I knew little of Raphael Amado’s history with my family, but when he turned up on our doorstep demanding restitution, my grandfather quickly conceded. That restitution? Me.
Six months later, on my eighteenth birthday, Raphael came for me. He stole me from my home, taking me to his Tuscan estate, where from the crumbling chapel to the burnt-down vineyard, to the cellar that haunted him, the past stalked him like a shadow. It waited for him, hid behind corners for him and trapped him at every turn.
As much as Raphael's cruelty terrified me, his darkness seduced me. But in the end, it was his tenderness that devastated me.
Sofia came to me like an offering. Like a virgin to be sacrificed at the altar. But truth was, her grandfather betrayed her. I guess we had that in common. He’d screwed me too.
I knew hate. I'd vowed vengeance. This was never supposed to be about anything else. But in the end, her innocence broke me. The very thing I would destroy, destroyed me.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I will admit that I am not usually a reader of dark romance. I love angst and suspense, however I am usually unable to connect to the characters and/or the storyline. But when it comes to Natasha Knight’s novels I can never say no. There is something about them. Although dark and twisty, they just pull you in and never let you go. Dishonorable was no different. This was my favorite of hers to date.
“Take care when fighting the monsters you don’t become one.”
Raphael Amado has a history with Sofia Guardia’s family. He wants revenge. A debt to be paid. To teach her grandfather a lesson, he takes Sofia as his bride. Unwilling and hesitant, she goes as she knows this will protect her family. Most importantly her sister’s future. In a sense, she has become collateral damage. I won’t go into the plot too much, but the way this story is executed was simply brilliant and addicting. I held on to every last word. I was hooked from the prologue but to learn the family history and how everything unfolds truly testifies to the gifted talent of this author.
“Because some part of me, it liked this side of him. This damaged, dark, broken soul. It longed to touch him. To touch that fractured part of him. The one that left him open and lost and dangerous.”
In true Natasha Knight fashion, this is not for the faint at heart. Raphael is fractured. His soul in pieces. There is no lightness that revolves around him. He simply lives in darkness. The story is flawlessly narrated in dual POVs. It flows effortlessly moving between both the voices of Sofia and Raphael and the pacing of the story is skillfully fulfilled. This book is also very hot. The steam and darkness is perfectly balanced with emotions that simply jump off the page. You will feel anger for Raphael. And your heart will also bleed for him and everything he has endured. The author allows you to feel his resentment and despair. His only light and hope for redemption was found in Sofia. While she was taken and she found it hard to love a man like him, she accepted everything about him. Even the darkest parts. And the monsters he battled inside due to his past. I never wanted to put this book down. The actualization of the storyline was masterfully done.
Dishonorable is an intense read. There’s greed, betrayal, lies. It’s a vivid telling of when darkness challenges light in the face of redemption. There are so many twists and turns in this story that you can never guess what is to happen next. Their past, present and future are tied to each other and their families in so many ways. As the storyline unfolds you are absolutely blown away with how each detail adds to the intricate plot. It’s a powerful love story, yet it will make you question everything about love and all it can go against. It reminds you that love always threatens darkness even when it seems impossible. Sofia and Raphael’s love story is a tumultuous one. With so many ups and downs. But their journey is worth it. It may not be a story that fits every couple, but it’s theirs. If you are a fan of dark romance, be sure to read Natasha Knight. This was certainly an unforgettable read.
Devil You Know by L.A. Fiore, Stacy's review, #ReleaseBlitz #Giveaway #Teasers #Excerpt @lafioreauthor @givemebooksblog
I knew this book was going to rip me apart when I was already in tears before the prologue was even over. Just wow. This isn't just a second chance romance, this is an epic love story that takes you through 14 years of two people that were meant to be, but never quite got it right. These two go through some pretty crazy circumstances both together and apart, and it is truly a heady journey you go on while reading their story.
Damien Tate had a rough life, with both parents abandoning him, one physically the other emotionally and all he wanted to do was escape the evil that was his mother and let me tell you she is absolutely horrific. So, when Damien found Thea Ahern, the twin sister of his best friend, he finally found some peace in knowing that not all women were bad. Just seventeen years old when they first met, they had a first love romance that could never be forgotten, but once they turned 18 they knew they had a decision to make.
Thea was off to college at NYU and Damien enlisted in the Army for a long time, longer than expected considering he went into special forces. And when he finally came home for good, so many years later he was a different man shrouded in mystery and a broody temperament that Thea took on as a challenge. He was her theoretical onion that needed peeling.
This book goes way deeper than your typical love story. Thea's family is the heart and soul of this book, and Damien is and always has been a part of the Ahern family, so when the twists and turns come into play it really gives you a broader idea of what is going on. The character development is great, even with the side characters like Anton (Oh how I love Anton!!) and Thea's brother Cam. I really fell in love with those guys as the book progressed. The same goes for Kimber and Ryder, Thea's best friends. But things aren't always as they seem and when truths are revealed I was filled with all kinds of emotions. The angst was oh so present, because even though it wasn't glaringly obvious, the undertone of something big was always just below the surface. It's what drove me to keep going, because I was like ahhhhh what is going onnnnn, when will I find outttttt?!? Yes, if that sounds like whining it is. Because I was.
