“Will she pick her passion for dance –or me?”
*I received a copy in exchange for an honest reivew.*
Third Position is the final instalment to Annalise and Raphael’s dance, and I must say it was my favourite of the three. I enjoyed the change in Annalise’s character, gone were the rose tinted glasses and Annalise finally faced the truth and stood up for herself.
“If there’s one thing I’ve learned here in Rome, one thing Raphael showed me, it’s that there’s more. More life, more passion, more to dance than this lonely, cold world of the company.”
The main focus this time was on Annalise and what she wanted out of life, did she take the lead role in Swan Lake and pass her mother’s dream off as her own, or did she take a risk and follow her heart with Raphael? The drama kicked up a notch in this instalment and it worked well, I think part one and two were the calm before the storm and the final book is where it’s at. Annalise took fate into her own hands.
“I’ve danced in the shadows long enough. Now, it’s time to choose my own steps.”
Raphael isn’t Melody Grace’s swooniest boyfriend but he had a lot going for him, he was a sexy Italian dancer, need I say more? It was due to him that Annalise could be herself and have the courage to transform from a naïve, scared girl into a confident new adult.
“I used to think my destiny was set. I thought I knew for sure what I wanted. And then I met Raphael, and everything changed. Because he showed me I was more than I ever thought possible. That we’re more together.”
The Dirty Dancing serial is perfect for a quick, light read. It doesn’t differ greatly from the original version of the story but if you are a fan of movies such as Save the Last Dance then this ticks all the boxes.
If you have enjoyed this serial so far then Third Position is the icing on the cake.

A man dances the same way he fucks. His stamina, his rhythm, the slow grind of his hips. Some people are born to it, others learn through years of careful study.
And dancers? We do it best of all.
The moment I saw her, I knew. Her innocence is intoxicating. My lust is fierce. Primal. To watch her dance is to know the torment of true temptation.
She will be mine.

*I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.*
31 Days of Winter tells the story of Ellie and Dan. Ellie has booked herself a month on a remote Scottish island after finding out her finance wasnât the man she thought him to be. Ellie has sworn off men and relationships but when she meets the tall, sexy Dan who will be her island help for the next four weeks, Ellie knows heâs going to be hard to resist.
Dan is secretive and mysterious. He has an instant attraction for Ellie but he forbids himself to act on it. He feels like he doesnât deserve someone like her and with skeletons in his closet, he tries to keep her at arms length. But with only Ellie for company on the island, thatâs easier said than done.
It took me a while to get into the story as a lot happened at the beginning; Ellie had her life implode in her face, she had issues with her job and then she arrived at the island. It wasnât until 25% that the book hit its stride and I got into the writing as well as island life along with Ellie. Dan was the sexy stranger she tried to resist but it was nice to see their relationship bloom into friendship, well when they werenât blowing hot and cold with each other that is.
Ellieâs character was naïve, and although that was frustrating at times, I suppose in order for the storyline to work it had to be that way. I just wished she was stronger at points, she did her best to stand up to Dan and not accept his behaviour but she was only human and who could blame her for giving in to that fine specimen.
Mercurial Dan got a little bit too much for me, I donât know about Ellie but I had whiplash just trying to keep up with his mood swings. I really wished we got more of his point of view. I would say his pov made up less than 20% of the book. Part of his secret was easy to work out early on, and the rest came later but in order for me to empathise with him or understand his character I needed inside his head more. He had the potential to be a swoon worthy book boyfriend, it was just a shame his moody side and ill treatment of Ellie outshone his tender and vulnerable side.
âShe brought out a strong desire in me to protect her, even though I knew if I let her get close to me Iâd ultimately hurt her.â
I did like the small island setting and each chapter covered a day in the story hence there were 31 of them. The layout worked well and as a reader, I got to experience Ellieâs entire trip with her. Ellieâs best friend Brooke added some much needed comic relief. I loved their friendship and Brooke had some great lines.
