Follow up to Just Breathe (Breathe #1)
For Savannah Rae, living life without her parents was unimaginable. But being blamed for her first love’s suicide? That destroyed every part of who she was.
Gone were the days of innocence, happiness, and dreams. Now her days simply meant attempting to survive. In her mind, her only means for that was replacing her grief with men, booze and the fast life. And for five years, it worked.
When an opportunity to leave the nightmares of her past in Australia opens up, she takes it. Los Angeles beckons - with hopes of late nights, new beginnings, and the promise of a string of endless men to distract her, she can’t wait to dive in.
One thing she didn’t count on was meeting her match.
In the eyes of outsiders, Tate Connors has it all; the ultimate LA bachelor who is content with his lifestyle of wild nights, women and one night stands. He's Mr. Unpredictable with looks that could destroy any woman with one glance.
The craziness of Los Angeles throws them into the chaotic path of each other. Savannah becomes the perfect game, and Tate becomes the ultimate prey. Lines are crossed, emotions are smashed, and the idea of who they truly are begins to be tangled.
However, one thing will become clear.
They are more alike than either one could ever have imagined

Breathless starts off right where Just Breathe left off. Savannah is in New York due to work reasons leaving Tate home away from the woman he loves. Breathless is told from Tate's point of view, which I loved. We get to see his thoughts, his fears, his insecurities, his doubts and, most of all, his love for Sav. Being in his head also let us see that he is not that playboy we first met in Just Breathe, he has grown from that. He does have a jealous side due to his past that he still needs to work on.
Tate's and Sav's relationship it's still a work in progress. They have a few communication and trust issues that they need to work on if they want their relationship to last. I know they love each other, the connection is there, but I can't wait for them to work on their issues. There was some drama thrown in there that I'm also hoping gets resolved in the next one.
We got to see some of the secondary characters that we love like Jack, Tanzi and Mr. Davenport. I hope we get to see the whole gang in book two.
Overall, I really liked this novella. Even though it was short, to me, it didn't feel like anything was missing. I can't wait to read the next one and see what happens with these two.

Tate Connors is a name that will always put a smile on my face. After reading, and absolutely loving Just Breathe I was completely in love with this man, I remember saying that I want one just like him. When I heard that Tate was going to get his own novella I was excited, I couldn’t wait to spend a quiet afternoon on my sofa with this arrogant, charming, hot and sexy man, and to get inside his head.
Sav and Tate are two of my favourite characters; Rachel Brookes does an amazing job again of making you feel their love, connection, chemistry and intense passion, which was, as always, off the charts. Tate and Sav love each other hard, and I love when these two are together, sparks always fly.
I’m not going to go into the storyline, but Breathless pick up immediately after Just Breathe finishes with Savannah leaving to work in New York for a month. Sav is Tate’s world, and it doesn’t take him long to realise that he can’t spend a month away from her. Without her knowing, Tate gets a plane to New York to surprise her. Tate’s time in New York with Sav is not as smooth sailing as he would have hoped. Jealousy, insecurities, a misunderstanding, and ex-lovers all add drama and angst.
However, it wasn’t all drama, I loved the emotions, the humour, the romance, and above all the sexiness of this book. I loved being inside Tate’s head and seeing all his different emotions, alpha-male ways, his fears, his self-doubt, his hopes, but overall how much he loves Sav, and that he would do anything for her.
Overall I loved what Rachel has done with this one. Okay the ending maybe not so much! As there is no gentle way to say this, but Rachel does leave you with a cliffhanger, and an emotional one at that. There was one character I wanted to punch, one I wanted to knock some sense into, and one I just wanted to hug.
Breathless was a great follow up, and just what I needed. I do love a bit of Tate Connors. J I can’t wait to read the next book “Breath Again” and find out what is going to happen next to Sav and Tate. I have heard from a very reliable, fun loving, thong wearing, vegemite and Tim Tams loving Aussie source that it may be some time in February, so Woo-Hoo! I’m pleased that the wait is not too long.
Breathless is a must read if you have read, and loved Just Breathe.
“The girl in the cab being taken away wasn’t just any girl –she was ‘the girl’. Savannah Rae. She was abso-fucking-lutely everything to me”
“I was Tate Connors, man of the night, destroyer of woman, and a notorious ladies’ man, not this guy that was on the brink of a nervous breakdown because his girlfriend had left town”
“I was so scared of you, Tate. You made me feel things that I never thought I’d ever feel from day one. I didn’t know love until I met you”
“One night hadn’t been enough for me- it would never be enough. She was the perfect drug to me. She gave me the hit I needed and kept me craving for more.”
“I need to be with you. I need to feel you inside me. I need to feel everything between us. Show me” ~Sav
It took one moment to lead me to give my heart to a girl without reservation and loving a girl like I never thought I could. My eternity was in her hands.
“You deserve me because you are the best man I know and you love me like no one has ever loved me before.”
“Just hearing her name made my heart explode. I was in love with her. I was weak when it came to her, and it scared the shit outta me.”
Rachel Brookes is from a coastal town on the east coast of Australia where beaches, kangaroos and surfers roam free. She writes angsty love stories with a pinch of craziness, a dash of drama, a cup of romance and a spoonful of sexiness… oh and the main ingredient hot guys.
Rachel sometimes forgets to eat, sometimes forgets to sleep and sometimes can’t remember the last time she cleaned her apartment but that’s because she is in a long term relationship with her laptop and is constantly writing.
When she does step away from her laptop she can be found taking too many photos, making scrumptious cocktails, laughing at Adam Sandler movies and spending her time with her amazing family and friends.
With her first novel, Just Breathe, due to be released in July 2013, her dream of releasing a book will become reality. With another three books already taking up her mind, she cannot wait to start this crazy ride.
