Except now he's a man. God, he's all man."
"Trust me about one thing, Liv . . . whatever is going on between us, it's going to happen. You can make it as difficult as you want, but we, Liv, are going to happen. Neither one of us can stop it."
Liv had a very difficult decision to make, she was in line for her dream job at the most popular newspaper but in order to secure the position, it meant she would have to sacrifice Vinny. All Liv wanted to do was protect him from the hurt that would inevitably follow and I loved her for that. Yes, I wished she would have came clean sooner but only because I knew it wouldn't end well and I was nervous as I was so caught up in the story, I felt I was withholding the secret too!
Vinny didn't have the easiest of upbringings but it was due to Nico and his fighting that kept him on the straight and narrow. Even though his mum wasn't there for him and had kept him in the dark, whenever she was in trouble, Vinny was always there for her, no questions asked.
"There's an ache in my chest I just can't ignore anymore. This complex man protects his mother, yet has no one to protect him."
I fell hard for Vinny and Liv from the beginning, I think their shared history helped and the familiarity they had. Some might say Vinny switched from player to devoted boyfriend all too easily but I didn't see it that way, sure Vinny was no angel but it was as if he was always waiting on Liv, as soon as she appeared on the scene, the other women melted into the background, they no longer mattered to Vinny. Even when their relationship was tested, I didn't doubt Vinny and I'm glad Liv was a strong woman that she didn't truly doubt him either.
The chemistry between Liv and Vinny was hot. There were plenty of smexy scenes and Vinny liked to take control, it made for sexy reading but it was done in such a way that it didn't detract from the main story line, it just heightened their connection.
I thought the storyline was really interesting and it took a turn that I didn't see coming. My interest was held throughout the whole book, so much so that I may have skipped all real life activities until I finished this in one sitting. I really enjoyed the author's writing. This is only my second book by Vi Keeland and so far it's two for two. I found myself highlighting so many passages as the phrasing was so sweet and poignant.
The story flowed really well, the flashbacks strengthened Liv and Vinny's relationship and the dual point of view enabled me to connect with both characters. I would say there was a lot crammed in to the last 10% of the book and there were a few issues that I felt could have been expanded. However, with that being said, it didn't hamper my enjoyment and although Vinny and Liv's story was concluded, Vinny's background may well be revisited in book three.
The final book in the series will centre on a character introduced in this book called Jax. Jax really wasn't in this book long enough for me to form an opinion of him. I would have liked a little more about him to make me want his story now. I will of course read it when the time comes, I just wanted a little more from him. I thought it might have been good if Liv's roommate Ally got a story but it seems we have yet to meet the heroine for book three, so I remain intrigued.
Worth the Chance was a book I thoroughly enjoyed. Being a fan of Vinny in book one, I was guaranteed to love him. Dare I say, I loved him more than Nico?! This book can be read as a standalone as can book one, so I urge you to read both books, it doesn't matter the order just as long as you read them. It also helps if you read them with the yummy cover models in mind, it really adds to the reading pleasure ;-)
The story ended with the sweetest epilogue, Liv’s tender actions for Vinny brought tears to my eyes. It was a lovely moment. Of course, I’ll be greedy and say I wanted a greater look into their future but something tells me we will get that in book three.
"I'm rewriting the ending of our story, Liv. I'm giving you your happily ever after. I promise."
Worth the Chance is well worth the read and Vinny is one MMA fighter just waiting to steal your heart today!
"I can't think around this boy. He makes my brain turn to mush so that I forget to breathe. Who forgets to breathe? I'm such a dork."
"Unable to speak, my breath literally stolen from my lungs, his words wash away all my doubt, leaving the path to my heart free and he takes one step closer to owning it. Again."
"I know exactly what he's feeling as tears well up behind his eyes, love pouring out unbridled for no other reason than his heart decided it loved. I know because I feel it too . . . stating at Vinny."
"He's a good man, Liv. He'll make a good father and husband someday." She reaches for my hand and squeezes. "When you're ready." ~ Elle
"I. Protect, You. Liv. I don't need you to protect me. That's how it works.