âWho bloody cares? The offers on the table, take it. Iâll fly up there, ski to the shore, ice skate across the lake and smack you over the head with a frozen fish I caught on the way if you donât go for it.â
I would have liked Danâs secrets to be revealed in this book; again I felt it would have helped me connect with him, or at least soften my opinion of him to make me want to read their conclusion.
The sex was in abundance so if you like a steamy read, 31 Days of Winter will not disappoint. There was a little hint towards the end of Danâs inclinations in the bedroom and I feel he hasnât shown Ellie his full potential yet!
If you like character driven stories with lots of angst and mystery then you need to check this one out.

"Rough sex and explosive fights power Kaye's third Hard Ink novel, a thrilling adventure that feels more like an action movie with a romantic subplot than a typical contemporary romance. New readers will head straight for Kaye's backlist after powering through this installment." ~Publishers Weekly Starred Review
"TOP PICK! If you're looking for danger, gritty action, and sizzling passion, then Kaye has just the book and the series for you." ~RT Book Reviews Magazine
"Love. Brotherhood. Loyalty to the end."
Hard to Come By is the next instalment in the Hard Ink series by Laura Kaye. This time around, it is Marz’s story and it was one I couldn’t wait for.
Derek DiMarzio is reunited with his brothers in arms as they continue to uncover the conspiracy behind their other than honourable discharge. The action heats up, secrets are uncovered and revelations are made. The group are one step closer to discovering the truth behind the events that left many of them scarred and a number of their friends dead. Marz wants justice for his team; he just didn’t expect to find love along the way.
Emilie Garza’s brother was mixed up in all kinds of bad trouble and unfortunately Emilie was dragged into it. Derek seemed like a dreamboat who appeared from nowhere to sweep Emilie off her feet. But when the truth was revealed, Emilie had to decide if Marz was the real deal and if his feelings for her were genuine. I really liked Emilie’s character and I thought she was a perfect match for Marz. She had experienced heartbreak before, and with the situation with her brother, Emilie understood the importance of family and life. She was exactly who Marz needed.
“Thank you for loving me,” he said, and there was a note of pain in the words that nearly broke her heart. “oh baby,” she said, puling his head down to her shoulder and wrapping her arms around him tight. “It’s the easiest thing I’ve ever done.”
I am really enjoying this series. I love the mixture of suspense, intrigue and passion. The plot thickened with a discovery that turned things on its head and now the Hard Ink crew don’t know what to make of it, and I was right there with them, wondering what it all meant and what would happen next.
The romance element is equally intertwined into the story, and I enjoyed Marz finding happiness. He had a lot to process after his discharge from the army. His best friend handled him with baby gloves and Marz hasn’t been with anyone since he lost his leg in the ambush. I thought Laura Kaye did an impressive job of bringing Derek’s story to life. It felt genuine and I was cheering from the sidelines, wanting Marz to get the girl.
Like the other books, there is an element of instalove and Marz and Emilie were no different. I think it took them three days approximately. Normally this would be a pet hate of mine but for this series I’m able to go along with it. It’s the way things go. Only two weeks have passed from the very first book and so far, in that time, four couples have found love. I think Marz said it best with the words; “Hard Ink was turning into the goddamned Love Boat.” No one can argue with that.
As always, I find Laura Kaye’s writing engrossing and easy to read. Third person narrative isn’t a favourite of mine, but once I start reading it’s something that doesn’t register and I can get lost in the story and characters. There were some beautifully written passages and once I started, I couldn’t put this book down.
“The amazing, powerful, transformative thing about love was that it gave you the strength to persevere, the will to fight, and a soft place to fall when the world became too much.”
I really can’t wait for the next book, and I’m excited to learn Jeremy is getting his own story. With the revelations at the end of Hard to Come By, anything can happen.
I recommend the Hard Ink series for readers who like mystery and suspense with their sexy romance. This is a must read.

He just wanted more of the heat.
