Jack McKenna is a man with two very distinct pasts.
One ended with a car accident involving his girlfriend, Ally, and a split-second decision with horrific consequences. Desperate to escape the guilt, he carved out a new life for himself. Four years spent hiding in the shadows, punishing himself for not having the courage to go back to her. Then, out of the blue, a phone call forces him to face up to everything and everyone he left behind.
Ally Connor’s life was split in two - before the car accident that shattered her spine, and after Jack’s sudden disappearance. Abandoning her when she needed him most, she fought hard to make it back from the brink. The face she shows to the world is strong and courageous, but behind the mask, the pain is burrowing deeper.
But fate had more in store for these two broken souls than either could have imagined. A funeral, a homecoming and a journey of self-discovery that would change both their lives - if they let it.
Suddenly, the secrets they want to hide from each other are the very secrets that could make them whole again.

Absolution was so much more than a story for me. It was a journey.
“ She found herself questioning whether the courage, independence and sheer willpower that she had built up over the past few years would be enough.”
A horrifying car accident shattered the lives of Ally Connor and Jack McKenna. After Jack finds out that when Ally wakes up from the accident, she will no longer be the free spirited beautiful woman he loves, he panics. He will have to tell her that she is broken. And will never be the same. He also holds a secret. One that he cannot face. So he leaves. Little does Jack know that leaving Ally breaks her heart and leaves her soul broken, which is much worse than her broken body.
Years later, Jack is not the same person. He carries guilt with him of the past and has withdrawn from society. He lives a lonely life. Tragedy causes him to return home. To face his past. The truth. The lies. Ally. Jack isn’t ready, but he knows his time of running away is up. It’s time to face the music.
“She felt like she was floating and Jack was her anchor, solid and safe and here.”
The moment Jack and Ally laid eyes on each other, you felt their hearts start to beat again. You saw the darkness in their souls become a little bit brighter just by them being near. Their journey back to each other is not easy or sweet. It hurts. You feel their pain, their hesitation, their anxiety. It’s a process learning to trust someone that shatters your heart. Absolution gives truth to the power in love and all it can endure and overcome. It pushes every boundary as love always goes where it belongs.
Ally’s strength is overwhelming. It’s powerful. For someone to go through what she did and still be able to love without boundaries is breathtaking. I am still in absolute awe of her. And Jack? While he ran away, his love for Ally never wavered. It always remained. His love for her drove him away. He didn’t love her any less because of her circumstances. He loved her more because of them. His love for her was consuming. He loves Ally with conviction. Their love is simply beautiful.
“You’re a walking tower of strength- literally. You do the impossible, and you don’t even seem to know you’re doing it.”
Absolution is very slow building, yet it fits the story line. This beautiful, but heartbreaking story is effortlessly written. Every character in the story plays a part. Their voices are distinct. The author doesn’t write her characters. She breathes life into them. The writing itself is brilliant in that it seemed like every word was carefully selected to be in the story.
I became fully invested in the story and the characters the moment I started Absolution. The blurb does this story no justice. You cannot simply understand it’s depth until you are fully immersed in the story itself and the events that take place. This is not a story you’ve read before. There is true genuine and raw emotion. Your heart beats for every single person in this story. You feel everything. You live their story. Absolution is so much more than a second chance romance. It’s about the power in love and forgiveness. How resilient the human spirit truly is. Love always wins.
