This book started off very well for me. It was well written and the characters had great witty/quirky personalities (if you don't take into account what I'm about to say below...) I was interested in the dynamics of a romance between two bandmates. Would it work out or fall apart in complete disaster?
The story of Emmy and Travis is told solely from her POV. Basically the story went as so...They hook-up and she freaks out over how it's going to destroy their band. Repeat, repeat, repeat. After hitting the 40% point in the story and listening to Emmy excessively freak out and whine about what she's done, it got a little tired. I felt like she kept dragging Travis through the mud with her wishy washy emotions. I felt bad for the guy. He really should have forgotten about the whole thing and moved on, she was a bit much to handle. Emotionally high-maintenance, if you will.
I would have liked it if Travis had a POV, then maybe I would have gotten a justification as to why he held on for so long. Or at least some relief from Emmy's annoying freak-outs. There were also a few parts in the story where the scenes seemed to switch pretty damn fast. One minute they are talking on the phone, the next he's smirking at her in person. HUH? Maybe I just have a short attention span and was bored, but these incidences had me going back to re-reading some parts because I was totally confused by the quick turn-arounds.
I enjoyed all music scene dynamics of the story. Their traveling escapades, kidney stones, relationships with other bands, truckers and the trials and tribulations of trying to make it big.
Needless to say, I was overall a little frustrated with this book, and wished for more. I will might read the next book in the series (Sonia's story), but I'll be more likely to wait and see if Molly gets a story, she was more interesting to me than anyone else in this book.
Three book besties who love to read and discuss books. We are addicted to all kinds of romance with Alpha Hero's, Kick-ass Heroine's and plenty of angst.