Marz nuzzled the side of Emilie’s face with his nose, his lips. She turned her face toward him and offered her lips. He couldn’t refuse.
Capturing her mouth on a tortured groan, Marz poured every ounce of his longing and confusion and desire into the kiss. They grasped at each other and Emilie turned in his arms. He pinned her against the railing and planted his hands in her hair. She opened to him and accepted his tongue, sucking him in until Marz’s blood ran hot and his hard-on ached. He ground himself against her and devoured every little moan and whimper and gasp she spilled.
Trailing kisses from her mouth to her jaw to her ear, Marz dragged a hand down her body and grasped her breast in his palm. She cried out and her head dropped back, drawing his mouth to her neck, where he licked and sucked and nipped as he kneaded her soft flesh. “You are so damn sexy.”
Her hand flew to his hair and grasped the back of his head. “Touch me,” she said. “Don’t stop touching me.”
Marz pulled away long enough to do a three-sixty scan. The lighthouse cast a dark shadow over them, and the pier was otherwise empty. His heart raced and his pulse hammered. He dove back in, trailing kisses down her neck to her collarbone, which he traced with his tongue. Her nails scratched deliciously at his scalp and her grip urged him down.
Through the thin material of her blouse and bra, he mouthed and flicked at her nipple. He shifted the deep vee of the neckline to reveal a lacy royal blue bra. He tongued her through the lace until she was panting and moaning and writhing against the railing.
“Oh, my God,” she rasped as he shifted her shirt and moved to her other breast. This time, he tugged the lace down to bare the deep pink of her nipple. She tasted and smelled like something fruity and sweet, and it made Marz hunger for more. “Derek,” she gasped. “Yes, yes, yes.”
Her palm cupped and squeezed the bulge of his erection through his jeans. His hips jerked into the touch, craving more of her, all of her. He groaned and it seemed to egg her on, because she pressed and rubbed her hand against his trapped cock until he was panting and imagining taking her down to the ground.
“Jesus, Emilie, you’re driving me fucking crazy,” he said as he worked kisses back up her body to her mouth.
“I know just what you mean,” she said. Her molten hot gaze met his. Eyes hooded, lips shiny and swollen, cheeks flushed, she was a freaking goddess standing under the moonlit sky. He felt the force of her beauty every bit as much in his chest as in his cock.
“You sure about that, babe?” he asked as he took her mouth in a deep, wet kiss. “Because my imagination has me stripping you of those fuck-hot jeans.”
“Yeah?” She rubbed his cock in a long stroke with the heel of her hand. “Mine has us getting a room at the hotel back there. So I’m sure,” she said with a smile.
Marz’s heart hammered against his breastbone and his cock jerked, clearly liking her idea, too. Except, if he took her up on it, he was going to end up buried inside her for as long as she’d have him. And so long as this clusterfuck of a situation defined their relationship, he couldn’t take things that far. Could he?

Release Day Launch - (Un)bidden (Judgement of the Six #4) by Melissa Haag ~ Includes Brianna's Review!
Author: Melissa Haag
Series: Judgement of the Six #4
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Category: Mature YA
Release Date: November 24, 2014
I left home because I didn’t want to end up in a cage like a lab rat. Hitching rides, begging for cash, and sleeping on the ground got old fast. That was the only reason I braved an overgrown path to a group of buildings. I’d hoped to find a bed and a decent night’s sleep. However, what I found was a place overrun by werewolves.
While on the run, Charlene finds herself surrounded by werewolves, creatures she can’t control with her mind like she can humans. Their existence has her believing she’s found a safe place to stay, a place where secrets are okay. However, she soon discovers she’s anything but safe. Charlene must learn how to use her abilities to influence the strange new species because if she can’t, the next bite she suffers might just kill her.
Read how the cycle begins, and have no doubt. Charlene’s past will shape the future of the Judgements.
