“You’re nothing like your reputation,” she told him.
He laughed softly and then groaned. “I know what ye’ve heard . . .” He paused, rethinking his defense, and then apparently thinking better of it. “I earned m’ reputation. Besides, I canna’ go back and change m’ past.”
She hadn’t asked him to. The idea of him going back and changing his past had never even crossed her mind. Had it crossed his? And why? Why would he care about what she thought of him? Malcolm Grant didn’t trouble himself with those things.
“Would you?” she asked him now that he brought it to her attention. “Would you go back?”
She waited on bated breath for his answer, letting only one thing distract her from his reply.
His kiss. His passionate mouth taking hers over and over. Oh, if he would only do it again she would welcome his tongue.
Or should she have slapped him?
“I dinna’ know if I would go back.”
His answer came but it offered her no comfort. She tried not to look disappointed.
“Mayhap who I was in the past,” he continued, “has shaped me into who I’m supposed to be.”
“You’re supposed to be a heartless rake?” she asked.
It angered her that he believed it and she didn’t bother to hide her fierce scowl.
“Something more than that, mayhap.”
The stillness of his voice shook her to her bones. He wasn’t smiling or being glib now.
The sudden touch of his fingertips on her face startled her. When he traced the pad of his thumb along the seam of her frown, she battled herself to keep from going soft all over him. What was he doing? Why had he said what he did? Why was he touching her so intimately—the way she would touch him to know how he looked?
“Ye’re a bonny lass, Emmaline Grey.”
Was this what it was like to be enchanted? She felt mesmerized, paralyzed, giddy with delight. This was Malcolm slaying her heart, being the charming rake he was rumored to be. He’d said Harry was correct about him, but she didn’t care. Not in this moment. Whatever spell he was weaving on her, she allowed it. Helpless to do anything else.
But she did do something else. She lifted her hands to his face.

I’ve wanted to get deeper into some of the time periods explored in historical romance, and am interested in highlanders and medievals in particular. So of course I took the opportunity to read an early copy of the latest Paula Quinn book when I got the chance. She’s pretty well-known to highlander romance fans, and I was curious to see what I thought of her writing. Another thing that drew me to this book was the fact that the heroine was blind. I wanted to see how Paula Quinn handled that. And as it turned out, she handled everything pretty well.
Emma, the heroine, was my favorite thing about this story. Despite her disability, she was strong and just wanted to live like everyone else. I loved that Emma was a healer, since this gave her a very important role right away. She was vital when it came to saving lives. Along with all of this, Emma was compassionate, but she wouldn’t back down from a challenge.
I also liked the hero, Malcolm. He was very loyal to his brother and family, and he’d do whatever he had to in order to protect them. He seemed like nothing but a rake who used and left women, but there was a lot more to him than that. Malcolm was strong and outgoing, but he thought he was unworthy of love. Malcolm never thought he was good enough, and he really wanted to be. This caused quite a bit of angst on his part which I never fully bought into. There was all these stories of how his family had found love and changed their ways, and yet he wasn’t good enough? I just thought it drew out the story needlessly.
There were a couple side characters explored in this book. I really liked Malcolm’s brother, Cailean. We didn’t get to know him fully since he has his own book, but he was honest and loyal. Plus, after what happened near the end of the novel, I really want the best for him. Then, there was Sebastian, who started out completely different from how he was at the end. The real villain of the book was Oliver, a violent baron seeking vengeance for his murdered brother. Finally, there was Harry, Emma’s brother. I didn’t really care for him, especially after what he did at the end of the book. Plus, he was always trying to restrict Emma, and I just really wanted her to break free of him, no matter that they were recently united after years of separation. Besides, he left her after the death of their parents, so I never did like him.
The plot of the book mostly followed Malcolm and Emma as they fell in love. They met at Harry’s brothel when Malcolm and Cailean were injured in a fight, and Emma helped them recover. I liked their relationship because he let Emma do whatever she wanted, with no comments about how she was incapable. It was great. There was also some suspense and mystery as there were attempted kidnappings of Emma. In the fight in which Malcolm and Cailean got hurt, a man ended up dead. This man’s family were obviously unhappy about this, and therefore wanted vengeance. So the book kept me interested for pretty much the whole story, aside from the angst from Malcolm.
