"There is something beautiful about each and every scar we bear no matter where it comes from."
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.*
I have been highly anticipating this book since I first discovered it via Facebook. With character names of Dahlia London and River Wilde (who also happens to be a rock star) I couldn't wait to read it.
We meet Dahlia when she is at college, she is happily in a long term relationship with her boyfriend Ben, so she is completely taken by surprise when she is attracted to River after meeting him in a bar. She feels a connection like no other, feeling guilty as she is very much spoken for, she flees after their brief encounter and returns to Ben.
Tragedy strikes for Dahlia and what follows are the darkest years of her life. My heart broke for Dahlia, I could feel her pain and it was a very sombre time in the story. I loved the author's writing style and it was due to this that I felt many emotions during Dahlia's journey.
Five years after their initial meeting, River and Dahlia are reunited. I'm usually not a fan of instalove but I think it was they way in which their connection was written that I was sucked into the story and didn't care that they were confessing love after a matter of days. I suppose that is what happens when you meet 'the one' and hell if River was pursuing me, I doubt I would put up a fight!!
"I feel like fate has brought us together again. I also believe that one night, so long ago, just wasn't the right time for us. But tonight is."
This was a hot book, I loved the connection between Dahlia and River and their hot and steamy scenes. I did feel about 60% into the story that the plot had slowed somewhat and it was focused on their bedroom escapades but again it's River we are talking about so can we blame the girl?
I loved the supporting cast, Dahlia's friend Aerie was a great rock for her as well as Ben' mum Grace and his sister, they really helped Dahlia through some tough times. Bell and Xander who were River's siblings also added another dimension to River's character and it showed his caring side and the love he had for his family. I was also intrigued with the secret the three siblings shared and you can pretty much piece it together so I can't wait for that to unravel in the next book!
I did predict the twist at the end, early on in the book as I am a conspiracy theorist and my mind is always conspiring as I read books :-) this didn't take away from the story for me as I was eager to see how it would tie in and present itself.
There is a cliffhanger and there are so many unanswered questions that I can't wait for Torn (book 2) it will be interesting to see the reactions of Dahlia, River and Bell when the truth comes to light and what the next steps will be. I did connect to Dahlia and River, I loved their relationship so I am rooting for them in the next instalment!
This was great read, if you love sweet romance, rock stars and soul mates then I recommend this book to you.
I live in Florida with my husband and four kids. I've always had a love for reading books and writing. Being an English major in college, I wanted to teach at the college level but that was not to be. I went on to receive an MBA and became a project manager until quitting to raise my family. I currently work part-time with my husband and full-time embracing one of my biggest passions—writing.
I wear a lot of hats! Writer, book-lover, wife, soccer-mom, taxi driver, and the all around go-to person of the family. However, I always find time to read. One of my favorite family outings use to be taking my kids to the bookstore or the library. Today, my oldest child is in college and my twins are juniors so they no longer go with me on these outings. And although I don't need to go to the actual store anymore because I have the greatest device ever invented—a Kindle, I still do. There's nothing like a paperback. So now my four year old and I make dates out of going to the bookstore--it's time I love and cherish.
I like to believe in soulmates, kindred spirits, true friends, and Happily-Ever-Afters. I love to drink champagne, listen to music, and hopes to always stay young at heart.
