Fervent is the 3rd book in the Condemned series by Gemma James. It picks up where Rampant ended. Things have gone from bad to worst for Alex and Rafe with both being kidnapped, and not knowing why.
I have to admit I was a little surprised when I found out that it wasn’t going to be the final book. As I was sure the way, the last book ended that Alex and Rafe had one last fight on their hands until they get their happy ever after.
It's not that I didn't enjoy this book because I did. I loved that it was still dark, intense, painful and twisted. It was another quick read that packed a punch, and once I started, I didn’t put it down. Loved the deep connection that Alex and Rafe have for each other, and with all that was happening their love for each other never waived.
“I’d die before leaving him to face this alone”
"That's what I love about you. I love you for your strength, because I have none. I love you for the way you make me feel, because I feel nothing when I'm not with you."
We do get a few new interesting twists, especially regarding those connected and involvement in Alex and Rafe’s kidnapping. We had insight into what happen to Rafe while in prison, and learn more about Jax.
Overall as I said I enjoy this installment, but I enjoyed the first two more. I was just slightly frustrated because I was originally expecting them to get their happy ever after, but obviously from the cliffhanger ending they still have a way to go. However, with that being said, I’m looking forward to reading the last book I can’t wait to see what Gemma has in store for us in the final episode of the Condemned series. I just wish I didn’t have to wait till August.
If you love this series, then you won’t want to miss this one. But if you haven't started, it I would maybe wait until August so that you can read all four books back to back. So that you can fully immerse yourself in this crazy, dark, angsty, twisted, edgy, violent and raw romance series.
*I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.*
I must admit, shortly before I started this book, I was convinced part three was the final instalment so it was a complete surprise to discover there was in fact going to be a fourth part. I did worry Fervent was going to be a “filler” and in some ways I felt it was. Perhaps because it was the calm before the storm or not as much happened in this book compared to the first two, whichever the reason, it didn’t evoke the crazy range of emotions this series previously has for me.
Rafe and Alex are up against a new unknown enemy and when all is revealed, they learn no one can be trusted. Alliances are tested and help is found in the unlikely of places. Through all of the craziness that goes down, Alex and Rafe’s love never falters and that appealed to the romantic in me!
It had been a while since I read the first two parts of the story so at times I was confused as I couldn’t recall Rafe’s treatment of Alex and what he could and couldn’t remember due to his memory loss, so there were a few blind spots in the story for me. But with that being said, if you are a fan of the series so far then you will want to continue on this crazy path.
I’m really hoping Gemma pulls it out of the bag for the final instalment and it’s just as crazy as the series is famous for.

“Will she pick her passion for dance –or me?”
*I received a copy in exchange for an honest reivew.*
Third Position is the final instalment to Annalise and Raphael’s dance, and I must say it was my favourite of the three. I enjoyed the change in Annalise’s character, gone were the rose tinted glasses and Annalise finally faced the truth and stood up for herself.
“If there’s one thing I’ve learned here in Rome, one thing Raphael showed me, it’s that there’s more. More life, more passion, more to dance than this lonely, cold world of the company.”
The main focus this time was on Annalise and what she wanted out of life, did she take the lead role in Swan Lake and pass her mother’s dream off as her own, or did she take a risk and follow her heart with Raphael? The drama kicked up a notch in this instalment and it worked well, I think part one and two were the calm before the storm and the final book is where it’s at. Annalise took fate into her own hands.
“I’ve danced in the shadows long enough. Now, it’s time to choose my own steps.”
Raphael isn’t Melody Grace’s swooniest boyfriend but he had a lot going for him, he was a sexy Italian dancer, need I say more? It was due to him that Annalise could be herself and have the courage to transform from a naïve, scared girl into a confident new adult.
“I used to think my destiny was set. I thought I knew for sure what I wanted. And then I met Raphael, and everything changed. Because he showed me I was more than I ever thought possible. That we’re more together.”
The Dirty Dancing serial is perfect for a quick, light read. It doesn’t differ greatly from the original version of the story but if you are a fan of movies such as Save the Last Dance then this ticks all the boxes.
If you have enjoyed this serial so far then Third Position is the icing on the cake.

Release Blitz - Abe (Ties of Steel #1) by MJ Fields ~ Ava and Derna's Reviews, Excerpt + iPad Mini Giveaway!
"I received a copy of this book in exchange for honest review*
Abe is the first book in the Ties Of steel series by MJ Field. This was the first book I have read by this author. I didn’t know what to expect, and now after finishing it, I have to say I’m a big fan of Abe.
Abraham ‘Abe’ O’Donnell CFO of Steel Inc was my favorite kind of man a dominant alpha!! He was hot, sexy, confident, possessive, demeaning, broody, fickle, but he was also a gentleman, who was sweet, kind, patient, tender and loving. He likes to be in control, and took care of what was his. He could be over the top at times, but I just loved him.
“The only problem was I liked this girl. I didn’t want to like”
Nikolette “Nikki” Bassett was the girl who Abe wanted to control, from the first time he heard her voice he had to have her. When Nikki meets, Abe she sees something that she likes, wants and sparks fly. Nikki’s last her relationship had left her with some trust issue and a little insecure, and so she is hesitant in starting a relationship with Abe. I liked her, but she was a little frustrating almost childish at times just because of the way she acted.