Overall, I liked this book. The romance was great because Malcolm accepted Emma for who and what she was, and Malcolm of course discovered that he was indeed good enough for her. Plus, I really loved how the author made Emma a very good healer. The mystery and suspense part was interesting, but not my favorite. I saw a lot of the twists coming. Even so, it all made for a good story, and I do think any fan of highlander romances should give it a try.

*** I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ***
Tegan and Asher's story was not was I was expecting. It had a storyline that I have not read before and one that pulled at my heartstrings. It's a raw and gritty account of addiction and its effect on a person and those closest to them.
“My family was almost perfect. The only flaw was me. I didn’t belong. They shouldn’t have to deal with me. They deserved better.”
I was completely sucked in from the first page. The story flips between the past and the present, and I thought it was such a great way to do it and gave the story such an impact. The past gave us a painful and realistic account of Tegan life spiraling out of control, her struggles, her demons, her fears, and the choice she makes to get her next fix. As I read each chapter of her past, my heart was sinking for Tegan.
“In the mirror, I made eye contact with the broken woman staring back. The little girl within me pleaded with her, but her pleads fell on deaf ears”
The present we get to see Tegan’s struggle and challenges during her time in rehab, and her relationship with the counselor Asher. Asher is the person she trusts; the person gives her hope and who believes in her, makes her see and feel new things. Asher has a dark past; he too is a recovering addict, as their friendship deepens, as does their addiction for each other. They are drawn to each other and their connection is palpable.
“For the first time in my life, someone is really seeing me. They say that the eyes are the windows to the soul”
“I’m the fire, he’s the spark”
Reprieve was a not an easy read part were heavy and depressing at times, but that was to be expected due to the subject matter. The issues are real and are the reality of what real people are sadly going through. There is a lot of understanding, and compassion in this book. Nothing was sugar coated, and as I read the book, I hoped that Tegan could start to heal, and overcome her demons and find her way again.
“You need to beat this addiction because you have so much to show the world…and me”
A.E Woodward takes you on an emotional roller coaster you can’t escape from the writing was flawless and once you pick this book up you won’t want to put down until you've finished. I liked the ending, but I can’t help wonder if there will be more. Is Tegan and Asher's story over Mmmm I guess only A.E Woodward knows the answer to that ;-)

*I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.*
“I wanted to wipe away the haunted look in your eyes and smooth out the crease of grief between your brows...I wanted to be the reason you started living again.”
A Shattered Heart is the story of Kat Darby and how she navigates her life after a car crash that changed her world. I enjoyed book one in this series and when given the chance to read Kat’s story, I jumped right in.
Kat lost not only some of her best friends in the car crash; she also lost the love of her life, Dan. Kat didn’t know how to live incomplete so instead she ran. She ran from her friends, her family and her responsibilities. But running only took Kat so far, and before long, Kat knew in order to move on she had to face her past.
But with Kat’s past came harsh truths she didn’t want to face. Her friends Zach and Mac wanted answers and then came Brian, Dan’s younger brother. He wanted to be there for Kat but at times, his likeness was just too painful for Kat to bear.
I understood how Kat felt, I could certainly empathise with her but there were a few times in the story I felt myself tiring of her martyr ways. Don’t get me wrong, I knew the girl was grieving but in regards to the story, I felt it was losing its rhythm and I just wanted Kat to breathe easy again.
I must admit when I discovered Kat’s love interest was her late boyfriend’s brother I felt unsure. Could I root for two characters that I doubted should be together? The short answer is yes I can and Tiffany King proved that to me. Brian was no longer just Dan’s little brother, he had grown into his own, and he cared for Kat and wanted to see her live again. He ticked all the right book boyfriend boxes and only a few scenes after I met him; I knew he was the man to heal Kat.
A Shattered Heart is at times a sombre tale, it’s emotional and hard to read but then when that glimmer of hope shines through we are reminded that there is life after love and everyone deserves a second chance.
If you are looking for a heart felt, well written, New Adult series then this one is worth checking out.

Subject: You’re a flippin’ idiot
Good morning my dear, naive friend,
I hope you’re enjoying a breakfast of regret and sorrow.
Because you sent me to work for Dean Harper, aka a control freak in a tailor-made suit. Sure he owns the trendiest restaurants in NYC, but c'mon Jo, his ego makes Kanye West look like the Dalai Lama.
