Blair is looking for an escape. West is looking for a connection. One down and out woman. One isolated rock star. Life at the top is lonely, but so is life at the bottom. Blair is just looking for someone to take the edge off her crappy life. Dull the pain, breathe a little life into her neglected body. A chance meeting at a bar leads to a night of passion. No names, no personal details. Just sex. Well, it wasn't personal until she sees the guy standing on a stage ten meters in front of her. How the hell didn't she realize that the guy who blew her mind is the guitarist out of that dirty rock'n'roll band, Affliction? And why is he chasing her down the street? And how does he know her name? Sometimes you find the things you didn't even know you were looking for in the most unexpected places.

"He would get my body, but he'd never get my heart."
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*
Unexpected was a shake up to the rock star meets ordinary girl storyline. Blair is in-your-face and looking for no strings whereas West has had enough of groupie hook ups and he is searching for a connection with that special someone. They meet in a bar and the chemistry is undeniable but Blair makes it clear it is a one time offer. That is until West shows her what she has been missing.
"By the end of the week, one of us would be broken and I was determined that it wouldn't be me. I couldn't do it again. West didn't seem like a man who was easy to come back from . . . if you ever came back at all."
At the beginning I didn't take to Blair, I get that she had a tough exterior and she was this brash girl but it was a bit of a turn off for me and I didn't warm to her. West was a sweetie from the get go, he had hit rock bottom and he needed to stay on the straight and narrow, his life and career depended on it. But something about Blair spoke to him and he couldn't let her go after the night they shared. I did feel the chemistry between them and their first night was hot, it was just the instalove that followed after that I wasn't so keen on. They had a week to spend together, for West to change Blair's mind about attachments and how a relationship could be good for both of them. And Blair had a pretty big decision to make towards the end.
If you love bad boy rockers then I have no doubt you will fall head over heels for West. It was an easy read and plenty of drama was thrown into the short story. The author's writing flowed well and West definitely had me on side, I felt like Blair needed greater character development to enable me to really get her. I felt we only skimmed the surface where she was concerned. I wasn't totally hooked, so I'm unsure if I will follow the rest of their journey but Unexpected was a pleasant read all the same and you should check it out for yourself.
Amity Cross isn't my real name. That's no secret. I didn't want my Mum and my workplace to find out I wrote about doodles and tongue-in-cheek sexual innuendo. I live in a leafy suburb of Melbourne writing about screwed up relationships and kick ass female leads that don't take s**t lying down. Insert more pretentious c**p here.
