“She lifts up higher on her knees and pulls her panties to the side, leaving them on as she begins to lower herself on top of me. It’s official. She’s the best roommate I’ve ever had in my life.”
Maybe Not is a perfect read to brighten up a sunny day. I read this novella in just over an hour and it had me laughing out loud. Warren and Bridgette cracked me up, repeatedly. When they weren’t at each other’s throats, or ripping each other’s clothes off, they were actually being sweet with each other. Only Colleen Hoover can add tenderness into a story where you would think there wasn’t space for it.
“I think I might want to kiss her. And touch her. A lot. Like, everywhere.”
“Her smile is appreciative and for the first time, she’s completely bare. It’s as though she’s holding her heart out to me, begging me not to break it.”
Bridgette was a funny character; she was closed off and angry. Her attraction to Warren even annoyed her and she tried her best to keep him away. But alas she had met her match, and this boy was like a dog with a bone, he wouldn’t stop until he got the girl.
“She’s so confusing. She’s so frustrating. She’s so damn unpredictable. She’s nothing I’ve ever wanted in a girl. And absolutely everything I need.”
Warren was the prankster in Maybe Someday, on the surface there doesn’t seem much to him but as soon as you dig a little deeper you find his generous heart. He didn’t want to like Bridgette, but her tenacity spoke to him and the results were hilarious.
“You’re disgusting,” she says. “As a matter of fact, watch the porn. I’m sure you need all the pointers you can get.” Okay that’s low. She can insult my laziness, my finances, my new porn addiction, but she cannot insult my bedroom skills. Especially when she doesn’t have first hand experience.”
“I hate you,” she says through clenched teeth.
“I hated you first,” I hiss back.”
“You kiss like you’re trying to resuscitate a dead cat,” she says, disgusted.
“You kiss like you are a dead cat.”
“You probably fuck like a limp noodle.”
“I fuck like I’m Thor.”
I love surprises like this one from Colleen Hoover; it’s a great addition to the Maybe Not series but can be read as funny standalone. I had several highlights because Colleen’s writing is hysterical. I loved the dynamic between Bridgette and Warren and felt so much more was going on that we were oblivious to during Maybe Someday. Job well done I say.
“We’re doing everything backward in this relationship. Couples are supposed to start out holding hands and going on dates. Not us. We start out fighting, end up screwing, yet we apparently haven’t even made it to the point where we can hold hands. If things continue at this rate, we’ll probably move in together before we even go on our first date.”
Regardless of whether you loved Maybe Someday or not, you need to 1Click this immediately and let Warren and Bridgette burrow their way into your heart.
“I need to ask you something else.” She falls onto her back. “So help me God, Warren, if you ask me to marry you I’ll cut your nuts off.”
P.s it’s worthy noting this is the first Colleen Hoover book I haven’t actually cried at. Not sure if that’s a good thing or not. ;-)
