“I looked at him and knew, there would be nothing easy about our destiny; nothing simple about my surrender. The only question was, would I be brave enough to take that leap?”
*I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.*
Well I loved Unbroken so it was only natural for me to read Untouched. To go back to where it all began and read about the first moments of Juliet and Emerson’s relationship. It was as fierce and consuming-if not more-in Untouched as it was in Unbroken.
Juliet and Emerson are strangers to one another but a connection over their home life seals their fate. They connect on a level that no one can understand or dream of knowing.
This prequel made me love Emerson more if that is possible especially as we got to read from his POV so witnessing his struggles and home situation first hand was heartbreaking and gave us an insight into his later actions.
As for Juliet I continued to love her but I also felt sorry for her as I knew as a reader what lay ahead and how her life as she knew it would change completely.
If you haven’t read Unbroken and read Untouched first you may think their relationship and feelings are sudden and if you are not a fan of instalove then you may gripe but I had already fallen in love with these characters, separately and as a couple so for me I loved the rush of it all and the chemistry, passion and almost desperation between them.
“It’s just a moment. Just a touch. But that brief heat of her skin against mine sends the anger melting away, replacing it with a small wave of calm. A light, in all my endless dark.”
And as before Melody Grace can write one hot love scene. In fact it’s not even the love scenes it’s the whole embodiment of Emerson and Juliet, I can almost feel the crackling of energy between them jump of the page. The writing sucks you in and builds upon the intensity and makes you feel the desire and want between these characters. To me that is quite a skill.
I understand this story is a novella but yes I wanted more, but that is always the case-wanting more of a good thing. The story didn’t detail their whole summer together, it was a tantalising teaser of their origins. The greedy reader in me wanted every detail but then I would rather wish for more than wishing we were given less.
Untouched is a great short read. Can be read before or after Unbroken it doesn’t really matter as long as you read it period!
I can’t wait to read more of Melody Grace’s future work. I was before and I still remain a huge fan.