“The way he looked at me made me realize how badly I craved him”
“I wasn’t sure from one moment till the next if I wanted to fuck Miss Bassett or kick her ass”
The attraction, and chemistry, connection between Abe and Nikki was instant. They are both feeling things that they have not felt before. Their relationship is tense at times, as Abe has control issues. He likes to be in control in all areas of his life, and that mean Nikki too. Nikki finds this hard, which is understandable as she had not met anyone like Abe before, or been in that type of relationship that he was offering her. Times when he wants to get close, to protect her, to show her new possibilities, Nikki's issues means she push him away.
"You should have been willing to devote yourself to me. In this type of relationship my job is to set you free of mistrust and sexual restraints. Yours is to devote yourself to me fully accepting the pleasure I give and take from you"
Overall. I liked this book. It's told from Abe and Nikki’s pov. Do love the way Abe thinks. It was hot, sexy read at times, however the D/S element was a lot lower than expected, I think the author could have explore this area more. I like the way it ended, but did feel that the ending was a little rushed. The epilogue to me felt like another chapter, and that may have been because it was only a few weeks ahead. I like epilogues to be at least a year ahead. However, with that being said, a sneak peek from the next book in the series means that it’s not the last we have seen of Abe and Nikki.
If like me, you have a thing for hot sexy alphas then Abe is your Man., and just for him alone I would add this book to your TBR list.
*I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.*
Abe was a mixed read for me. I thought the beginning was really strong; I liked both characters and the premise of the story but I felt it lost its way in the middle.
Abe finally took a much-needed holiday from his high-pressured job; his plan was lots of surf, sea and sex, especially the latter. He quickly made friends with the neighbours and that is where he meets Nikolette. She’s on holiday with her friends and she lets Abe bring her out of her shell. That is until she gets cold feet and flees.
Abe returns home, miffed about the one that got away until he goes to the office and discovers, the reporter who is writing his interview is no other than… yeah you guessed it, Nikolette. From there, Nikki and Abe enter into a tumultuous relationship of sorts. It was around this time, my enjoyment started to wane. I felt the attraction between Abe and Nikki, but I didn’t feel their instalove. With the little time they spent together (not arguing) it was hard for me to believe they felt deeply for each other.
The Dominant/submissive storyline wasn’t mentioned in the synopsis and I felt it didn’t come natural to the characters. It felt forced and I thought more research was needed in order to make Abe and his dominant traits believable.
The story did have flashes of humour and those parts I really enjoyed. I felt those moments between Abe and Nikki where genuine.
“So, how will you introduce me?”
“My surf instructor,” I laughed
“Yes. One who wants to pull my hair and spank me.”
“You, my beautiful little budding nymphomaniac, are on punishment.”
“Pleasure from spanking?”
“You’ll see. Well maybe, if you could ever behave for more than the length of time I’m inside you.”
“Maybe that means you should spend more time inside me.”
Abe was the star of the show without a doubt and I did enjoy his sexy dialogue.
“Right now I want you naked,” he unclasped my bra with one hand.
“And after that I want to be so fucking deep inside you that you can’t think of anything else but trying to catch your breath.”
This was my first book by MJ Fields; it did take me a while to get into it, as I couldn’t tell who was speaking at some points in the story and had to reread a few scenes. Even then I still couldn’t work it out. With that being said, Abe was an easy read and I did like the sweet moments the couple shared.
“Goodnight, Abe O’Donnell, I love being loved by you.”
I did feel the ending left a lot to be desired, I felt like it ended mid scene and then cut to the epilogue, even with that I didn’t think we got much more. There is a teaser for the next book in the series but at this point I don’t think I’m inclined to read on.
Several other characters from the Men of Steel series pop up in this story, but Abe is a standalone, and if anything, it makes me want to discover the Steel stories.
If you like your Alpha’s demanding but with a sweet core then you must read Abe today.
As my feet touched the floor in front of the bed, I struggled to stand.
“Steady, sweetheart,” he held my waist as I looked up into his beautiful blue eyes. “That’s better.”
“You won’t be needing it for … a while.”
His arm snaked around my waist and he pulled me closer to him.
His lips met mine, but he didn’t kiss me, he just held them against mine. Only now did I notice the alcohol on his breath.
“Four,” he took in a deep breath through his teeth, “I’ve had a bit more to drink than I had promised myself I would have when you and I happened.”
I attempted to pull away from his embrace, but he grabbed the back of my head.
His lips covered mine and immediately I was lost. The heat began filling me again, my body hummed as his tongue sought entrance into my mouth. I gave it willingly. His tongue stroked up and down my own, causing me to whimper and him to groan as he ravaged my mouth.
His hands now moved back down my body and came to rest on my butt. He squeezed and pulled outward, spreading me. I grasped at his strong shoulders trying to steady myself, hold myself together.
My tongue began stroking his in long licks, tasting him as he had done to me. He tasted of crisp wine and something else, me. Never before had I been as turned on to the point that I needed more in a kiss, not like this.
I bravely let my hand slide down his arms and then lower. I held his hips and then allowed one hand to make its way lower and I took hold of his rock hard erection.
He immediately lifted me, forcing my hands to grab his shoulders again.
“I need to taste you again.”
“I need …. ”
“No talking, let me give you pleasure,” he lowered me to the bed and knelt before me.
