Liked it, didn't love it.
Both Ham and Zara made my head spin. I just couldn't make up my mind as to whether I should love Ham or hate him. He would say things that were so sweet, then all of a sudden he would drive that knife right through your heart with words no woman in love with a man wants to hear. I'm not sure I got over his admission of his love for February. Even when the sweet and committed Ham came out, his hurtful works were always in the back of my mind. Could he not have kept that to himself? Maybe as a man he didn't know he shouldn't be saying those things? Either way, I would have walked away. If the words a reader reads can give doubt to the love he feels for Zara, imagine how much they must have hurt her.
Zander was a shocker and a great twist to the story. I couldn't imagine how Zara felt when she learned of him and all the things she missed out on. I was kind of hoping that her father, Xainder, would have suffered a long, painful death for the things he had done. What an evil man he is! Maybe he still will in the hell he know calls home. And her mother, Amy, an extremely frustrating situation. Even though I hated her, I had hoped she'd eventually see the light and come around. At least try to put some effort into getting to know her family, minus her monster of a husband of course. Such a shame she was such a weak woman and we didn't get to see her redeem herself in the eyes of Zara.
I also didn't think Ham was quite alpha enough, at least not by the Kirsten Ashley standards I was used to in the previous books in the series. I'm not sure any of the other men would have let their woman's ex's hang around so long. I would have liked to see him a little more possessive. Oh AND there was one important "factor" missing in this story for me, something that ALWAYS happens! I missed the suspense and chase of the omitted "factor". Not sure if you'd classify it as a spoiler if I said it, so I won't just in case.
So with all that being said, I did really like the whole second chance love theme. Jagged is still a good read if you're a KA fan, and trust me, I really REALLY am. It just fell a little short for me. I'll blame Ham on that one...
*I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.*
So I have been having a marathon of KA and the Colorado Mountain series of late. The series continues with Jagged and that is the story of Graham “Ham” Reece and Zara Cinders. I thought it was strange that these characters were dropped in mid-series. I even went through the other books searching for their names. I don’t know if they are from another KA series and have landed up in Gnaw Bone but having no background on them in the other CM books, I wasn’t attached to them to begin their story. But, that didn’t deter me and I wanted to read on.
Zara hasn’t had the best life, with family loss and estranged relationships, not to mention a failed marriage and business, Zara finds herself trying to make ends meet. When Zara is minding her own business, in sweeps the man who broke her heart, Graham. Ham has been traveling for the last few years, after dealing with some personal pain, he couldn’t commit to Zara and used work as an excuse to leave.
“I’d walked away from the love of my life. And he let me.”
Zara is determined to keep Ham at arm’s length, she can’t be sucked in by him again. But of course, like every man written by Kristen Ashley, he doesn’t take no for an answer. Ham knows he has a lot of making up to do. He’s determined to make Zara’s life better and when she discovers a shocking secret, Ham is determined to give Zara everything she desires.
“Said it before, more than once, you matter. You beddin’ down in a bedroom I don’t use is no skin off my nose. Stop worryin’ about shit you don’t need to worry about and just breathe easy for a while.” For me, it was him. It had always been him. And this was one of the myriad reasons why.”
“You’re going to give me that?” His hand came up to cup my cheek and he whispered, “Cookie, pay attention. I’m going to give you everything.”
I felt the main conflict in the story was quite weak, not as strong and gut punching as the other books. Yes, the storyline with Zander was sweet and Zara was finally getting what she wanted out of life. But I’ve come to expect certain drama with KA’s books, so I couldn’t help but think this book felt a little out of place in the series and in the content department too.
Jagged surprised me, being the shortest book in the series so far. KA is known for her 500+ page books. Jagged was almost half of that and I felt the story did suffer, the community presence wasn’t as strong and the storyline wasn’t as intricate. And no one got kidnapped to my surprise!
What we did get was a heroine fighting for her family and Ham, finally setting down roots to give Zara the stability she craved and deserved.
“Fuck ‘em, cookie, this is our night. I want this, a nice place, good food, you lookin’ fuckin’ amazing sittin’ across from me, me sharin’ important shit you gotta understand. They don’t exist. The room is meltin’ away. It’s just you and me, good food, and me givin’ you all of me. This is our night. You with me?”
Ham giving me all of him. “Yes,” I whispered.”
If you are looking for a quick KA read (that doesn’t happen often) then Jagged is the one for you. It can be read as a standalone as there are no links to previous characters in this series, but it was great as always to see them pop up.
