Release Day! LICKED by Brooke Blaine (@BrookeBlaine1) + Reviews, Teasers, Excerpt, Book Trailer & Giveaway!
When I think about romantic comedies I think about great movies like Pretty Woman and How to lose a guy in ten days. These movies I can watch over and over again without pause! These movies bring me joy and solace in a crazy un- romantic comedy world, so when I read LICKED I was seriously overjoyed and doing a rom-com cartwheel and happy clap because this book is so, SO perfect when it comes to what I want in a movie!
Oh wait… This a book??
Holy crap, I almost forgot, because it reads like one of the best romantic comedy movies EVER!
BUT-- THIS is a book, a great muther effin book!
Ry is this amazing woman who knows right from wrong, but she feels the indifference between two amazing men.

The hard hat phenom?

It's amazing and perfect and everything that a romantic comedy should be.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
When it comes to romantic comedies, I tend to be picky. Romance for me is a given. It’s a must. I crave it when I read. But add in the funny? It either is or it isn’t. Some rom coms try to hard, while others not at all. But Licked? It had everything I need in a romantic comedy! Not only was it funny. But it was witty, creative, and I was never bored. Brooke Blaine has easily mastered how to successfully execute a true romantic comedy.
Ryleigh Phillips owns a successful ice creamery and bar. And not just an ordinary one. The names of these flavors of ice cream and drinks will have you giggling and laughing out loud. And often. While her career and business is booming, her love life isn’t. Until the night of her high school reunion once she comes in contact with her long time crush, Cameron Mathis. Through him, she also meets Hunter Morgan, who later becomes her contractor as she is doing renovations at her store. Suddenly Ryleigh finds herself falling. And not in the direction she expected.
Before you go thinking, omg a love triangle. This is SO much more than that. While Ryleigh has her choice of two amazing men, this is not the average story. Brooke Blaine puts her own spin on things. I will not get too much into the plot, as the reader is to experience the story. But I will say I was #teamHunter the moment I met him. Not only is he hot, but he knows exactly what he wants. And Cameron? He was sweet and endearing and I could easily see how Ryleigh had crushed on him since high school! But as we get older, we change. And Ryleigh is no longer that quirky high school teenager. How does a girl choose between two amazing men? Or did her heart already know the one it’s always belonged to?
I absolutely adored the writing style of Licked. The author effortlessly weaves a story that keeps the reader engaged from beginning to end. You are instantly placed within the pages and you want to be friends with the characters. You get to experience their highs and lows. I found that I wanted to be within Ryleigh’s group of friends. They were hilarious. I believe this not only shows the author’s talent in writing a story, but that also demonstrates her craftsmanship in strong character development.
Licked was such a fun reading experience. It was lighthearted, swoony, and one of those reads that you smile while reading the entire time. The characters will have you laughing out loud. Not only is the story funny, but there are also some sexy times. I am so excited for what’s to come of this series and the characters. Brooke Blaine has definitely placed herself on my buy anything she writes shelf. I highly recommend Licked if you want a true and genuine romantic comedy that will remind you of what it means to truly fall in love.
New-to-me authors scare me. I'm a bit of a chicken and like to stick to things I know. Will I get their humour? Will their writing be easy to read? Will they pull off a great angsty break-up where you're just dying for them to get back together? Will the reunion be worth it? Well, I say to myself now, DON'T BE A CHICKEN SHIT! This book was GREAT! Brooke did not disappoint at all!
So we have the high school crush, Cameron, that Ryleigh has been in love for for years. Then there is his best friend, Hunter. Ones a white collar gentleman who says all the right things. The other is a blue collar hottie, simply irresistible in my opinion. Oh how to choose?!
Even though the book isn't named "Licked" for their first intimate scene, it surely could have been. Wowie. That was HOT. When the clothes start coming off, holy shit hot chemistry happens.
It takes a very admirable man to step down in the name of love. Which kind of makes you wish that this time, that love was for him. I think either way, you can't go wrong choosing Cameron or Hunter. But chemistry is chemistry, and that kind, is not the kind you can build over time.
This story was full of cute, sweet and hot lines and loads a sugary treats. It has a great group of supporting characters, of whom I hope to get some more of in the future. Especially Quinn. She has me intrigued already! You can't write great friends without us wanting their story too. Or can you? :( And that will hopefully mean there will be more Ryleigh, Cameron and Hunter as well! Because as perfect as the ending was, I always need more.
I tugged at the edge of my apron in an attempt to avoid the three pairs of eyes staring bug-eyed at me. “And then he walked me to my car.”
“And then you…?” Shayne asked.
“Went home,” I said.
“Wait a minute, can we talk about the fact that he made you sleep on his couch?” Paige’s eyebrows were raised up to practically her hairline. “I’m sorry, but in what fucking universe is that acceptable? Why didn’t you call Quinn to pick you up?”
“He didn’t make me, geez. He passed out and it was late, and I thought maybe…you know. Morning sex.”
Shayne cocked an eyebrow. “And did that happen?”
“Well, no. Hunter made me coffee, and then Cameron woke up and…that’s it.”
“Wait,” Quinn interrupted. “You slept in an apartment with two guys and both of them had you sleeping on the couch? Jesus, Ryleigh, it’s against man-code for that to happen. Did you wear a chastity belt last night or something?”