He spread my legs wide and looked up at me. “Your pussy is absolutely stunning.”
I closed my eyes, embarrassed of being spread in front of him in the dimly lit room. His fingers spread me and his hum played to the most private and intimate part of my body.
“Look at me.”
He lifted my leg and bent my knee gently as he placed my foot on the bed so that it was beside me as he pushed the other leg to the side spreading me even more.
“Never seen anything so fucking beautiful,” he whispered as he rubbed his finger up and down my seam.
When he looked up, I knew he hadn’t intended on me hearing those words. For a brief moment, his self-confident, sexually charged gaze gave way to something more, and in one blink of my eyes his mouth covered my opening as he sucked harshly on my sensitive flesh.
“Ohhh … ”
He pulled away and looked up, “Watch me devour you, sweetheart.”
His tongue plunged deep inside of me and his hands gripped my thighs forcing them apart even more. I watched because he said so and I watched because I had never witnessed, felt, or encountered such a hungry, sexual man.
His mouth worked me into ecstasy and a state of orgasmic bliss. His tongue caressed and then dove deep into me. His lips sucked and tugged at mine. Then a finger pushed into me and curled up and then another entered, causing me to take in a deep breath.
I held his shoulders just like I was holding my breath, fearing I would scream and fall back. Fearing that I would break the contact our eyes made. I couldn’t look away if I wanted to. His eyes held mine captive as his finger pushed in further, curling, turning, touching every part deep inside. The sensation, the places he hit made me lose myself completely and fully. I fought, fearing another orgasm so soon would take my breath away.
“Let go,” he commanded.
With him, it was much more than pleasure. My breathing became erratic and my need to come was so — immediate. I couldn’t hold back or delay my release.
“Oh, god,” I screamed out as it burst, rippling throughout my entire body.
“That’s it,” his fingers continued torturing and pleasing me, “More. Give me more.”

Release Day Launch - Strangers for the Night (For The Night Series #1) by C.J. Fallowfield ~ Ava and Brittany's Review
*I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.*
The synopsis alone will make you want to read Logan Steele’s story. He is a male gigolo and the best at what he does. For a very hefty fee, he will make your wildest fantasies come true.
Book one is the story of Logan and Camilla, a very spoiled daddy’s girl who wants to experience a real man for the night. Logan is slick and very suave. As hard as Camilla tries, she can’t pull the wool over his eyes. Camilla has a plan to make Logan break his cardinal rule of no feelings and one night only. The way in which it was written, added a touch of humour and espionage to the story.
I liked Logan; he didn’t completely win me over, as he was quite aloof. There were tiny glimpses of the real man behind the escort and I do believe we will see more of that as the series continues.
This was my first book by C.J. Fallowfield, the story was easy to read and I liked the dual point of views. Both characters were written well, as Camilla had the annoying, whiny girl down pat. As this is an erotic novella, the sex was in abundance. To begin with it was hot, but as it went on (and on and on) I felt it less as there obviously wasn’t any feelings involved for Logan. He wanted in and out as quickly as possible, quite literally. I would read more of C.J.’s work, as I am definitely intrigued.
Strangers for The Night is novella one of eight. Each book will cover Logan and a different client. After discovering this, I did wonder if there would be romance in this series, I can’t help it but I crave the connection between two characters. In this book there is a hint of Logan’s real persona behind his ‘act’ and for some reason his next client has bewitched him. Perhaps the novellas have the intention of eight different sexy reads for individual enjoyment. I’m not sure, or perhaps someone will crop up that Logan wants more with. As it stands, I really want to read the second book in the series as I am intrigued by Summer, but if it was to then go on with no long lasting connection, I would be reluctant to continue.
This novella series is quick and hot, I think a lot of people will enjoy it and succumb to Logan’s charms. It is worth checking out.
After reading the synopsis for Strangers for the Night, I was intrigued! I think the premise for this entire series is fun, sexy, and I had high hopes that it would be very entertaining. And it was. Logan Steele is a high class gigolo, as stated in the blurb. He's extremely good at what he does, and has the reputation to back it up. But his services don't come cheap. For Camilla Domville, money is of no consequence, and she just has to have a taste of Logan. But she doesn't want to settle for just one night. She has some tricks up her sleeve, but, unfortunately for her, Logan isn't easily fooled.
Very early on in this book, it was obvious that Logan was cocky and arrogant, but a character that I was really looking forward to knowing, despite this. I was a bit surprised to see the author introduce the main character of the next book so early on, before we had even had a chance to meet Camilla. I have to say, though, it almost made me wish I was reading her story instead of Camilla's! Camilla is a girl who depends on her wealthy Daddy for everything, even when he doesn't know it. She hired Logan because she had heard amazing things about his "skill" and was bored with her sex life. Camilla was a character that I wasn't very fond of, something that shows how well she was written. She was spoiled, manipulative, and really just a whiny brat. This all came across very clearly while reading. I was happy to see her get a taste of her own medicine in the end.
As for Logan, there were aspects of his personality that bothered me a bit. While being intimate with Camilla, his mind was always somewhere else. Sometimes with a past girlfriend, sometimes with his next client, and sometimes on other inconsequential things. Despite him feeding Camilla all the right lines, I found his interaction with her to be impersonal. Although he did do well, considering how awful Camilla was, something that was no secret to him. Seeing how unsatisfied he was with his "work" made me a bit sad for him, and I was dying to know the history there. He definitely held back with his clients and I needed to know why. I think these things, however, are part of what makes him a complex character. I have no doubt that we'll slowly but surely be able to see Logan's development in future books. I'm excited to find out more about Logan's past (and his day job), as well as his hangups, as the series progresses.