He's the type of guy that only hears the word “no” when it's followed by “don’t stop.”
Working for Dean Harper would be like selling my soul to the devil…and before you say anything, I don’t care if the devil has punch-you-in-the-gut brown eyes and an ass to match. My soul isn’t for sale.
The Allure of Dean Harper is a full-length standalone romance with overlapping characters from The Allure of Julian Lefray. Both books can be read separately. Chronologically, The Allure of Julian Lefray happens first.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
R.S. Grey has given us a laugh out loud romantic comedy that is sure to make you fall in love with her writing all over again.
Lily Black has just moved to New York City in hopes to get away from her small town in Texas and to be closer to her best friend, Josephine (Jo) Keller. Lily quickly finds that Jo is pretty wrapped up with her drop dead gorgeous boyfriend, Julian Lefray. So now? It’s Lily against the world. Or at least NYC. She runs a food review blog, but even that doesn’t pay the bills. It’s time to find a job to cover the expensive rent she cannot afford. One night she stumbles upon the perfect job, and it quickly comes to an end the moment she comes face to face with Dean Harper. Oh and the catch? He’s best friends with Jo’s boyfriend!
Dean Harper is a workaholic. He is very successful restauranteur with no signs of slowing down. The moment he meets Lily, he stumbles a bit. Caught of guard that someone as beautiful as she was also very confident and head strong. She is definitely not one to back down especially with that sassy attitude. And Dean has an ego the size of a ---well I don't think it can be measured. Let's just say he is will aware of his good looks and success.. Dean decides (against his better judgement) to do Julian and Jo a friendly favor and hire Lily. Because surely he feels no attraction to her and can do his job. Right? Ha. Nice try.
Dean and Lily are extremely attracted to each other, but very stubborn. Neither one wants to admit feelings of any kind. Especially when the feelings run deeper than the surface. Who has time to give in to those type of emotions? Especially when at this time in their lives they are career driven and focused. But maybe they are what each other needs after all. Dean easily becomes infatuated with Lily. He loves her spunk, but will never admit it. Out loud anyway. And Lily? She's attracted to how Dean challenges her. He doesn't let her get away with anything.. Their sarcastic banter had me laughing (embarrassingly) out loud. Their love to hate relationship was quite entertaining. If you enjoy this author's work, you will devour this one!
The Allure of Dean Harper had everything a romantic comedy should have and more. It was fun, witty, and sexy. I read it all in one sitting as I found it very hard to put down. The author is brilliant in her delivery and execution of this story and the characters in that she puts her own twist on this genre. She does not follow any formula. She simply makes her own. Her writing is engaging and you want nothing more than to become best friends with this group. I loved Dean and Lily, but I do wish we had more time with them. I am looking forward to what's to come from this author. I'd read anything she writes.
I am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things...everyday.
I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors are Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I'm a comedy geek and love all things funny. Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.

Lt. Grayson Masters is focused on graduating the Apache helicopter course, and the last thing he needs is his gorgeous new roommate Samantha Fitzgerald distracting him. While her smart mouth and free spirit are irresistibly irritating, he can’t deny their off-the-charts chemistry, no matter how hard he tries.
Having just been expelled from college, Sam has no business digging for Grayson’s secrets while she’s hiding her own, but that doesn’t stop her from trying to tear down his walls. Each barrier she busts through drops one of her own, though, and she’s not prepared for the truth: another woman laid claim to Grayson’s heart long ago.
Falling in love is something neither Grayson nor Sam can afford, and when that line is crossed and secrets are exposed, they’ll learn that sometimes it’s the answered prayers that will put you through hell.
Samantha?” His eyes softened, revealing the give in him, and it cracked my own defenses.
“Have you ever made a mistake, Grayson? And I don’t mean the kind that costs you an apology. I mean one that destroys you? Where you lie awake at night, unable to sleep, because you’re terrified of what’s going to happen the next day, and the one after that? Where you’d give anything, and I do mean anything to go back and make a different a choice? Where you’re sick all the time at the thought of what you’ve done? Because I have. I’ve crumbled my entire future, shredded any hope of finishing college, and killed off who I used to be. And I don’t…I don’t know how to come back from something like that.”
I jerked back, but he held me immobile against him.