I groaned, my head falling into my hands. Of course the girls would give me a hard time. I’d been talking up tackling Cameron at the reunion for weeks, so my body wasn’t the only one feeling let down.
Still, I was seriously regretting inviting them over for a powwow at my shop during our off hours.
“I think I need another shot of vodka in my Feisty Ho-bag now.” Paige pushed her glass stemware toward me, and I grabbed a liquor bottle from behind the bar and tipped some into her glass.
Boozy shakes. They were the bread and butter of Licked during the brunch and evening hours, and the main reason for the expansion next door. I glanced at the black tarp hanging over the doorway that led to the space I’d bought a few months ago and sighed. Construction was running behind, and it was too late to hire another company if I wanted to keep the launch date set.
And I had to keep the date set.
“So are you seeing him again?” Shayne asked, dunking her cherry through the layers of baklava bits and whipped cream on top of her Nibble My Nuts shake. “I will totally get involved if I need to.”
No doubt she’d be successful. She basically ran one of the top matchmaking companies in the city, not that you’d know it from her degrading pay scale. Her boss was a fucking nightmare, but Shayne was convinced she had to pay her dues.
“I don’t need your expert skills this time, but thank you. He’s got my number, so…we’ll see.”
“You can’t just wait around for a guy to call,” she said.
“I’m not waiting. I’ve got all that”—I gestured to the ugly tarp that hid the mess behind it—“to deal with, so I’m actually quite busy at the moment.”
The three of them gave each other “the look.” You know, the one that said, We’ve got to help our poor little friend get laid so she doesn’t end up gorging on the ice cream and boozy shakes she makes and be relegated to spinsterhood.
“Guys,” I said, placing my hands on the counter as I stood in front of them. “I’m not on my way to spinsterhood. I just have priorities.”
“I’m sure you could squeeze Cameron Mathis in,” Quinn said with a wink. “Get it? Squeeze him in…”
“More like blow off the dust, grab a key, unlock that shit, and pray there are no bats,” Paige agreed.
Oh for fuck’s sake. “All right, no more booze for either of you.”

You could say Brooke Blaine was a book-a-holic from the time she knew how to read; she used to tell her mother that curling up with one at 4 a.m. before elementary school was her ‘quiet time.’ Not much has changed except for the espresso I.V. pump she now carries around and the size of her onesie pajamas. Flash Point is Brooke’s debut solo novel, and she is the co-author of the erotic serial, A Desperate Man, with Ella Frank. The latter has scarred her conservative southern family for life, bless their hearts. Licked, a romantic comedy, will be released on November 11th, 2015. If you’d like to get in touch with her, she’s easy to find - just keep an ear out for the Rick Astley ringtone that’s dominated her cell phone for ten years.
Release Day Blitz: Temperance (The Arcanian Chronicles #1) by Ella Frank~Includes Excerpt & Giveaway
I had only had the pleasure of reading two books by Ella Frank prior to this. I've loved both, and have the rest on my TBR list, because I really enjoy her style of writing and her voice. I'm also a huge fan of fantasy, so, when I heard about Temperance, I was definitely intrigued. After reading the synopsis, however, I was concerned about how "easy" the book would be to follow. It seemed that Temperance would have a lot going on-- people, places, terminology to familiarize myself with-- but most books like this do. I was still really excited to start.
This story begins in the past, in Arcania, with our main character's mother, Maeve, and her own three siblings on their twenty-fifth birthday. Maeve, along with her brother and two sisters all play an integral role in Arcanian society, and, in reliving their past, we understand quite a bit more about their world by the time we meet Naeve and her three sisters-- on, you guessed it, their twenty-fifth birthday. And theirs is just as life-changing as their mother's.
Maeve and one of her sisters, Rhiannon, had been "removed" from Arcania, and have lived in North Carolina for the past twenty-five years, raising Maeve's four children-- with no memory of how or why they came to be there. Only their trust that the Hierophant (the most powerful being in their world) surely had a good reason to place them there eases their confusion. Slightly. There has to be more to it, they're adamant. And, at this point in the book, I was dying to know what that reason might be. I was anxious to find out what came of some characters that we're introduced to early on. Very quickly, you will be left with a million questions, eager to uncover the events that have led everyone to where they are, and wondering what comes next.
It's almost like experiencing two different stories. Maeve, and her siblings'-- along with her own love story with Lach'Lan (swoon)-- and Naeve's own adventure with her family. It was quite entertaining. The characters were fun, and their banter constantly brought a smile to my face. There's a plethora of supporting characters, so I found myself flipping backwards pretty often in the beginning to make sure I remembered everyone. I got names/roles mixed up a little at first, but that might just be me. However, each character had their own distinct and rich personality, and brought a lot to the story. Eventually, it wasn't so daunting.
Speaking of the many characters, Bastian was a someone that I very much enjoyed getting to know. He was a complex character with a difficult past (and future?), a quick temper, but still with a sense of humor. Kai was also a favorite! There are a lot of characters that are truly nothing like they originally seem.
I'm generally not a fan of books that give you more than two characters' points-of-view, especially not so quickly (I don't like to just get comfortable in a one character's mind, only to be abruptly switched to another's). That's not to say that the POV change was done poorly in this instance, it is just something that put me off a bit, personally, and I think it's worth mentioning. This, however, might not bother some readers, so don't let it discourage you from reading Temperance. I definitely enjoyed the story despite this.