Strangers for the Night was a highly enjoyable, quick read. It was very fast paced, to the point, and very sexy. I think you'll find it to be a fun way to pass a few hours. The sex was in abundance, being an erotic novella, and I honestly could have done without quite so much. But that's just me-- If you love a lot of steam, you should absolutely check it out. By the time I finished reading, I was really excited to pick up book two. I will definitely continue with this series.
The novellas in this series are told in alternating point-of-views; we'll get Logan's and that of his current client, as well. These books are written as standalones, but would be best enjoyed in proper order.
I write contemporary erotic romance with humour novels, which are emotional and full of drama! Writing aids include chocolate, Ben & Jerry’s and copious amounts of coffee, wine or cider.

Alex is your typical hotshot hockey player. He has a very large chip on his shoulder and believes the world owes him a favour. But as I began to read on, I discovered the real Alex and why he gave off that persona to the outside world. Alex has troubles that has plagued him for years, and it’s only after meeting Sutton, that he finds the strength to face his demons head on.
Sutton is the kind of female character I like to read about, she’s fiery and can stand up for herself. When Alex is assigned to help her with a new outreach program, Sutton is less than impressed. She can do without the rich, uninterested hockey player, but the more she learns about Alex, the more she discovers his image is a façade. And Sutton has to remind herself to keep it professional between them.
“I need to stop fantasizing about Alex and me naked, I practically shout to my vagina.”
I really enjoyed the banter between Sutton and Alex when they were starting out, it’s always fun to learn the dynamics of a couple and these two were no exception. Alex believes his past actions mean he doesn’t deserve any good things to happen to him and Sutton reassures him that everyone, including himself deserves a second chance.
“I’ve been a pr*ck far longer than I’ve been charming. You’re seeing a new side to me, but you know the old is bound to come out.”
“We all have days when our monsters come out, Alex. You’re not going to scare me off if I see yours.”
As always, Sawyer Bennett’s writing style never fails to capture my interest, I always find her stories easy to read and I am guaranteed an enjoyable story. Sutton really had Alex tied up in knots and she changed his perception of his life and how people seen him. She was just what he needed. And let’s face it, when a guy starts declaring his true feelings it makes us go all gooey.
“I stare at her a moment more, my heart giving that sweetly painful squeeze that comes more often than not when I’m looking at Sutton. She’s precariously close to becoming my everything.”
“She is the most important person in my life and always will be because she showed me that life is about overcoming struggles and opening yourself up to possibility. She brought colour into my otherwise gray existence and for that I owe her everything.”
I think as I had just previously read another book by Sawyer very close to this one, Alex felt almost tame in comparison. I know they were of two different romantic genres but I longed for the connection I felt in the first book between the two characters, to be felt amongst Alex and Sutton. The conflict was very mild in this book also, and I felt had we gotten a little more, it would have had a greater impact. Nonetheless, Alex was an easy read and many readers will devour it in one sitting. It has a sassy, independent girl and a hot hockey guy to swoon over.
“I’m not exactly sure what is happening here but I suppose an outsider would say I’m developing a relationship with someone. My first. Sadly, my only, and I hope I don’t screw it up.”
I went into this story believing it was an adult novel it definitely has that feel to it, I now see it is marketed as New Adult. I think the lines are beginning to blur between the two. Whichever category you would class it as, it is worth checking out.
If it were Sawyer’s writing that attracts you to this book, the hockey element or simply the hot guy on the cover, I have no doubt you will enjoy this story regardless.
USA Today Best-Selling author, Sawyer Bennett, is a snarky southern woman and reformed trial lawyer who decided to finally start putting on paper all of the stories that were floating in her head. She is married to a mobster (well, a market researcher) and they have two big, furry dogs who hog the bed. Sawyer would like to report she doesn’t have many weaknesses but can be bribed with a nominal amount of milk chocolate.

Fall was a little different from everything I have read before. This sci-fi novella was packed with action, humor, and a strong female lead.
After a tsunami that hits Braita's world, she is one of the chosen ones to go live in another planet. The Mian's are not the friendliest and these aliens want to use humans as their slaves. But Braita's actions when she arrives changes everything that was planned for her.
I really enjoyed this first installment in The Cold Mark Saga. Before this one I had read plenty of serials, but those were contemporary romances so this one was definitely different from the others.
For it being around 66 pages it did not feel short at all, which definitely surprised me. We are thrown along with Braita into this new world that is totally different from Earth and Joyal. It took me few pages to get the names of people right since they are so many new characters introduced almost at the same time at a fast pace.
The ending definitely left me with my jaw on the floor. I was not expecting the twist at the end at all. I wish Braita would've reacted a little different, but I can't wait to see what happens in the next installment! I know Scarlett Dawn is going to blow me away.
#1 Bestseller in Witches and Wizards Romance and award-winner, Scarlett Dawn is the author of the Forever Evermore new adult fantasy series, which include King Hall and King Cave. She lives in the Midwest, adores her music loud, and her fries covered in melted cheese.
