Release Day Launch - Strangers for the Night (For The Night Series #1) by C.J. Fallowfield ~ Ava and Brittany's Review
*I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.*
The synopsis alone will make you want to read Logan Steele’s story. He is a male gigolo and the best at what he does. For a very hefty fee, he will make your wildest fantasies come true.
Book one is the story of Logan and Camilla, a very spoiled daddy’s girl who wants to experience a real man for the night. Logan is slick and very suave. As hard as Camilla tries, she can’t pull the wool over his eyes. Camilla has a plan to make Logan break his cardinal rule of no feelings and one night only. The way in which it was written, added a touch of humour and espionage to the story.
I liked Logan; he didn’t completely win me over, as he was quite aloof. There were tiny glimpses of the real man behind the escort and I do believe we will see more of that as the series continues.
This was my first book by C.J. Fallowfield, the story was easy to read and I liked the dual point of views. Both characters were written well, as Camilla had the annoying, whiny girl down pat. As this is an erotic novella, the sex was in abundance. To begin with it was hot, but as it went on (and on and on) I felt it less as there obviously wasn’t any feelings involved for Logan. He wanted in and out as quickly as possible, quite literally. I would read more of C.J.’s work, as I am definitely intrigued.
Strangers for The Night is novella one of eight. Each book will cover Logan and a different client. After discovering this, I did wonder if there would be romance in this series, I can’t help it but I crave the connection between two characters. In this book there is a hint of Logan’s real persona behind his ‘act’ and for some reason his next client has bewitched him. Perhaps the novellas have the intention of eight different sexy reads for individual enjoyment. I’m not sure, or perhaps someone will crop up that Logan wants more with. As it stands, I really want to read the second book in the series as I am intrigued by Summer, but if it was to then go on with no long lasting connection, I would be reluctant to continue.
This novella series is quick and hot, I think a lot of people will enjoy it and succumb to Logan’s charms. It is worth checking out.
After reading the synopsis for Strangers for the Night, I was intrigued! I think the premise for this entire series is fun, sexy, and I had high hopes that it would be very entertaining. And it was. Logan Steele is a high class gigolo, as stated in the blurb. He's extremely good at what he does, and has the reputation to back it up. But his services don't come cheap. For Camilla Domville, money is of no consequence, and she just has to have a taste of Logan. But she doesn't want to settle for just one night. She has some tricks up her sleeve, but, unfortunately for her, Logan isn't easily fooled.
Very early on in this book, it was obvious that Logan was cocky and arrogant, but a character that I was really looking forward to knowing, despite this. I was a bit surprised to see the author introduce the main character of the next book so early on, before we had even had a chance to meet Camilla. I have to say, though, it almost made me wish I was reading her story instead of Camilla's! Camilla is a girl who depends on her wealthy Daddy for everything, even when he doesn't know it. She hired Logan because she had heard amazing things about his "skill" and was bored with her sex life. Camilla was a character that I wasn't very fond of, something that shows how well she was written. She was spoiled, manipulative, and really just a whiny brat. This all came across very clearly while reading. I was happy to see her get a taste of her own medicine in the end.
As for Logan, there were aspects of his personality that bothered me a bit. While being intimate with Camilla, his mind was always somewhere else. Sometimes with a past girlfriend, sometimes with his next client, and sometimes on other inconsequential things. Despite him feeding Camilla all the right lines, I found his interaction with her to be impersonal. Although he did do well, considering how awful Camilla was, something that was no secret to him. Seeing how unsatisfied he was with his "work" made me a bit sad for him, and I was dying to know the history there. He definitely held back with his clients and I needed to know why. I think these things, however, are part of what makes him a complex character. I have no doubt that we'll slowly but surely be able to see Logan's development in future books. I'm excited to find out more about Logan's past (and his day job), as well as his hangups, as the series progresses.
Strangers for the Night was a highly enjoyable, quick read. It was very fast paced, to the point, and very sexy. I think you'll find it to be a fun way to pass a few hours. The sex was in abundance, being an erotic novella, and I honestly could have done without quite so much. But that's just me-- If you love a lot of steam, you should absolutely check it out. By the time I finished reading, I was really excited to pick up book two. I will definitely continue with this series.
The novellas in this series are told in alternating point-of-views; we'll get Logan's and that of his current client, as well. These books are written as standalones, but would be best enjoyed in proper order.
