Devil You Know by L.A. Fiore, Stacy's review, #ReleaseBlitz #Giveaway #Teasers #Excerpt @lafioreauthor @givemebooksblog
I knew this book was going to rip me apart when I was already in tears before the prologue was even over. Just wow. This isn't just a second chance romance, this is an epic love story that takes you through 14 years of two people that were meant to be, but never quite got it right. These two go through some pretty crazy circumstances both together and apart, and it is truly a heady journey you go on while reading their story.
Damien Tate had a rough life, with both parents abandoning him, one physically the other emotionally and all he wanted to do was escape the evil that was his mother and let me tell you she is absolutely horrific. So, when Damien found Thea Ahern, the twin sister of his best friend, he finally found some peace in knowing that not all women were bad. Just seventeen years old when they first met, they had a first love romance that could never be forgotten, but once they turned 18 they knew they had a decision to make.
Thea was off to college at NYU and Damien enlisted in the Army for a long time, longer than expected considering he went into special forces. And when he finally came home for good, so many years later he was a different man shrouded in mystery and a broody temperament that Thea took on as a challenge. He was her theoretical onion that needed peeling.
This book goes way deeper than your typical love story. Thea's family is the heart and soul of this book, and Damien is and always has been a part of the Ahern family, so when the twists and turns come into play it really gives you a broader idea of what is going on. The character development is great, even with the side characters like Anton (Oh how I love Anton!!) and Thea's brother Cam. I really fell in love with those guys as the book progressed. The same goes for Kimber and Ryder, Thea's best friends. But things aren't always as they seem and when truths are revealed I was filled with all kinds of emotions. The angst was oh so present, because even though it wasn't glaringly obvious, the undertone of something big was always just below the surface. It's what drove me to keep going, because I was like ahhhhh what is going onnnnn, when will I find outttttt?!? Yes, if that sounds like whining it is. Because I was.
I loved the weird dynamic to Thea and Damien's relationship, and it cracked me up that the silliest things like pizza toppings or Thea's mindless rambling could bring Damien back to Earth, or that a simple rare smile from Damien would make his despondent and abrasive temperament irrelevant in Thea's eyes. I was really pulling for these two because after all those years I was ready for them just to be happy already!
This is really a great story that takes you on an unexpected journey of love and deceit and SO many other things, the writing was great and the author did a wonderful job of keeping me my interest piqued the whole time, I'm really excited to read more by this author. Great, GREAT read.
Before I could scan the crowd for Damian, a hand wrapped around mine...one with cuts and blood on the knuckles. It was Damian and he looked pissed.
“What the fuck are you doing here?”
My heart hurt seeing his face—a cut near his left eye, blood smeared down his cheek and a blooming bruise on his jaw. “I heard you and Cam talking. I was curious.”
He had been walking me toward the exit but those words stopped him. His feet sort of rooted themselves to the concrete floor as his head turned in my direction. “So you walked here alone?”
“It wasn’t far.”
That wasn’t the right answer apparently because he hissed between his teeth. It wasn’t an actual word, just a release of frustration.
He started toward the exit again. “What are you fighting when you are out there?”
We had just reached the stairs when he pulled me behind them and pressed me up against the wall. “Come again?”
“When you fight, what are you fighting?”
“Not who am I fighting?”
“No, your opponent isn’t what you’re fighting.”
He leaned in and lowered his head to look me right in the eyes. “How do you know that?”
I gently wiped the blood from his face. “I know you.”
He had the strangest reaction to that. He closed his eyes, like he was in pain, and lowered his forehead to my shoulder. “This can’t happen.”
Those words caused a chill to move right down my spine. He was wrong. It totally could and should happen. “Why not?”
He lifted his head and for the first time I saw so much more in those eyes. “Cam is a good friend and your parents are like my own.”
His lips brushed along my jaw and I had to lock my knees to keep from sliding down the wall. “And if I did to you all the things I wanted, I couldn’t sit at their table without them knowing that I claimed every part of you.”

Title: After You
Author: Stephanie Rose
Release Date: Feb 21, 2017
Add to TBR
After You is the final STANDALONE novel in the Second Chances series.
I had the happily ever after . . . until it was gone.
Three became two. And I was alone.
Our time—my time—was over. Alone was the right way to be. The only way. Life was me, my son, and my memories. Until the day I met someone who turned my lonely existence upside down.
This man made me smile, made me laugh, made me ache for his touch.
But I couldn’t.
He shouldn’t awaken feelings I resolved to bury with my husband. But he did.