Release Blitz - Torrent (Condemned #1) by Gemma James @CJMicheals80~ Triple Review, Top Ten Facts and Giveaway
* I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I am a huge fan of dark romance, so the synopsis for this book was what definitely pulled me in. I thought long and hard about what rating to give this book. For the first time, in probably ever, I finished a book feeling kind of dirty (lol!). When I turned that last page I had no idea what the hell did I just read and was I supposed to have liked it (all in a good way!!). Torrent is definitely twisted and dark, but most of all, completely messed up!
Teen Alex had a secret crush on her step-brother's best friend. Due to some crazy shit that went down, Alex points the finger at Rafe for a heinous crime he didn't commit. Fast forward eight years, Rafe is out for revenge. He has lost a big chunk of his life thanks to the lies Alex told. He wants her to pay and knows just how to do it.
Page after page, I kept telling myself how I shouldn't be liking where the story was heading. It felt wrong and every one of Rafe's actions left me with a bitter taste on my mouth (not literally, of course). This guy does the craziest things to Alex, all in the name of revenge. But in a weirdly, I-should-really-hate-you-but-I-don't kind of way I liked Rafe. I understood that his life was forever altered because of one girl's accusations.
Rafe doesn't know what Alex has been through and her motives for accusing him, so you can tell his hatred for her runs deep. I, of course, felt really bad for Alex because even though she did send him to prison eight years ago, the things she has been though because of someone she should trust are just awful! And on top of that having to deal with Rafe? Crazy! But I was also mad at her throughout the book. She could've put a stop to Rafe's plans of revenge if she would've just opened her mouth and told him why she did what she did.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. It was twisted, dark, and completely wrong. I applaud the author for invoking so many emotions from me while I read this book. I am definitely looking forward the next book and cannot wait to read it!!!
After reading the blurb for this book I just knew that I had to read it, it was my kind if thing. My co blogger read it before me, and was keen for me to read it so that we could discuss it, and after she had said” it was pretty good, but I feel like I shouldn't have liked it” well this just increase my excitement more!!
Well, she was right, it was good!! Really good, and like her I also felt that I shouldn’t have liked it as much as I did, and that due to the nature of the story it was wrong to like it as much as I did. I loved the storyline, it was, dark, twisted edgy, violent and raw, I loved the plot, character development, the hot sexy scenes!! I won’t say anything more about it as I don’t want to give anything away as I feel you really need to read it to understand.
Rafe Mason OMG!!!! What can I say about this sexy man? The more I read, the more I like him, I knew I should because of what he was doing to Alex, he was out for revenge, but I could help it, he has a way of getting under your skin. Oh! And once I discovered his UFC background, I was sold!!
I didn’t know how I felt about Alex. I felt sorry for her at times as one was to suffer like she did, and she has had a shitty life, but at the same time I was also angry at what she had done. However, by the end, I did feel for her. I love the relationship between Rafe and Alex, disturbing as it was, it was also hot sexy and emotional as their feeling for each other ran deep.
I really enjoyed this one; it just goes to show I have a thing for dark, twisted erotic romance. Once I started, I couldn’t stop reading because I had to know what was going to happen. After the cliffhanger ending, I was left with a wow!! And a emotional roller coaster of feelings. I can’t wait for the next one in the series Rampant!! I want that book NOW!!
This was the first book I had read by Gemma Jones, I felt that it was well written, and you feel the emotions, and the struggles of the characters. I will without doubt be reading more of her work, as she definitely knows how to dark romance with disturbing themes, that come with violent and explicit content, and hot sexual scenes. And if like me that is your thing, then I highly recommend that you one- click it today or at the very least add it to your TBR list. It’s a must read.
A question to Gemma… Will Jax be getting a story?? As I feel he seems slightly well more the slightly fucked- up and has one to tell.
“Rafe Mason was essentially the love of my life. I could lie to everyone else, but not to myself. Nothing he did would change that”
I wanted a fight I wanted her fingernail digging into me. I wanted her kicking and screaming and begging for mercy. I wanted her tears and her fucking pain”
“Now I’m black on the inside. I just don’t give a fuck anymore”
“I could deny it all I wanted, but our chemistry didn’t lie. There was something irresistible about her”
“He might have love me if things had turned out differently. If I hadn’t wrecked him”
“Too much of me still hated her…but too much of me still wanted her. How more messes up could I get
“I hated and loved him all at once, and my body was on the same page”
“I’m going to make you beg for it, gonna make you cry until you can’s breath for wanting me”
“What we shared was pure obsession, nothing more and nothing less, and it was sweetest madness in hell"
*I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.*
After reading the synopsis, I had to read this book. The theme of revenge intrigued me and with it being on the shorter side, I had to dive in.
Alex has suffered at the hands of her stepbrother Zach, for most of her life. After being forced to testify against her teenage crush, Rafe, Alex has reason to be fearful of his revenge after he’s released from prison. Rafe is out for blood after losing eight years of his life because of Alex, his plan is to make her pay like he did, but once he has Alex secluded on his island, the lines definitely begin to blur.
Before I go on, I must say Torrent is crazy! My mind tells me that every page is wrong, I shouldn’t be liking these characters and I certainly shouldn’t be accepting the situation, yet I find myself making excuses for Rafe and Alex and of course, I’m always looking for the HEA route. I don’t know who is more messed up, this book or me?!