I loved the weird dynamic to Thea and Damien's relationship, and it cracked me up that the silliest things like pizza toppings or Thea's mindless rambling could bring Damien back to Earth, or that a simple rare smile from Damien would make his despondent and abrasive temperament irrelevant in Thea's eyes. I was really pulling for these two because after all those years I was ready for them just to be happy already!
This is really a great story that takes you on an unexpected journey of love and deceit and SO many other things, the writing was great and the author did a wonderful job of keeping me my interest piqued the whole time, I'm really excited to read more by this author. Great, GREAT read.
Before I could scan the crowd for Damian, a hand wrapped around mine...one with cuts and blood on the knuckles. It was Damian and he looked pissed.
“What the fuck are you doing here?”
My heart hurt seeing his face—a cut near his left eye, blood smeared down his cheek and a blooming bruise on his jaw. “I heard you and Cam talking. I was curious.”
He had been walking me toward the exit but those words stopped him. His feet sort of rooted themselves to the concrete floor as his head turned in my direction. “So you walked here alone?”
“It wasn’t far.”
That wasn’t the right answer apparently because he hissed between his teeth. It wasn’t an actual word, just a release of frustration.
He started toward the exit again. “What are you fighting when you are out there?”
We had just reached the stairs when he pulled me behind them and pressed me up against the wall. “Come again?”
“When you fight, what are you fighting?”
“Not who am I fighting?”
“No, your opponent isn’t what you’re fighting.”
He leaned in and lowered his head to look me right in the eyes. “How do you know that?”
I gently wiped the blood from his face. “I know you.”
He had the strangest reaction to that. He closed his eyes, like he was in pain, and lowered his forehead to my shoulder. “This can’t happen.”
Those words caused a chill to move right down my spine. He was wrong. It totally could and should happen. “Why not?”
He lifted his head and for the first time I saw so much more in those eyes. “Cam is a good friend and your parents are like my own.”
His lips brushed along my jaw and I had to lock my knees to keep from sliding down the wall. “And if I did to you all the things I wanted, I couldn’t sit at their table without them knowing that I claimed every part of you.”

Title: Something in the Way
It was a hot summer day when I met him on the construction site next to my parents’ house. Under the sweat and dirt, Manning Sutter was as handsome as the sun was bright. He was older, darker, experienced. I wore a smiley-face t-shirt and had never even been kissed. Yet we saw something in each other that would link us in ways that couldn’t be broken...no matter how hard we tried.
I loved Manning before I knew the meaning of the word. I was too young, he said. I would wait. Through all the carefully-chosen words hiding what we knew to be true, through his struggle to keep me innocent, and through infinitely-starry nights—I would wait. But I’d learn that life isn’t always fair. That no matter how much you achieve, none of it matters if you suffer the heartbreak that comes with falling for someone you can never have. Because even though I saw Manning first, that didn’t matter. My older sister saw him next.
Set in the 90's I was the exact same age as Lake, so I totally connected with all of the 90's references and loved reliving those things through Lakes eyes.
She's a 16-year-old girl who's super smart with an extremely strict father who has her future planned out for her. This book is Southern California based and there's even mention of USC. I swear this book was written for me.
Lake meets a handsome construction worker on her way home from school and he's quite a bit older, 7 years to be exact. His name is Manning and Lake feels immediately attached to him in some sort of way, but she can't place those feelings just yet. This has forbidden written all over it! And those weird feelings you get when reading a forbidden romance, the ones that threaten your morality but you don't care? Yep, those feelings were present the whole time, and I loved how the author navigated those tricky waters because that can't be easy. And as a reader I can see how other readers might feel, and I think the author was very smart with her writing, especially with the events that occurred at the end which I won't divulge for obvious reasons.
I was completely sucked in to this story. Not only was I waiting for something to happen, I assumed it would be predictable and there would be a time jump in order to eradicate the forbidden aspect, and I was so pleased that this didn't happen! There's nothing worse than predictability in a storyline, and I truly loved how innocent this felt, while at the same time feeling taboo and naughty.
You really get a STORY, and it's kind of beautiful. I love that I was able to really get to know these characters and their back stories. Manning is such a good guy, laced with subtle mystery and his attachment to Lake and her older sister is so peculiar, while being completely normal at the same time. Lake’s older sister, Tiffany isn’t my favorite character but I appreciate her significance to the story and she kind of grew on me towards the end. The more time that passes since I finished this book, the more I love it. Like I really, REALLY love it. I can’t wait for May because I need book 2 like right now! This was a great read, and if you can be open minded and get over the cliffhanger I know people will love this book, and I can tell that this will be a great series already!

I am a huge fan of this series. I can’t even tell you just how long I’ve been waiting for this book and it was well worth every minute! This book can absolutely be read as a standalone. I think if this is your first foray into the Bama Boys world, this book without a doubt will make you want to pick up the rest of the series.
“I didn’t know there was different, and when you don’t have different to compare to, you don’t question what you have. You don’t know better until you’re with better.”
