When I think about romantic comedies I think about great movies like Pretty Woman and How to lose a guy in ten days. These movies I can watch over and over again without pause! These movies bring me joy and solace in a crazy un- romantic comedy world, so when I read LICKED I was seriously overjoyed and doing a rom-com cartwheel and happy clap because this book is so, SO perfect when it comes to what I want in a movie!
Oh wait… This a book?? Holy crap, I almost forgot, because it reads like one of the best romantic comedy movies EVER! BUT-- THIS is a book, a great muther effin book! Ry is this amazing woman who knows right from wrong, but she feels the indifference between two amazing men. Ok, so what would you do? The hot as hell construction worker? How would you act? Who would you pick? The Sweet as hell sex on a stick!? The hard hat phenom? This is the biggest conundrum ever! The choice is yours…. This book takes you to a place that you wished or hoped actually happened in your real life! It's amazing and perfect and everything that a romantic comedy should be. I'm so in love with this book! Brooke Blaine serves up rom-com perfection with this witty, get the memo, sexy as hell book! I'm sending a copy to all of my female hookers!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
When it comes to romantic comedies, I tend to be picky. Romance for me is a given. It’s a must. I crave it when I read. But add in the funny? It either is or it isn’t. Some rom coms try to hard, while others not at all. But Licked? It had everything I need in a romantic comedy! Not only was it funny. But it was witty, creative, and I was never bored. Brooke Blaine has easily mastered how to successfully execute a true romantic comedy. Ryleigh Phillips owns a successful ice creamery and bar. And not just an ordinary one. The names of these flavors of ice cream and drinks will have you giggling and laughing out loud. And often. While her career and business is booming, her love life isn’t. Until the night of her high school reunion once she comes in contact with her long time crush, Cameron Mathis. Through him, she also meets Hunter Morgan, who later becomes her contractor as she is doing renovations at her store. Suddenly Ryleigh finds herself falling. And not in the direction she expected. Before you go thinking, omg a love triangle. This is SO much more than that. While Ryleigh has her choice of two amazing men, this is not the average story. Brooke Blaine puts her own spin on things. I will not get too much into the plot, as the reader is to experience the story. But I will say I was #teamHunter the moment I met him. Not only is he hot, but he knows exactly what he wants. And Cameron? He was sweet and endearing and I could easily see how Ryleigh had crushed on him since high school! But as we get older, we change. And Ryleigh is no longer that quirky high school teenager. How does a girl choose between two amazing men? Or did her heart already know the one it’s always belonged to? I absolutely adored the writing style of Licked. The author effortlessly weaves a story that keeps the reader engaged from beginning to end. You are instantly placed within the pages and you want to be friends with the characters. You get to experience their highs and lows. I found that I wanted to be within Ryleigh’s group of friends. They were hilarious. I believe this not only shows the author’s talent in writing a story, but that also demonstrates her craftsmanship in strong character development. Licked was such a fun reading experience. It was lighthearted, swoony, and one of those reads that you smile while reading the entire time. The characters will have you laughing out loud. Not only is the story funny, but there are also some sexy times. I am so excited for what’s to come of this series and the characters. Brooke Blaine has definitely placed herself on my buy anything she writes shelf. I highly recommend Licked if you want a true and genuine romantic comedy that will remind you of what it means to truly fall in love.
New-to-me authors scare me. I'm a bit of a chicken and like to stick to things I know. Will I get their humour? Will their writing be easy to read? Will they pull off a great angsty break-up where you're just dying for them to get back together? Will the reunion be worth it? Well, I say to myself now, DON'T BE A CHICKEN SHIT! This book was GREAT! Brooke did not disappoint at all!
So we have the high school crush, Cameron, that Ryleigh has been in love for for years. Then there is his best friend, Hunter. Ones a white collar gentleman who says all the right things. The other is a blue collar hottie, simply irresistible in my opinion. Oh how to choose?! Even though the book isn't named "Licked" for their first intimate scene, it surely could have been. Wowie. That was HOT. When the clothes start coming off, holy shit hot chemistry happens. It takes a very admirable man to step down in the name of love. Which kind of makes you wish that this time, that love was for him. I think either way, you can't go wrong choosing Cameron or Hunter. But chemistry is chemistry, and that kind, is not the kind you can build over time. This story was full of cute, sweet and hot lines and loads a sugary treats. It has a great group of supporting characters, of whom I hope to get some more of in the future. Especially Quinn. She has me intrigued already! You can't write great friends without us wanting their story too. Or can you? :( And that will hopefully mean there will be more Ryleigh, Cameron and Hunter as well! Because as perfect as the ending was, I always need more.
