From USA Today Bestselling Author, Renée Carlino, comes a totally unique love story that is sure to make you question what’s out there . . . or who.
“My guardian angel is a drunk.”
Evelyn Casey's life is at a standstill. She's in her mid-twenties, struggling with the dating scene in San Francisco. Nothing seems to be working out, and she’s starting to think that she’ll live out her days in her crummy apartment with her overbearing roommate, Brooklyn. It's absurd, but sometimes Evey longs for a guardian angel to show up and save the day.
And then he does. Seriously. His name is Lucian and he's a guardian angel, been on the job for two thousand years. His sudden presence in her life is both good—he's brilliant, witty, and warm—and bad—he's brilliant, witty, warm, and hot as ----. But as perfect as Lucian seems, he’s got problems of his own. He’s taken up drinking and he’s brazenly inserted himself into Evey’s life, going against the greatest cosmic law ever created.
For Evey, the rules are simple: You are not allowed to hook up with your guardian angel. But sometimes fulfilling your destiny requires a leap of faith, a confrontation with God.
Yes, God as in God.

“Love is selfish, isn’t it?”
Evey Casey is living a life that isn’t going anywhere. Her job and love life are at a standstill. What else can possibly go wrong? Well she meets a man who claims to be her guardian angel. And he’s drunk. Lucian. He’s easily the best looking man she’s ever met. This can’t be possible. Why would someone like her have an angel with the life she is living? Well Evey is about to learn so much about her life that she could have ever imagined. Lucian awakens something in her soul. A spark she never knew existed. Lucian knows there are consequences, but he’s tethered to Evey. And now that she knows about him. He simply can’t let go.
"You are everything to me. You're the dream, the air, the reason, the cause for my whole existence."
Evey and Lucian’s connection was quite instant. They embark on their own journey to love without any abandon. There is so much that goes unanswered. So much to explain. So much that can’t be explained. One thing that cannot be questioned is their unyielding faith in what they have in each other. A love story that is unexpected but heartfelt. I think the lesson here is that no matter how far fetched, challenging, or vulnerable love is, love is worth that risk and leap of faith. Always.
"I'd die ten thousand deaths for you."
I found this book to be a quick read. It wasn’t anything particularly earth shattering or life changing, but it was likeable. While Lucian Divine was quite different than her usual stories, I do commend the author for stepping outside the norm and giving her readers an intense yet unique love story. It is truly unlike anything I’ve ever read.
