Series: Low #1
Author: Mary Elizabeth
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: February 1, 2016
It’s hard living on the wrong side of the tracks.
Lowen Seely has a criminal record to prove it. Determined not to follow in his father’s footsteps, he fights instinct and tries honesty. But hunger becomes painful, and bills are due. Forced to choose between what is right and wrong, the boy from the hood learns abiding by the rules is nearly impossible when corruption is in your blood.
Falling for an outlaw has changed everything.
Poesy Ashby is the definition of ride or die, even when it means turning her back on freedom. The girl from the suburbs gives conformity the middle finger. Bonnie and Clyde have nothing on her love story.
On the run with consequences in the rearview mirror, Lowen and Poesy accept the truth: they are the bad guys.
But can they get away with their crimes?
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Lowen Seely is known as a criminal. To others, the apple doesn’t fall from the tree as his father is also a criminal. But Low’s intent is never to hurt anyone. He is just trying to survive. Put food on the table for his mom and sister. He does this until one day he’s caught. And the consequences ultimately catch up to him.
“Can you feel me?”
Despite being locked up, Lowe’s girl, Poesy is dedicated to her man. When he gets out, Low gets a job, but it barely pays the bills. Poesy must leave school as they can’t afford it. With nowhere to turn, Low and Poesy make some decisions. Decisions that are dangerous, but almost worth it. Until they are on the run. Living the life they never intended. At least not in this way. But they are determined to see this through. Together. You can never doubt the depths of their love. Their souls are tethered for life.
“Dying to protect her will be worth it. Falling for this will be worth it.”
I admired Low’s fighting spirit. That he protects what’s his. At all times. He’s the epitome of devotion. To his family. To love. He loves Poesy beyond reason. He wants nothing more than to be better than the man society has painted him as. He wants to provide for her. Give her everything she needs. But money doesn’t come easy for them. But love? He has so much of that to give her. He loves her so deeply. Relentlessly. His loves moves mountains. His love knows no boundaries. His love doesn’t see status. It only sees Poesy. He doesn't deserve her, but he doesn't know how to not love her. And Poesy’s love for Low is unconditional. Incomparable. He is her life. She doesn’t care what others see in him. Because he is all the good in her world.
“Chaos is our marriage certificate. Mayhem is the bond that keeps us together.”
The writing is profound. The author is a master with her words. Her writing is poetic, almost lyrical. Her words echo an intense and fierce love story. She effortlessly weaves you through the pages of Low and Poesy’s world. Their story is one of heartbreak and the resiliency of the human spirit. Their love story is unconventional, but beautiful all the same. Their love is selfish, reckless, and consuming. You will never read a love story like theirs. While I do wish the execution of the story was a bit stronger, I still found this to be a very thought provoking read. These two easily redefine the meaning of love. Their story challenges every preconception you have on what love truly means.
“She’s small, forceful, and straight-up sinful. She’s lawless.”
LOW is a riveting and all consuming story that will have you on edge trying to figure out the future of these two outlaws. You may question your morals while this book pushes boundaries. But you will also root for these two. Cheer them on. Because you WILL believe in their love.
Three book besties who love to read and discuss books. We are addicted to all kinds of romance with Alpha Hero's, Kick-ass Heroine's and plenty of angst.
