She doesn't wear my ring. We never stood before a preacher. The only vows exchanged were between our bodies; between our souls. But she was mine and I was hers until I ruined it. I have to believe that every day, every step, every breath brings me closer to making things right. To making her mine again.
I've seen promises broken. I know love makes no guarantees. But things were different for Rhys and me, until he lied, and I walked away. Only there's a chain between our hearts that I can't break. Even if I forgive him, a shadow from my past hangs over us; over this love that reaches all the way down to my soul.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
As Rhyson states in this book, love is one thing. But to adore something? That's love with cherries on top. And this book? I didn’t love it. I adored it.
“Don’t forget I’m yours and you’re mine. I LIVE you.”
Down To My Soul starts right where book one leaves off. Rhyson’s calculating and manipulating ways has pushed Kai into the arms of some people he doesn’t trust. But Kai wants to do things her way. She’s devastated by his actions and is determined to be known through her talent, not by being Rhyson Gray’s girlfriend.
“Every wall I’d ever raised, every defense I had, you got past them all.”
Sacrifices. Lies. Secrets. That is what Rhyson and Kai face. There are so many obstacles their love must get through. Their story is high on emotions and full of highs and lows. While they struggle with forgiveness, darkens threatens their foundation. But through it all, they love harder. Deeper. Louder. Rhyson’s love for Kai left me breathless. For a man to love with such conviction is beautiful. His love is felt in his words to Kai. In his actions. Even when he wasn’t speaking, his love for her poured off of the pages. He adored her. He loved without regard. Kai gave something to Rhyson no one has never given him before. She made him realize that he is worthy of earth shattering love. The kind of love he shares with Kai. He's never been given love or shared love with another. But that's because his soul had been waiting to give his heart over to Kai.
“I want to be known, Pep, and I want to know you. Fully. I need to believe there isn’t any dark part of me I can’t trust you with, and I need you to believe the same.”
You do not fully understand the intensity and passion between Rhyson and Kai until this book. Their love is deep. Their heart beats for the other. Their souls tethered and the author never tells you this. She allows you to feel it. My heart soared. My pulse quickened. I felt the moment where there was no turning back. Not for either of them. Once they gave their love, they were all in. Their love is absolute. Unyielding. Relentless. Their love is profound. Their love simply moved me. What a privilege to read a love like theirs.
“She blurs everything. Erases every line I’ve drawn in the sand. Forces me to rethink the boundaries of right, wrong, acceptable, never would, and couldn’t ever.” She’s my absolute.”
Can we please talk about the writing? How can one person articulate love with words? Deep, meaningful, beautiful words? This author is a master at crafting each word meticulously as she weaves you through a story of love, hope, and forgiveness. Her voice is loud, yet soft. Her writing gives breath to all of her characters as she allows the readers to get lost in them. Her words are magic. Lyrical as you get deeper. The words of this book have easily become my favorite love song. And her characters? They lodge themselves deep within your heart. Down To My Soul is written in both POVs and the transitions back and forth are done flawlessly.
“I can be quiet with you.’
“Then do it. Be quiet with me, baby.”
Down To My Soul is a poignant story about the resilience of the human heart. How love saves. It endures. Love is powerful. Breathtaking. Overwhelming. But love is also scary. Love hurts. It can break you. Love makes you vulnerable. It leaves you raw. Open. But love is also worth that risk. Rhyson and Kai’s story is a testimony to this.
I just can't write about myself in third person for one more bio! I'm a wife, a mom, a writer, an advocate for families living with autism. That's me in a nutshell. Crack the nut, and you'll find a Southern girl gone Southern California who loves pizza and Diet Coke, and wishes she got to watch a lot more television. You can usually catch me up too late, on social media too much, or FINALLY putting a dent in my ever-growing To Be Read list! I love to hear from readers at firstname.lastname@example.org.