I have to say, at about 28% or so, I began to feel a little... frustrated, although, that might be a harsh way to describe how I felt. Conflicted, maybe? I felt like, at that point, the story should have been progressing a bit more, yet... only about two days had passed. Two days! Yes, things were happening. Yes, I was into the story. But I was so ready to get on with things. This was actually true for about half of the book, sadly, and it was a good thing I was already super curious about how this story would (finally) unfold, because it might have bothered me even more otherwise. And just when things finally started to happen more quickly... it was over faster than I would have liked. I wanted more, in the best way.
Overall, I did really enjoy Temperance. The writing flowed beautifully. The premise of the story was interesting and entertaining, the characters captivating. And, in true Ella Frank fashion, the few sex scenes packed plenty of heat. I think it was a great jump into fantasy for this author. I'm only hoping that, now that a lot of the back story has been established, we are able to jump right into the action in the next installment. This world that Frank has created has a lot of potential, and can branch off into many different directions. I'll be excited to revisit these characters (Especially Kai! *swoon*) and see where their story leads! I was left with tons of questions and I can't wait to get the answers.
“Don’t. Make. A. Sound.”
The low, gravelly voice reverberated through her as she felt a tear escape the corner of her eye. The arm that was banded across her chest was full-on muscle as it easily held her in place against a body that was as impenetrable as a brick wall.
Naeve didn’t move a muscle, but she lowered her eyes the best she could and saw a black leather glove that went halfway up that thick forearm. As the hand on her right shoulder tightened, she grimaced and felt the tip of the knife press against her throat.
“Where is your other sister?”
Naeve remained silent, not sure she could even remember how to speak, and then she felt those fingers grip her shoulder harder as they spun her around and pulled her up close.
The sight that greeted her was like something from her worst nightmare.
She couldn’t have imagined ever feeling the terror she felt right then. For that reason alone, she’d never known that her response would be to become one hundred percent paralyzed.
As she stared up at the towering figure before her, she had to wonder if maybe she was already dead and he’d been sent to collect her. Cloaked from head to toe in nothing but black, he almost blended into the shadows except for the shiny blade he had pointed at her throat. She couldn’t make out a face behind the hood and mask, but all she continued to hope was that, if he planned to kill her, he’d do it fast.
I want to start off by saying something that probably won’t mean anything to you ladies in the book world. But THIS means something to me. When I first read the synopsis of this book I had no inkling that College football or sports journalism would play a part in it. And trust me when I say that it doesn’t consume the story. Like AT ALL. BUT….I now have a hugely different respect for the Author, Miss Erin Noelle than I did before. We get to see “jocks” and billionaires, and Country Rock Stars, and Motorcycle Club guys. But it is very seldom that we get to meet a badass chick who ACTUALLY knows her crap about sports. Not because Daddy instilled it into her brain, but because she has the pure unbridled passion of knowing about it. Because her desire for her passion overrides the cliché of “Girls liking sports”. Ok. I’m done, hahaha. Just had to get that out.
If you couldn’t tell already, I was in love with Bristol from the start. She has been through a horrific event when she was only 7 years old and she’s just looking for a way to get past that. So she decides to go on this adventure to St. Lucia to meet the wonderful people that have helped her along the way for the past three years. She has an online support group, and they have all chosen to meet at this place for an awakening of sorts. A sort of “healing” ranch in a tropical landscape.
Davis…………. Oh Davis. This man is angry and passive-aggressive and hurt, and broody, and SEXY, and EVERYTHING. He just hates life. And he’s also at this place which he has no desire to be. His story is different than Bristol’s. All of the co-inhabitants stories are different. But they have one thing in common. Loss. And it’s obviously a great human-hating loss that nobody can understand. And to be honest I’ve never felt loss this close to me personally so I had to really immerse myself into this story the best I could. And it was hard for me. As a reader I found myself pulling back as if I was the hurt one. I guess that makes it pretty freaking great because I was emotionally invested at this point.
I’m going to be honest. The first 60% of the book dragged a little for me. I’m not sure why. I really fell in love with both Davis and Bristol, but maybe I just wasn’t getting all of the extra side stuff going on. And that might be my own personal preferences. When I fall into place with the MC’s I tend to be a bitch about side characters. I just want THEM ONLY! But trust me, the side characters did not in any way take away from the story. In fact, towards the end they enhanced it. I’m just a finicky girl I guess.
I can tell you this. The final 40% of this book just about stole my heart and made me rethink my very own thoughts. Bristol and Davis are so unique and REAL. I really did end up loving this story. I actually liked it more as I was done reading it. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a great new adult read. I would actually recommend it to anyone in the adult romance genre. It’s a really cool book, with great writing. And the Author has some pretty smart wit thrown in there too.
*I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review
Let me be honest, I hated Javier in The Artist Trilogy. When I found out Karina was writing Javier's story I thought to myself how the hell was I going to read a book about a character that I hated so much. But if you know me, you know I'm a HUGE Karina Halle fan (maybe even a tad obsessed...) so of course I was going to read it anyways because I knew she was going to change my mind about Javier; I may have been a little scared about that. Let me tell you, she absolutely did! I fell fast, deeply, and irrevocably in love with Javier.