Although Jagged isn’t my favourite book in the series, it was still an easy read and I’m looking forward to Deke’s story to complete the series.
Title: The Resolution of Callie and Kayden
Author: Jessica Sorensen
Series: The Coincidence #6
Release Date: September 30, 2014
Things are going good for Callie and Kayden. They’re still dealing with their past and the pain connected to it, but for the most part they’ve moved on. The biggest decision they have at the moment is what they want to do with their lives in the future.
Eventually, though, the past catches up with them and they’re left facing tough choices. But Callie and Kayden learn that as long as they have each other, they can make it through just about anything. And in the end, they discover what they really want out of life.
“Yeah, I know.” I sigh, knowing he’s right, that it could be worse, that I could have a mother like his mother. “I just wish she’d be just a little bit less embarrassing.” I raise my hand and make a pinching gesture with my fingers. “Maybe just a teeny tiny bit.”
“Yeah, I doubt that’s ever going to happen.” Kayden slips his shirt off and chucks it aside. His jeans ride low on his hips, giving me a view of his abs and chest that is crisscrossed with scars. “I did find it funny when she kept cracking jokes all through dinner about how she thinks we’re going to end up getting married.” He kneels down on the mattress, nudging my knees open with his knees until I spread open my legs for him.
“Oh God.” Shaking my head, I cover my face with my hands. “I’m glad you find it funny because I’m sure most guys would be running for their lives.”
The mattresses moves as he leans over me and puts a hand on each side of my head. I crack my fingers apart and look at him. He’s been so much happier since he put the past behind him. He seems to breathe freer, smile more, and it’s probably the most beautiful sight I’ve ever seen. “Well, just make sure you really want this,” I say as he moves one of my hands away from my eyes. “Because you still have time to run.”
He shakes his head, his tongue slipping out of his mouth to wet his lips. “No running here,” he whispers in a raspy voice that I know only means one thing—he wants me. “Ever.” He moves my other hand away from my face then pins my arms above my head.
A while ago, the movement would have sent my heart soaring and not in a good way. But now… well, it freaking soars like a bird high up in the sky never wanting to return to land ever. It soars because it’s free. It soars for him.
“You want me,” I tease as he leans down to kiss me.
“You’re right,” he says. “And then I want to give you your present.”
“But you already gave me my present.” I pat my pocket where the tickets to the concert are that he gave me. He said it was for a redo of a night that should have been special, but he couldn’t give it to me then, but he was ready now to give me everything I deserve—his words not mine. My mom practically fainted when he said it. And me, well I think I fell in love with Kayden even more.
“Yeah, but that one was only the first part.” He kisses me, then softly bites my bottom lip before he leans back for air. “There’s more,” he breathes against my lips, coming in for another kiss. “But you have to wait.”
“Until when?” I wonder, my heart skipping a beat as his hands wander for the button of my jeans.
“Until we’re done with this.” He gives me a wicked smile as he flicks my button undone.

Release Day Launch: One Funeral (No Weddings #2) by Kat Bastion and Stone Bastion~Includes Excerpt and Giveaway
Title: One Funeral (No Weddings #2)
Author: Kat Bastion with Stone Bastion
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: September 29, 2014
The stakes climb higher in this second book in the No Weddings Series for Hannah Martin, a woman restrained by her past, and Cade Michaelson, the man who could help set her free.
I’m drawn to Cade as he charms his way into more of my life and offers me something I truly haven’t ever had: a friend. Yet his humor, patience, and drop-dead sexiness take my breath away, and I know my heart is at risk. I want to move forward but am terrified I can’t.
Cade seems to have it together from his own devastating heartache. His subtle actions, however, suggest a different story. And even though he says he wants more, I wonder if he’s able to trust in our developing relationship.
As we navigate through our tangled feelings, we vow to take it slow. Yet no matter how careful we try to be, things between us intensify—and there’s nothing we can do, or want to do, to stop it.
But the biggest question remains: Is chemistry enough to move beyond the past and toward a future together?
We stepped out into the main room, which was done up just like a funeral viewing, from the spray of flowers at the front to the rows of uncomfortable-looking chairs. And of course, there was a huge ornate cross up on the dais, but then again, we were in a church.
Okay, this isn’t so bad. It’s a funeral.
After a quick scan of the room, I saw Cade. He looked miserable until the moment his gaze locked onto mine. Then he dropped his head, slumping in shame.
I burst out laughing.
Drawn to him, I crossed the room without a second thought. “Nice tie.”
He tugged at the bright collar at his neck, grumbling, “Don’t forget the cummerbund.”