“Stop, and listen to me. I’m not going to belittle you by saying nothing is that bad, because some things are. Things happen that change who we are, and what we’re capable of. So you’re not going to ‘come back’ from that any more than you’re going to erase whatever you did. You have to decide if you’re going to try to keep patching yourself up or if you’re going to tear down and rebuild.”
“I don’t know how to do that.”
“You wade through the pain, and the guilt, and the excuses you make to yourself. Stop drowning in alcohol to numb the fear, and suck up the bitter taste of accountability. You move on with who you are now. It’s not easy. If you think you screwed up that badly, then maybe you did, but you also have to leave room for the chance that you didn’t. Have you talked about it?”
I shook my head. There were two of us who knew the whole truth, and that circle was big enough. “I’m not sure I’m ready to let go of everyone’s vision of who I am. It’s so much prettier than the truth.”
“Not even Ember?”
“Definitely not think-through-everything-twice Ember. She wouldn’t understand, and I’m not sure I could handle her reaction.”
He swallowed and broke our stare like it had become too much because we both knew the truth—it had. “That’s the hardest part, letting someone see who you really are—scars and all. I’m…” He cleared his throat. “You need to trust someone enough to tell them the truth. Make peace with it before it eats you alive. I listen really well if you don’t have anyone else.”
I scrambled to throw up a wall between us. It was safer when he was hurling snotty comments at me. That, I knew how to handle. But this Grayson? The one holding me carefully, keeping me warm while the storm raged outside, offering to help carry the crippling weight destroying me? I didn’t know what the hell to do with that one.
“Why would you even offer? Everything you know about me is a mess. I drink too much, wear too-little clothes, dance on bars, and impose on everyone around me because I can’t get my shit together.”
“You can get your shit together, you’ve just chosen not to up until now. You took that first step with Maggie. I’m offering because I’ve made that kind of mistake, Sam, the one you don’t come back from. I look at you, and I see what I went through. It’s too late for me.” He took a deep breath. “But you? You’re going to spring back, so yeah, I’m offering.”
“As friends?” I held my breath, needing to hear it. The push and pull, the attraction, it was all there on my side, but I wasn’t sure about his, and I wasn’t about to make an ass out of myself. We were roommates, and this could get complicated really quickly.
Our eyes locked, and heat skimmed down my limbs, leaving chills in its wake. “We’re both adults—”
“Well, trying to be,” I joked.
His lips quirked up at the corners. Almost a smile. “Right. I’m not going to say that I’m not insanely attracted to you. I don’t lie. Ever. Plus, I’d have to be dead not to realize the way you affect me. But I’m also not in any position to act on it, and let’s be honest—you’re not, either. But I think we can stop picking each other apart and be friends.”
“Friends that are insanely attracted to each other?”
He inhaled sharply, like my attraction to him had been some secret. Yeah right. I’m pretty sure my body threw out “screw me now” signals the minute he walked into a room, even when I was angry with him. Hell, perversely, especially when I was angry with him.
The siren wailed again, and I jumped, despite the exhaustion pummeling me.
“An hour to go,” I muttered, looking at my iPad.
“Relax and try to get some sleep.”
“Like there’s a chance of that.” But he tucked the comforter up to my chin and drew me closer, so my head rested on his chest.
“Just try. Some of us have to get up for work in the morning.” His tone was light and teasing, so I didn’t jump his case about giving me shit.
I yawned, feeling my body betray me and start to shut down like he’d flipped some magic Sam-sleep button. “I’m glad we can be friends.” Sleep slurred my words.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
How do you put into words a book that touched your soul? Can words even come close to how much this book meant to me? How much it meant in my heart? Not sure if any words can truly describe the magic of this author’s writing of this story. But I am going to try.
Tristan Cole is left devastated by tragedy. It shatters his world. His life as he knows it is gone. He becomes angry, lonely. He is no longer living. He simply exists. To the outside he is cold and cruel. In the inside he is just numb. When he meets Elizabeth, he recognizes something in her eyes. Loss maybe? Loneliness? He sees himself in her eyes. A lost soul.
“Do I scare, you Elizabeth?” he whispered.
“Because I see you.”