CJ Tully and Riley Tennyson hit it off immediately at Riley’s brothers wedding. Riley is newly single and knows there’s no broken heart that tequila can’t fix. Through innocent flirting and laughs about everything from coconuts and secrets, neither can resist the attraction. So their weekend of hooking up is unlike anything either one has experienced. CJ is hooked. And Riley simply can’t get enough. It turns out that there was some sort of misunderstanding between Riley and her ex. Or so she thought. She closes herself off to CJ. It was just a mistake. Right? Because how can something that feels so good ever belong to her?
“And if possible to look inside another person’s soul, I swear CJ doesn’t just peer at mine. He stares and studies it like I mean something to him. Like this is important.”
The connection between CJ and Riley is palpable. Their desire exhilarating. Their connection undeniable. But Riley thinks it was a slip up and it can't happen again. She breaks whatever they had going on and just wants to be friends. CJ is unhappy, but willing to take whatever he can as long as it means he gets to be near her. One night he does the unthinkable that will forever be ingrained in Riley’s mind. It’s that one night that changes everything and the trajectory of their lives. But how long can they keep this up? Were they ever truly friends? The author is meticulous in crafting a story that you simply will not be able to put down. Your heart will pound over the magnetic pull between these two.
“Do you have any idea how good you look being mine?”
CJ Tully. I love you and and your alpha ways but most importantly, your heart. He loved without words. Loudly and completely. His love knew no boundaries. He only saw Riley. I keep thinking the author can never top the last guy she writes and she continues to prove me wrong. J. Daniels is a true master at character development. She has this innate ability to make sure that every single characters leaves an imprint on her readers. You want to be their best friend. You root for them. Feel their joys and pain. Highs and lows. I fell for CJ the first time he said, Darlin’ and I claimed him mine as soon as I realized how deeply he could love.
“Tell me a secret.”
“I’m falling so fast for you.”
I was completely consumed by the Tully Charm. CJ where have you been all my life? Seriously, J, you outdid yourself with this one! What I Need was the perfect balance of fun, sexy, and romance. It was the book you want to read over and over because you can’t get enough. It’s the book you tell all your friends to read because you want them to know these characters. What I Need was like coming home.
She would rather bake than cook, she listens to music entirely too loud, and loves writing stories her children will never read. Her husband and children are her greatest loves, with cupcakes coming in at a close second.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
As a young girl, Josselyn Winters was saved from harm by a quiet boy in her third grade class. Christopher. That moment will forever haunt her even years later when she meets Wesley Stoke in high school. He seems familiar. Like she’s met him. Knows him. But this guy is different than the young boy that saved her. He can’t be that same quiet boy that rescued her so many years ago, can he? When she brings it up, Wes denies being that person. Telling her there is no truth in that theory. Over time, there is this tethered connection between Joss and Wes. She doesn’t make the best choices. She makes brash decisions where she is careless. But through it all, Wes is there. He saves her in so many ways. As their story unravels things are revealed but there is still so much to know. This is an earthshattering read allows you to get completely wrapped up. There is no time or circumstance. There is just this book.
Wes and Joss? They are reckless. Intoxicating. Madness. Exhilarating. You become absolutely consumed by their story. Joss is a stubborn heroine full of spunk and defiance. You shouldn’t root for her because of her carelessness, but you can’t help it. You are drawn to her in ways you can’t explain. So you cheer her on despite your reservations. Because deep within her, she is the girl with a fire inside that we all want to be. Wes is special. You can’t quite put your finger on him, but you want nothing more to know about him. His story is deep. He doesn’t tell it, but you can feel the depth of his past beneath him. He’s quiet, yet his love and admiration for Joss is loud. His feelings are tangible. Unmistakable. Their love is chaos and beauty. Until there is heartbreak. In the most unimaginable way.
The writing is phenomenal! This author? She takes risks. Takes chances. She pushes and pulls you as a reader to truly feel what they characters are going through. Their joy, their pain. Their highs and their lows. The author masterfully executes a complex yet unique storyline that will have you guessing from chapter to chapter. Her talent in weaving a riveting story with compelling characters is simply unparalleled. Your heart pounds as you turn each page. There is a sort of suspense as you have no idea what to expect. This book is remarkable and brilliant in both its manifestation of the characters and execution of the storyline. A Boy Like You is a thought provoking and unforgettable read. A true masterpiece. This story is one you’ve never read before. Throw away your expectations as this is a deep rooted story that surpasses anything you’ve ever read. I am so excited beyond words for what is to come with the next installment.

Title: The Butterfly Project
Author: Emma Scott
Release Date: Tuesday, February 28, 2017
Tagline: "Where you are is home..."
Beckett Copeland spent two years in prison for armed robbery, and is now struggling to keep his head above water. A bike messenger by day, he speeds around New York City, riding fast and hard but going nowhere, his criminal record holding him back almost as much as the guilt of his crime.
Zelda and Beckett form a grudging alliance of survival, and in between their stubborn clash of wills, they slowly begin to provide each other with the warmth of forgiveness, healing, and maybe even love. But when Zelda and Beckett come face to face with their pasts, they must choose to hold on to the guilt and regret that bind them, or let go and open their hearts for a shot at happiness.
