Dirty Rowdy Thing is the second book in the Wild Seasons series and it’s one you don’t want to miss. I love reading about this group of friends and in DRT you will fall for Finn and want Harlow to be your BFF, yes it was that good!
Finn and Harlow got married in Vegas along with the rest of their drunken group. Unlike Ansel and Mia, Finn and Harlow annulled their marriage and that was the end of their relationship. Kinda. Sorta. Aside from one random visit to Vancouver Island for some mind-blowing sex, the couple haven’t seen each other since. Until their friend’s comic book store opening brings them back together. In town for a couple of weeks, Finn finds Harlow a welcome distraction and Harlow reconnects with Finn at a time when she needs to forget everything going on in her life. Of course, a casual hook up never stays casual for long and it was during this time I fell for both Finn and Harlow as a couple but also individually.
I loved Harlow as a character. She was a fixer and tried to help those she loved whenever she could, sometimes without thinking it through. But she always meant well. She had some of the funniest lines in this book, simply because she said what was on her mind and she had me laughing out loud. I loved the way she was with Finn; she didn’t pretend to know what she was doing, this was all new to her and she straight up told him how things were. She was my kinda girl.
“I’m rinsing it off because it’s time, not because you told me to. If I didn’t feel like it was breaking my face I would leave it on for the extent of your short visit just to piss you off, you enormous fuckwit.”
Then there was Finn. And this boy was hot like WHOA! Finn likes dirty rowdy sex, Finn likes ropes and Finn likes to bite and spank. Hence, I liked Finn. Also, I loved the fact he was a fisherman. The world could use a lot more rugged, sexy fishermen book boyfriends. Just sayin'.
I loved the dynamic between them including the ten-year age gap. I loved Finn being older and taking lead with Harlow, it worked well, very well indeed.
“I reach forward, wiping a tiny smear of frosting from her lower lip. She stares as I stick my thumb in my mouth, sucking the frosting off, and I blink away, working to get my shit together. This isn’t how we keep our clothes on and stay friends-only. This is how she ends up ass-up on the couch, getting spanked and fucked until dinnertime.”
Dirty Rowdy Thing returned to the dual pov format and I have to say it’s my favourite. I loved being in both their heads. They each had a lot to work through individually with regards to the different issues they had going on but when they came together it was fantastic, I loved the chemistry between them.
As per usual I loved Christina and Lauren’s writing. There is very little I can say that I haven’t done so already. Their writing can never disappoint you, I felt the chemistry, I felt the relationship become more, I laughed, I worried and I smiled from ear to ear. Another job well done.
When I first started the book, I thought the storyline was going to focus more on Harlow’s issue and it would be quite angsty and emotional. It surprised me that it didn’t but as I was reading, I recognised that it was actually done perfectly. This book was very much about Finn and Harlow as characters and I fell in love with them first and foremost; it had just the right amount of angst that I could handle.
The icing on the cake for me would have been an epilogue, I understand there is one with the audiobook, so I will have to wait (not so) patiently until it's added to the ebook, I've heard the snippet and I need it!!
If you haven’t started the Wild Season’s series you really need to! All the gang make and appearance, it’s like the modern day Friends and I really can’t wait for Oliver and Lola’s story.
Buy this book. Read it. Love it. Crave the next.
“You carry silky rope around in the bed of your pickup? Should I Google you, Finn?”
“Why did you come up my way anyway? I never got around to asking you that because you were sitting on my face most of the time.”
“He’s not a whiny La Jolla mama’s boy, he’s a man who was raised to get shit done, and not cry over hangnails. Finn could break your vagina and be just handy enough to put it back together.”
She laughs. “Nope. You just blew your wad inside me in under two minutes, about an hour ago. I think I have you locked up pretty tight.”
“Gross. I fucking love you.”
Lauren Billings (but everyone calls her Lo) has a Ph.D. in neuroscience and before she made writing her full-time job, would spend her days doing nerdy research-type things wearing a lab coat and goggles. She is silly Mommy to two littles, wife to one mountain biking homebrewing scientist, bestie to a shoe-stealer, and an unabashed lover of YA and romance.
Christina Hobbs (but you’ll always hear Lo call her PQ) used to spend her days in a junior high counseling office surrounded by teenagers. Married to the cutest boy in school, she has a thirteen year old daughter, is an unapologetic lover of boy bands and glitter, and also likes to steal Lo’s shoes.