After losing the love of her life, Elizabeth returns to her home determined to live for her and her daughter. But that is no easy feat. There are reminders everywhere. Her heart feels empty, her soul missing it’s other half. While she is told to stay away from Tristan, Elizabeth can’t help but be drawn to his darkness as she recognizes the same in herself. Tristan wants nothing to do with her. He fights every time she attempts to get close to him. He tries to scare her away with his harsh words and rude demeanor. But Elizabeth SEES him. She sees underneath the darkness. That maybe... just maybe there is a light somewhere in his heart. And Tristan soon recognizes that perhaps Elizabeth is his light.
“You’re beautiful. You’re a beautiful, broken kind of monster.”
The Air He Breathes is heartbreaking. You are emotionally invested the entire time you are reading. The author is brilliant in the way she crafts her story and characters. She doesn’t just give life to her characters, she breathes her heart and soul into them. This is demonstrated in the way she allows you to FEEL while reading. Every sad event, every joyous occasion...you LIVE within those pages. I am purposefully not talking about the plot as you should immerse yourself in this beautiful story.
“Her soul was scarred, and mine was burned.”
“How did two people so broken find each other’s shattered pieces?”
Tristan and Elizabeth find solace in each other, but they also find a great love. They find the missing pieces to their shattered hearts. Tristan loves fiercely. His love is LOUD. You feel his heart beat again the moment he realizes he loves Elizabeth. His love protects, his love is brave. His heart speaks love. Always. Elizabeth’s love? Her love is powerful. It’s strong. Her love never falters for Tristan. Despite their circumstances, she loves with her entire soul. So many write about love. But this story? There is none like. The Air He Breathes challenges love. It puts love against things you never knew was possible. They love through pain, heartache, and tragedy. Their love is truth. Their love is light. Their love? It saves.
“Show me the shadows that keep you up at night. Kiss me with your darkness.”
Can we talk about the writing? It’s magical and overwhelming. Every word is carefully crafted to add to the story. The author seamlessly wrote both POVs and transitioned between the present and the past. I have read other books by this author and every time I am blown away by her genius ability to write such powerful words. Words that invoke emotions. Words that you feel. Words that make you cry, laugh. Live.
“I didn’t know it was possible. I didn’t know the broken pieces of a heart could still beat for love.”
The Air He Breathes gave me LIFE. You know when someone asks you what book could you read over and over and never get tired of? This would be THE book. Don't go into this book thinking you know this story. Because you don't You'll never read one like this. Tristan and Elizabeth? I will never forget their inspiring love story. Their love overcame so much. But isn't that what love does? Love endures. It bears all things. Their love did that. And so much more.
*I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.*
“Maybe he loved our scars the most. Maybe the truest form of love grew from the deepest kinds of pain.”
Wow, The Air He Breathes was my first Brittainy C. Cherry book and I have to say, it’s not for the faint-hearted. It will tug at your heartstrings but don’t worry you will come out the other side smiling.
Both Liz and Tristan are living broken lives. Moving on and breathing again seems an impossible feat but what if you met someone just as broken? Just as scarred? Could it then be possible to breathe again? To live again? To maybe even love again?
This was a lovely story, I did like the way in which the characters interconnected at times and it had drama that I wasn’t expecting. I will say I was expecting to ugly cry and even though I didn’t come near, I still got a lump in my throat and discovered a new author and great characters.
There was a part in the story that I didn’t connect with, and upon discussing it with a friend; I came to the conclusion that it’s due to personal experience. We each read books differently and because of my own experiences I could never imagine this situatuion happening. It was uncomfortable to read at times and I wasn’t sure if I could fall for these characters. But grief affects others in different ways and even though I didn’t particularly like that one element of the story, it made the characters real. Warts and all.
I liked Brittainy’s writing style and I wasn’t expecting the humorous tone to her words. It worked really well and was injected just at the right time when the storyline needed it.
I loved the characters, I love the journey they embarked on and I loved the white feathers.
For lovers of serendipity and second chances, I highly recommend this book to you.

If there’s one thing you can always expect from this author’s work it’s that she knows how to keep you hooked from beginning to end. This story was no different.
Alyssa Swanson is a single mom struggling to make ends meet. Her daughter, Sophie is her world and she will stop at nothing to give her everything. But her life has never been that simple. Despite the jobs here and there she needs to make more money. Fast. While going to a sketchy place looking for a job, she encounters another. Although unconventional, it’s thrilling, sexy, and alluring. And Alyssa knows she must take it. Despite what it means she must do, she is willing to give up a part of herself to get ahead in life. When she meets the boss, Xavier O’Brien she is stunned. Never expecting someone like him to run that kind of business. One look at him, she knew everything in her life was about to change.