Rafe’s treatment of Alex is abhorrent, yes he is fueled by revenge, but she didn’t deserve to be degraded the way she was. Mentally, Alex is already screwed up after years under Zach’s control, so Rafe’s treatment seems like a walk in the park in comparison. One minute I would hate Rafe and then the next, I would be feeling sorry for him. This book spun my head and made me question my morals!
For lovers of dark romance, Torrent will be right up your alley, it’s sinfully good. For me, I was looking for a deeper connection to the writing. I felt avenues were explored but then just dropped. A few key points were highlighted and I felt they would have had a greater impact had they been explored fully.
This was a really quick read, it ends with a twist and it does leave me wanting to read the second book. I really have no idea what will happen but of course, I’m rooting for Rafe and Alex even though I know I shouldn’t and I feel dirty for doing so, but that’s what happens in the crazy world of Torrent. Regardless of writing or characters, I’m not going to forget this book in a hurry.

Title: Final Call
Author: Emma Hart
Series: Call #2
Genre: Erotic Romance
Release Date: June 16, 20124
In the highly anticipated sequel to LATE CALL, Dayton and Aaron learn once more than not everything is as straightforward as it seems, and if they have any chance of getting their long-awaited happily-ever-after, they'll have to work for it...
We crashed and burned like a falling plane. Hard and fast with an inevitable explosion. Another few weeks together changed my life the way the first did. At twenty-four, I became naïve again. I became a dreamer again. A believer. And walking away hurts just as much as it did seven years ago.
But over doesn't have to mean over-at least in Aaron Stone's mind. His pursuit is relentless, his determination unwavering. He'll go to any lengths to keep me and prove that I belong to him. Unfortunately, love isn't easy, and whether or not I forgive him is irrelevant to his past catching up with us. Once again, our relationship is haunted by a secret, one that could destroy everything, and the secret is born from the need to protect the other...
But the tables have turned, because the secret is mine.
Final Call is the second and final book in the Call series and is the conclusion to Aaron and Dayton's story. It's is not a standalone and Late Call must be read first.
Final Call starts off around the time Late Call ended. Dayton is dealing with what she found out about Aaron in Late Call. She wants nothing to do with Aaron and it's just about to get back on the horse career-wise. But that's when Aaron appears back in her life. He wants to get her back at all costs.
I did enjoy the conclusion to Day and Aaron's story. I do think the "big" secret Dayton was hiding would not have had as big of an impact as it did if she would've just confided in Aaron.
I liked the secondary characters like Tyler, Aaron's cousin, and his twin sister, Tessa. They added a bit of humor to the story.
Dayton and Aaron's character did change a bit from the first book to this one. Dayton learns to give up some control and a softer, more vulnerable side of Aaron was showcased.
I did enjoy book one more than I did this one. The "big" secret was not as big as I thought it was going to be and I felt like a lot of the things that occurred throughout the story could've been solved if things were just discussed.
If you are looking for a quick, sexy read about a call girl, this series is for you!
“Call girls don’t fall in love . . . until they do.”
The conclusion to Dayton and Aaron’s story is finally here, Aaron kept a very big secret from Dayton at the end of the first book and their story begins amidst the fall out. Dayton is left feeling betrayed and quite rightly so but it isn’t long until Aaron makes his presence known and it’s clear that he won’t take no for an answer.
Dayton initially tries to stay strong but with their history, it’s inevitable for her to give in and give Aaron his last chance. Dayton is such a headstrong girl but it takes more strength to realise when it’s time to admit defeat.
“I shouldn’t. I shouldn’t miss him at all. But I do. I miss him the way I love him. Entirely.”
From the synopsis, I was expecting more from the storyline; I thought Dayton’s secret would be something we didn’t know about her already, therefore the main storyline didn’t have as much as an impact as what I was expecting, what it did do however, was showcase Aaron’s qualities. His softer, romantic side was revealed and he proved time and time again that there was nothing he wouldn’t do for Dayton. I liked the switch in their characters, Dayton had to learn to ease up on some of her control and put her future in Aaron’s hands for a change.
“Aaron pulls back and wipes them from my face. “Every time I kiss you, I taste the rest of my life. I won’t stop fighting for you until you taste yours, too.”
This instalment didn’t hold my interest as much as the first, I flew through the beginning of Dayton and Aaron’s story in Late Call, it was fun, edgy and entertaining. With Final Call, my attention did wane as I was looking for the action to pick up so I stopped and then re-started the story a few times, but I had invested the time and wanted to see how their story would end. With that being said, I have no doubt fans of the series will love the conclusion of Dayton and Aaron’s journey.
If you are fans of sexy romance about a call girl and a requirement-obsessed millionaire then you need to check out the call series.

Book Spotlight - Phenomenal X (Hard Knocks #1) by Michelle A. Valentine ~ Ava and Derna's Reviews, Excerpt and Playlist
Title: Phenomenal X
Series: Hard Knocks #1
Author: Michelle A. Velentine
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Category: New Adult/Adut
Release Date: April 22, 2014
Good Girl. Notorious Bad-Boy. One Phenomenal Love.
From the mean streets of Detroit rises the newest superstar of professional wrestling, Xavier Cold, better known as Phenomenal X. His muscular physique makes men cower before him and woman lose their minds with desire.
