I ADORED this book! Oh my goodness, Monica and her New Adult style is perfect. I took a break from this genre for a bit because it was getting stale and the storylines repetitive with too many heavy issues, but this, this was so awesome and refreshing. A heartfelt good ol "I-hate-you/i'll-show-you-you-don't, kind of love story.
From the moment Jade introduced herself to Shep as "Bitch Face" I knew I would love her. From the moment he demanded she sit beside him and not move, I knew he was going to be great. Like the little Dom to-be, about to grow out of his college boy manwhore phase. The perfect recipe for passion, whole lot of hotness.
I believe Jade's whole attitude of being a smart-ass was her defence mechanism against Shep's charm. And man he certainly could sell his charm for a fortune, that's how good he was. Maybe if she's mean to him he won't really fall for her. Maybe she'll piss him off just enough to keep him at bay so she won't have the time to fall for him and inevitably get hurt in return. The only problem is, that's why he fell in love with her. The rich playboy had been so used to girls falling to their knees at his feet, willing to cater to his every whim. Jade was his challenge.
Of course there were times where I would have loved to slap Shep myself, I get that he was afraid. Jade ignited feelings in him that he's never known to exist before. But really, Jade, slap him some more, will you? What an asshole! I think she gave into him after his little trip-up too easily. I would have thought a feisty girl like her would have given him a harder time. Make him beg and crawl on glass to get her to forgive him. Yes, I would have enjoyed that.
I really, really enjoyed this story. The sweet and sour characteristics Monica gave Shep and Jade suited them and the story so brilliantly. They made me laugh, they made me angry and they made me fall in love, just as they fell in love with each other.