The Butterfly Project is a novel that reveals the power of forgiveness, and how even the smallest decisions of the heart can—like the flutter of a butterfly’s wings—create currents that strengthen into gale winds, altering the course of a life forever.

“She was something I never saw coming.”
Zelda Rossi leaves Vegas determined to make it in New York City. After a series of unfortunate circumstances, she is about to give up. Until she encounters Beckett Copeland. His heart seems hardened. A heart like hers. One she knows too well. She sees a second chance by becoming his roommate and working towards the reason why she came to NYC to begin with, to vindicate the heavy guilt, she has carried for so many years. Beckett knows more than anyone that there are consequences to actions. But he needs the help with the rent. And that’s why he accepted her roommate proposal. Right? He knows he has nothing to offer Zelda. And he plans to keep it that way.
“I looked at this beautiful, smart, woman sitting beside me, I didn’t deserve a shot at happiness, but she did.”
I am vague on the details as I cannot fathom telling you their story. It sounds better coming from them. And the author writes it as if it were their hearts narrating from beginning to end. Zelda and Beckett form a connection immediately as both recognize something in each other that cannot be put into words. Because the burden they carry is a weight that is felt, not spoken of. The storyline is a unique one. The author’s talent in executing a timeless and incomparable storyline does not go unnoticed as she gifts the literary world with Zelda and Beckett. These two? They are treasures. Simply all the good in this world. I could tell you why, but the author’s words speak to this.
“She’s woven herself into my life, so tightly that if I cut those threads, I’ll unravel. The warmth will seep out, the light will dim until I’m nothing but dark.”
This book is simply every love song. The masterfully executed storyline captured the highs and lows of finding love with a hardened heart. Of learning to not only give love, but most importantly accepting the love you deserve. The words are palpable and unrelenting as the author pushes you to know and understand that love endures the most through the darkest moments. Zelda and Beckett’s past although different, both carry an unfathomable grievance. Heavy. Painful. Neither willing to see a path to forgiveness. Until finding each other. Their humility a testament to second chances and not allowing choices to define you forever. Transcending and monumental, Zelda and Beckett’s love story is boundless. Infinite. Ever lasting. Their love exhilarating. Selfless. Boundless.
“And I realized you could get used to anything- even being alone for years – right until the moment you touched something better than what you had.”
With every single book I am absolutely blown away by the sheer magnitude of talent this author holds. She never writes the same story and with each one, the love always resounds. Her words in this story are stimulating, her prose eloquent and awakening. As I type this review I am completely in my feelings. And not because this was a sad read. But because the story resonated on a level so deep with me that I can hardly put into words. As much as the main characters made the story, there was a side character that I fell completely connected with. Darlene. Her role small, but her impact immeasurable. To the author... this character made some unfortunate choices, yet you treated her with grace, dignity, and respect. She is someone’s daughter, niece, aunt, lover. She was not her choices. Thank you for remembering this. Thank you for making the readers see this. That regardless of what she did, she is a person first. And worthy of love and life. Personally, this was deeply touching to me. That small gesture means more to me that you will ever know.
“I’m falling in love with Zelda Rossi and my imperfect heart wants to think she’s falling for me too.”
What a privilege it is to read this author’s work. I truly believe everyone who reads this book will come away from it looking at life differently. It is the type book that speaks to your heart, but most importantly your soul. Most of all, this book is to and for the lonely, the forgotten. To the people who are casted aside because of your past. You are loved. Worthy to be loved and to love others. This book reminds us that you are not invisible for you exist. And your existence is instrumental to this world. This books reminds us to listen for your voice as you should never go unheard. Because the author? She makes us listen. I hear you. We hear you. Loudly. Clearly. You are not your mistakes. You are so much more than your regrets and deepest flaws. You should never carry the burden alone. And most importantly, you matter. Always.
“I’d go to the end of the earth for her.”
The Butterfly Project is a brilliant and riveting read. The profoundly moving storyline left me breathless. The author’s talent knows no boundaries as she manifests a poignant and inspiring account of the greatest love story you will ever read. One that testifies to her unmatched talent. Unforgettable and bewitching, I’m claiming this as my top read of 2017.
“Why do you stay if it’s so hard to live here?” I asked.
Beckett took a drag from his cigarette, as if he were buying time before answering.
“Brooklyn, born and raised,” he said finally, still not looking at me. “Where else would I go anyway? Different city, same struggle.” He finally brought his gaze to mine. “So you’re getting out?”
“On the bus, tomorrow,” I said. “I can’t stay. I was here for a job interview—sort of—and it fell through.”
“What was the job?”
“You’ll think it’s stupid.”
“Yeah, I probably will.” His smile was dry.
I laughed a little. “Smartass. I draw graphic novels.”
He stared at me blankly.
“Long-form comic books that tell one continuous story,” I said. “Like The Walking Dead?”
“Exactly. I have one mocked up and I came here to pitch it to a few publishers. They all rejected me. Well, one half-rejected me, but it doesn’t matter. I can’t stay in the city long enough to make any changes, and I wouldn’t know what changes to make if I could.”
Beckett studied the cigarette between his fingers. “Why can’t you stay?”