Xavier is a mystery. Devastatingly handsome, but off limits. At least that’s what everyone tells Alyssa. But she can’t seem to stay away. There is something about him that pulls her in. And Xavier feels the same energy when in the same space as Alyssa. But he knows he can’t touch her. So that means no else can either. He puts up barriers so that customers can look but they can't get too close. He will never admit it to himself or Alyssa that he is doing something he thought he’d never do. He is falling. Hard.
The connection between Alyssa and Xavier is electric. It’s intense, addicting, The author places you right there in their moments of passion. Your heart beats as the story unfolds. I found the writing to be captivating. It flowed well and made it easy to get lost within the pages. The love in this story is raw but so heartfelt. These are two flawed people that find the missing pieces to their jagged edges in each other.
Aurora James is unlike anything I have ever read. This is no fairytale or good girl gone bad story. This story is of Aurora James and how she came to be. How she falls for the one man she is not supposed to have. Despite Alyssa’s choice of job, you understand her struggle and the need to feed and clothe her and her daughter. The need to provide. You begin to identify with her. You fall as she falls for Xavier. You feel her struggle in loving a man that cannot belong to her. And can we talk about the ending? I was left speechless. I literally kept tapping my kindle as that could not have been it. There is so much left to Alyssa and Xavier’s story and I am so happy we have more of them to look forward to. I cannot wait for what’s to come.

My mouth hung open as I took in the sight of the man standing in the doorway.
He was easily six foot three, with black hair and piercing blue eyes that seemed as if they saw right through me. His facial features were hard and masculine, like that of a gladiator—strong jaw, straight nose, high cheekbones. And good lord, he was built. His muscles were barely contained by the blue dress shirt that covered his upper body. And through his black suit pants, I could see large, muscular thighs.
“Please don’t tell me this is the situation,” he said to Ghost in an infuriated tone.
“Sure is.” Ghost’s grin stretched across his face and if I knew any better, I’d say he thought the whole situation was amusing, which only served to take me from self-pity to straight out pissed off. Nothing about a single mother struggling to make ends meet was funny in my opinion.
I narrowed my eyes and opened my mouth to curse when the man shut the door behind him, drawing my attention back towards him. He really was a fine specimen of eye candy. Muscles in my lower belly clenched at the unbidden thought of his large body over mine.
“Why the fuck did you bother me with this?” the man snapped, clearly pissed off and not finding the situation amusing either.
“She wants to dance out front,” Ghost explained.
“All the girls dance out front,” the man replied in agitation.
“She only wants to dance out front,” Ghost further explained.
A bark of disbelief came from the man’s lips, and he turned his full attention to me.
“What makes you think you’re better than the other girls here?”
“I… I don’t,” I stammered. His gaze was hard and his eyes were cold as they raked over my body with precision.
“Then bend over and show me what you’re working with or get the fuck out.”
The color drained from my face at his harsh words, even as those muscles tightened again in anticipation. This was insane. No way could I possibly be this turned on by a stranger who was a complete asshole.
And in the end isn’t that exactly what Kevin ended up being? A stranger and complete asshole? My inner voice taunted me.
“Who do you think you are coming in here and demanding me to bend over like I’m nothing more than a piece of meat?” I demanded. I was in full-on defensive mode. I hated being talked about like I wasn’t in the room, and I despised being treated like a piece of shit.
He closed the distance between us until he was so close his breath caressed the skin on my cheek. My heart galloped wildly in my chest at being this close to him. I had to fight the urge to lean forward, bury my nose in his neck and sniff his collar when his woodsy scent wafted around me.
“Don’t you ever question who the fuck I am. I’m motherfucking God as far as you’re concerned. No one steps into my den and shows me disrespect. No one. You got that?” His tone held a razor-sharp edge that I felt lash at my skin with each word.
“Yes,” I squeaked out, my head bobbing up and down in concurrence. If I’d thought Ghost was scary before, he had nothing on this man. He was on a whole other level from scary. The word scary would be closer to describing a tiny little bunny than it would be to describing him.
