Authors: Krista & Becca Ritchie
Release Date: March 28, 2014
Genre: New Adult Romance: recommended for readers 18+ for mature content
Ryke Meadows, meet Daisy Calloway ... she’s all grown up.
Twenty-five-year-old Ryke Meadows knows he’s hard to love. With a billion-dollar inheritance, a track-star resume, and an alpha-male personality—he redefines the term likable asshole. But he’s not living to make friends. Or enemies. He just wants to free climb three of the toughest mountains in Yosemite without drama or interruption.
And then he receives a distressed call from a girl in Paris—a girl that he has never been allowed to have.
Daisy Calloway is eighteen. Finally. With her newfound independence, she can say goodbye to her overbearing mother and continue her modeling career. Next stop, Paris. Fashion Week begins with a bang, and Daisy uncovers the ugly reality of the industry. She wants to prove to her family that she can live on her own, but when everything spirals out of control, she turns to Ryke to keep her secrets.
As Daisy struggles to make sense of this new world and her freedom, she pushes the limits and fearlessly rides the edge. Ryke knows there’s deep hurt beneath every impulsive action. He must keep up with Daisy, and if he lets her go, her favorite motto—“live as if you’ll die today”—may just come true.
Hothouse Flower is a spin-off of the Addicted series. Kiss the Sky is required before reading, and we strongly recommend reading the Addicted series before this spin-off.

"I’ll take each day as they come. Live in the moment with Ryke Meadows. If I ever die, I want that across my headstone."
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*
Oooooh I LOVE this series so much!! I'm always in for a special treat when I read a book by Krista and Becca Ritchie. Hothouse Flower was everything I wanted it to be and everything I knew it would be. Daisy was strong, vulnerable, determined, wild and free. She came into her own in this book and I'm so glad it was her turn in the spotlight. Ryke was the perfect match for her, he was strong enough to protect Daisy whilst simultaneously allowing her to spread her wings and fly.
"I didn’t realize it was there— that need—until the nightmares of my dreams became the nightmares of my life. And he’s the kind of guy who wants to slay all those monsters for me. Too bad he can’t get to the ones in my head."
Her older sisters have always overshadowed Daisy, both Rose and Lily have had scandals in the media causing everyone and their actions to be scrutinised. Daisy suffered due to this but having a large age gap between her sisters she reverted to being seen and not heard. But those secrets were eating away at Daisy and causing her emotional, psychological and physiological distress. Luckily, Daisy was never truly alone, she found companionship in the most unlikely of places; Lily's soon to be brother-in-law. That connection alone meant Ryke should be off limits but the fact Ryke is seven years older than Daisy means he shouldn't even entertain the thought. Of course, that's asking for the impossible.
"I try not to look at her as anything more than she can be. But she’s gorgeous, not because she has this natural fucking beauty— no makeup and bold green eyes, smooth skin and a delicate face. She’s beautiful because she can make the saddest person in the world grin. And she can make the loneliest guy feel something more."
Ryke and Daisy's friendship was introduced in Kiss the Sky. Daisy was only 16 at the time and Ryke took on a protector role, always saving Daisy from whatever rebellious streak she was carrying out. Now in Hothouse Flower, Daisy is all grown up and over the last two years her friendship with Ryke has grown stronger and a whole lot deeper than either are willing to admit. It takes a panicked phone call from Daisy for Ryke to drop everything and finally realise it's time to claim the girl that has his heart. That makes for a sweet romance but add in an alcoholic half-brother, a sex addicted sister, an estranged father and an overbearing mother and that's when you get the real story!
When starting this book I will admit the length of 441 pages intimidated me, it was a long one and I worried there would be so much excess that wasn't needed. I may have had a slip of amnesia because did I forget who it was written by? Every word was essential in this story. Every part needed to be told. What I love about the Addicted and Calloway Sisters series’ is that it's not just one couple at a time you learn about, sure it's from Ryke and Daisy's POV and they are very much front and centre but it's also about their family. The book wouldn't be the same without them and all six characters are essential for the dynamic to work.
It was great to witness the growth in Daisy during this book. She had always been older than her years because she began modelling when she was only 15 but now she really grew into her own and she was experiencing real love and a very healthy (and totally hot) sexual relationship for the first time. Daisy stood up for herself, it wasn't easy and a horrific event was the catalyst but nonetheless she began to say no to her mother's demands and felt all the more freer for it. She also bared herself to her sisters and let them in for the first time. It was a poignant moment and by the end, I was so pleased Daisy was no longer seen as the invisible, younger sister.
"He’s taking care of me to a new degree. It makes me feel more than just loved. I feel like I’m truly his."
Ryke, oh dear God, where do I begin with this man? He made me weak at the knees that’s for sure. It can’t be denied he has a filthy mouth on him but oh the things he does with it, Bow-chicka-wow-wow . I don’t think a book character has ever made me this giddy! Ryke didn’t pussyfoot about. He told the truth and demanded the same in return. He felt like Daisy did amongst their circle, he was on the outside looking in and not quite accepted yet for whom he was. His relationship with Lo was strained to say the least and the way he was treated as a child contaminated his relationship with his family still. I didn’t think I would get as emotional as I did when reading Ryke’s story yet I did. He was so confused and consumed by anger but at the end of the day, he just wanted acceptance and the opportunity to love the girl that meant everything to him.
