Blog Tour: Last Second Chance (Second Chance #1) by Caisey Quinn(@CaiseyQuinn)~ Stacy's Review, Author Interview, Teasers & Giveaway!
“He was rough. He was gentle. He was angry. He was kind. He was everything. Everything she wanted, needed, and probably shouldn’t have.”
When I first started reading this book I knew that Caisey was taking it in a totally different direction than her other books. From the very beginning it had its own very uniqueness about it that set it apart, even though technically it’s a spin-off from the Kylie Ryans series you would never know it. I loved the characters immediately, and the heat is definitely kicked up a notch in this one! Van and Stella are such a great charismatic match fueled by two very different things, and the angst and character development is REALLY good and meaningful towards the story.
“Van Ransom, Madman or just misunderstood?”
Misunderstood obviously! I love these types so much, and Mr. Sex god himself is no different. Give me a tortured messed up soul and a glass of wine and I’m sold! Van Ransom is your typical rock star celebrity bad boy who has more booze, drugs, and women than Cabo on Spring Break! He’s on a downward spin-out that has no way of recovering until his record label gives him an ultimatum—either lose his music career or go to rehab at the Second Chance Ranch. Van is basically broken and empty at this point, and he couldn’t honestly give a crap about anything. He’s only agreeing to this in order to salvage what he has left of his career.
Stella Jo is fresh out of Texas A &M and can’t resist the opportunity to work at The Second Chance Ranch rehab facility. She has a great love of Horses and healing/helping people so this is basically her dream job. Stella has some stuff she’s dealing with from her past, and she has some Daddy issues as well. What Stella doesn’t realize is that even though her new job is to help others, she might be the one that has the biggest revelation and healing experience. I LOVE how Caisey does this, she really has a way of reeling you in and turning the tables in the most sweet and unexpected ways!
“Stella had no fucks to give about those types. And she damn sure didn’t work her ass off to be some spoiled celebrity’s beck-and-call girl.”
From the moment Van sees Stella Jo all bets are off the table, he’s smitten almost immediately. Would I call this insta-love? Absolutely not! You would think with their first encounter having such an effect on Van that it would be, but it’s SOOO not. For some reason it just felt really natural for the both of them and the build up between the two makes up for anybody with “first glance” affliction. Their first sighting might have been electric, but the journey they go on with each other is actually very sweet, slow, sexy and somewhat torturous at times. Nothing happens too fast in my opinion and the flow is great.
“If one glance from the woman made him regret his whole life, he hoped he never laid eyes on her again. He’d never had his mind blown before. Not by a woman. Any woman.”
So obviously these two have some issues from their past that they both need to deal with in some capacity right? Yes of course, and the way Van figures out how to get through to Stella Jo is not only insanely hot but is also incredibly sweet and endearing! These two have a great chemistry about them, constantly at each other’s throats in some way. Whether it be playful teasing or little jealous mini-fits from Stella-- it’s super cute. I loved their interaction and Van has somehow honed in on exactly what Stella needs when she has no clue herself, and has a great mouth on him, he says all kinds of good stuff like this:
“If I fuck you—or rather, when I fuck you, because, let’s face it, we both know you’re just delaying the inevitable here”
“May I have a taste, Stella Jo?”
See! He’s polite too…
“And lucky for you, I have an addictive personality. So I’m probably going to need a taste every damn day.”
“Come Here.” Two words. Two very simple and commonplace words stripped her of every protective layer she held.
SOOOO true, I love those two words! He also said a bunch of good swoony stuff too:
“I took away your control so that you could let go. So you could focus on feeling and not thinking. You’re always so in your head. I had to pull you out somehow.”
Stella is pretty funny too:
“If you’re going to hate fuck me to death, you will damn well let me watch as you do it.”
“As you wish.”
I REALLY love these two obviously.
So is it hot? Yes it’s super steamy but it goes so way beyond that for me. This story is about a lot of things, Overcoming addiction is a serious thing and I Believe that Caisey did a great job of incorporating aspects to the story that you might not think of in real life necessarily, but that are highly capable of happening. I think ultimately this is a story about two people healing themselves by helping each other and finding vices within themselves to not only conquer, but flourish the good bits in them. I believe every evil has a silver lining and that is what this book was to me. It was sweet, funny, sexy and real and I would recommend it to anyone who loves a bad boy with a redeeming heart of gold. You will love Van Ransom! And Stella too, she’s pretty awesome herself.
My feelings for this book are more than “Vagina Deep” LOL! Just read it!
How did the idea for Van & Stella’s story come to you?
My husband and I were looking at places to vacation and we came across this ranch in Texas (The Wild Catter) and it looked so secluded and private that I thought it’d make a great rehabilitation facility for celebrity types. I already knew that I’d write about one, but it was the model for the Second Chance Ranch.
How many books are planned for the Second Chance series?
Four definitely, possibly two additional ones. Each one is a stand alone with different characters that somehow incorporates the ranch.
How is this series different from your previous Kylie Ryans series?
It’s a lot grittier and sexier. In Kylie’s series, her career was as much a character as she was, but in this series there’s more focus on addiction and darker, more personal issues.
What was the hardest part about putting out something new and different than what your readers were used to?
The fear that everyone would hate it! Or that they’d think I was just jumping on the erotica bandwagon. I always knew I would write something darker and sexier, more adult than New Adult, after Kylie’s series, but not all of my readers were expecting that leap. Fortunately they held my hand the whole way! I am very blessed to have such loyal and precious readers!
What’s your favorite part about being an indie author?
Having so much control over the cover, the formatting, the price and the release dates.
Least favorite part?
Being responsible for making decisions about the cover, the formatting, the price and the release dates. ;)
What’s one thing that readers might find surprising about you?
I write my books out of order! I always thought I was doing it wrong, writing scenes this way, until I met several other writers at retreats that did the exact same thing.
What can we look forward to from you?
There will be a surprise release this summer that’s a part of the Keep Me Still world, and Falling for Fate this fall, which is the next book in the Second Chance series.
Coffee or Tea? Sweet Tea please!
Chocolate or Vanilla? Definitely chocolate!
Billionaires or Cowboys? Cowboys
PC or Mac? Mac, but that’s a recent change.
Night Owl or Early Bird? Definitely a night owl ;) It’s the only time I can get any work done!
Thank you so much for having me!!