It’s been a pretty long time since I read the third installment in this series. Luckily for me, this book was a kind of prequel. Almost all of it took place quite a few years before the first book, so I didn’t really need to remember much. That being said, I did remember liking a lot of Melissa Haag’s romances, and this one was no exception.
Charlene was a really good heroine. As her ability was controlling other people’s wills, she could easily have turned all-powerful, making everyone do whatever she wanted. However, she did the opposite of that. Charlene always asked people to do things whenever she could, was loyal to those she cared about, and wanted everyone to be happy. Seeing her past just made me like her that much more, and I felt sorry for the fact that she had to leave her parents in order to find happiness.
Thomas was Charlene’s love interest. The author did a wonderful job of making me dislike him, and then like him right along with Charlene. In the end, I loved all of the little things he did for her, and how they generally talked things out. Their romance is definitely right up with the rest in this series in terms of greatness. It was one of those that went from dislike to love, and I’m pretty much unable to resist that trope, when done realistically.
The plot of this book was, as I said, mostly in the past. It followed Charlene as she ended up living with the werewolves. Trying to evade being claimed by one of the numerous men, Charlene also tried to ensure the werewolves had a more stable future. I really liked seeing Charlene hold her own against these creatures that she was trying to live with, and watching her and Thomas start a relationship was great. The book never dragged for me, even though there was no real threat, and no constant action. It was just a story about life, building a family, and finding a home.
Overall, I really liked this book. It didn’t move the present storyline along too much, but that was okay. The past events were definitely intriguing enough for me, and i feel like the next books in this series will have all the action and quick pace of the others. I really recommend this book if you’ve read the others in this series, and if you haven’t, go and start with book one, (Hope(less).

I’m Luna, and I’ve been in the Twilight Zone since I moved in with my sister and her boyfriend.
I sense their secrets in every corner of the house.
Gabriel is eerily beautiful, and his personality disturbingly perfect, while Gaia’s inexplicable PTSD and mood swings bounce her between bliss and despair.
Until Gabriel’s brothers pay a visit.
He’s the night to his brother’s day. He’s sex personified and the devil in one hell of a stunning package. It’s been years since I last saw him, but this man makes me burn. He hooks me with his touch. Enthralls me with those oddly simmering eyes. He pierces my soul with his knowing smirks, and I am losing myself in him.
With pearlescent hair and spring green eyes, he crashes into my world. I thought this crazy, beautiful man could mend my bleeding heart. Make things recognizable again—normal. Instead he pulls me from the embers and feeds me to the open fire.
College life. Is this what everyone goes trough?
With his arms draped around her, he patiently followed the blur of dancers and colors wiggling across the screen. Gabriel had a peaceful air about him that I recognized; when Gaia was content, so was he.
His gaze flitted to me. “Wait,” he mouthed, and I nodded, surprised. Fluidly, he scooped up my sister and deposited her in their bedroom.
After he came back, he sank to the couch, crisscrossing his legs with more grace than any dancer.
“You’ve seen Cassiel.” His jewel eyes fixed on me. I inhaled sharply.
“Yes … how did you know?”
“I have my ways,” he said, his tone sweeter, humbler than Cassiel’s when he’d uttered the same words. Again I wondered how they could be brothers. “Did he say why he’s in Shades Run?”
“Yeah, he thinks you need his help.”
Gabriel’s expression turned somber. His gaze sparkled, sweeping the ceiling before returning to me. For a second it reminded me of flashlights.
“When did he come to see you?” His voice sounded calm, but I sensed how important the question was. If I’d known the correct answer, I would have lied—anything for the relaxed happiness to return.
“Tuesday, at the cafeteria.” I tried to read his expression, but Gabriel’s face remained blank.
“Did he stay with you?”
What? Surely, he couldn’t be asking if he’d slept over?
I examined his features again. He didn’t appear uncomfortable or apologetic. Then again, I might not recognize such outlandish emotions on Gabriel. I gave up and went for the truth.
“We had coffee at his place. Later, he accompanied me to the audition for Sleeping Beauty, among other things.”