I couldn’t let his presence make my heart race. I couldn’t let him into our little world, where he fit so perfectly. I couldn’t want Nick.
But I did.
I rescued people. My family relied on me to lend a hand. Everyone thought of me as the fixer, but no one had the first clue how to fix me. Until Ellie.
The freckled beauty’s sorrow was like a well-worn shirt—easy and familiar, difficult to part with—and she wore it comfortably. And though I was hers from the moment our eyes first met, she’d never be mine. I loved her in the here and now, but how did I compete with a ghost?
How can there ever be anyone After You?
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Ellie Taylor knows loss. With only the strength given to her by her son Jack, she is determined to live. But to love again? That is out of the question. Until she meets Nick Garcia. Drop dead gorgeous. And a fire fighter! As she spends time around him, he becomes a spark of light in her dark. He makes her heart feel a little bit lighter. But what if it is still too soon? Nick is known to be there for everyone but himself. This is what he does. People love. And Nick loves harder. But what if he can’t fix this? He’s been down a similar road before and has been burned. Can he put his heart through this again? With Ellie, the answer is always yes.
“Are we doing this? You and me. No running away. I kiss you, I touch you. And you stay.”
I refuse to discuss the plot further as this is the type of book you get lost in. The author doesn’t tell you Nick and Ellie’s story. Their voices are what narrate the story. The exquisite prose and depths of emotions allows the reader into the hearts of the characters. You feel their pain and inner turmoil. Most importantly, you know their joy. And the longing that exists between Nick and Ellie. Nick. Your love for Ellie is unequivocal. Your love slays monsters. Your love persevered and endured doubt and darkness. You chose to love someone before you even knew if their heart was yours to have. Your love is strength and beauty. I don’t think I’ve ever felt a hero love so deeply, and with such intensity that you feel your heart flutter with every declaration of love that leaves his mouth. To be loved by him is to be adored. And for Ellie to love him? To choose him? That is the greatest honor of his life.
“You’re my favorite kind of trouble. And you’re worth every single bit of it.”
Whether you know Ellie’s story or this is your first Stephanie Rose book, you must know that Ellie’s heart has been through the greatest loss a person can ever go through. Her story demanded a sensitivity that only this author could truly deliver. The author executed this story with such grace and beauty. Losing the person you love more than anything in this world, changes the trajectory of your life. And with Ellie the author allowed us to see her anguish and her pain. But most importantly that part of her heart that wanted to believe in love. With Nick. She’s never wanted to risk her life before. But his love? It was worth all the risk in this world.
“You’re the love of my life, Ella-Jane.”
The writing was simply flawless and brilliant in it’s delivery. The emotions are palpable and a true testament to the talent of the author in her ability to give the reader a genuine and authentic take on love after loss. There is a push and pull between Nick and Ellie. Their story is not perfect, but what good love story is? They are up against so much. If you are a lover of a second chance romance, I implore you to pick this one up. You’ve never read this one before. Never felt this before. The sheer beauty of this story lies within the heart of the characters and all they overcame to find love. After You was a heartfelt and emotionally charged story that will stay with me for a long time to come.
“Nick, let’s sit here.” Jack yanked Nick by the hand down the movie theater aisle and pulled him into a seat. Jack plopped down in a seat next to him adjacent to the wall. So much for my son wanting to sit anywhere near me tonight.
“Perfectly good seat right here.” Nick patted the chair next to him. All the theaters had been renovated with leather recliners. Usually, since my son dragged me to the latest kid movie, it was a real fight to keep my eyes open and not drift off mid-movie. I was sure sitting next to Nick for the next couple of hours would keep me wide awake.
“I can’t wait to see Optimus Prime!” Jack exclaimed through a mouth full of popcorn.
“Me, too! He was my favorite when I was your age.” Nick took a handful from the bucket resting on Jack’s lap.
“And I used to drive a car like Bumble Bee.”
“You did?” I squinted at Nick as I took a slurp of diet soda.
“A yellow Camaro.” Nick’s mouth tipped in a sexy smirk as he pushed his seat back.
I bit my lip to hold in a laugh as the lights dimmed.
“You can wipe that smug look off your face. Chicks loved that car.” Nick whispered in my ear. The hot tickle of his breath against my cheek made goose bumps spread down my neck to my shoulder.
“Did you drive around blasting Metallica in your banana-colored Camaro?” I giggled back. “At least they saw you coming.”
He laughed as the opening credits started to roll. “Women loved my banana.”