“That’s nothing. Look at me.” I plucked at the shiny, pink fabric. “Isn’t this the most ghastly thing ever to be called a dress? It’s a monstrosity in taffeta.”
He backed up a step, making a show of visually drinking in my entire body from head to toe. “I don’t know, Maestro. All I see is a burlap bag.” His eyes flickered with heat. “And petticoats.”
My legs bounced with sudden excitement, and I forced air out of my lungs on a slow exhale. Cade did things to me—heated, body-rocking, mind-spinning things—and I wanted unlimited amounts of that kind of medicine tonight.
How ironic. I wanted some of Cade’s wild-and-crazy to calm me.
“I need you tonight, Cade. This whole” —I gestured frantically to my outfit, then his— “getup is freaking me out a little.”
He put firm hands on my shoulders, staring hard at me. “A little?”
I thought about the great strides I’d made in therapy and how what I believed became reality. I was stronger than a bridesmaid dress. I’d learned how to separate my present from my past in therapy, and there was no way I was going to let all of that progress unravel now.
Tonight, in a bright pink bridesmaid dress, I made a vow to myself to enjoy the present moment.
I tilted my head and shook it. “No, I’m okay. Even if what I’m wearing is a travesty.”
He pulled me closer and held me against his solid chest, wrapping his arms around me. “But I liked the whole ‘I need you’ part. What if I never leave your side tonight? Would that help?”
“Done.” He pulled back. “So to clarify the details, if I have to lift and hold your petticoats while you pee, will you lift and hold something when it’s my turn?” Wicked eyes glittered down at me.
I gaped. “You are not lifting anything of mine while I pee.”
“But I’m never leaving your side tonight.”
I cast him a sidelong glance, grumbling, “What did I just agree to?”
He chuckled, flagging down a waiter who held a tray of filled Champagne glasses. “Something very interesting from my point of view.” He grabbed two glasses. “Here, drink up. The night is young, and I intend to accompany you to no less than three bathroom trips.”
I jabbed an elbow into his ribs. “Pig.”
He coughed until his shoulders shook from laughter.
I swiped a glass from his hand and glared at him while I drank down the liquid courage, not yet caring that it would make his petticoat-lifting wishes come true.
He slid his hands into his pants pockets, rocking back on his heels, as the corners of his lips twitched. “Actually, I’ve been told I’m hung like a horse.”
I sputtered, choking on my Champagne.
He grinned. “Care to confirm?” He chugged his glass, a crime with the ten-dollars-per-swallow Cristal. “I’ll keep up with you. Then we’ll each fulfill our end of the bargain. Lift and hold. Keep practicing the technique in your mind.”
“I am not holding…there’s no way I’m touching…”
Cade grinned and leaned down, brushing his lips along my jawline. His hot breath fanned an erotic path up the side of my neck until a kiss caressed my ear. “My massive cock?”
My breaths came in short bursts, my heart racing. All I could think of now was Cade’s massive cock. And all I wanted to do was see it. Touch it.
I swallowed hard, trying to catch my breath as aching heat pulsed between my legs. When he pulled back, I stared at him. All I could manage was a nod.
What was I nodding to? That yes, I did want to touch it? My thoughts fuzzed.
“That’s right, Hannah. We both know you want to, now. I hope it’s the only thing you think about all night.”
I forgot everything I’d been worried about. Oh, I was still stuck in my head all right. But my thoughts had definitely guttered. All I could think about now was petticoat lifting and other…huge…things. When the waiter went by again, I grabbed another Champagne flute.
Cade barked out a laugh, grabbing another too. He held it up near mine for a private toast. “To adventures together no matter where we go. Most especially in the bathroom.”
I laughed, shaking my head as we clinked glasses to the most ridiculous toast ever. And yet I couldn’t wait for the adventures to begin.
Most especially in the bathroom.
Thank you for reading and sharing this sexy, humorous excerpt. We hope you read and enjoy the rest of this portion of Cade and Hannah’s story in One Funeral.

Title: With the Father
Author: Jenni Moen
Genre: Dark Contemporary Romance
Release Date: September 20, 2014
I had a choice, and I chose wrong.
I thought I lost everything. But when the smoke finally cleared, I discovered that I wasn’t alone.
Father Sullivan was a force – a living and breathing force, a forbidden desire I couldn’t resist. I didn’t want to resist. But I wasn’t the only one who wanted him, and by all accounts neither of us should have him.
I had decisions to make, secrets to uncover. Both would tear my heart, my life, and what was left of my family apart.