“Where do I start?” I ground out my cigarette under my boot heel. “My poor planning? My dwindling funds? The fact I was robbed today? Or that I was naively hopeful the publishers would adore my work and sign me on the spot? Take your pick.”
Beckett shook his head, his mouth turned down in his grimace. “Wait, go back. You were robbed?”
I nodded and waved away the last of the smoke, wishing my failure could be as easily dissipated. “I came here like a wide-eyed twit with a dream, and I crashed and burned.”
“You tried. That’s more than most people do.” “Tried and failed.”
“So try again.”
“I wish,” I said, letting my gaze roam over the dingy back alley. “I feel like I’m so close to breaking through. That last publisher gave me some hope. If I could pull a few weeks out of my ass, I’d have a chance. But it’s impossible. I have to go back to Nevada.”
“You don’t have friends or family nearby?”
Yes, and only two hours by train.
“No,” I said, and decided I’d said enough to a total stranger. The last thing I needed was the terrible homesickness to well up again. I stood and brushed off the ass of my pants. “Anyway, it is what it is. Thanks for the smoke.”
“Were you hurt?”
I turned, glanced down at Beckett. “What?”
“You said you were robbed,” he said, his voice low, his eyes holding mine as if he were forcing himself to hear this. “Did they hurt you?”
“No, I... No. I wasn’t there. It was a break-in.”
He leaned against the wall and his sigh plumed out in front of him in the cold air. It sounded relieved. “I’m sorry, Zelda.”
I frowned. “Not your fault. Like I said, the city kicked my ass. The sooner I get the hell out of here, the better for
Beckett ground out his smoke and got to his feet. He was at least six-two, yet it didn’t feel imposing to stand in his shadow. It felt...
Safe. I feel safe with him.
“Do you know how to get back to wherever you’re staying?” he asked.
“The same way I got here, only in reverse,” I said, covering my unsettling thoughts with sarcasm.
Because that was safe for me.
Where to find Emma:
You are cordially invited to the wedding of the decade.
Adam Drake and Emilia Kimberly Strong have chosen a date to solidify their love in the bonds of matrimony.
Join them on their exotic destination wedding. Visit with their friends and loved ones. But hold the champagne toast. Fate has a few last tests for our couple on their way to the altar.
Natural 20 or natural disaster?
As a huge fan of this series, I can honestly say that I was so happy to learn that us readers would finally get this book! Adam and Mia have been through so much, and once again life has some bumps in the road for them. Despite each obstacle, overcoming each one testifies to the power of their love and all it can endure. I don’t want to go too much into the plot, but just know that the author has her reasons for writing this story. Just when you think we know and understand all there is to know about Adam and Mia’s relationship, you are proven wrong. The depth of their love can be felt within every word of this book.
Written in both POVs, the author once again displays her talent in writing a witty and romantic continuation of this series. Her writing is what simply draws me into these books as she is always above doing the norm. She has her own recipe for executing brilliant and compelling storylines and this was no different. As Mia and Adam face a new set of challenges and move forward in becoming husband and wife, their love and admiration for each other is the one thing that remains constant.
Worth Any Cost was a heartwarming and fun way to end Adam and Mia’s story. Although I believe they may be in the background of any additional stories to come for this series, the end to their own story is bittersweet. This journey has been emotional, joyous, and one of the best experiences of my literary life. I am so glad the author decided to give us a chance to see how Adam and Mia have grown as people, but as a couple as well. To know their love is truly a privilege. This book reminded me of all the reasons why the entire series continue to be a favorite of mine. The author brilliantly balances humor with emotion with romance and sexy. I am absolutely excited on what’s to come in the next!
"Hey. Where are all the towels?"
I didn't answer, just laughed some more and smothered my giggles.
The slap of his wet feet on the bare floor sounded as he crossed the bathroom toward the door. He poked his dripping head out of the doorway. "What did you do?" His dark eyebrow arched, hair soaked and plastered to his forehead. A puddle quickly formed around his feet.
I held up one of the tiny washcloths. "You want this, don't you? The hate is swelling in you now."
His mouth quirked. "Something's swelling, but it isn't hate." He pushed the hair away from his forehead and cleared the water that had dripped into his eyes. "Somehow I thought getting away with that was too easy."
I smirked. "You should know me better by now. As for drying off…you could always use your dirty underpants."
"Underpants? What am I, five?" He clenched his jaw and then grinned. "Don't underestimate the power of the dark side, young Jedi."
I rolled my eyes. "So you're going to try to one-up me? So predictable. I'm shaking in my boots."
His dark eyes gleamed as he came closer. Rivulets of water had collected on his tasty abs. It was fascinating to behold.
"And you should know me better, too." He grinned evilly. "I don't one-up. I one-hundred-up." Then he shook his head inches from my face. Droplets of water sprayed everywhere. I let out a screech and pulled back. "You are looking too dry over there, little girl. Let me help you with that."
And he promptly pinned me, dripping wet, to the bed and started rubbing his drenched face in mine. “You’re gonna soak the bed!" I screeched.
"Collateral damage," he replied. He reached down and pulled the belt on my robe, opening it. Then he shifted, sandwiching me between his wet body and the bed.
I squirmed and wiggled, and he only seemed to like it more. He shook his head again. My hand smacked his hard chest. "You're such a boy."