I sputtered a cough as I choked on a piece of popcorn. Nick shrugged with a sly grin as he settled into the seat.
I leaned my elbow on the armrest between us, and it grazed Nick’s forearm. I jumped at the contact and jerked my hand into my lap, where it was safe. I was catapulted back to my teenage years when the slightest contact with a boy I liked sent shivers up my spine.
Nick wasn't a boy, though. He was a man—a gorgeous man with unforgettable lips that knew how to kiss a woman stupid. I wanted to touch more than just his elbow. Keeping a level head around him was damn near impossible with adolescent hormones ravaging through my thirty-something body.
Nick laughed at my hands, now frozen on my thigh.
I focused on the screen until Nick pulled my hand back on the armrest.
“We can share, Ella-Jane.” He smirked as he slid his hand against mine and laced our fingers together.
My palms were damp as he brought our joined hands to his lips. He pressed a long, wet kiss to the inside of my wrist.
The bristles of his beard scratched against my skin as goose bumps drifted down my arm. I felt the warmth of his mouth all the way to my toes. My body was enjoying the simple but intimate attention too much at that moment to move my hand.
Something felt wrong holding Nick’s hand around Jack. When I glanced at my son, he was munching on popcorn and oblivious to anything but the robots on the screen. I smiled at Nick, but he didn’t smile back. Illuminated by the soft flicker from the movie, the heat and yearning in his eyes burned brightly. My breathing quickened as his finger blazed a light caress back and forth over the top of my hand.
For five years, I never so much as glanced in another man’s direction. Now, Nick simply holding my hand melted me into a puddle. It was pathetic but spoke the volumes I couldn’t admit out loud.

SynopsisMarlo … wild-eyed, untamed, and every single thing I’ve ever wanted from this life. I wasn’t ready for her back then. I was a stupid boy with adult feelings and no idea what to do with them. I squandered away every chance she gave me. Yes, love like ours either burns white hot or crumbles under the pressure. And now I’m back to sift through the rubble. Questions and excuses are two things I have in spades. What I need now are answers. Answers and Low. Always Low. My name is Ever Montgomery, and this is my story of love resurrected.
Ever Montgomery has made so many mistakes in the past. He’s used to running from them. But this time around, years later, Ever only wants to run toward the love he’s never forgotten, Marlo Rivers. The problem is that Marlo isn’t the same doe eyed young girl he knew back then. Her past has shaped Marlo into the woman she is today. Her heart belongs to no one but her. She is determined to never give someone the power to destroy it again. With Ever back in her life, it almost seems impossible. It’s as if her heart knows nothing else but to love Ever. But nothing is that simple. Loving Ever was dangerous. There are still secrets between them that may keep them apart. Especially when things start to unravel. `
“I won’t survive this time. Some lessons you don’t just learn. Some lessons are tattooed on your soul.”
Their love story is tumultuous, but it’s theirs. It will break you. It will affect you on the most visceral level. How do they go back to what they once had? And can either survive if they don’t make it this time? This is a story of love unfiltered and raw. One that is told in honesty and grace. A love story of human resilience in the face of apprehension and despair. Out of fear comes fearlessness. And that is their love. Fearless. Inspiring. Absolute. Their love is permanent and steadfast. Even through all the darkness, their love endured. It persevered. It simply never stopped.
"How can we be anything different than what we've always been?"
"And what's that?"
Have you ever been so embedded deep inside a man’s heart that you can’t breathe? This is what the author does for her readers. She puts you THERE. Right deep within the heart of Ever Montgomery. You are overwhelmed by his grief, his regret, but most of all, the depth of his love for Marlo. His heart only knows hers. And you feel it with not only the conviction of his words but most of all the power in his actions.
"Love changes over time. The edges may fill, the butterflies hibernate...but some things, the best things, sharpen and flourish as years pass. Ever is the best thing."
The writing left me breathless. It was flawless in it’s delivery and remarkable in it’s execution. The author’s talent to truly capture such emotional complexities among her characters is unparalleled. The words of this book read like poetry. Deep, meaningful, and meticulous. The words will astound you with its eloquent and transcending prose.
"He's the creation and the rapture. Every good and bad thing all wrapped up into one. And now, after all these years, he may just be my resurrection."
Ever Over After is a story of choosing your forever over fear. Reminding us that love is the best risk we can take. It’s a story of the pursuit of love and forgiveness as well as hope for a second chance. Spellbinding and compelling, this was heartbreaking yet beautiful. There was light in darkness. This story was moving beyond words. To say this was one of the most poignant and heartfelt romance storylines I’ve ever read would be an understatement. Don’t read this book. Experience it. Love it. I know I did. I wholeheartedly, and without reservation recommend that every lover of romance reads this entire duet.