Plenty of other things.
Gabriel frowned. “He took you to his apartment? Are you okay?”
“Why shouldn’t I be okay, Gabriel? Oh, I get it—he’s an axe murderer, isn’t he?”
I burst out laughing, but Gabriel pinched the bridge of his nose.
“What did he do to you, Luna?” The tone of his voice set my heart off in double beats.
“He made me a latte, that’s all. Oh, and he told me about a balcony scene nobody’s mentioned to me.”
I tried to glower at him, but it was difficult.
Gabriel gasped, and I knew. Of course he understood what I alluded to. Just like that, he’d triggered my anger, and now my glare came naturally.
“Yeah? What happened four years ago, Gabriel? You guys never tell me anything! I’m her sister. I love her like crazy. Don’t you think I deserve to know that she dove off a freaking roof?”
In our family, Gaia was the temperamental one. For the first time, I understood the allure of a good hissy fit.
I moved from Norway to the United States in 2001, and the first awesome five years I spent in the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles. Then I read “The Book,” aka Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, which spurred my husband and me to move cross country to beautiful Savannah, Georgia.
I’m currently on my seventh year in the Deep South, where I enjoy the heat and the humidity. Besides writing, I spend my time with our “petting zoo” as in an opinionated parrot, a herd of cats that are experts on keyboard shortcuts, and puppies that…uh, bark.
I hold a Master’s degree in languages, with concentrations within literature and linguistics. I taught at college level for a decade before settling in as a graduate adviser at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Writing is my passion, my joy, and my addiction. When I’m not writing, I read.
Shattering Halos is my debut novel, and its standalone sequel, Stargazer, is due out later this year.

Twenty-one years ago, Gabriella's life was stolen from her before it even began.
Orphaned at birth and encompassed in a fortress of lies to protect her identity, she never truly understood her purpose on this earth. But now that she has ascended, embracing her destiny, the ghosts of her past have come back to haunt her.
Even with insurmountable power running through her veins, part of Gabriella is irreparably broken. And with old enemies working to destroy the tiny shred of normalcy she has left, she'll be forced to face the ugly truth about Dorian, the man she chose to love despite his darkness.
Everything she loved is a lie, and everyone she thought she knew is a stranger. And now that Gabriella is about to be thrust into the battle of her life, she discovers that she may be fighting for the wrong side.
*This is book 3 of The Dark Light Series, the highly anticipated conclusion to Gabriella and Dorian's beautifully tragic love story.
Without warning, we’re on the bed, wisps of charcoal vapors swirling around our bodies. I’m flat on my back with Dorian hovering over me, watching, waiting for his influence to overtake my consciousness. While his body doesn’t touch mine, his mind—his beautiful-fucking-mind—begins to infiltrate every part of me. Sliding over the surface of my skin, so soft and light, like the silkiest feather. Pinching my sensitive nipples and raking down my belly. Igniting heat between my thighs until my panties are damp with desire.
I feel him all over me—teasing my pleasure points with his phantom touches. He moves in closer, so close that our lips nearly meet, yet he still won’t kiss me. He still won’t let me taste the sweet longing that is undoubtedly tempting his tongue. I lift my head to take it from him only to find that I am bound to the bed, completely under his control.
I’ve been here before. I’ve been under Dorian’s spell enough times to know how this will play out. He’s a man of dominating control, and today has been nothing short of chaos. He’s taking it back. He’s taking me back.
“Touch me,” I beg, my voice breathless with agony.
“No.” His eyes spark with white fire on that single word, showing the torment of his restraint.
“Please,” I whimper. “I need you to touch me. I need to feel you.”
“You feel me now,” he rasps.
“No. That’s not enough.”
“Oh? Not enough?” Pressure spikes in my core and I cry out as sensation snakes through my swollen sex. He doesn’t move, but I feel him there—touching, licking, even biting. Soft and hard, hot and wet, all at the same time.
“I can feel you throbbing, Gabriella. It hurts, doesn’t it?”