He grinned. "I'm all boy," he said, pressing his erection against me.
"I won’t take this lying down," I muttered.

From New York Times bestseller Katy Regnery comes a new twist on a beloved fairytale.
In this modern retelling of The Little Mermaid, a fisherman's daughter from an Outer Banks island untouched by time, meets the son of the North Carolina governor at a fancy party she helps to cater.
Laire, who wants more from life than her little island can offer, is swept away by wealthy, sophisticated Erik, who is, in turn, entranced by her naiveté and charm. The two spend a whirlwind summer together that ends on the knife-point of heartbreak and forces them to go their separate ways.
Years later, when fate finds them together once again, they will discover the terrifying depth of the secrets they kept from each other, and learn that shattered hearts can only be healed by a love that willfully refuses to die.
All novels Katy Regnery’s ~a modern fairytale~ collection are written as fundraisers. 10% of the e-book sales for in March and April 2017 will be donated.
As a daughter of a fisherman, Laire has always wanted more to life than what she currently has living in a small town in the outer banks away from the city. She is supposed to find a nice boy in town and get married and have children. Like all the women do. That is not enough for Laire as she has dreams and aspirations that surpass this small town. During an encounter in the city, her eyes lock with Erik Rexford, the governor’s son. He quickly becomes enamored with her and asks her on a date. This is forbidden in both their worlds, but they can’t quite help the pull that exists between them. They begin to meet in secret. Both knowing that if caught, the consequences are dismal. But this is just for the summer right? Will they be able to let go once it’s time to say goodbye?
“He made a wish that he’d never, ever live another day of his life without her. He made a wish that she would, somehow, someway, be his forever.”
THIS. BOOK. THIS is why we read romance. My heart pounded with every encounter. Forbidden but everything about them was simply magic. The connection between Laire and Erik is deeply rooted and profound. It is magnetic. What was supposed to be a summer whirlwind romance became so much more. Their love became a testament to love not being a slave to time or circumstance. They irrevocably fell in love without warning. It was as natural as breathing. Their love is fierce. Powerful. Overwhelming. There love is simply why heart beats exist. The intensity is high with this one. The emotions are off the charts. You easily become part of this enthralling story as you turn each page.
“Laire. I’m falling in love with you.”
As the story unravels, circumstances force them apart and you feel their heartbreak. But their love? It’s unwavering and unyielding. Even in the face of darkness and separation, their love remained. Without going through the plot, just know that this is no ordinary fairytale. Once again, the author places her own spin on a classic and makes it all her own with such grace that could only be accomplished by her unparalleled ability to execute a timeless romance. The story respectfully and tactfully addresses the issues of socioeconomic status and classism. The author approaches these relevant topics with such class and dignity. It’s a reminder that despite where we come from and who we are, we are all love the same.
“Baby, I’d do anything for you. Don’t you know that by now?”
The author’s talent resides in her ability to allow readers to feel emotions with just her words alone. Her alluring and poetic prose captures you the moment you first start reading this book. She beautifully captures the essence of falling in love and how love plays a role in the responsiveness of a broken spirit in how it bounces back. How love can change you and your beliefs about those who are different than you. Give you courage to really be the person you were meant to become. Despite their differences, they made their own rules in love and that was all that mattered.
“I didn’t just love you as a kid or as a summer fling or as anything that was temporary. Don’t you see? I loved you as a man, in every season, forever.”
Don’t Speak is a brilliant and riveting modern retelling of a classic fairytale. At times you will be left breathless by the sheer magnitude of love and all it endures in this story. The author’s talent knows no boundaries as she manifests such a poignant and inspiring reprise but makes it all her own with words and emotions that truly testifies to her unmatched talent. I didn’t love this story because I lived it. Unforgettable and bewitching, this story easily made it into my top reads of 2017.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katy Regnery started her writing career by enrolling in a short story class in January 2012. One year later, she signed her first contract and Katy’s first novel was published in September 2013.
Twenty-five books later, Katy claims authorship of the multi-titled, New York Times and USA Today Blueberry Lane Series, which follows the English, Winslow, Rousseau, Story, and Ambler families of Philadelphia; the six-book, bestselling ~a modern fairytale~ series; and several other standalone novels and novellas.
Katy’s first modern fairytale romance, The Vixen and the Vet, was nominated for a RITA® in 2015 and won the 2015 Kindle Book Award for romance. Katy’s boxed set, The English Brothers Boxed Set, Books #1–4, hit the USA Today bestseller list in 2015, and her Christmas story, Marrying Mr. English, appeared on the list a week later. In May 2016, Katy’s Blueberry Lane collection, The Winslow Brothers Boxed Set, Books #1-4, became a New York Times E-book bestseller.
In 2016, Katy signed a print-only agreement with Spencerhill Press. As a result, her Blueberry Lane paperback books will now be distributed to brick and mortar bookstores all over the United States.
Katy lives in the relative wilds of northern Fairfield County, Connecticut, where her writing room looks out at the woods, and her husband, two young children, two dogs, and one Blue Tonkinese kitten create just enough cheerful chaos to remind her that the very best love stories begin at home.