As Alexis returns to school she is determined to see through that her bullies never bring her that low again. That they should feel everything she does. How far is she willing to go?
The synopsis barely touches the surface on just how deep this book is. There are twists and turns and secrets. There is revenge. Redemption. Retribution. Hope. Rather than give away the plot, I’d rather discuss just how much this book allowed me to feel. The author places you with her characters to allow you as a reader to understand their emotions from pain and despair to their hopes and dreams. This was unlike anything I’ve ever read. The refined prose will blow you away. The execution and development of the story was just brilliant. The writing is riveting, honest, and raw. The author holds nothing back.
To the forgotten, the ashamed, the hurt. This book? This book is your voice. The author wants us to hear you. And we do. Loud and clear. The author gives a voice to a very relevant and dangerous issue in our society. Her characters have so much buried deep inside of them. But the author never fails to remind you just how brave these souls are. Bullies Like Me is a poignant, thought provoking, and intense read. To say I was moved would be an understatement. This profound story was nothing short of phenomenal.
Nick’s arm brushes against mine as we cross the street, and he flinches.
I grit my teeth, holding in my irritation until we reach the beginning of the path. Then I slam my hands on my hips and glare at him. “Okay, what is your deal? If you really didn’t want to be with me today, why didn’t you just say it?”
He opens his mouth.
My glower deepens.
“I don’t like being out in public. I don’t…like being around people,” he says after a pause. “I like to be alone.”
I throw my arms up in frustration. “Then why did you agree to this?”
Nick steps closer. “But I like to be with you more than I like to be alone, and even though I don’t like to be around people, I like to be around you—probably more than I should. How could I say no to being with you, even if it’s in a setting I despise?”
“That’s messed up,” I say, shaking my head, even as a warm glow fills my insides.
“I’m messed up.”
“You’re not, not really.”
He lowers his head, taking my hands in his. Examining them. It feels like fire and ice when we touch. Sparks and frost. “You have no idea, Alexis.” Nick threads our fingers together, lifting our hands between us, and looks at me.
“Tell me,” I whisper, feeling like I can’t breathe. My air is caught somewhere within the magnetic pull of blue-green seas. Who needs to breathe anyway?
“Someday,” he promises, and then, with our hands still entwined, he leans forward and kisses me.
His lips are soft, firm. Magic. Tasting of dreams and hope. And grief too. I’m kissing not only Nick, but his soul as well. I feel his heartbeat with my lips. I taste the feelings he has for me, and they are overwhelming. Catastrophically beautiful. The kiss lasts long enough to rearrange everything inside me, to steal my breath, to give it back. To let me know Nick has the power to ruin me. To let me know I’d probably let him.

Taylor Shaw had the perfect life—until she was sixteen. That was when everything changed. From that moment on, life went from bad to worse…to the worst. After recovering from a brain tumor, months later, she suffers the tragic loss of her whole family. Since that fateful day, she’s been coasting through life.
Now, the brain tumor has returned, and Taylor decides she’s had enough. She’s going to take her fate into her own hands. No more hospitals. No more surgeries. No more anything. She’s going to join her family. It’s her decision. What she longs for. The ending she wants.
She just has a list of things to do before she goes. First, go to England. Second, kiss a stranger…
Only, Taylor didn’t expect Liam Hunter, the stranger—with his handsome face, his six-foot-three of gorgeousness, and his oh-so-hot English accent—to change things. To change her. To change the ending she wanted.
What is a girl, who is standing on the edge of nothing, to do when offered the chance of everything?
A Note from Samantha: Writing The Ending I Want has been a cathartic and exhausting process for me, but I have loved every second of writing it. I relate to this story more than any of the stories that I’ve written before. Maybe that’s because there’s a piece of me in this book. And not in Taylor having a brain tumor, because fortunately I’ve never had to endure anything like that. But for me, it was the need to feel free from something that has crippled me for many years, just like Taylor is crippled by her own pain. Taylor wanted to die to be free. I never wanted to die, but I did want to be free, in a way that’s hard to explain. But now, after years of feeling trapped by my demons, things that have held me back in life, I’ve found a way to get the freedom I needed. I’m still a work in progress, but I’m working better now than I ever did before - just saying this cryptic stuff out loud is a big step for me. So, writing Taylor in the way I did was a big deal for me. I really hope that you love this story, and see strength in Taylor's choices rather than weakness.