I wasn’t going to take any chances this time around. If I’d learned one thing during my life, it’s that death is the only certainty. It’s a matter of when, not if. For every action, there is a reaction. For every choice, a consequence.
If I hadn’t chosen to live again, I would have never known what life could be like …
With the Father
“Do you believe that?” he asked, his voice solemn.
“In soul mates.” He cocked his head to the side and looked genuinely interested in my answer.
Of course, I believed in ‘the one.’ I also believed that I’d already lost him. “I believe that there’s one special person that is the perfect fit, and that it’s no coincidence when we find them. You?”
“Certainly, some are better suited for each other than others,” he said, nodding to the dogs sitting side-by-side at our feet. “But I don’t believe in ‘the one.’” He leaned against the trunk of my car and eyed me as if he thought I was made of glass and his words would shatter me. He was right to wonder.
Jonathan had been my soul mate. We’d been very young when we’d met – just nineteen. Yet, I’d known immediately that he was it for me, that he was the one. In fact, I’d called my mother the next day and told her that I’d met the guy I was going to marry. There had never been anyone else and he’d felt the same way. If that wasn’t the definition of soul mates, I didn’t know what was.
Father Paul seemed to sense my feelings on the subject but barged ahead anyway. “Have you ever wondered where it comes from … the idea of there being just ‘one’ perfect counterpart for every person?”
“Walt Disney?” I asked, pointing at Princess Aurora.
He shook his head. “Actually, it originated from the Greek philosophy of Plato who believed that man and woman are made of one body and separated by the gods, forced to spend their lives searching for each other so that they can be complete.” He was silent for a moment before continuing, “Obviously that goes against what I believe.”
“Each of us is a complete person all on our own. You are complete person on your own, Grace. That was true six months ago, and it’s true today. You may not feel like it, but even without him, you are complete.”
I scuffed the toe of my shoe in the dirt while I considered his words, noticing that he’d purposefully framed his argument without mentioning God.
Father Paul was walking a fine line with me and he knew it. He was being very careful not to say something that he knew would push me away; yet, he’d still managed to get his message across.
He flipped his ball cap around so that it sat backwards on his head. The act had the dual effect of revealing his face – and the utter sincerity etched across it – and returning the Greek mythology-spewing priest beside me to a mere mortal man again.
I crumbled just a bit.
His mouth turned down as he squinted into the sun. “Of course, I’ve never been in love like you have.”
Jenni Moen lives in Oklahoma with her husband and three crazy, exuberant kids that have the potential to burn the house down at any moment.
When she’s not chauffeuring kids around town, performing her mom duties as a short order cook and maid, or vacuuming for her fastidious husband, she hammers away at her keyboard at her big girl job as a patent attorney. While vodka and exercise have provided some relief from the daily grind, it is reading … and now writing … that are her true escapes.

Title: Temper For You (For You Series, book #3)
Author: Genna Rulon
Release Date: September 24, 2014
"Life is messy. Love is messier." -Catch and Release
Meg Adeio has led a life of isolation—not by choice, by necessity—until one act of heroism forces her out of seclusion. Despite a past shrouded in mystery, Meg is “adopted” by an eclectic group of friends that become the family she never had. Life was good for the first time in…ever.
Or it was until Westly Black reappeared on her doorstep. She knew he was the last man any woman should give her time to—only good for one thing—yet a temptation no woman could deny. Wes might make her life messy, but Meg’s eyes were wide open and she had it under control. At least she thought she did.
When past and present collide, loyalties are tested, forcing Meg to sacrifice her future to protect those she loves.
Temper For You is a gripping story of regret, deception, and redemption – filled with raw emotion, sarcastic wit, intrigue, and love’s propensity to forgive.
• Though Temper For You is a final book of the For You Series, it can be read as a stand-alone
• This story is appropriate for readers 18+
If there is one thing I love about this author and this series is that I become absolutely engrossed in the story from beginning to end. Temper For You was no exception. While this can be read as a standalone, I highly suggest reading the first two in the series so you do not miss out on the rest of the amazing stories.
Meg is living in Sam’s apartment while she finishes her graduate degree in Sociology. We meet Westly briefly in book 2, but he is still a bit of a mystery. Yes. THAT Westly. I had no idea what I was in for with this book. Didn’t expect to love him that much. Meg learns that Wes is her new neighbor. While she is annoyed and upset over this, you can feel the constant inner struggle she battles. Meg is attracted to Wes in more ways than she would like to admit. And Wes? He feels it too. But he doesn’t do attachmentss. No relationships. Well. That’s what he thinks.