I had the happily ever after . . . until it was gone.
Three became two. And I was alone.
Our time—my time—was over. Alone was the right way to be. The only way. Life was me, my son, and my memories. Until the day I met someone who turned my lonely existence upside down.
This man made me smile, made me laugh, made me ache for his touch.
But I couldn’t.
He shouldn’t awaken feelings I resolved to bury with my husband. But he did.
I couldn’t let his presence make my heart race. I couldn’t let him into our little world, where he fit so perfectly. I couldn’t want Nick.
But I did.
I rescued people. My family relied on me to lend a hand. Everyone thought of me as the fixer, but no one had the first clue how to fix me. Until Ellie.
The freckled beauty’s sorrow was like a well-worn shirt—easy and familiar, difficult to part with—and she wore it comfortably. And though I was hers from the moment our eyes first met, she’d never be mine. I loved her in the here and now, but how did I compete with a ghost?
How can there ever be anyone After You?
Ellie Taylor knows loss. With only the strength given to her by her son Jack, she is determined to live. But to love again? That is out of the question. Until she meets Nick Garcia. Drop dead gorgeous. And a fire fighter! As she spends time around him, he becomes a spark of light in her dark. He makes her heart feel a little bit lighter. But what if it is still too soon? Nick is known to be there for everyone but himself. This is what he does. People love. And Nick loves harder. But what if he can’t fix this? He’s been down a similar road before and has been burned. Can he put his heart through this again? With Ellie, the answer is always yes.
“Are we doing this? You and me. No running away. I kiss you, I touch you. And you stay.”
I refuse to discuss the plot further as this is the type of book you get lost in. The author doesn’t tell you Nick and Ellie’s story. Their voices are what narrate the story. The exquisite prose and depths of emotions allows the reader into the hearts of the characters. You feel their pain and inner turmoil. Most importantly, you know their joy. And the longing that exists between Nick and Ellie. Nick. Your love for Ellie is unequivocal. Your love slays monsters. Your love persevered and endured doubt and darkness. You chose to love someone before you even knew if their heart was yours to have. Your love is strength and beauty. I don’t think I’ve ever felt a hero love so deeply, and with such intensity that you feel your heart flutter with every declaration of love that leaves his mouth. To be loved by him is to be adored. And for Ellie to love him? To choose him? That is the greatest honor of his life.
“You’re my favorite kind of trouble. And you’re worth every single bit of it.”
Whether you know Ellie’s story or this is your first Stephanie Rose book, you must know that Ellie’s heart has been through the greatest loss a person can ever go through. Her story demanded a sensitivity that only this author could truly deliver. The author executed this story with such grace and beauty. Losing the person you love more than anything in this world, changes the trajectory of your life. And with Ellie the author allowed us to see her anguish and her pain. But most importantly that part of her heart that wanted to believe in love. With Nick. She’s never wanted to risk her life before. But his love? It was worth all the risk in this world.
“You’re the love of my life, Ella-Jane.”
The writing was simply flawless and brilliant in it’s delivery. The emotions are palpable and a true testament to the talent of the author in her ability to give the reader a genuine and authentic take on love after loss. There is a push and pull between Nick and Ellie. Their story is not perfect, but what good love story is? They are up against so much. If you are a lover of a second chance romance, I implore you to pick this one up. You’ve never read this one before. Never felt this before. The sheer beauty of this story lies within the heart of the characters and all they overcame to find love. After You was a heartfelt and emotionally charged story that will stay with me for a long time to come.
“Perfectly good seat right here.” Nick patted the chair next to him. All the theaters had been renovated with leather recliners. Usually, since my son dragged me to the latest kid movie, it was a real fight to keep my eyes open and not drift off mid-movie. I was sure sitting next to Nick for the next couple of hours would keep me wide awake.
“I can’t wait to see Optimus Prime!” Jack exclaimed through a mouth full of popcorn.
“Me, too! He was my favorite when I was your age.” Nick took a handful from the bucket resting on Jack’s lap.
“And I used to drive a car like Bumble Bee.”
“You did?” I squinted at Nick as I took a slurp of diet soda.
“A yellow Camaro.” Nick’s mouth tipped in a sexy smirk as he pushed his seat back.
I bit my lip to hold in a laugh as the lights dimmed.
“You can wipe that smug look off your face. Chicks loved that car.” Nick whispered in my ear. The hot tickle of his breath against my cheek made goose bumps spread down my neck to my shoulder.
“Did you drive around blasting Metallica in your banana-colored Camaro?” I giggled back. “At least they saw you coming.”
He laughed as the opening credits started to roll. “Women loved my banana.”
I sputtered a cough as I choked on a piece of popcorn. Nick shrugged with a sly grin as he settled into the seat.
I leaned my elbow on the armrest between us, and it grazed Nick’s forearm. I jumped at the contact and jerked my hand into my lap, where it was safe. I was catapulted back to my teenage years when the slightest contact with a boy I liked sent shivers up my spine.
Nick wasn't a boy, though. He was a man—a gorgeous man with unforgettable lips that knew how to kiss a woman stupid. I wanted to touch more than just his elbow. Keeping a level head around him was damn near impossible with adolescent hormones ravaging through my thirty-something body.