“And then?”
I tugged at the edge of my apron in an attempt to avoid the three pairs of eyes staring bug-eyed at me. “And then he walked me to my car.” “And then you…?” Shayne asked. “Went home,” I said. “Wait a minute, can we talk about the fact that he made you sleep on his couch?” Paige’s eyebrows were raised up to practically her hairline. “I’m sorry, but in what fucking universe is that acceptable? Why didn’t you call Quinn to pick you up?” “He didn’t make me, geez. He passed out and it was late, and I thought maybe…you know. Morning sex.” Shayne cocked an eyebrow. “And did that happen?” “Well, no. Hunter made me coffee, and then Cameron woke up and…that’s it.” “Wait,” Quinn interrupted. “You slept in an apartment with two guys and both of them had you sleeping on the couch? Jesus, Ryleigh, it’s against man-code for that to happen. Did you wear a chastity belt last night or something?” I groaned, my head falling into my hands. Of course the girls would give me a hard time. I’d been talking up tackling Cameron at the reunion for weeks, so my body wasn’t the only one feeling let down. Still, I was seriously regretting inviting them over for a powwow at my shop during our off hours. “I think I need another shot of vodka in my Feisty Ho-bag now.” Paige pushed her glass stemware toward me, and I grabbed a liquor bottle from behind the bar and tipped some into her glass. Boozy shakes. They were the bread and butter of Licked during the brunch and evening hours, and the main reason for the expansion next door. I glanced at the black tarp hanging over the doorway that led to the space I’d bought a few months ago and sighed. Construction was running behind, and it was too late to hire another company if I wanted to keep the launch date set. And I had to keep the date set. “So are you seeing him again?” Shayne asked, dunking her cherry through the layers of baklava bits and whipped cream on top of her Nibble My Nuts shake. “I will totally get involved if I need to.” No doubt she’d be successful. She basically ran one of the top matchmaking companies in the city, not that you’d know it from her degrading pay scale. Her boss was a fucking nightmare, but Shayne was convinced she had to pay her dues. “I don’t need your expert skills this time, but thank you. He’s got my number, so…we’ll see.” “You can’t just wait around for a guy to call,” she said. “I’m not waiting. I’ve got all that”—I gestured to the ugly tarp that hid the mess behind it—“to deal with, so I’m actually quite busy at the moment.” The three of them gave each other “the look.” You know, the one that said, We’ve got to help our poor little friend get laid so she doesn’t end up gorging on the ice cream and boozy shakes she makes and be relegated to spinsterhood. “Guys,” I said, placing my hands on the counter as I stood in front of them. “I’m not on my way to spinsterhood. I just have priorities.” “I’m sure you could squeeze Cameron Mathis in,” Quinn said with a wink. “Get it? Squeeze him in…” “More like blow off the dust, grab a key, unlock that shit, and pray there are no bats,” Paige agreed. Oh for fuck’s sake. “All right, no more booze for either of you.”

You could say Brooke Blaine was a book-a-holic from the time she knew how to read; she used to tell her mother that curling up with one at 4 a.m. before elementary school was her ‘quiet time.’ Not much has changed except for the espresso I.V. pump she now carries around and the size of her onesie pajamas. Flash Point is Brooke’s debut solo novel, and she is the co-author of the erotic serial, A Desperate Man, with Ella Frank. The latter has scarred her conservative southern family for life, bless their hearts. Licked, a romantic comedy, will be released on November 11th, 2015. If you’d like to get in touch with her, she’s easy to find - just keep an ear out for the Rick Astley ringtone that’s dominated her cell phone for ten years.

