Release Date: January 12, 2016
“The dogs that deserved a chance, the guy who needed a second, and the girl determined to save him.”
My name is Emma Sawyer.
I met Charlie and Wyatt on the same sultry, summer day. It was unexpected, leaving a feeling in the pit of my stomach like the time I drove too fast over Beckett Hill. The moment happened out of nowhere, all fast and quick and a little strange. Or maybe that was just Wyatt’s personality.
It was Charlie that brought us together. Little Charlie with those ridiculous ears. I found the dog, waiting in a pool of his own blood. Waiting for someone. Waiting for me.
Now Wyatt, he wasn’t waiting for anyone. At least that’s what he said, except I saw something different in the broken guy all alone out in the woods. I knew he needed me before he knew it himself.
Wyatt with his hidden dimples. Wyatt with his warnings to stay away. He was a hard lump of coal, ready to burn everything around him. The more he burned, the more it pulled me into the pain I saw etched on his troubled face.
I wanted to help Wyatt. I wanted to save him like he had saved all the Charlies in the world. He told me not to fall for him, but I did anyway. I fell hard and fast and deeply in love with Wyatt Caulfield.
But that was before I knew his secret.
Author Note: Waiting for Wyatt is the love story of Wyatt Caulfield and Emma Sawyer, which also features rescue animals. It’s a 112,000 word standalone, Contemporary Romance / New Adult Novel.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first book by this author and certainly not my last. This beautiful, compelling, and riveting story stole my heart. You truly don’t understand unconditional love until you read Wyatt and Emma's story.
“I want to know your story. You told me theirs. So tell me yours.”
Emma Sawyer meets Wyatt Caulfield and Charlie on the same day. Charlie is the abused dog she rescues from her apartment manager. With nowhere to actually place the dog, Emma meets a woman that tells her about a safe place for abused and abandoned dogs. This leads her to a red dirt road. To Wyatt. When she meets him, she instantly sees a boy that has seen darkness. That knows pain. But he takes care of these animals. To get them ready for adoption. So Emma leaves Charlie with him. Not knowing that by rescuing Charlie on that same fateful day, that she would find her other half in a broken and shattered boy.
“He was haunting. He was beautiful, pulling me down into the pit of his broken heart. I felt something strong and powerful, holding onto my soul.”
Emma goes back to Wyatt’s place. Under the pretense that she wants to see Charlie again. But deep down, Emma wants to know more about about this boy with dimples. Dimples that she barely catches, but they’re there. A boy who loves animals but wants nothing to do with the touch of another human being. He is determined to not allow Emma to get close. As he pulls away, she pushes harder. But slowly, she eases her way in. And soon enough he finds that she has found a way into his heart. He’s just not sure if he’s ready to give her back. His past weighs heavily on him. It’s a part of his life that even the darkness can’t keep away. But being with Emma? She makes it easier to breathe. To exist. To live.
“As she stared back at me, the darkness seemed to fade away and the ghosts disappeared into the shadows. I saw the light of the sun shining down from the sky.”
Waiting For Wyatt was full of raw emotions, exquisite prose. This is a story that pulls at your heart strings. The author grabs you and you have no choice but to become emotionally invested in the story and its characters. While the pacing is a bit slow in the beginning, the author engrosses the reader within the world of Emma and Wyatt. You understand that you must fall with them to truly recognize the depth of their love. You watch two lost souls find each other. Their turbulent love story is intense yet beautiful. The author has written a moving and flawless story about two individuals that found love even in darkness. Their love saves.
“You underestimate me, Wyatt Caulfield.”
“And you’re too good for me, Emma Sawyer.”
I don’t think I’ve ever met a soul as broken as Wyatt. But his heart? It’s so pure. So full. He has so much love to give. Emma is like a breath of fresh air. You literally FEEL the moment when his soul feels an ounce of hope. That perhaps just maybe, he doesn’t have to live in his dark world. While he didn’t believe that he deserved love, his heart loved so deeply. Relentlessly. While sitting in the dark for so long, Emma became his light. Their story is never easy. It doesn’t follow any formula or time frame. Wyatt’s love inspires. His love transcends. His love for Emma moved me. And while his secret is heartbreaking, Emma loved him beyond his pain. His past. She loved him. The good. The bad. She loved every single shattered piece that belonged to Wyatt.
“Every day, I loved him a little more than the last- a little more completely and wildly and deeply.”
Waiting For Wyatt is a story about second chances, forgiveness, and never allowing your heart to give up on the one it belongs to. Emma saw Wyatt. Truly saw beyond all the pain. She grew to love his heart. And most importantly, his soul. Wyatt never believed in being worthy of love. Not until Emma taught him you hold on to what belongs to you. No matter the circumstance. Love always goes where it belongs. My heart goes out to Wyatt and every person like him who’s soul has been crushed. Despite your circumstance, YOU are worthy of love. This book attests to love and all it endures. All that it can overcome.
