The Indebted series by Pepper Winters can be summed up in one word: unpredictable. There have been so many twists and turns so far and Third Debt was no different.
Nila has been released from the clutches of the Hawks; she should have been on a plane taking her far, far away from the likes of Cut and Daniel, but instead she yearned for Jethro and vowed she would return to Hawksridge Hall to save him.
Meanwhile Jethro was dealing with his own torment, in order to save Nila he had to make a deal with the devil and as a result he almost lost himself. In this instalment all the characters came in to play, Tex, Vaughn and Jas, just to name a few. Everyone had their own motives and specific feelings towards the debt repayment; some were more vocal about it than others.
I was really apprehensive of starting Third Debt; so much so, I actually avoided it for days. With everyone’s reactions, I guessed the ending and even though I knew in my heart of hearts everything would work out, I put off reading it, stalling the inevitable. But when I finally plucked up the courage to read it, I’m so glad I did. It was great to witness Nila find her strength again and even better to discover Jethro wasn’t a lost cause.
As always, I find Pepper’s writing exquisite. I found myself rereading paragraphs for the sheer beauty of her words. It also can’t go unnoticed that Pepper has kept me hooked on the same couple for four books (with two still to come) that’s a feat within itself, not only am I addicted to Jethro and Nila’s relationship but the suspense element as well as the constant surprises keep me coming back for more.
I will admit the debt set up as well as Jethro’s condition has me sceptical. So far in this series, I haven’t been able to suspend my disbelief but I think Pepper has made a great effort to quell my doubts. So I hope this continues.
This book does end in a cliffhanger, that’s par for the course but when you think about it, Pepper won’t steer us wrong, so instead of being angry or distraught, I wait with excitement for Fourth Debt. With this series, literally anything can happen.
The next instalment isn’t out until August, so if you haven’t started this series yet get on it!
Pepper Winters wears many roles. Some of them include writer, reader, sometimes wife. She loves dark, taboo stories that twist with your head. The more tortured the hero, the better, and she constantly thinks up ways to break and fix her characters. Oh, and sex... her books have sex.
She loves to travel and has an amazing, fabulous hubby who puts up with her love affair with her book boyfriends.