The thing is, he's still the Javier that I saw in TAT, ruthless, twisted, mean, sexy, and with a dirty mouth. Oh, his dirty, dirty mouth. As I was reading Dirty Angels, I kept asking myself Cam who? Why hadn't I seen Javier before. The man is almost perfect (in a cartel boss type of way, of coourse)!!! I will stop gushing about how much I loved Javier and how amizingly twisted he is because I could go on and on and ON about how much I loved him, but you have to see for yourselves. If you were like me and hated him in TAT, don't write this book off just yet, READ IT! Trust me, you will fall for him no matter how hard you will try not to.
The female main character of this book was one that I absolutely loved and admired. Luisa's family is very poor. Do the circumstances her family faces, she is forced to keep a job with a boss that she detests. So you can't blame the girl to say yes when the opportunity to marry a drug lord falls into her lap, not like she had a choice anyways. So this beauty queen marries one of the most disgusting characters that I had the pleasure (or is it displeasure?) of reading. The things Luisa faces at the hands of her new husband are repulsive and horrifying. He breaks her, but not completely. She is still strong, feisty, and doesn't back down from anyone (even Javier!). I seriously loved her.
The chemistry between Luisa and Javier is electrifying and a little twisted, but in a beautiful way if that makes any sense. They're perfect for each other. Luisa is the queen a king needs alongside him to rule his drug empire. Their relationship is not perfect and definitely not filled with chocolates and flowers. The circumstances in which they meet are not ideal and you would think Luisa would never fall for the fierce Javier.
I applaud Karina Halle for writing such an interesting, beautiful, and unique story full of hotness, and twists and turns. Not only do I absolutely love her writing, but I loved where she took the story. Javier is who he is, take him or leave him, he's not going to change his ways and I love that. Ok, so maybe he did soften up a little but it was mostly (like 99.9%) towards Luisa.
Thank you Karina for once again writing such an amazing story that will be hard to forget. And like always, I cannot wait to read what's next.....
“I have a lot of respect for beautiful things, you know. They are usually the most dangerous.”
The last time I read about Javier was in the The Artists Trilogy and I thought I loved him then. I was wrong, SO wrong. I love him more than I thought I would, he fits into this story so remarkably well, and he is everything that his character needs him to be if that makes any sense at all… This is such a sexy, dirty, filthy story filled with intrigue, danger, lust and some really hot dark stuff that normally would make me cringe, but instead I found myself captivated by the odd beauty behind it. I love every part of this book, and could not put it down!
This story grabbed me from the very beginning, Luisa is in a very precarious and dangerous situation and wants more than anything to be able to feel love and have a shot at a normal life and her loyalty to her parents and her desire to take care of them is the most important thing in her life. She is truly an unselfish person and makes her choices based on need rather than want. I was drawn to her character the whole time and truly pulled for her to evolve throughout the story, it was the most tragic and beautiful thing to see unfold throughout the pages and I was addicted.
When Luisa and Javier’s worlds come together it is such an unorthodox relationship and experience. Javier needs certain things from Luisa in order to keep his job and life afloat, and even though Luisa is still living under the scrutiny of her kept life she needs certain things from Javier. These two have some of the most unique and sexy chemistry that I’ve ever read. The way that Javier is so ruthless and evil at times doesn’t take away from the fact that he is hot as hell. His mouth is dirty and filthy and I just loved the way he spoke, not only Luisa but everyone. He held command in his voice and it was so deviously sexy you wouldn’t know rather to run to him or run to the hills.
This story has some crazy twist and turns that I didn’t see coming, and to be honest writing a non-spoiler review is normally easy for me! But not today, there is so much wickedly good stuff that goes on in this book and I’m just dying to vomit my words all over this page, but I won’t. I will say this; Javier did some things both good and bad that just blew my mind! He is hands down one of my favorite book people. So awesome.
Karina’s writing is stellar, and witty and smart and left me glued to each page, and her character development and growth are beyond wonderful. There are some side characters that I love as well. Not because they are some great lovely people, but because I actually found myself changing my mind about them which doesn’t happen very often. In the end this was an AMAZING read that I would recommend to everyone just based on the fact that it was so beautifully different. I know I keep saying how sexy it is, and I hate to repeat myself but HOLY CRAP it’s seriously one of the sexiest books out there, and that’s not just from the sex! Words are sexy, hands are sexy, items are sexy! I’m not sure how one turns violence, crime, guns, drugs, and some despicable characters into a hot sexy, deviant, and romantic thriller all at one time but Karina did it WELL, and by the time I reached the last page, I actually said WOW out loud to myself. I won’t forget this one for a while.
“I was reacting to the fact that I would never win. No matter what I did. I was reacting to the unfairness of it all, of my very existence.”
“You’re a very dirty man.”
“Filthy,” he corrected me. He smacked my ass lightly, causing me to jump. “Oh, that’s just fucking beautiful.”
He did it again and again, not enough to hurt but enough to sting. Each time, he licked the place where his handprint would have been. Then, with one hand he gently pried my ass cheeks open. I couldn’t help but cringe.
“You need to relax,” he whispered. “This won’t hurt. And I’m sure you took a bath this morning, didn’t you?” I murmured yes in response. “Then you’re clean and you have nothing to worry about. As for me, I’d take you anyway I can. It’s all exquisite to me.”
He was right. He was filthy.
“Relax, Luisa,” he said again. “Relax.”
And so I tried.