Coherent thoughts flew out of my head when I felt his hand on my hip. His touch was a hot brand against my skin, making my breath come in harsh pants. His proximity was breaking down all my defenses and making me feel like a bitch in heat.
The material of my thong tightened against my skin right before I heard the material rip. I looked down in disbelief at the torn lace dangling from his large hand.
Holy shit. He destroyed my underwear… with one hand.

I’m thrilled to be here celebrating the release of my 21st book, HARD AS STEEL! After a midnightbreak-in at her apartment, close friends and Hard Ink Tattoo co-workers Ike Young and Jessica Jakes are forced into hiding—and forced to confront the feelings they’ve always denied for one another. I have always adored friends-to-lovers and forced proximity stories, and HARD AS STEEL delivers that and more, including a taste of both my award-winning and best-selling Hard Ink and upcoming Raven Riders series! Check out this excerpt:
They stared at each for a long moment. Jess went from feeling amused to awkward to observed…and that made her hot. Especially as she was standing there in nothing but a towel.
As if he could hear her thoughts, Ike’s gaze slowly ran down her neck to her chest. She wiped at something there and the wetness on the fingers told her it had been a droplet of water from her hair. Ike watched the movement of her hand openly, hungrily, and his desire made her bold, daring, hungry in return.
Without giving herself time to second guess the idea, she reached out and lightly dragged her wet fingers against his bottom lip.
And it was like she’d unleashed a beast.
Ike grabbed her wrist and hauled her to him. He was on her everywhere. His hands in her hair, on her back, grabbing her ass and lifting her up. His tongue licked the exact route that water droplet had taken, from chest to neck to ear. And then he was kissing her, fucking her mouth with his tongue, absolutely devouring her.
Jess held on like her life depended on it, and at some point she became aware of the breeze on her bare skin. She’d dropped the towel, which meant she was totally buck-ass naked in Ike’s big arms, and she couldn’t have cared less.
Ike licked her mouth, sucked her tongue, nipped at her lips. He turned and made for the stairs, and Jess thought she might die from sheer joy and anticipation. He tasted like strength and sin and sex, and she tightened her legs around his hips as he carried her to the loft, eager to see if all of him tasted so good—or even better.
When they reached the second floor, Ike growled low in his throat and his grip tightened on her on her ass, his fingers digging in. She moaned and--
Cool air from the ceiling fan washed over Jess as Ike dropped her onto the bed—and promptly turned around to leave. Jess was so stunned she couldn’t speak. Just as he hit the top of the steps, he said, “Don’t fucking tease me, Jessica. I’m trying to do right by you, but I’m still just a goddamned man.”

If there was ever a perfect crossover novella to end one series and begin another, Hard As Steel is it! Ike and Jess were relatively unknown characters to me but in the space over just over one hundred pages, I cared for them, rooted for them and rejoiced with them!
Hard As Steel is one sexy little novella. It captured the sizzling chemistry between Ike Young and Jessica James. All Ike wanted to do was to protect Jess, he told himself she was off limits but Jess had a sass that I liked and I’m glad she didn’t take no for answer.
I love the Hard Ink series and this novella was a perfect bonus, I’m glad I got to know Ike and Jess, and the crew of new characters that were introduced just makes me hungry for the Raven Riders series.
Laura Kaye is becoming one of my must read authors. She creates real characters, evokes real feelings and provides real entertainment. Everything I could want in an author.
I highly recommend this series!

I’m not gonna lie. I've read the first two books in the series, yet I had no idea what to expect from Brooke Wicks. None. Was there a guy that could handle her? What would her book be like? Well once again, J. Daniels has written a book that I absolutely adored.
Brooke. She sexes them and leaves them. Every man left behind. Feelings? Who needs them? Who has the time? Not Brooke. That just brings on unnecessary drama. Enter hot yoga studio owner, Mason King. Brooke knows what she wants and goes after it. But Mason isn’t that kind of guy. And it totally throws Brooke off her balance. Why would a guy want to get to know her? Ask questions. She wants one thing. But Mason? He wants more. He SEES Brooke. Perhaps that is what has her so scared. She guards her heart, while Mason does everything to embed himself within.
“Christ. I fear I’ve just met the devil. Figures she’s a woman.”
