I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
This woman never ceases to amaze me. With her words. Her stories. Her characters. It’s authors like her why I read. She doesn’t adhere to the norm. She shatters it.
“I like everything about you. Even the messy and confused and awkward parts. Even the selfish, self-preserving parts...”
Izzy Sundall is living with her aunt and uncle after many attempts at rehab. She has some deep rooted issues, but is determined to never disappoint her family again. Or at least she will try. Former military policeman, Duncan Fieri has been in the same place as Izzy. So when they meet under less than honorable circumstances, he doesn’t run. Oh no. If anything he goes running in her direction. He seems himself in her. He wants his love to make everything alright. But when a choice is to be made, Duncan realizes that maybe he can’t save her. Since he needs to be saved too.
The moment Izzy and Duncan met, you knew their lives would never be the same. They become close over CrossFit and animal training. We learn quickly just how much these two have in common.Their pasts. While this can be seen as a positive, it is also dangerous and detrimental to their health and well being. Both acknowledge their weaknesses and triggers. And know that any sort of romantic feelings should take a backseat to their recovery. But love has no time limits. It waits for no one. I laughed out loud (loudly, sometimes in public), and teared up throughout this book. Izzy and Duncan are unlike any characters I’ve ever “met”. I was in awe of the strength and their spirits. As well as their ability to love. While their lives had cracks in them, their love for each other was always whole.
Overall, My Remedy truly solidifies my love for the author and her writing. She does not adhere to the cookie cutter NA genre. This story goes beyond that. My Remedy is thought provoking, emotional, and will make you question things you thought you believed in. Even with their pasts, Izzy and Duncan cannot fight the feelings between them. You feel the moment their souls exhale. Izzy always needed a spark, and she found that in Duncan. Wholeheartedly. Their love is dangerous. A ticking time bomb. But their love is also beautiful, passionate, intense. Their love conquers all. So get this book. Read it. Live it. I did. And more. I couldn't help but end my review like this...while their love is a tragedy, Duncan is Izzy’s remedy.
