I stumbled upon the world of Dex and Perry when my friend Beth could not stop raving about them. Seven books were already out so I wasn't sure if I had time to read them, but I kept hearing only good things so I a day off to read the first. Let me tell you, these books are addicting! After reading the first, I was hooked! I read all seven books in a bout a week and a half. Back-to-back. I just fell in love with Perry, Dex and all the creepiness that these books bring. And if I loved Karina's writing before, I am now obsessed with her books!
Come Alive is told from Dex's point of view which was a huge change since until this book (not counting novellas) we've only been in Perry's head. Dex and Perry have see in some scary situations as they film their Experiment in Terror webisodes. This time, they are investigating some creepy voodoo going-ons in New Orleans. Unfortunately for these two, they won't be doing EiT alone from now on. The only way EiT can go on is if Max joins their duo and makes a trio. From here on out, some creepy, scary stuff happens.
**WARNING: There will be a spoiler in the next paragraph! So if you have NOT read the EiT series, do so now! I believe Darkhouse is still free on Amazon.
I've been rooting for Dex and Perry from the very beginning. There have been some sexual tension from the very beginning and after what happened in book five, I just KNEW it was going to be just a matter of time before they got together; and boy did they! I got to finally enjoy Dex and Perry as a couple and it was fantastic! I just love these two together. Their chemistry is off-the-charts HOT! Not only did we see Dex's usual side (the asshole-y one that comes up with the funniest one-liners and nicknames like twatwaffle and ginger ball) but we get to see his softer, more vulnerable and romantic side of him. And now that we are in Dex's head, we learn some new things about him and also what's in store for him and Perry.
Karina describes the scary scenes so vividly that I try not to read these books at night because the creep me out a little and I tend to read them under my blankets (Yes, I'm a scaredy cat). This time there's a few things going on: a haunted house, voodoo priestesses, and zombies walking around NOLA. Along the way, Dex and Perry uncover things that caught me by surprise; not only about themselves, but also about other things. A lot of dots started connecting and a few situations started making sense which led to me having a few aha! moments.
Overall, I loved this book. It had sex, love, scares, voodoo, zombies, and even ghosts. I cried, I got angry, I laughed. Some questions I had were answered, while a few others still need to be answered. I cannnot wait to start Come Alive and I hope all of you take the time to read this series because I promise you, you will LOVE it!!
“I love you, I’ve loved you from the very start. And… sometimes I think I can’t possibly love you more. And then I do.”
I thought everyone should care that I fucked Perry last night and fucked her good. Perhaps I needed to get an airplane to write that in the sky. I knew an auburn-haired snatchslinger who needed to see it.
“You fill me up and break my own heart, you know? It just creates more room. There is no limit. I love you, I love you, I love you and I’ll die saying it because I was born to feel it. I am in love with you.”