The first contact from his tongue made me shudder. The sensation was so entirely new to me, but what wasn’t at this point. Yet his mouth, lips, tongue, were all warm and wet and gentle and I found my body immediately relaxing into the steady motion. I pushed aside all thoughts about how impure this was. Purity had done nothing for me, anyway. It was better to be dirty. It was better to take what you could. It was better to embrace your lustful, needful, animalistic side because that was the side that lived.
With her USA Today Bestselling The Artists Trilogy published by Grand Central Publishing, numerous foreign publication deals, and self-publishing success with her Experiment in Terror series, Vancouver-born Karina Halle is a true example of the term "Hybrid Author." Though her books showcase her love of all things dark, sexy and edgy, she's a closet romantic at heart and strives to give her characters a HEA...whenever possible.
Karina holds a screenwriting degree from Vancouver Film School and a Bachelor of Journalism from TRU. Her travel writing, music reviews/interviews and photography have appeared in publications such as Consequence of Sound, Mxdwn and GoNomad Travel Guides. She currently lives on an island on the coast of British Columbia where she’s preparing for the zombie apocalypse with her fiance and rescue pup.
Karina is represented by Scott Waxman of the Waxman Leavell Literary Agency.

S. Walden is also hosting a Facebook event for the release week of LoveLines!
S.L. Jennings, Claire Contreras and Blakely Bennett will be stopping by to host prizes as well!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
LoveLines is an absolute brilliant and refreshing read. S. Walden is known for pushing the envelope and for thinking (or writing) outside the box. While this is a little different than her usual, this adult contemporary romance does not disappoint. It is captivating, fablous (yes fablous!), and I enjoyed every single minute of it.
Quiky, single, 31 year old Bailey Mitchell has OCD that she inherited from her father. Not the kind you think people have. Not the kind where people loosely say "Oh I have OCD". This disorder rules her life everyday. It is with her in everything she does. She works as a proofreader which is perfect for her. She arrives to work at 7:58 am exactly. Every day. She counts her steps to her desk, among other routine things. Every man she has been with ends up giving up on her because of her compulsions. Until Reece. He's different. Reece Powell is a new coworker of Bailey's. He is immediately drawn to her, even with her OCD.
"Dear God. She was luscious. Like those cherries on her shirt."
Unlike any other man in Bailey's life, Reece wants to understand Bailey's compulsions and how to help. He wants so badly to be part of her world. While Bailey is hesitant at first, she lets Reece in. Reece knew from the moment he saw Bailey in those red pants he could love her. And he did. With every fiber in his body. He loved her through all her compulsions, her tics, everything. When tragedy strikes, Reece learns that her tics are not so cute anymore. He understands how real they are and what he could be dealing with long term. So, what does he do? He loves her even harder. But, Bailey isn't so receptive to this.
"I wanted you. Always. And you wouldn't let me choose you."
Reece is unlike any hero in a story I've ever met. His beautiful soul shined through this entire story. I swooned over him. He made me laugh. His story made me tear up. He shows Bailey how easy it is to love. When it's the right person. Love? There's no time on that. It waits for no one. When you know, you know. And that's the type of person Reece is. He knew. And he went for it. Because that's what you do in life. In love.
"Her honesty reached down deep, grabbed hold of something within his heart that had never been touched by another woman. It frightened him for only a second"
Bailey and Reece are easily one of my favorite couples of 2014. S. Walden has a way of creating characters that find their way to your heart. They are unique and have flaws. But most of all genuine. LoveLines is no different. Bailey and Reece are such a beautiful, adorable, sexy couple. Them together scream chemistry on paper (or your e-reader :) )
"You're too easy to love. That's your real problem. You know how I know that? Because I can't stay away from you. I just wanna be with you all the time. You're my favorite person, Bailey. That's not hard. That's a cakewalk."
True love? Yeah that's Bailey and Reece. The kind of love that goes where love doesn't go. The love that pushes through any and everything. And it conquers all. Love always prevails. It always wins. LoveLines attests to that. This beautiful, funny, adorable story captured my heart from beginning to end.
“Thirty-one rocks. Thirty-one disastrous relationships. Thirty-one years lonely. Yeah. Thirty-one was shaping up to be my least favorite number.”
When I first started reading this book, I knew that Summer was trying a different angle with her characters and storyline. What I didn’t know was how blown away and entranced I would be by it all. I read so many books that they tend to all run together at times, so when I read one that is different it totally makes my day! Love Lines is witty, funny, romantic and so smartly written that it will make you believe that good, GREAT books still exist.
Summer’s characters are real, like REALLY real and that makes me so happy right down to my core. And these characters are insanely addicting by having the normality of people that are “my people” if that makes any sense. They can laugh at themselves, talk to themselves, and do both to each other effortlessly and equally and I’m just so smitten with Bailey and Reece. They make me smile and I could totally see this book played out in one of those quirky Woody Allen movies with awesome characters that exude deeper meaning by showing every ounce of their inner self on screen. I would watch that in a heartbeat!
Bailey Mitchell has OCD, and not the kind of OCD that your friend has who’s trying to make herself more interesting by saying she has OCD! Bailey has full blown, anxiety attacking, self-talking, pen-tapping, step-counting, number and time obsessive OCD. The kind you have to go to the doctor for. The type that makes people step away. The type that ruins relationships. The type that makes you realize that you need to treasure the people who love you for all of your faults, and can accept you while making fun of you while loving you wholeheartedly. The type that makes you believe that no relationship with any man filled with quality will sit at your doorstep, or make you his forever. The type that sucks for Bailey. This girl owns my heart, I loved Bailey so much! I really wish her OCD-Ass was my real friend!