Anna Cortez is fresh out of college and naive to the harsh realities of the real world. Tired of living under the thumb of her conservative family, she defies them when she accepts a job as the assistant to wrestling’s most notorious bad-boy. Phenomenal X has an animalistic nature that even good girl Anna finds hard to resist. One night forced to share a bed in a sold-out hotel, lines blur between them and they quickly learn that one lustful night changes everything and neither one of them will ever be the same.
Working out, and fucking women: the two things that completely take my mind off everything. And they’re my two greatest addictions.
Well, if I’m being honest, I suppose that was true once, but not now. Being with Anna takes my mind off my shitty past too. That is, until she tries to bring it up.
I know she means well, but there’s no way she can fathom how fucked up things were for me. Her life with her domineering father is child’s play next to what I dealt with. At least her parents care enough to be involved in her life.
“One hundred and twelve,” I count out loud as I keep pumping in a steady rhythm up and down, and my eyes fixate on the corner of the nightstand as I get lost in the burn.
I was doing just fine with avoiding my past, until lately. Walking away from Anna is the best thing to do. She’s fucking with my head, making me want things I know I can’t have.
I’m not normal. No mind as fucked up as mine could ever have a shot at a normal relationship. It’s not fair to her to drag her into my world.
Maybe if I just fuck her--get it over with—we’d both be able to move on. I’m just afraid if I ever get a taste of that sweetness that I’ll be a fucking goner.
I know me. Once I become addicted I won’t be able to let go, and I’ll drag her down with me. She doesn’t deserve that. She deserves more.
She deserves so much better than me.
The goodness that pours out of her lights my world up like she’s a goddamn angel. She shouldn’t want anything to do with a demon like me because I’ll taint her. What she saw tonight will most definitely cause her to hate me. I should be glad that she no longer wants anything to do with me.
But, I can’t let her go.
Not that easily.
I’m too selfish to do the right thing and leave her alone.
“Have you ever felt a connection with someone without knowing them?
I love a fighter book, so I jumped at the chance to review Phenomenal X my first book by Michelle A. Valentine. I have heard good things about Michelle’s writing, and the Black Falcon series has been waiting on my Kindle for a while now, but I have feeling will now be bumped up my TBR list.
Phenomenal X is Anna Cortez & Xavier ‘x’ Cold’s story. Anna the good time girl who has left home in order to get away from her controlling father. X’s is a professional wrestling and hot bad boy. When theses two meets on a plane to Detroit, there is definitely an attraction. Xavier makes it clear he wants Anna, but her rejection something Xavier isn't use to, and, therefore, just gives him a reason to try harder.
“I glance at the empty seat next to possibly the most attractive, yet scary, man I’ve ever come in contact with and my heart does a thump”
The storyline was not too different from ones I have read before, bad sexy boy, innocent girl, but that being said I liked it. It’s not too high on the angst and drama. I do think more wrestling action would have added to the story, and I hope we get more in the next book.
Told from mainly Anna’s point of view however there is some of Xavier also thrown in, but for me it was not enough I want to know more of what this man was thinking. I’m greedy like that I always want equal amounts of both POV.
“Xavier Cold is one bad man I pray I get the chance to know”
Anna and Xavier both had some issues going on. Anna is sweet, but bit naive and slightly insecure at times. Xavier is sexy, with a cocky attitude; that he uses to mask his demons.
“There a darkness inside me that no one should have to experiences, and that’s what I’m trying to protect you from. No one should have to live with my demons but me”
I like their friendship/relationship, and how they got to know each other, both feeling things that they are not use too. Loved Xavier alpha side, but also his gentle side that he had and would sometimes show. The sexual tension between them was high, and so many times I found myself thinking just do it already. LOL
“And just like that I’m a goner. I’m in so much trouble. Lots and lots of trouble”
She’s not like any other woman I’ve met. The fact that she called me out on my shit confirms her realness, and that’s what I crave”
“Whatever this is, we’ll get through it together. Let me in. I want to know all of you- good and bad”
I did find myself tapping my kindle when it ended looking for missing pages, as rather than a big cliffhanger I felt it just seem to stop. And so ending like that it obvious that Anna & Xavier story is not over, and I hope the wait is not too long to find out how it all end to these two.
Overall I enjoyed Phenomenal X it was an easy read with some secondary characters that I liked such as Quinn, and a few I wanted to punch. I like Michelle’s writing style and I have a feeling I will enjoy her other books. If you like your sexy fighters than I would add this one to your TBR list, and meet Xavier.
"You're special to me, Anna, and I want to keep you forever,"
"This will not end well for either of us because I won't know how to let her go."
I am a huge fan of Michelle's Black Falcon series so I was just as eager to read something new from her. With Phenomenal X being set in the world of wrestling I was doubly intrigued. Anna Cortez is your typical doe eyed female lead; she is running from an overbearing father and an arranged marriage she wants to get out of. After a tomato juice disaster and some seat swapping on the aeroplane she is placed next to the one and only Phenomenal X, of course sheltered Anna has no idea just how big a celebrity he is and this is an instant turn on for X. A cat and mouse game ensues and even though they are opposites, X won't stop until he has Anna. Under the guise of "just friends" isn't ideal but he'll take it. Anna's cousin Quinn can't believe Anna has caught the interest of the world's hottest commodity, making Anna realise she has no idea what she has let herself in for.
