*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*
This was a beautiful story and left me needing more. More, because it's not over yet and even if it were, I loved Harley and Trey enough to want to beg for more.
As a child Harley was her mother’s prized possession, the pretty little show pony she liked to parade in front of all her friends. As a young woman, Harley became Layla, the virgin call girl. One that was also being blackmailed for the stories of her escapades.
With Cam as her partner in crime (or you could call him her pimp), she made thousands of dollars indulging in and with her client’s weird fetishes, and sometimes just playing the “pretend you’re my girlfriend” game. Now I don’t know anything about pimps, but as far as they go, Cam seemed like the one you’d want to have. Even though Harley had an unhealthy addiction to him and the lifestyle, he gave her choices and a friendship she’ll never forgot.
Now for the mother factor. What the hell was she thinking? What kind of mother would think her daughter wants to hear all about her sexual partners and even worse, hearing them moan and groan all night long. Talk about being scarred for life, disgusting! She didn’t want a daughter, she wanted a best friend. Harley should have just told her to shut the hell up already instead of covering up for her indiscretions. And that’s where the blackmail came in. It was her mother’s fault. And even when her mother found out what she did for her, she still acted like a selfish bitch!
Let’s talk Trey… Tattoo artist/former playboy. Sure, I’ll take one of him please, but only the reformed kind of playboy of course. I guess you could have called him the “desperate housewives sexual service provider”. He entertained all the rich neglected housewives who resided in his parents building. Not for money though, he was a sex addict. He did it for the rush.
Trey was the guy that gave Harley her first tattoo. And that night changed them, they shared a connection neither of them had ever felt before. They never planned on seeing each other again. That is… until the next night and an unlikely new connection brought them back together.
I loved the friendship they built together throughout the story. I believe it made their bond stronger and more meaningful. And even though they were to follow certain rules and not be romantically or sexually involved with each other, their chemistry just could not put a stop to it happening.
I loved how Trey was sweet and understanding on letting Harley take the time she needed to be intimate with him physically. Harley was also understanding in the time it took Trey to open up to her emotionally. To let her into his past, the part that broke him.
As two individuals they were broken, but as one, they were strong and helped each other heal and overcome the ordeals of their past. They put their old lives behind them and decided to move on together.
I cannot wait to see what Lauren has in store for the sequel. I wouldn’t exactly say this book is a cliff-hanger, cause I know some of you are strongly opposed to them, it’s more of a to-be-continued. But I will say… I NEED THE NEXT ONE ASAP! I want to keep reading about them, they have a happy for now, but there is so much more in store for them. And I’m really hoping Harley’s mother is in the next book. I’m thinking she needs to go through a little hell of her own.
In the meantime, I will be reading the FREE prequel novella, The Start of Us, to get more of my Trey and Harley fix.