And now we have Reece Powell, and I could care less if you’re not supposed to start a paragraph with “I” or “and” at this point, so don’t judge! BUT we do have Reece (like the candy) hehe, and he’s kinda super amazing. Reece grew up in foster homes, and has very little in the form of possessions, and Summer does a great thing with this later in the book! This guy is beyond cute, like BEYOND cute! From the moment he sees his rockabilly-looking, full-lipped, not-tryin-to-be-rockabilly girl---He’s done, and when I say done…I mean done. He wants her, and he wants her bad! He also picks up on her OCD rather quickly. He notices the time she comes in every day, the time she takes lunch, and the way she organizes her pens by color. He notices everything about Bailey. EVERYTHING. So is Reece OCD too? HA! Obviously no person can actually force a mental disorder on you. But there is one thing that can oversee all faults and logic and rational tendencies. That thing is love, the kind we all want but seldom get. And crazy as it sounds, I think Reece fell for Bailey regardless of anything that the future might hold. His heart was certain and his mind determined. Good GOD I love this book!
There are so many other great characters in this book as well. Erica is Bailey’s best friend, her and her husband Noah, know Bailey the best and they are her rocks. I loved Erica! We also get to meet Bailey’s Mom, Dad, and sister and their family dynamic is quite complex. Bailey’s father Sam has OCD as well and has always felt that her mother had resented Bailey for being so much like her father. This was so interesting to see how the growth of Bailey’s family changed throughout the book. I don’t usually get so invested in secondary characters, but I just loved Bailey’s father. Then we have Christopher who is friends with both Bailey and Reece, and he’s also their co-worker, and Camden who’s the douchbaggy friend that Bailey just loved immediately because of his douchbaggery! Especially when he says stuff like this:
“You figured me out Reece. I want to date your OCD coworker whom I’ve never met because I just loooove the idea of fucking a girl who counts the number of times she bounces up and down on my dick.”
All of these character were endearing in their own way, and had a great connection to the story that didn’t seem forced or like they were placed there for filler.
Reece and Bailey have such a great connection, and I just love how Bailey knows exactly what she wants. She doesn’t try and hide behind any crazy single girl stigma’s and she’s open to love. I just loved the way these two grew together and developed their relationship way beyond surface level, Their chemistry and bond felt so deep and true. They have to go through a couple tough obstacles together and some of the stuff that happened just pulled my heart out, but I knew it would be put back in its place, and it was! These two have some of the cutest banter I’ve ever read, and the way they talk to themselves is hysterical, both of them! This is Reece talking to his man part:
“Relax, bro. You’re cool. She can’t see your . . . oh, wait a minute. There it goes. It’s going down. Phew! Thank God. How embarrassing would that have been right? For her to see how much she turns me on? How much I can’t stop thinking about the kind of panties she wears under those cigarette pants. The way her tits look in her button-up tops. Man, I love how she buttons them all the way up . . . wait a minute. Hold up. I mean down! Go down! Stupid dick!
Soooo Funny… And then there’s the adorably sweet stuff like this:
“Well, you’re elegant, and I’m everyday, and I think we go together just fine.”
“You’re thirty-one, and you met me.”
I could honestly go on forever about this book but I won’t! Summer nailed it with this one, and I’m just some lucky girl who got to experience the wonderfulness that is LoveLines.

He flashed her a sexy grin and stepped right back into her space. âI donât want some chick. And youâre not that good at hiding your emotions, beautiful. You snapped on those nurses at lunch and ran out of my room so fast I barely had time to blink. Any particular reason why?â He trailed a finger down her cheek and over her lips. Instead of an answer, a whimper escaped her throat. A painful throbbing began between her thighs, intense and demanding.
His touch deepened the pain. Her policy was no dating people in her workplace. She certainly wasnât going to date Van Ransom. Heâd probably never taken a girl on a proper date in his life. But right now she didnât care about any of that. She just wanted him to take her up against the back of the barn, hard and fast. She was a country girl at heart after all.
âStella Jo, you going to answer? Or do I have torture it out of you?â
The way he said her name, the one she was used to hearing drop only from the lips of family members, made her shiver. She let her head loll back to rest on the wall behind her. âDo your worst. Iâve dealt with animals much bigger than you.â
Leaning in until his nose brushed hers, he let out a soft growl. âYou sure as hell better be talking about horses, because if youâre talking about Dr. Dickhead or any other man who's put his hands on you in a way you didnât want, theyâre fucking dead.â
She grinned and winked at him. âGuess thatâs for me to know, darlinâ.â Her breath was still coming too fast, but she was gaining confidence. She was having as much of an effect on him as he was on her. A competitive streak she thought sheâd buried rose to the surface. âSpeaking of men putting their hands on me, if this is your brand of torture, Iâm disappointed.â
Thrusting himself up against her, he growled again. âBaby, my brand of torture involves that riding crop you bent over to pick up. Matter of fact, it involves you being bent over also.â
An audible gasp of surprise escaped her. His threat pulled at something deep inside of her that she didnât know was there. Something dark and terrifying that she knew she should feel dirty and ashamed of. But she didnât. Because apparently he wasnât the only one who was twisted like that.
âSurprised?â he asked with a knowing look in his eyes.âThat you know what a riding crop is? Yeah.â She forced herself to smirk at him so he wouldn't see that she was a trembling mess of desire.