“Yes.” My voice is an intelligible squeak. It does hurt, yet it feels oh-so-incredibly good. Dorian’s pain is the most potent form of pleasure.
“I feel the hardness of your nipples—how they ache to be licked and sucked. You want me to do that, Gabriella? You want me cover your nipples with my mouth and run my tongue over them? You want me to squeeze them between my teeth right before I suck them, baby?”
“Yes, Dorian,” I manage through a sob.
“And when I’m done teasing your nipples, you want me to run my tongue down…” Another jolt of electricity stings my sensitive flesh. “…down…down…until it meets that soft, sweet place that hurts you so bad? You want me to kiss it and make it better?”
I try to nod through the haze of lust and agony, but I can’t move. I can only feel him owning my body in the most delicious way.

Title: The Weight of Destiny
Author: Nyrae Dawn
Series: Misfits #1
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Category: Young Adult
Release Date: November 18, 2014
When “crazy” runs in your family and your namesake is known for walking into a river with a pocket full of rocks, a girl kind of wants to avoid tempting fate at all costs. For Virginia Nichols, the only way to dodge that bullet is to be perfect at everything: school, student council, life. Too bad it’s all a lie, and underneath the perfection...Virginia is lost.
Ryder Blackstock knows a thing or two about being born into fate. The talents passed down from his father aren't exactly normal; instead of learning how to throw a fastball, he was taught to hot-wire a car like a pro and pick any pocket in sight. He’s got criminal blood, just like his old man. And as soon as he turns eighteen, he’ll be living life on the run with his dad.
When Ryder and Virginia meet on the beach, it seems they couldn't be more different. Soon they discover they’re both trapped in their lives—Virginia denying her fate, Ryder embracing his. Like the rocks in Virginia Woolf’s pockets, the weight of their destinies will pull them under. But being together brings out pieces of themselves they didn't know existed—pieces that make them want to take fate into their own hands and rewrite their destinies...if it’s not too late.
Advanced praise for The Weight of Destiny. . .
"The Weight of Destiny unfolds like a storm. It is dark and electric and incredibly romantic. I lost and found myself. The characters are so vivid, so alive, you'll forget anything but them exists." ~ David James author of Between the Stars and Sky
"The Weight of Destiny is YA at its absolute finest. Nyrae Dawn flawlessly brought two seemingly broken characters to life and showed everyone deserves a second chance at love and life. This breathtaking storytelling will blow you away." ~ USA Today Bestselling Author Tiffany King
"The Weight of Destiny is art at its best, Ryder and Virginia canvasses on which the good and bad of life and love unfold in brilliant, true color." ~ Author Jamie Manning
“Do you ever feel like you’re destined for something no matter how hard you try to be?”
Oh, how I love the magic of first love, of discovery, of choices and of finding your way in the world; this is The Weight of Destiny in a nutshell. Both Virginia and Ryder believed they had certain roles to fill, their paths had already been mapped out and they couldn’t deviate from them. It took a chance meeting at a deserted beach to find each other and for them to discover that you can decide your own destiny.
The Misfits is a fresh and exciting, young adult series from Nyrae Dawn and I fell in love with each and every one of her characters. Their lives weren’t perfect nor were their behaviour, and it was due to this, I related to them. We’ve all been 17 or 18 ourselves, we made bad choices, we took risks and we did things we shouldn’t have but it’s part of this thing called life and I think Nyrae Dawn encapsulated it beautifully.
“She couldn’t concentrate before, I remind myself. Somehow, I’m doing something for her. Me. Ryder, the guy who has two strikes, is good at stealing, and whose brother hates him. But for her, I do something.”
I loved Virginia’s character, she struggled with her home life so in turn she focused on school and believed if she strived for perfection she would survive. It took her meeting Ryder Blackstock, a boy from the wrong side of town to show her that being free wasn’t about falling, it was about flying. I loved Viginia’s stories and the way they were intertwined with the story; Virginia had to learn about herself and the many labels she wore as well as her family. I thought this was executed very well and added another dimension to the story.