Series: A Desperate Man: Volume Three Author: Ella Frank & Brooke Blaine Genre: Contemporary Erotic Romance Release Date: September 13, 2015 Cover Design: © By Hang Le A DESPERATE MAN Volume Three Ella Frank Brooke Blaine Sex. Addiction. Lies. One night changed everything. With the sins that stand between Evan and Reagan, can a relationship emerge from a past that is so broken? Or will the weight of their deceptions crush any hope of redemption? Excerpt “SO LET ME get this straight.” Dr. Glover lifted the end of his pen to his lips as his eyes narrowed on Evan over the top of his glasses. “The woman we’ve been discussing over the past few weeks finally shows you that she wants more, and you left her in an emotional heap in her office. Did I get that right?” Evan stretched his long legs out in front of him. She thinks I fucked a prostitute the day after I left her apartment, so, yeah, that’s about right. Sighing, he leaned back into the worn leather couch. “You left out the part about her being a liar. And not someone I met in the last few weeks. She had an agenda.” “So did you.” “And what the hell was that?” “You wanted to fuck her.” “Jesus, you get right to the point, don’t you?” “Well, that’s what you do. Isn’t it?” I thought it was until I became obsessed with a leggy fucking blonde. Evan glared at the man whose eyes he swore fucking twinkled. “Even if it is, what therapist talks like you do? I’m positive they don’t teach you that in Patient-Client Relations 101.” “I’ve always been a firm believer in no bullshit. I told you that the day you walked in and tried to lie to me. We aren’t going to make any progress if you don’t trust me and I don’t trust you.” “Yeah, yeah, I know. You’re just—” “Yes, Evan?” Evan waved him off. “Nothing. I guess I’m still trying to process the fact that Reagan is that little girl from so long ago. A whole fucking life ago. It’s… I don’t know,” he said, running his fingers through his hair in frustration. “It’s disconcerting. She knew me before.” “And that bothers you.” “Fuck yes, it bothers me. I was ten years old the last time I saw her. Innocent. And now I’m…this.” “You’re awfully hard on yourself. I wonder if you’re upset over what you’re saying or over Reagan thinking bad of you.” And there it was. The truth he didn’t want to admit. Reagan accusing him of being with anyone hours after he’d been with her had infuriated him. Which was ridiculous, because he knew what he was. The demons he’d been trying to fight. Why would she assume anything but the worst? But with that anger came embarrassment and shame. He hated that she’d seen him on that corner. Hated that she’d seen him with Layla. But how the fuck could he ever convince her otherwise? And why would he even want to? “She’s a liar,” he said. “And you’re a sex addict. Fantastic pairing.” Buy Links: A Desperate Man: Volume 3 Amazon: http://amzn.to/1D75aB2 iBooks: http://apple.co/1HWqhF4 Kobo: http://bit.ly/1LQlsBn Goodreads: http://bit.ly/1h0ZrTp A Desperate Man: The Complete Series Amazon: http://amzn.to/1LOGMpe iBooks: http://apple.co/1S9QRm6 Kobo: http://bit.ly/1MvYoI3 A Desperate Man: Volume 1 Amazon: http://amzn.to/1VIMbSt A Desperate Man: Volume 2 Amazon: http://amzn.to/1NdpAdD ************************************************************ About Brooke You could say Brooke Blaine was a book-a-holic from the time she knew how to read; she used to tell her mother that curling up with one at 4 a.m. before elementary school was her ‘quiet time.’ Not much has changed except for the espresso I.V. pump she now carries around and the size of her onesie pajamas. Title: Flash Point
Author: Brooke Blaine Genre: Romantic Suspense Release Date: July 12, 2015 Cover Design: © By Hang Le Goodreads Link: http://bit.ly/1FZIi4f ~Flash Point is a standalone novel~
flashpoint || (also flash point)
noun 1 a place, event, or time at which trouble, such as violence or anger, flares up: the flashpoint of the conflagration is just blocks away. 2 Chemistry the temperature at which a particular organic compound gives off sufficient vapor to ignite in air. The first time I saw her, I knew I’d have to kill her. It’s been five years since the brutal death of her mother, and Katherine Shaw still relives the nightmares of that night. She escaped. The danger should’ve been over. She couldn’t have been more wrong. When her father, a prominent judge, receives a chilling death threat, her past comes hurtling into her present. The warning is clear: They’ve got unfinished business, and they’re coming for her. Katherine Shaw. Rich girl? Check. Spoiled and obstinate? Check. A beautiful fireball who pushes every button he has? That was not listed on the dossier Jason Garrett receives when he’s assigned as one of her bodyguards. The last thing he ever expected was that his tempting client would prove to be more dangerous than those he’s protecting her from. Their attraction would be forbidden even under the best circumstances. But as the threat draws near, the tension between the two of them rises, culminating in an explosive flash point that will blindside them both.