Ahhhhh Ronnie & Kale... The very first time I met these two was a while back, and I just fell in love with their sweet sexy story! And I don't normally have time for re-reads, so when the opportunity came up to re-read this book I was totally excited!
Ronnie is a hot female tattoo artist who has a spicy attitude, and a great snarky mouth on her, she's awesome! But she's also flawed, her ex pulled quite the number on her with his blatant infidelity and total disregard to hold himself accountable. So she's obviously super guarded towards men, and has no intentions of letting any man--anywhere near her heart, or in her head.
Kale is a totally hot Soldier on leave from his tour in Iraq and he wants nothing more than to get a memorial tattoo to pay tribute to his fallen brothers. What he didn't realize is that the "Ronnie" he made the appointment with isn't some burly old man, in fact she's not a man at all! Kale is instantly attracted to Ronnie, and the feeling is so obviously mutual even though Ronnie refuses to admit it.
This is where the sexy-sweet angst take you on a ride through these two finally deciding on an arrangement. The chemistry is off the charts hot, and there is no way in hell that Ronnie and Kale will be able to keep their hands from one another. So they agree-- Sex only, no mushy love crap, no flowers etc... Kale will go back to his men in Iraq and Ronnie will move on with her life like nothing ever happened.
And I'm sure you're thinking you've read this kind of story before, but you haven't. I've read so many books with the same themes and genres that they all start to look the same after a while. But this book was different for me, it was perfectly sweet where it needed to be, and perfectly hot and sassy as well. I Love when Authors can take something as common as romance and still make me want to turn the page.
This is honestly one of my favorite little gems that I would suggest to anyone. It's just one of those books that makes me smile.
Release Day Blitz: Girl in Love (Kylie Ryans #3) by Caisey Quinn, Excerpt, Book Trailer, Giveaway, and Stacy's Review.
The highly anticipated conclusion to the Kylie Ryans series is
Coming soon to iTunes and Kobo!
She's living her dream...
Kylie Ryans is the biggest thing to come out of Nashville since, well, since Trace Corbin. With a hit album and a powerful label behind her, she appears to be the girl who has it all.
But appearances can be deceiving.
Fresh out of rehab, Trace Corbin is ready to take on the world. Just not the girl he walked away from. Because if there's one thing he knows for certain, it's that the people you love are the ones who have the power to destroy you.
As their worlds collide, they'll have to make the ultimate choice. Follow their dreams, or give it all up for love.
They say love conquers all, but for Kylie and Trace, it just might wreck everything they've worked for.
âI donât want to be involved in anyoneâs game. Not his and not the labelâs. Thatâs how I started out, and Iâve put it behind me. My career is about me. Not about him and not about whatever the label wants to spin us as. He and I are nothing and itâs going to stay that way.â
âHe who?â Maude Lowenstein prompted. âIf your feelings for him arenât an issue, then how come you havenât said his name? Heâs not Voltemort, last I checked. Saying his name wonât conjure him out of thin air.â
Kylie resisted the urge to fold her arms and glare at the surprisingly sharp and callous woman in her late sixties. And to storm the hell out. She took a deep breath and shrugged.
âTrace. His name is Trace. And while I fully support his A Hand Up charity-thing, I have no interest in being involved in his benefit concert. Iâll donate a signed guitar or something. But Iâm not going to it. I wasnât even technically invited. We done here?â
She began to scoot out of the booth, but her manager reached out and put a hand on her arm.
âYou were invited, Kylie. Heâs having a hard time. The venue pulled out because of his rehab stay and so did some of his family-friendly sponsors. The eventâs been moved to his property in Macon and his sister called me personally and invited you.â
Heâs having a hard time.
The words wrapped around her heart and squeezed. Kylie swallowed and looked up at the ceiling. She sucked in a lungful of air and glanced from her agent to her manager.
âAll I have to do is show up?â
The other two people at her table exchanged glances and Chaz cleared his throat.
âUm, not exactly. The label was hoping you and Trace would sing The Other Side of Me. On the tailgate of some truck thatâs being donated to his charity.â
Kylieâs eyebrows shot up in surprise. âWhy do they want us to sing it at some benefit? I donât see how that would make any difference to them.â
âWe donât know for sure,â Maude answered. âBut if I had to make an educated guess, Iâd say theyâre playing with the idea of sending you two on tour together. Again.â

You know when you start reading a book, and you just kind of stay in that same uncomfortable position because youâre unsure if it will grab you? And then you have those types of books that make you stop everything youâre doing just to make sure youâre comfortable for the long haul because thereâs no way in hell youâre going stop reading. This is that book. THIS is that series! Ever since Girl with Guitar I have been 100% invested in this series, Iâm in love with these characters, and my heart ached for them to come full circle. This beautifully written conclusion to the Kylie Ryans Series will pull your heart 8 different ways, and at any given moment youâre unsure of just which way that is. But I will say this, my heart is whole & completely satisfied.
When we first met Kylie Ryans in Girl with Guitar she was a witty, feisty, full- of-life little spitfire with dreams bigger than the sun, and a heart open and willing to love. Kylie is hands down one of my favorite Book Girlfriends ever! She says it like she means it, but not in a bitchy way. Sheâs just modestly confident. And going through this journey with her was such a surreal thing as a reader. You actually get to see all of the facets of emotions she goes through and the growth and strength she continues to have regardless of the hurdles that are thrown her way. In this third book sheâs lost a little of herself, sheâs not the same she was before, and trust me you can feel it come through the pages. For those who have read the first two books, you know the reason for this is none other than Trace Corbin.