“There once was a girl named Destiny. She was the fastest runner in the world. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t outrun who she was. Then she met a boy. He said his name was also Destiny, and for the first time in her life, she didn’t feel like she was running alone.”
Ryder was never told he could be more, therefore he didn’t believe it. When Virginia came along, she didn’t want to change him, she just wanted him to realise the person he could be. I loved the close relationship Ryder had with his friends, proving you can choose your own family; blood isn’t always thicker than water. It was great to see the change in Ryder as well as the change in his relationship with his brother. Ryder didn’t change who he was as a person, but he believed in himself and wanted more out of life than what he was told he deserved.
“Why are you crying?”
“Because you’re better than you realize, Ryder Blackstock. It scares me as much as it sets me free.”
“It doesn’t feel like she’s telling me to choose –who I am or being with her –it feels like she’s letting me decide who I am. Like she’s giving me a chance to be that person. Like maybe she sees more in me than I ever have.”
Nyrae Dawn proves once again why she is one of my favourite authors, the writing was beautiful, the characters were multifaceted and I didn’t want to put this book down. I can’t wait to visit Virginia and Ryder again as their friends get a story, I feel almost protective of them and want to check in on them from time to time.
The Weight of Destiny is about growing up, experiencing life and finding love, in you other half as well as yourself.
“Write a story with me, Virginia.”
Finally, I breathe. “What?”
“I don’t know shit about writing, but write a story with me. Our story. Your story. Mine. Whatever. Let’s not be afraid to write our own. To decide who we want to be, who we already are.”
She chuckles softly and shakes her head.
“It’s just a different kind of strength. You are who you are, and you don’t care what people think. You don’t care that you’re sober at a party where everyone is drinking. You don’t give a shit if you’re the girl who leaves to do her homework, because it’s important to you.”
“Is it still strength if the reason behind it is fear?” She sounds like she’s drifting away, her voice getting softer and softer. I need to reel her back in, keep her close, so I roll to my side, lean my head into my hand and let my elbow prop me up. With my other hand, I brush her cheek with my thumb.
“I don’t know. You’re the smart one. Regardless, I know you’re strong.” Because I know she’s dealing with more than I’ve seen; I just don’t have a clear picture of what it is.
“We’re still different, though, so why me?”
Words get trapped in my throat. I can tell her it’s because of what I said—she’s beautiful and strong. I can tell her it’s because sometimes the loneliness in her eyes mirrors mine, only I didn’t know it was there before her. Maybe it’s to prove I won’t screw up with a girl like her the way Luke thinks I will. There are a million possibilities, not all of them good. The only thing that manages to come out is, “Because the weight isn’t as heavy when I’m with you.”
Her breath hitches. I let my fingers gently glide against her neck, her throat. When she speaks, I feel the words vibrate through my fingertips. It’s a crazy-wild feeling, and I want it to keep going, want to touch all her words.
“The weight of what?” she asks.
I don’t know… I shrug. “Of everything.”
But it’s not my words that settle into my chest. It’s hers. Virginia shakes her head and answers her own question. “Of destiny.”
She feels a special pull to characters in their teens. There’s something so fresh and fun about the age that she adores exploring. Her husband says it’s because she doesn’t want to grow up. She doesn’t think that’s such a bad thing. Luckily for her, he doesn’t either.
Nyrae gravitates toward character-driven stories. Whether reading or writing, she loves emotional journeys. It’s icing on the cake when she really feelssomething, but is able to laugh, too. She’s also a proud romantic at heart who has a soft spot for flawed characters. She loves people who aren’t perfect, who make mistakes but also have a big heart.
Nyrae resides in sunny Southern California with her husband (who still makes her swoon) and her two awesome kids.
When she’s not with her family, you can be pretty sure you’ll find her with a book in her hand or her laptop and an open document in front of her.
