“How come I’m the one that got left behind?
Left Behind is a new standalone from VI Keeland & Dylan Scott. Zack and Nikki’s story was a sweet emotional read, about two people who meet, and bond through secrets, heartache, loss and love.
“Maybe, just maybe, fate brought us together for a reason. To fix each other, not obliterate our already wounded hearts.”
Nikki Fallon has not had an easy life growing up, from a young age; she has had to deal with her mum’s mental illness. After her mum dies, Nikki discovers she not only does she have an aunt, but also a twin sister. In her search to get answers, and to find her sister Nikki finds herself in California. Falling in love wasn’t part of the plan, but fate had other ideas. I did feel for Nikki, with all what she was going through and had discovered she was suffering, but In spite of all this she was a strong, lovely character
“Around Zack, I feel… at home. Like I belong. Something I never thought I’d feel again”
Zack Martin was also suffering he is finding it hard to come to terms with his guilt and grief of losing someone close to him. I liked Zack was also lovely a real sweetheart. I could feel his pain, as he found is hard to open up at times. With Nikki he felt calm, and started to understand that’s it was okay to let go of the past, and move on.
“There’s something about her that I’m drawn to, something that makes me smile when everything else around me only makes me angry”
The story is about fate, love, loss, grief, friendship and hope. I like the chemistry, the bond, dialogue, and communication between Zack and Nikki. And for a true romantic like me, I just loved the notes such a special, just shows how something so small can mean so much.
"Love needs no words. You had me before you even spoke"
Overall, I enjoyed Left behind. I enjoyed being on Nikki and Zack’s emotional journey, which was both heartbreaking, and heartwarming. It was a slow build, and I did see the twist from very early in the story. However, I was invested in the story, so it didn’t take away my enjoyment or the emotional feel of the story for me. There were also some things that I didn’t see coming along the way.
Told from dual points of view and has some great secondary charters such as Nikki best friend Ashley loved her sassy side, and that she was such support for Nikki. Loved the epilogue such a lovely ending.
"Stars can't shine without a little darkness."
“I didn’t have hope until I met you”
I would recommend this book to fans of YA but also NA romances. I started reading it thinking it was more YA, and I tend not to read YA as I find the characters annoying, and wanted to shout grow up to them! But I have to say even with the characters being 17/18 these feelings didn’t enter my mind once, and that is a testament to VI Keeland & Dylan Scott writing, and storytelling. So NA fan will like this one too.
He looks up and I watch his eyes take me in. Slowly. They rake over me, dropping from my eyes to my glossed lips down to my exposed shoulders. Taking his time, he follows the neckline of my simple, yet body contouring sundress, lingering when he reaches my full breasts. I’m sufficiently covered, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t aware that the dress showed off my assets well. Tight around my chest, gathering snuggly at the waist, with a scant amount of cleavage. Just enough coverage to still leave something for him to imagine. And I watch his face change as his imagination takes off running.
His eyes drift down my legs, tanned now from the eternal California sun. Momentarily he’s lost in what he sees and doesn’t even notice I’m watching him leer. Totally worth the extra effort getting ready tonight, I couldn’t be happier at the reaction I get. Eventually, his eyes make their way back up to mine and I arch one eyebrow, letting him know he’s been caught. A normal reaction might be to look embarrassed or perhaps even flustered a little. But not Zack. Instead, he flashes me a wicked grin. “You look incredible.” He’s the one doing the leering, yet I’m the one who ends up blushing.

About the Authors
Vi Keeland is a native New Yorker with three children that occupy most of her free time, which she complains about often, but wouldn't change for the world. She is a bookworm and has been known to read her kindle at stop lights, while styling her hair, cleaning, walking, during sporting events, and frequently while pretending to work. She is a boring attorney by day, and an exciting smut author by night!

Dylan Scott is a New York trial attorney, wife and mother of four. She believes her job as a trial attorney is a subcategory to the field of entertainment more than law. With a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature she believed teaching English was a destined career choice until she realized her life long talent of "argument" could actually be her job. A recent, fairly boring, midlife crisis resulted in a brief stint as a middle school English teacher which confirmed that she wasn't ready to give up the law. Dylan has also taught legal courses at the college level and worked with at-risk inner city youth in the roles of mentor and coach. She is co-author Vi Keeland's biggest fan.