"No. We protect each other. That's how it works."
"You ready to get out of here? I'm pretty sure you owe me a shitload of makeup sex."
"Love you too, Liv." Vinny's lips cover mine as he seals a kiss on words I've waited almost a decade to hear."

When we last saw Vince ‘Vinny’ Stone in Worth the Fight, he was the smart-ass thirteen-year-old kid. He was in a bad place back then, getting into fights at school, had a bad home life as his mother was a screw up, and could barely take care of herself let alone Vinny. Nico had taken him under his wing, given Vinny a focus, support, and an outlet for his fighting.
Well Vinny Stone is all grown up now, and what a man he has turned into. He’s a top fighter, a force of nature who was without a doubt a sexy, strong, confident sweet, funny and a dirty talking alpha male with tattoos who loves to be in control. He loves the women and the woman love him, and yes you guessed it so did I ;)
Liv Michaels is a smart, independent reporter and the girl from high school whom Vinny loved and left of seven years before. When fate brings them back together, Vinny knows he isn’t going to make that mistake again. Liv loved Vinny back in high school too, and was broken hearted when he just left. Seeing him again, all her feelings come flooding back, but she is more hesitant as she doesn’t want to get hurt again.
“I just can’t keep my eyes off him…which is why I need to keep far, far away from Vince Stone”
“Trust me about one thing, Liv... whatever is going on between us is going to happen. You can make it as difficult as you want, but we, Liv, are going to happen. Neither one of us can stop it.”
I loved the storyline; it was sexy, funny, and passionate, with some angst and drama thrown in. Told from both points of view; I loved getting inside Vinny and Liv’s heads, to get an insight into what they were thinking and feeling. I loved the flashbacks that enabled us to see how they met, how their friendship and relationship developed, it was really sweet.
"I want you Liv, I wanted you seven years ago, I want you even more now, I need you."
“All I’d ever done is ruin things. I didn’t want to ruin you.”
Liv and Vinny were great characters and were great together. The chemistry and the passion that they had for each other is still there, and as a result, there are some hot, steamy, smoking scenes.
"All you got do is say no, Liv. But, I'm giving you fair warning...if you don't tell me no, I'm going to take you. And then you're mine to do with as I please."
The banter between these two made me laugh so many times. It’s not all smooth sailing there are a few bumps in the road; his mother, a jealous workmate, tough choices, and few misunderstandings added to their drama.
There were some great secondary characters, I loved seeing Nico (swoon) and Elle again and to discover what had been happening with them. I loved the special relationship they both had with Vinny, and the fact they continued to support him. Vinny knows Nico will never take any crap from him. I also loved Liv’s roommate, Ally, she was a scream and Summer, well I wanted to punch her.
Overall, I really loved Worth the Chance, another great book from Vi Keeland, I love her writing style as it’s always engaging from the start, and the charterers she creates. I was a little anxious towards the end as to how it was going to play out, but it was all good. I loved that Vi never leaves you with a cliffhanger. I liked the epilogue it was sweet, but I did want more. You know me if you’re going to give me one then I want it big.
I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, Worth Forgiving, which is Jax’s story. We briefly met this guy, he's another sexy alpha fighter that I can't wait to meet. I have a feeling that we will get more of Vinny and Liv in that one.
Worth The Chance was just what I needed after the heavy and very emotional read of my last book, and perfect for a quick read on a Sunday afternoon. If you loved Nico, then you are definitely going to love Vinny. Nico has taught the boy well. ;-)
"But I want you, Liv. More. Just damn more. I’m not even sure what that means myself, yet I’m surer of it than anything I’ve ever been in my entire screwed up life.”
“You feel it, I know you do…Kiss me, then tell me I'm wrong."
"I want to promise you I'll slow down, take things slower, but I don't want to start things off on a lie, I'm not sure I can do slow around you, Liv."
“It’s been two days and I still can’t stop thinking about Liv. She’s stuck in my head. I see her every time I close my eyes.”
“But that kiss. It was unlike anything I’ve ever felt in my life. Filled with passion and desire, it made me forget where I was. Who I was. Being near him is dangerous.”
