Ashes to Ashes is one of my favorite book in the Experiment in Terror series and one of my favorite reads in 2013. It was super scary and also super romantic. Karina is definitely one of my favorite authors (I am obsessed!).
We are back in Perry's point of view, which I love! Perry and Dex have come a long way. They have been living together for two months now and things are looking pretty good for them. Perry appears more sure of herself and her feelings for Dex. Dex is pretty close to perfect. He is caring and super protective of Perry; you can feel the love these two have for each other. They are one of my all-time favorite couples.
With the new addition to EiT in tow, Rebecca, the group heads to Oregon, close to where it all started for Dex and Perry. They are filming in a school that used to be a sanitarium for kids with TB. Many kids died there, so no wonder the place is haunted! This book was by far the scariest of them all. Creepy ghost children ( *cough* Shawna *cough*) and a demon crawling around. I got the heebie jeebies while I read it and tried not to read it at night; I kept thinking Shawna was going to crawl from under my bed.
We learned some new things, got a few very nice surprises (and some scary ones!), shed a few tears, laughed a whole lot and got a super crazy ending that had me biting my nails. There was also some family drama and friendship drama thrown in that will leave you with your mouth hanging open.
I can talk and talk and talk about how good this book was for a long long long time. So I recommend you give this series a chance. Book one, Darkhouse is still free on Amazon! These books are so good and creepy, you will love them. Dust to Dust is the last book in the series coming out next year and even though I cannot wait to read it, I am also sad because it means the end of Experiment in Terror (Ada, Perry's little sister, will be getting her own series so I am looking forward to that too!)
"You...make me feel sane in this crazy world. You give me hope. You give me life. When I'm with you...I can't even believe I'm with you. It's like that every morning. Like I'm dreaming, but I'm not."
“What we have – it consumes me. It devours me. And it scares me more than anything we have ever encountered, because if I ever lost you, if I ever had to live without you, I wouldn’t be whole. You, Perry, have my heart. You are my heart.”
“To the thing that hurts you most. To the paranormal and to never being normal.”
The daughter of a Norwegian Viking and a Finnish Moomin, Karina Halle grew up in Vancouver, Canada with trolls and eternal darkness on the brain. This soon turned into a love of all things that go bump in the night and a rather sadistic appreciation for freaking people out. Like many of the flawed characters she writes, Karina never knew where to find herself and has dabbled in acting, make-up artistry, film production, screenwriting, photography, travel writing and music journalism. She eventually found herself in the pages of the very novels she wrote (if only she had looked there to begin with).
Karina holds a screenwriting degree from Vancouver Film School and a Bachelor of Journalism from TRU. Her travel writing, music reviews/interviews and photography have appeared in publications such as Consequence of Sound, Mxdwn and GoNomad Travel Guides. She currently lives on an island on the coast of British Columbia where she's preparing for the zombie apocalypse with her fiance and rescue pup.