"I hand the phone to Quinn. The knowing grin on her face only adds to the gnawing feeling in the pit of my stomach that Xavier Cold is about to be the tornado that flips my world upside down."
Xavier initiates Anna into his world of wrestling and ego matches in and out of the ring. Even though she knows she should resist, Anna gives in and smashes the just friends barrier between them, there is of course heartache, drama and double crossing to follow. Their future is left in the balance as an enemy of Xavier's messes with Anna and of course, X isn't going to stand by and take it. Their story will continue and it really can go in any direction.
There were many things I liked about this book but similarly there were a few things that just left me wanting more. I liked the whole set up of Anna meeting X on the plane and how they came to be, I also liked the wrestling element as this was something new to me, however it wasn't as prominent as I expected it to be in the story.
I believe Anna's innocence was meant to be endearing but to me it came across as frustrating, her naivety was a little grating at times and I really wanted to give her a shake. When X stepped out of line, I felt it was glossed over and because she had him on a pedestal, his behaviour was easily accepted.
The man himself in question, Xavier or Phenomenal X, had my feelings split. On one hand I loved his testosterone filled Alpha side, and when he was in protective mode over Anna, I had the butterflies going on.
"You just gave me the green light to end your fucking world."
"Looks like it's your lucky day, fucker. You should kiss the ground this angel walks on because she just saved your fucking life."
He was swoon worthy and it was clear that Anna was different from his usual conquest; she made him feel things that were foreign and scary at times. And for a big guy like X this was ironic.
"I smile. "Have you seen you? You make grown men shake in their boots with one look."
Xavier pushes a lock of hair back behind my ear. "That's funny."
I tilt my head. "Why?"
He stares into my eyes. "I don't feel very threatening when a five foot five girl scares the shit out of me."
"You're special to me, Anna, and I want to keep you forever," he whispers.
So you see, I loved sweet Xavier, I adored those scenes between them but I felt the spark missing from their relationship, it was a slow build to nurture their friendship first and foremost but I didn't quite understand where Xavier was coming from, was his attraction to Anna purely based on her turning him down? Because she was the first person to tell him no? I wish we had more from him to really get inside his head. The book was told in Anna's POV for the most part and Xavier got one or two chapters, it was split unevenly and it was something I missed. I felt the story could have been strengthened with more of Xavier.
With that been said, this was a very quick and easy read. Not a lot happened in terms of major drama, so I can only assume that will come in part two. I did feel like we were left hanging at the end, it seemed to end mid-scene and I was thinking 'is that it?' Perhaps the main rival needed a bigger presence throughout the story so it didn't seem like the main event just popped up in the last ten minutes.
Phenomenal X is a big departure from the Black Falcon series, fans of Michelle A. Valentine will love Xavier just as fiercely I don't doubt. I'm not all the way in love yet but I know given more time with X I could be.

When I found my boyfriend cheating on me, I did something stupid.
Or should I say, someone?
Because of that mistake, I’m now stuck in a world I don’t belong in.
I’m a law student. They’re criminals.
He’s the Vice President of a MC. I’m a good girl with a strict upbringing.
He’s my ex-boyfriend’s brother.
And I’m screwed.
When we first meet Faye, she's checking into a grungy hotel room, with little more than the clothes on her back. Staring at an uncertain future, she's trying to run from her troubles. Without much luck. What has her running away? Halfway through getting her law degree, dealing with a judgmental family, but with her future looking bright, she finds her longtime boyfriend cheating on her and everything goes downhill for her from there. Or so it seems.
But the life she's trying so hard to avoid quickly catches up to her, in the form of Dexter, or Dex, Black. her ex-boyfriend's brother. The man she had one wild night with after walking in on said ex-boyfriend cheating on her. Dex sweeps in and ushers her back to his club, determined to make things better for her. But life surrounded by bikers is quite the adjustment for Faye, and rightfully so. Dex is the vice president of a lock motorcycle club, the Wind Dragons. He's the "ultimate bad boy," tough, dangerous, but also loyal and fiercely protective.
Despite Faye trying to run away from her problems in the beginning, Faye was still a pretty strong character. She definitely didn't put up with her boyfriend's betrayal. She knows what she wants, what she deserves, and sticks to her guns. Although there are times when her actions and comments scream immaturity. But she does come into her own in her new world, and takes advantage of the freedom to be herself.
I did have a few issues with the book early on. The writing, at times, especially in the beginning, was rather choppy. Also, there was quite a bit of telling, rather than showing, which really makes it hard for me to get into a story. And, honestly, their first sex scene was rather disappointing. The blurb was what caught my attention initially, but the big revenge, the big mistake she makes WAS this scene, and it left me wanting much more. Then she's left wondering if she's just imagined a connection, and my thought was yes, you definitely did imagine it-- what connection?! I have to admit, after that point, I wasn't sure if I would end up enjoying this book after all, but I'm glad I stuck with it.
There turned out to be plenty of drama, and a bit of action. Dragon's Lair was a quick, entertaining read, that I finished in one day. I definitely wouldn't mind reading about some of the other MC members, and I'm looking forward to finding out if Chantal will expand on their stories. I will definitely be reading more from this author.
Chase is her debut novel, followed by Kade, Ryder, James and Maybe This Time.
She is currently working on a few other projects.