Title: The Summer Games: Settling the Score
Author: R.S. Grey
Genre: Sports Romance/Romantic Comedy
Release Date: May 2, 2016
As an Olympic rookie, Andie Foster has spent far more time in her cleats than between the sheets. For 21 years, her Fridaynights have consisted of blocking shots rather than taking them. But now that she's landed in Rio, she's ready to see for herself if the rumors about the Olympic Village are true:
The athletes are all sex-crazed maniacs...
The committee passes out condoms like candy...
The games continue long after the medals have been handed out...
As Andie walks the line between rumor and reality, she's forced into the path of Frederick Archibald, a decorated Olympic swimmer and owner of a sexy British accent—too bad he's unavailable in a way that "it's complicated" doesn't even begin to explain.
In other words: off limits.
It doesn't matter that he has abs that could bring peace to the Middle East and a smile that makes even the Queen blush; Andie fully intends on keeping her focus on the soccer field. But the Village is small. Suffocating. Everywhere Andie goes, Freddie happens to be there—shirtless, wet from the pool, and determined to show her a whole new meaning of the phrase "international affairs".
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Twenty-one-year-old, Andie Foster is in Rio for the Olympics as she competes for gold with her soccer team. She has lived her life dedicated to this sport, but while in Rio, she is determined to let loose and have a little fun. Little did she know her plans would involve meeting the drop dead gorgeous Frederick (Freddie) Archibald. There’s something that draws her to him. Their chemistry is off the charts. But they are both here to win gold. Not each other. But sometimes life doesn’t always go as planned.
“This smile. This is what unwound me. I’m powerless when it comes to this smile.”
Freddie can’t stay away from Andie. No matter how many times she insists, he just can’t listen. He is forbidden. Due to circumstances, he cannot belong to her. And she should be focused on winning, not his English accent, and his abs, and his gorgeous face, and yeah I can go on! The Olympic Village makes it impossible for them to avoid each other. And with every encounter its even more obvious that this thing between them isn’t going anywhere. But love? Love is stubborn and they are about to find out just how much!
“He basically knighted me and I’d tossed my panties at his face like a commoner. Jesus.”
So that line. Ha. This is no ordinary Sports romance. The author sets the bar high. The writing is witty, creative, and simply delightful. The story is fun, sexy, and downright addicting! The way Freddie and Andie meet is unconventional but SO them. The author has this innate ability to put a fresh spin on her romantic comedies and this was no different! Can we just talk about the writing again? It was on point, the storyline addicting, and the characters unforgettable. I laughed until I cried, I fell deeply in love, and I truly enjoyed every moment of reading Freddie and Andie’s story.
“This heart, Andie…” “I want this heart all for myself.”
Despite the amount of times I keeled over laughing (yes even in public—oops!), this story is also romantic. Freddie is seriously one of the most swoonworthy characters this author has ever written. His words, his actions, he simply breathes love and adoration for Andie. Through the highs and lows of this story, through the obstacles, and lies, one thing always remains. And that is love. Love is about risk. Giving someone the ability to hurt you, but expecting them not to. Their whirlwind romance was definitely worth that fall.
“His struggles were mine. My triumphs were his.”
The Summer Games: Settling The Score is a must read. Whether you enjoy sports romance or not, you WILL now. This fun, light hearted and sexy romance will leave you wanting to be besties with this group. I am excited for what’s to come as the series continues.
I am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way, I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things... everyday.
I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors include Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I'm a comedy geek and love all things "funny". Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.
For the last ten years, I've roamed the globe, captivated by the world around me. I've seen the seven wonders and admired sunsets from every continent. I'd lived and loved and that was enough for me. It would have to be.
I was content, satisfied with my collection of experiences . . . until a phone call led me down a road less traveled.
If I'd known my fascination would pique and be forever quenched only a few hundred miles from where my curiosity had been born, I may have never set sail.
Stripped of the future I'd planned with the love of my life, my family and my career were now all that mattered. I'd lived and loved and that was enough. It would have to be.
I struggled to move forward, to discard the part of me that held out hope for my obliterated heart. But I was bred a romantic, so it was easier said than done.
The chances of being struck by lightning are 1 in 960,000.
The odds of being struck twice are 1 in 9 million.
I risked those odds every minute, often cursing the dark sky, praying for static and a rumble of thunder, but it never came.
No, that second bolt hit me on a clear day.
The Heart can be read as a stand alone but it is HIGHLY recommended you read the first two books in the series first.
