*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*
Breaking Kate is the D. Kelly’s début novel, and the first in the “Acceptance series." It was an enjoyable read, that I found engaging from the start. I won’t say much about the storyline as I feel the synopsis really does gives what you need to know, but I will say the story was touching, sexy, funny and sweet.
It is mainly told from Kate, and Daniel POV and I liked knowing what they both were feeling. Kate and Daniel are likeable characters. Kate is very selfless, and always puts others first, and Daniel has such a big heart. I liked Kate and Daniel they have such great chemistry, and were hot together although at first I felt their relationship was a little too insta love for me, I could understand it after the heartache that they both had been through. From the start, they are honest with other about their feelings and share things easily.
You also get Mike’s POV, and I would have liked more of it as there were times that wanted to know more about his feelings and thoughts as this may have made me warm to him more, because I wasn’t a fan of his after the way he treated Kate. So I was Team Daniel all the way.
I liked the interaction between Kate, and her best friend Jess and Conner are hilarious and touching at times they had such a great friendship. So much love and support for her.
Overall Breaking Kate, is an enjoyable read about fate, soul mates, second chances, forgiveness, love and loss. It was well written, however, did find it a little slow in the middle, but this may have been because I was slightly impatience I wanted to know what was going to know the aftermath of when Kate and Mike paths finally collided. I didn’t know the book was going to end on a cliffhanger or should I say “To Be continue" but in some way, I’m glad it did as the ending would have been all to rush, especially with the way things were heading, and the twists that the author had added.
I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series Catching Kate to see what happens next for Kate, Daniel, Mike and some of the other secondary characters.
“Sometimes all love needs is two people who believe in it enough to resurrect it, and keep it alive”
“It hits me that not only is she making me feel like myself again, but she is the only girl that has ever made my heart skip a beat at first sight”
“My body responds to yours, the smallest touches feel electrifying, and that scares me a lot”
“There is something about you, though. Something about how honest you are with me, how your eyes reflected your sadness, and pain at the same time”
“I don’t often let people into my world. My trust issues run deep, and it terrifies me how easily I seem to be letting my guard down around him”
“The only person in my life that has ever held my heart in his hands broke it into tiny jagged pieces’.
His lips are almost brushing against mine, so close I can feel his breath caress my lips… it’s intoxicating. Daniel places one hand on the back of my head, pulling me forward to close the small gap between us as his perfect lips meet mine for a gentle, yet utterly heart-stopping kiss. This is the first kiss fairytales are spun from. My heartbeat is still rapid, my pulse is still racing, and I can’t for the life of me figure out why I have waited so long to find him. This man was obviously made just for me. Daniel stops kissing me, resting his forehead against mine.I reach up and run my fingers through his hair, and I feel him suck in his breath as he slowly he moves his lips to mine. Gently kissing me, he parts my lips with his tongue, making his way into my mouth. When his tongue caresses mine I feel butterflies in my stomach. What the hell? The feeling is exceptional; it’s unlike anything I’ve ever felt before. I’m lost in it and to it.
I'm a wife, a mom and a dog lover. I'm also a taxi, problem fixer, extreme multi-tasker and my kids biggest fan in anything that they do. I love to write, so when my career suddenly turned into a job that I hated I turned back to my love of writing. I married my high school sweetheart... how cool is that? Margaritas and sarcasm make me happy. Chocolate makes that happiness grow exponentially. People who make me laugh are my favorite kind of people. I believe Karma is a bitch who slaps back hard and that mean people suck. I'm California born and raised, I love the beach but hate the sand. Breaking Kate is my first novel and is part of The Acceptance Series.
