I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Summer I Fell was a book that captivated me from beginning to end. You will become attached to these characters as they learn that life does not always go as expected. But friendship? That's forever.
The story begins with the end of high school for The six (Josh, Jake/Ace, Aiden, Jared, Mark, Eli) and Riley. Now that graduation has come and gone, they must face something they knew was coming, but not prepared for-life without each other. Sounds different right? Well this is not an ordinary group of friends. The love between this funny, rowdy, sexy group of friends run deep. Throughout adolescence they have always been a tight knit group. Facing adulthood is inevitable. And they all have plans. But that’s the thing about life. Life doesn’t care about your plans.
As the end gets nearer where the six must split and go their separate ways, Riley and Ace become closer than before. The six always protected Riley. It was an unspoken rule. It was just known. And Riley has always been off limits. Until the feelings between her and Ace can no longer be ignored. Their chemistry truly ignited the pages. You felt their passion and yearning for each other. But there is that rule. But love? Love doesn’t follow rules. It breaks them.
“It couldn’t have been love, because love, real love, makes you crazy and selfish. You wanted to be with that person so badly that you forsook the consequences.”
The emotion felt in The Summer I Fell was not expected, but definitely felt. While I expected a romance, I got so much more. This group of friends is unforgettable and will stay with me for such a long time. I was worried as there may be too many characters to keep up with. But I found the the story flowed nicely. The character developments was very strong in that every character made a special contribution to the story. And I loved every single one of them. This book surpassed my expectations. I felt like I was in the story rather than reading it.
“Hearing someone say I love you brought a sense of joy. Feeling someone tell you that they loved you? It was deep. Soul deep...”
I found myself wanting to be part of the six. To have deep meaningful, lifetime friendships is something that anyone would want. But the six? Their friendship surpasses that. Giving away the plot of the story would be a disservice. This is the type of story that you experience. You become so engrossed in the story. You will laugh and cry. The ending? Did not see it coming. I had no idea how to FEEL. But don't let that deter you. There is no doubt I will be reading the next book in this series.