Meg is such a strong character throughout this book. I was extremely happy when I learned she was getting a story as well. It’s so refreshing when a writer not only has a great hero, but an amazing heroine. It gives the story such life. And Wes? I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I adore him! Watching Meg and Wes fall in love was beautiful. They are so genuine. Their connection was deeper than I could have ever imagined. I loved the sense of mystery in this book. Meg’s past finally gets revealed. It wasn’t what I expected. Sure, there were small clues along the way, especially since this is her book, but when it came out? Just wow. The author truly goes outside of the norm. She goes where many authors attempt to go, but pale in comparison. The mystery doesn’t just stop there. There is SO much to this story. And if you’ve read any other Genna Rulon books you know that she doesn’t do mediocre. You will be on the edge of your seat. You will feel everything. This story is executed in a way that will capture your heart. Giving away the plot would be a disservice to the reader. You don't read this book. You experience it.
Temper For You is flawlessly written. The characters are charming, witty, sarcastic, and always have the reader engaged in the story. The story and it’s characters are full of depth. The author has a true talent when it comes to the art of story telling. Although the story is told in both the POVs of Meg and Wes, the transitions are seamless. I thought that Meg and Wes’s story is an amazing addition to the series. Well done! I look forward to more of the author’s work.

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age Group: New Adult
Publication Date: September 23rd 2014
At 21, Calla hasn’t done a lot of things. She’s never been kissed, never seen the ocean, never gone to an amusement park. But growing up, she witnessed some things no child ever should. She still carries the physical and emotional scars of living with a strung-out mother, Mona—secrets she keeps from everyone, including her close circle of college friends.
But the safe cocoon Calla has carefully built is shattered when she discovers her mom has stolen her college money and run up a huge credit card debt in her name. Now, Calla has to go back to the small town she thought she'd left behind and clean up her mom’s mess again. Of course, when she arrives at her mother’s bar, Mona is nowhere to be found. Instead, six feet of hotness named Jackson James is pouring drinks and keeping the place humming.
Sexy and intense, Jax is in Calla’s business from the moment they meet, giving her a job and helping her search for Mona. And the way he looks at her makes it clear he wants to get horizontal . . . and maybe something more. Before Calla can let him get close, though, she’s got to deal with the pain of the past—and some very bad guys out to mess her up if she doesn’t give them her mom.
“Why?” I asked.
There was a beat. “Why what?”
Jax sounded tired, and I should shut up or point out that I was now tired and could sleep, so he could leave. But I didn’t. “Why are you here? You don’t know me and . . .” I trailed off, because there really wasn’t anything left to say.
A minute went by, and he hadn’t answered my question, and then I think another minute ticked on, and I was okay with him not answering because maybe he didn’t even know. Or maybe he was just bored and that was why he was here.
But then he moved.
Jax pressed against my back, and the next breath I took got stuck in my throat. My eyes shot open. The sheet and blanket were between us, but they felt like nothing.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
“Getting comfortable.” He dropped an arm over my waist, and my entire body jerked against his. “It’s time to sleep I think.”
“You can’t sleep when you talk,” he remarked.
“You don’t need to be all up on me,” I pointed out.
His answering chuckle stirred the hair along the back of my neck. “Honey, I’m not all up on you.”
I freaking begged to differ on that point. I started to wiggle away, but the arm around my waist tightened, holding me in place.
“You’re not going anywhere,” he announced casually, as if he wasn’t holding me prisoner in the bed.
Okay. The whole prisoner thing might be melodramatic, but he wasn’t letting me up. Not when he was getting all kinds of comfy behind me.
Oh my God, this was spooning. Total spooning. I was spooning with an honorary member of the Hot Guy Brigade. Did I wake up in a parallel universe?
“Sleep,” he demanded, as if the one word carried that much power. “Go to sleep, Calla.” This time his voice was softer, quieter.
“Yeah, it doesn’t work that way, Jax. You have a nice voice, but it doesn’t hold the power to make me sleep on your command.”
I rolled my eyes, but the most ridiculous thing ever was the fact that after a couple of minutes, my eyes stayed shut. I . . . I actually settled in against him. With his front pressed to my back, his long legs cradling mine, and his arm snug around my waist, I actually did feel safe. More than that, I felt something else—something I hadn’t felt in years.
I felt cared for . . . cherished.
Which was the epitome of dumb, because I barely knew him, but feeling that, recognizing what the warm, buzzing feeling was, I fell right asleep.