Barnes & Noble Nook: http://bit.ly/1ULDQxR Apple iBooks: http://apple.co/1LYP4LD Kobo: http://bit.ly/1HvHIZO Excerpt from Flash Point © Brooke Blaine 2015 The wind whipped around them suddenly, a ferocious gust that caused Katherine’s long locks to go flying in every direction. She looked a bit like Medusa right then, hair thrashing about like snakes, hypnotic jade eyes blazing, and just as she lifted the hood of her jacket over her head, the wind died down. “Yeah, that just figures,” she muttered, as she put her hand inside the hood to smooth down her hair. Jason’s phone buzzed in his pocket, the caller ID reading Thompson. He answered before the second ring. “Sir.” “Just calling to check in with you, Garrett. I spoke with Kirkpatrick and went over the rundown on our end, and he gave me—” “Ow, shit, motherfucker—” A string of curses continued to fly from Katherine’s mouth, her arm caught in an awkward angle over her face. The bracelet on her wrist had hooked onto the jacket liner of her hood, and the more she tried to yank it free, the more it snagged. Thompson’s voice turned apprehensive. “Is everything okay over there? Is that Katherine—” “Yes, yes, she’s fine,” Jason said. “She doesn’t sound fine.” “Just a little…female issue.” “Female issue…? Ohhhh. I see. Well, good luck with that. Talk later.” Thompson hung up swiftly, and Jason shook his head. Wimp. Katherine stomped her foot as she continued to wrench her arm free, and he tried not to smirk at how ridiculous she looked. I should just leave her like that, he thought in amusement. “Are you gonna talk on the phone all night or are you gonna fucking help me sometime this century?” “Do you really want me to answer that?” he asked. “No, what I want right about now is a chainsaw to free myself and then stick up your ass.” He shoved the phone back in his pocket. “Sounds like foreplay.” She stopped struggling for a moment, and he tried not to notice the way her shirt had ridden up to display a few inches of her creamy skin. “Now the sense of humor comes out? Now?” Stepping forward, he grabbed her wrist with one hand and tried to get her bracelet free with the other, but it was lodged in tight. Her pulse beat rapidly under his thumb, and he stroked over it once before realizing what he’d done. A quiet gasp escaped Katherine’s lips. “Hold still,” he murmured, tightening his grip. “It might hurt.” With a quick snap, he ripped the hood away, a chunk of tattered material still clinging to the mangled jewelry. She pulled the bracelet off her arm and rubbed her wrist. “Thanks,” she said, a bit breathless. He nodded as he backed away, and she got the hint to keep moving and not mention it. They walked together in silence, for once, until a cluster of buildings came into view, and Katherine directed them toward it. When he saw her look over at him from the corner of his eye, he braced himself for the next round of questioning he knew was coming. “So…you never told me your first name,” she said. “No, I didn’t.” “Well, that’s rude. I thought we just had a moment there, Jason.” He stopped in his tracks, and she burst out in victorious laughter. How the hell did she know that? “And you thought I was unobservant.” She wore a smug look on her face. “I may be a lot of things, ruiner of jackets included, but give me a little credit here.” “Where did you hear that?” She shrugged. “It was a hunch. I’d referred to you as Jason Statham when I was talking to Steven at my father’s house, and I noticed you flinched when I said it. So, either you get that comparison a lot, or it was an involuntary reaction to hearing your name and trying not to react. Thank you for confirming my suspicions.” Well I’ll be damned. Not just a pretty face, are you? “Oh,” she said then, taking a step back. “Oh, no. That’s not…a tiny sliver of respect I see in your eyes, is it?” He grimaced. “No.” “Thank God,” she said with mock relief as she climbed the stairs to the main doors and stopped just outside them. “I couldn’t take it if you actually liked me.” He had nothing to say to that, too busy trying to see past the mask she wore that he’d only briefly thought about earlier. She was observant. I wonder what else she’s hiding… She turned around. “Can I ask you something?” “God knows you would anyway.” The Katherine that faced him now wore a serious expression, with no trace of the sarcastic woman he’d had to deal with the past few days. She cocked her head to the side as she studied his face. “Are you always this much of an asshole with your clients, or am I just lucky?” Before he could summon an answer, she reached for the door handle but then pulled away so he could enter first. She stayed beside him as she walked them to her class, and he knew she didn’t expect a response. After getting her settled and taking position against the wall nearby, he entertained her question. Two things he knew for sure: First, he was definitely an asshole. And second, under the current circumstances, he’d never refer to Katherine Shaw as lucky.