Nick laughed at my hands, now frozen on my thigh.
I focused on the screen until Nick pulled my hand back on the armrest.
“We can share, Ella-Jane.” He smirked as he slid his hand against mine and laced our fingers together.
My palms were damp as he brought our joined hands to his lips. He pressed a long, wet kiss to the inside of my wrist.
The bristles of his beard scratched against my skin as goose bumps drifted down my arm. I felt the warmth of his mouth all the way to my toes. My body was enjoying the simple but intimate attention too much at that moment to move my hand.
Something felt wrong holding Nick’s hand around Jack. When I glanced at my son, he was munching on popcorn and oblivious to anything but the robots on the screen. I smiled at Nick, but he didn’t smile back. Illuminated by the soft flicker from the movie, the heat and yearning in his eyes burned brightly. My breathing quickened as his finger blazed a light caress back and forth over the top of my hand.
For five years, I never so much as glanced in another man’s direction. Now, Nick simply holding my hand melted me into a puddle. It was pathetic but spoke the volumes I couldn’t admit out loud.

Some wipe out color altogether.

“I’m still fighting.”
Instead I just watched him leave.
Now my husband, my everything is battling for each breath, and all I can do is stare at the machines as the clock ticks off precious minutes.
The doctors said the first twenty-four hours are critical—but every moment is critical.
You never know which will be your last.
This is our story, and I’m not ready for it to end.

It’s strange the things you think of to distract yourself from the real reason you’re sitting here. Me, I focus on the oil painting on the wall. Wonder how many people have stared at it and wanted to tear it down. How many liked it. Has anyone noticed that it leans a little to the left or that there’s an inconsistency in the corners of the wooden frame? Did anyone deliberate why this painting?
I’m sure it’s meant to calm the people who look at it. Doesn’t everyone find a lake dotted with sailboats calming? But the colors are all wrong. They don’t soothe me. They’re bright and bold and demanding. There’s too much crimson, too dark of navy.
I have to turn away from it. There’re magazines on the tables, but they scream at me too. Loud headlines of celebrities with large divorce settlements, jail time, and plastic surgery. The science ones boast of the newest medical advances and archeological finds. What they don’t realize is that in here, life beyond these walls no longer exists. In here, there’re only three things that matter: life, death, and the battle between them.
I shiver again. I should have brought warmer clothes.
Hugging my knees to my chest, I focus on the fake plant in the corner. There are no windows in this area, which is how I know it’s fake. It might be a fern of some sort, I don’t know. The leaves are long and skinny, but again, the color is wrong for this place.
I shift my attention to the hallway. In here, the lights are dim, but out there they’re on full and reflecting off of the cream floor. There’s a nurse at the nurses’ station, sitting behind a computer. She’s different from the one before. A moment later, another walks up to the desk. They keep hushed voices, and I hear nothing. The one at the computer lifts her eyes to me and when she meets my gaze, she offers a sympathetic smile. I don’t smile back.
I lower my head until my cheek rests on my arms, and I close my eyes. My skin is ice against my face. Cold is what it means to be alone, and right now, I’ve never felt more alone. Alone, but not lonely. No, because being lonely is different than being alone. Lonely is a fleeting state that ends. When Finley gets here, I’ll no longer be lonely, yet without Mav, I’ll still be alone.
I think about the happy moments Mav and I shared. Our time in Cancun. The dance under the stars. His smile. His silly pet name for me.
That was us. The whole, take-on-the-world, in-love us.
The us before we broke.
As the synopsis indicates, moments are everything in this book. The moment Alieya and Maverick meet, there is this pull between them. A spark that ignites something deep within them both. They meet on vacation. In the most unconventional way. They spend their last days together until neither one wants to say goodbye. They refuse to end this and decide to see where this will go.
Fast forward and they are building their lives together. While falling in love was easy, life has thrown obstacles in their way determined to keep them apart. One night changes everything. Hurtful and spiteful words are now full with regret. Could it be their last words? Maverick is fighting for his life. These moments are now critical. I know I am vague with the synopsis. But this is a journey. One that you are to experience through the eyes and hearts of the characters. This is their heartbreaking yet inspiring story.
The writing is honest and raw. The author gives us a true and open account of the greatest love in its most hopeful moments. And its dark and lost days. We get the ups and the downs. She never holds back. The author effortlessly allows Alieya to narrate their story from beginning to end. How they met, when they loved, and ultimately how they fell. She paints their story in vivid colors. So you feel their highs. And you feel their lows when darkness takes over.
The Story Of Us is a deep and heartfelt story about never losing sight of what’s important. Never taking love and all it has to offer, the good and the bad for granted. Alieya and Maverick’s story is a testament to enduring love and all of its trials and hardship. That love is always worth it. Their story is intense and so worth every angsty moment. The author knows how to burrow her characters deep within your heart, and this story was no different. This was a poignant and thought provoking read. There were so many meaningful messages the author had for her readers. Love deeply. Love loudly. For love is brave. Worth every risk.
Three book besties who love to read and discuss books. We are addicted to all kinds of romance with Alpha Hero's, Kick-ass Heroine's and plenty of angst.