Trace Corbin Just about killed me in Girl on Tour. I was never mad at him though. It was more of a disappointed feeling more than anything. The fact that he didnât want Kylie by his side during his rehabilitation was just foolish pride I believe. I know he cared for her deeply, and that in his own mind, he was making the right decision for the both of them. And I find that admirable in him. This is why Girl in Love will pull at your heart. In Kylieâs head he didnât trust the relationship enough to have or want her by his side. She felt unloved, unappreciated and abandoned by Trace. Trace basically wanted to do right for himself so that he could be the kind of man Kylie deserved and needed. This is where everything gets all screwed up, and the true guts of the story will put a slow lingering burn inside of you throughout this whole book!
Caisey Quinn does an amazing job of fueling your heart with her love potion just a little at a time. Just the tiniest of drops here and there. Just enough to keep you wanting more. The build up and angst in this book is phenomenal, and to be honest I wouldnât want it any other way. I just want it to keep going forever and ever.
The whole time I was reading this book I just wanted Kylie and Trace to get their crap together straight away! But that would be boring and dumb I guess. Instead you get this heart wrenching, sweet & sour, head scratching-ly good story about love and forgiveness and acceptance. And itâs beautiful how it all comes together. I probably cried way too many times throughout this story, for both good and bad reasons. But that is probably because this series ending is so bittersweet for me. If you havenât read the series do it now! You wonât be sorry. The biggest surprise for me was the transformation Trace made. Which I ultimately think wasnât that big of a change. I believe the man he needed to be has always been inside him, and I truly think his biggest addiction will always be Kylie. Like I said before, so many people were mad at him after Girl on Tour. And after reading book #3 I think he is probably one of the most stan- up dudes I have read. It takes a lot for a man to do the ACTUAL right thing. And he does. And my heart is still swollen from this damn book! Just go read it!

*I received an ARC from the Authors for an honest review*
This book!! This book is THAT book, the book I actually couldn’t put down. It’s that good. Like I went to bed reading this book and didn’t go to sleep until 3am good! I am so happy that these two amazing Author’s decided to come together because they truly have started an immensely powerful new young adult series! You will fall in love with these characters and the amazing storylines that they all have. It’s truly one of the best books I’ve read this year. And definitely my number one book in this genre!
“This girl was his audible. The one who was about to change the play. Or maybe even the whole damn game.”
#TeamHayden, #TeamCoop, #TeamCami, #TeamEllaJane, #TeamKyle
You’re probably thinking uhmmmm there’s three guys and only two girls, how is this gonna work? Will there be a love triangle? Ha! Well obviously there’s some good juicy old fashioned angst in this book that really brings you to a land of butterflies in your tummy and first love’s. Each character is so different and unique that I felt myself falling for each of them at different moments. You have sweet Ella Jane Mason or EJ for short who you really can’t help but love, she has a great attitude about life and is independent and sweetly vulnerable at the same time. She will definitely have some burning love hurdles to jump over, and hopefully she’ll land the way I hope she does. Although with these two Author’s sneaky writing you never know, they might turn me!
Then you have Kyle Mason, who is EJ’s older brother. Coop, who is Kyle’s best friend as well as lifelong friend of EJ. And then there’s Hayden, who might seem like he’s spoiled and perfect but he’s not and his character grew on me big time. All 3 of these guys will own a piece of your heart after this book, I can promise you that! And then we have Cami, I really loved her. I believe that she will have a bad reputation due to the fact that she’s a spoiled beauty queen, but once you peel the layers back I truly believe she has a lot of good in her. She’s searching for something that I don’t think even she knows the outcome of. And I really can’t wait to see how her character develops throughout this series.
You get to see this story through the eyes of all the characters which I really loved. The writing is really smooth, and the transitions from scene to scene are seamless. Every time one chapter ended I was excited to see where the next chapter would take me. And the journey through these young people’s lives is worth every minute. I found a little piece of myself in every character, which made them all so relatable. I believe that all of us have good and bad in ourselves somewhere, and that’s why this book is so good! You get to see these amazing characters and their entirely different personalities shift and change throughout the story. Some moving forward and others moving backwards, or staying stagnant. Either way, it makes for a great read. There’s some drama near the end that will have you freaking, and gasping, and speculating your brains out! And I really CANNOT wait to see how this story plays out. This series will be amazing if the rest of it is any bit as good as the first and I have no doubts that it will be! C. Quinn & E. Lee did an unreal job!
“Fireworks went off around them as they both fell headfirst in love for the first time ever.”
Born and raised in the middle of a Midwestern cornfield (not literally, that would be weird), I’ve spent my entire life imagining stories. Stories where the right guy always gets the right girl, first kisses are as magical as they are on the big screen and anything is completely possible if you believe.
Although this journey began years ago, it recently took on a whole new life. After years of devouring hundreds of Romance, YA and New Adult novels, I had an epiphany... I should write a book. And I did it!
If I’m not reading, writing, enjoying drinks with my amazing group of girlfriends or chasing around a sarcastically funny kid, I’m probably watching television shows that were created for teenagers, while my husband teases that I’m too old to watch them.