Not so fast, Mason. This is Brooke we are talking about here. This girl knows how to get what she wants. And your challenge only excites her more. Until she realizes he’s serious. He wants to know her. And maybe. Just maybe, she wants to be known too. Without realizing it, Mason and Brooke become close. Their banter is not only sexually charged, but they are funny. There are some definite laugh out loud moments! But Mason also sure knows how to make a girl swoon. His words. His whispers. They are everything.
“Her darkness and her light. I want them both.”
While Mason has fallen for Brooke, it takes her awhile to realize how much she cares for him. And she’s scared. Her first instinct is to run. Run away from feeling. From the truth. From the one person who has made her heart crave being loved and adored. She wants to be wanted. And only by Mason. Her life has never been the same since Mason entered it and she’s not so sure she can do without him. Brooke grows so much in this book. You easily find yourself relating to her. It’s hard to truly give your heart to someone without giving them the power to destroy it. It’s trusting them not to do it being the hardest part. But Brooke gave her heart and soul to Mason the day she laid eyes on him.
“Your soul is recognizing who it belongs to.”
Mason King? My love for you is endless. His heart is so beautiful. So pure. He loves from deep within the depths of his soul. Has there ever been a hero so passionate? Sigh. J. Daniels you have a true talent for writing men that love fiercely. Loudly. Mason’s love is endearing. His love is true. Unwavering. His love for Brooke Wicks has no end. His love is forever.
“I want her letting go and letting me have her secrets, being perfectly unashamed and trusting that I’ll not only like every honest moment she gives me, I’ll protect them for her.”
Sweet Obsession went beyond anything I could have imagined. I cried. I laughed. This book was sweet, sexy, and I loved every minute of it. Of course the entire Sweet Addiction crew is in this book and it made me realize how much I am going to miss them. This can’t be the end of this group!
“You’re beautiful too, Mason. Your heart and your body. Your soul. I’m so lucky.”
Yes, Brooke. We are lucky. Mason King, yeah? Go. Read. This. Book.

Sweet Obsession is the third in the Sweet Addiction series by J Daniels. I was excited to start Brooke Wicks story. I wasn’t a fan of hers after reading book one, but by the end of book 2 I had warmed to her and now after book 3 I love her.
"Love is a madness I will willingly accept if he's the one pulling me under”
Brooke likes the no-strings approach. Happy to have so fun and quick fling and then move on. No one has ever made her want more until she meets sexy Hot Yoga teacher Mason King. Mason was hooked from the first the moment he set eyes on Brooke he wants more than just fun, more than just a quick fling with no strings. He wants all of her! And he will pull out all the stops to show her that the “more” he is offering is the “more” that she wants to.
“I see you Brooke”……..“I want everything”
“I want him to distract me so I'm not completely terrified of what this is or what it's becoming. I don't want to think. I just want to feel. His hands. His mouth. The wild pace of his heart."
All I can say is you will love Mason King he has a heart of gold, and he has an accent and oh boy do I love an accent. He has those alpha qualities, but they are a little softer, and I like that about him. Love the way he makes Brooke feel, the way he wants to see the real her. The chemistry between Brooke and Mason is undeniable; Mason’s attraction to her is deep and their banter flirty, sexy, dirty, funny, and heartfelt.
“You are loved, Brooke Wicks. My adoration for you is endless”
"I want to absorb him, every flavor of Mason. His sweetness and his ferocity. The gentle planes and sharp, savage angles of his passion”
It was great catching up with Dylan, Reese, Juls, Ian, Joey and Billy. They are a great bunch. Getting an extra bit of Joey was a lovely surprise, and I loved seeing how his relationship with Brook has changed so much.
Overall did I love this book yeah, I did. J Daniels with Her fabulous writing has done it again. She pulled me in from the beginning and hooked me right till the end. Sweet Obsession has a great blend of sweet, sexy, funny, drama and angst moments. I smiled, laughed, swooned, and got teary. Love what J Daniels did with Brooke’s character she has matured so much from the first book and we get to see the real her.
Sweet Obsession could be read as a standalone, but you would be crazy not to read the first two books in the series, as both are great. You really should learn about and fall in love with the rest of the characters that are in this great series. So treat yourself to all three books now! You will not be disappointed.
“I’m Yours. My body, my soul. All of my time is yours”
