My name is Genevieve Clare, professional mourner, destined to spend my days donning a black suit and throwing myself on top of caskets for money. Sometimes I mixed it up and threw myself on top of a willing warm body instead. Finding the right warm body, though, that was a different story.
The Morbid and Sultry Tales of Genevieve Clare if that’s not a title that will pique your interest then nothing will!! When I heard that JB had a new book releasing soon. I did a happy dance, as I'm such a fan, I absolutely loved her Leaves series. The covers of those books are just beautiful, and I have a special place in my heart for Inky, Cole and Nico.
“I’m obsessed with all aspects of death and dying. I’m kinda morbid like that”
When I read the title, I was certainly intrigued. I did wonder if a book about a professional mourner was going to be all doom and gloom. Don't get me wrong; yes the story was about death, grief, and loss, which J.B. Hartnett deals with sympathy and understanding.
“My job had taught me that sometimes, people needed the peace only death could bring”
But at the same time it was a romantic, funny, heartwarming and unique story. This one had me laughing one minute and reaching for the tissues the next, oh and a hungering for cakes and pies!!
“When Ahren walked into the room I wanted to smother him with my vagina”
I love Genevieve she was maybe a little quirky but she had a big heart. What she did for her clients the way she can sympathize with wishes, and wanting them not to feel alone was endearing. I adore Ahren he was sexy, cocky and charming. Loved the way he loved Genevieve. Loved the passion steaminess between these two, very hot at times. Genevieve and Ahren are wonderful characters, ideal for each other. I got that soul mate feeling with them, and not once whilst reading this book did they annoy me of frustrate me. They had both been broken, separated by pain & grief, and my heart went out to them, and I hoped they would find a way to get thought it together.
“We’d each had share of drama, self-doubt, pain, grief, and all the rest…it was risky, investing your heart in someone else”
“No going back,” he said firmly. “I mean it, Gen. It’s you and me, now. Not our pasts. Now. If you ask me to leave, I will not go. Do you understand?”
The story is told from Genevieve and Ahren pov, and the only thing I will say was Genevieve was in first person, and Ahren was in third. I must admit that did take me by surprise, but I didn’t mind once I got use to it. The empathy I feel for both characters is what drew me to the story they had both been broken by pain & grief, had to deal with so much. There were wonderful secondary characters, such a mixed bunch with great stories. Love Genevieve’s best friend they had such a selfless friendship. Rocky she was such a great support for Genevieve. Loved Bryce!!
"Ah, you'll find someone better. Tears should only be wasted on an asshole if you have hemorrhoids."
Overall, The Morbid and Sultry Tales of Genevieve Clare was a lovely heartfelt story. It does make you think about death, and see how differently everyone deals with it. Once I started, I didn’t want to put me down, and it is going to stay will me for a long time. I loved that way it ended, although a few chapters before that I was feeling anxious about what I was reading, and thought may happen. There was no epilogue, which is always a favorite of mine. However the last end left me happy, satisfied, and with a big grin on my face.
J.B. Hartnett is a wonderful, passionate writer, and that's why I just loved her books, and I’m glad that she didn’t hold back, and that decided to share this one with us. If you're looking for something different that is low on the drama and angst, but is morbidly captivating then I highly recommend you 1-click this one today. I loved it
She has always enjoyed writing and at one time thought she could be a singer songwriter...the 'writer' part is the one that stuck.
Julie is obsessed with pi...the equation(and the food). She's allergic to cats and cantaloupe and hates mushrooms...so if you ever want to give her a gift, those are out for sure. She currently lives with her own romance hero husband and two boys in Melbourne, Australia.
