You know the kind of book that hooks you from the very first chapter? Flash Point is THAT book! This intoxicating and thrilling story will keep you gripping your kindle (or book) until the very last page.
Katherine Shaw, daughter of a prominent local judge, has been through a lot in her 23 years of life. After witnessing the brutal murder of her mother five years ago, she continues to relive that tragic night in her dreams. After her father receives threats against his and Katherine’s life, the past comes back in full force. Maybe it isn’t over? Maybe Katherine wasn’t supposed to live? Who or what are these people truly after? Whatever the reason, it’s clear that her past is not done with her. Katherine is then assigned a bodyguard, Jason Garrett. And then? That’s when the real thrill begins.
Jason Garrett is devastatingly handsome, but off limits. Never fall for the client. That’s his motto. But there is something about Katherine that he can’t ignore. It goes beyond her beauty. Beyond the spoiled rich girl, he believes her to be at first. There is a strength within her that he is drawn to. Even after what she survived and lived through, she is a strong and determined woman. And Katherine? She sees Jason. She sees under his broody exterior and all it entails. Her humor, wit, and of course good looks continue to crack Jason’s armor little by little. What happens when you fall for the one person you can’t have?
Flash Point was full of twists and turns. You cannot go into this book thinking you know what will happen. You as the reader will be constantly trying to guess what happens next. And you will be wrong. Every single time. And can we please talk about the writing? The author seamlessly weaves together a story that is captivating, engaging, and suspenseful. There are never any lull moments as the story is paced really well and you will have a hard time putting down the book. The chemistry between Jason and Katherine is undeniable. There is a spark between these two. They are funny, sexy, and their banter is unlike anything I’ve ever read. I laughed, I teared up. I felt for these two and their story. Love is never easy. And it definitely wasn’t for Katherine and Jason. But their love? Their love saves.
It’s hard to believe that this is even a solo debut for the author. She writes like a seasoned professional. Her character development is carefully crafted. Her writing is addicting and intense as it allows you to live within the pages. And the story itself? It’s brilliant in how it all unfolds. Everything eventually comes to light. And just like Katherine and Jason’s love, the truth is unexpected. I highly recommend Flash Point as it a wonderful addition to this romantic suspense genre. I am so excited for what else is to come from Brooke Blaine. Well done.
You could say Brooke Blaine was a book-a-holic from the time she knew how to read; she used to tell her mother that curling up with one at 4 a.m. before elementary school was her ‘quiet time.’ Not much has changed except for the espresso I.V. pump she now carries around and the size of her onesie pajamas.
Flash Point is her debut solo novel, and she is the co-author of the erotic serial, A Desperate Man, with Ella Frank. The latter has scarred her conservative southern family for life, bless their hearts.
If you’d like to get in touch with her, she’s easy to find - just keep an ear out for the Rick Astley ringtone that’s dominated her cell phone for ten years.