"I’ve been sleeping in the same bed as her. I’ve been taking care of her. She’s mine. She feels like she belongs to me. I don’t want to share her with any other fucking guy. And I don’t want to be with any other fucking girl."
"I want to be the one to protect Daisy. I want to be the one to hold her in my arms. I want to comfort her until she reanimates in pure fucking happiness. I don’t want to miss a day with her. I don’t want to be here while she’s there. And I can’t take back these feelings. I can’t go in reverse. I just drive forward at a hundred and fifty miles per hour. I’m racing towards her when I should be slamming on the fucking brakes. I know how to stop. But I’m not going to. I don’t want to. That’s the fucking truth."
Ryke never planned to take it further with Daisy, he knew the age gap was an issue and he never wanted to betray his brother’s warning to stay away from her. But Ryke saw Daisy for who she really was and she was the only one that could do the same in return for him. I never once felt the age gap was too great and I never once felt Ryke acted inappropriately. He was Daisy’s friend first and foremost and her protector but taking it further was always inevitable.
"He’s the hero of my story, but he refuses to claim any of those moments, as if they don’t matter."
Their relationship was hot. Daisy wasn’t inexperienced sexually but she was timid and still had a lot to learn. Ryke was passionate, demanding and wanted to give Daisy what no other man could give her. Luckily, for us this made for some very scorching scenes!
"He holds me securely, his arms firmly on my hips. And then he grinds forward, his dick right up against the spot that begins to ache and pulse. I have never been so wrapped up in a single person, in a single moment.
Ryke Meadows has invigorated my body and soul.
He is more than just my pillow.
He’s my everything."
"We’re shielded from the road, private for the most part, but it’s still new. It’s still a place I’ve never fucked, and what we’re about to do, I’ve never done. On a motorcycle. With a girl I fucking love."
As always it was great to see Lily, Lo, Rose and Connor as part of this journey. Lily and Lo are still struggling with their addictions but they are fighting everyday to reach a better place, and even though they were initially my least favourite couple. I am beginning to see what I have been missing all along, they are fragile but their unconditional love makes them stronger than anything that will come between them.
Rose and Connor make me laugh, they should stick out like sore thumbs amongst Lily, Lo, Daisy and Ryke as they are so polished and refined yet they don’t. They bring a calming presence to the group and they are so protective of their family. They have such an unusual relationship dynamic and I love it. It’s always a battle of wills between the intelligent pair and it’s great to read about.
I couldn’t put this book down. Unfortunately, I had to, so I crammed in four hours of sleep then went straight back in again! I got so excited when reading it; I literally squeezed my kindle and had a big goofy smile on my face as some of the scenes were so fantastic. Repeatedly I paused to think, this is actually amazing. I’m so glad I have my book girls who get me. I think I paused a million times to leave comments like “omg he’s so hot!” “this book is fantastic” “agh I love it”. I just didn’t want this reading experience to end.
“I’ve ignored a lot of bad shit in my life, but I don’t want to ignore this one good thing anymore. It’s too painful.” He stares at me deeply, my chest rising with something pure and warm. “I kissed you tonight because I want your lips to only touch mine. From now until forever. That’s the fucking truth.”
Krista and Becca Ritchie are a writing duo who excels in what they do. Their writing is flawless, I loved the alternating point of view. I got to see the hidden depths of each character and I just fell harder for them. I loved that Daisy’s modelling experience wasn’t sugar coated. It was exactly as I expect it to be. Ryke’s passion of free-solo climbing perfectly suited him and I loved that element of the story. There is so much detail in each book, the characters and writing are so consistent and I truly hope more people discover their work. This series is not one to be missed.
Hothouse Flower has the perfect title, the perfect cover and the most perfectly imperfect relationship captured between the pages. I will literally be counting down the days until I get to spend time with these characters again.
"Daisy has changed that for me. She made me comfortable to share my life with someone else, to live for happiness in the company of others .
My solitary future looks bleak.
But my future filled with my brother , my friends, her—there’s nothing fucking brighter.
She’s the sun. I’m the dark.
If she’s gone, I can kiss that fucking light away.
Without her, I know I’ll never see it again."
“What we fucking have,” he says. “I love you beyond physical attraction.” He cups my smooth cheek, looking deep into my eyes. “I love you, Dais, because you’re the wildest fucking girl with the biggest fucking heart. And without you in my life”— he shakes his head like it’s an inconceivable picture—“ I’d be the unhappiest fucking guy.”
“You love me,” I breathe. He lets out a short laugh. “You’re such a fucking girl.” “Say it again.”
He smiles, a full blown one that tingles my body all over. “I fucking love you, sweetheart.”
"I’m going to build a relationship with her father, even if it means having to get closer to mine. It’s a sacrifice I am willing to make a thousand times over. I’d fucking call that love."

Krista Ritchie has a clone...or someone who looks exactly like her. If she's not writing books with her twin sister, she's pouring over entertainment news and ingesting copious amounts of pop culture. She likes tennis, that thing called the TV, and beating Becca (her clone) on Sega Genesis. She created YA Book Exchange to combat her book buying addiction and started Nawanda Files, a YA Book Blog that features books into movies news, to share her love for all things bookish. Oh, and she does something called science. Whatever that is.
Krista & Becca Ritchie write New Adult books that make you cringe, gasp, and go ooh-la-la. (If you do that sort of thing.) They are currently working on the spin-offs and final books in the Addicted series.
