Ember Brycin is anything but normal. From her looks, to her background, to the inexplicable things that happen when she's angry, there's no doubt that there is something different about her. Luckily for Ember, she has a few amazing friends, also misfits, who make the strange, torment ridden, gossip-filled world she lives in a little more bearable. Another strange thing about Ember? She sees things that aren't there... Or does she? When she's forced to attend a school for troubled teens, things start to get even more weird for Ember.
I absolutely loved this book, and am now a huge fan of this series. I have since read book two, Fire in the Darkness, and it was just as fantastic as Darkness of Light. One of the things I loved most about this novel, besides of course Eli (holy smokes, he is HOT) was the mystery. The story line was wonderfully slow-developing and we are left in the dark for as long as Ember is. I was biting my nails in anticipation the entire time, wondering what new twist would be thrown at me,And when some secrets were finally revealed and answers given, it was just as satisfying for me as for Ember herself.
Now on to an exciting topic... Eli, Eli, Eli! I fell head over heels for Mr. Dragen and he will forever be one of my favorite book boyfriends. Is he perfect? No. Is he always hearts and flowers? Heck no. Is he sexy and mysterious, full of danger and passion? YES. As stated in the blurb, this is a NA novel, so there's plenty of steam to go around, and boy is it hot. The author threw these sexy scenes in at the perfect intervals, giving us just enough to break up all of the action this book packs.
Light in Darkness really is a fantastic read. It's full of mystery, action, and will have you second guessing yourself the entire time. It's fast-paced, a little dark, and full of likable and relatable characters that you can really become invested in. The ending is outrageous and heartbreaking, so be sure to have the second book handy if you want to start this one-- trust me, you won't want to wait!
Stacey Marie Brown by day is an Interior/Set Designer, by night a writer of Paranormal fantasy, Adventure, and Literary Fiction. She grew up in Northern California, where she ran around on her family’s farm, raising animals, riding horses, playing flashlight tag, and turning hay bales into cool forts. Even before she could write, she was creating stories and making up intricate fantasies. Writing came as easy as breathing. She later turned that passion into acting, living and traveling abroad, and designing. Though she had never stopped writing, moving back to San Francisco seemed to have brought it back
to the forefront and this time it would not be ignored.
When she’s not writing she’s out hiking, spending time with friends, traveling, listening to music, or designing.
