A few moments pass. Wind moves through the trees overhead making a soft hushing sound. While I haven’t seen her, it’s intimate somehow, knowing we’re here together in this dark space, secluded from the outside world. She’s curious by nature, as am I.
Clouds move over the moon, casting odd shadows, but as they move away, I realize she’s come out of hiding. She’s walked out into the small meadow where I sit. Not too far—only a few steps into the clearing. Now she’s exposed, facing me.
Her sitting position mirrors mine, and I can’t help another internal grin. I like this female. She’s bold. She’s a third my size, but I don’t intimidate her. I see she’s a cute little lynx. Their funny ears have always intrigued me.
Taking a deep breath, I allow my magic to fall away. In a matter of half-seconds, my shifter nature departs, and I’m sitting in my human form with my legs strategically bent to cover my nudity. I’m not modest, but I don’t want to appear overly aggressive.
As I watch, her small head shakes and she does the same thing. As her magic dissipates around her, I’m glad for my position. Blood floods my pelvis as the most beautiful female I’ve ever seen materializes before me
Her breasts are small and perky. Her hair hangs in long, dark waves around her toned shoulders. It’s like a glossy cape, and her body is pure muscle, with lines across her arms, abdomen, and legs. Instinctively, a growl rumbles through my throat. I want her.
“Who are you?” she asks, and I smile at the soft strength in her voice. “What are you doing here?”
Clearing my throat, I take control. I’m a loner, which makes me an alpha in my own right.
“My name is Koa. I’m traveling. Passing through. Who are you?”
I can’t help noticing the way her eyes blink slowly. I can almost see her back arch, feel the smooth skin of her body brushing the length of mine, catlike. For starters, she would touch my cheek with that perfect little nose. I wouldn’t stop her.
“Mercy,” she says softly. “My name is Mercy. I live here in Woodland Creek.”
“What is Woodland Creek?”
A small laugh whispers from her throat, distracting my eyes. They’re pulled down to her beautiful neck. I allow my gaze to trace her slim collarbone before dropping again to steal a glance at her breasts. My mouth actually waters.
“It’s the tiny, god-forsaken little hamlet you’ve found yourself skirting.”
She’s a beautiful, smart, cat-shifter female, and fuck, I want to end my dry spell with her now.
“What are you doing out here, Mercy?” The lust is thick in my voice. I can’t help it. It’s been so long since I’ve been with a female of any kind, much less a gorgeous shifter.
Apparently, she hears it because she stands and walks toward me. My insides clench at her movements. Her lined stomach is flat, and her hips are rounded and womanly, yet slim. My eyes move to the center of her legs, to her bare pussy.
“Hoping to find a little escape.” A purr is in her voice, and my muscles tense as anticipation builds.
I stand, and her eyes widen ever so slightly as I reach my full height. The top of her head is at the center of my chest, and my broad shoulders dwarf her. Not to mention my erection is pointed straight at her. No use hiding it.
“I could use a little escape myself.”
She blinks up at me, and her blue eyes are dewy. “What did you have in mind, panther?”
I’m pretty sure we’re on the same page, still it seems polite to ask. “May I have you?”
“Yes.” The word is a breath across her lips as she steps forward, sliding her palm across my tense stomach, teasing me as it travels lower.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Just when I thought Tia Louise couldn’t top the other books in the series, SHE DID! My heart was fully invested in this story from the very first word of the first page to the end. You are pulled in to the life of these characters. You want nothing more than to understand their past and see where their story leads them. One To Love added a lot of depth to the series. It is much more emotional, it goes deep. Putting this down was not an option.
“True love destroys fear. It covers sins. It’s stronger than any human emotion.”
Love. Love hurts. Love destroys. Love also heals. Kenny and Slayde have lived through this. Kendra (Kenny) Woods lost the only love of her life at such a young age. Life was not kind to her. Even with her son, she feels in a bit of a stand still. Her life is in a rut and she has no idea how to get out of it. Until Slayde Bennett. He becomes her light. Slayde, an ex-fighter has a dark past. He coasts through life as he truly doesn’t believe he is worth of anything good in life. Definitely not love. Until Kenny. While things between Slayde and Kenny begin to heat up, their relationship is rocked to the core as past and present collide. In a way no one ever thought possible.
“In a period of just a few weeks, she’d become the light in my otherwise bleak existence.”
Slayde and Kenny end up meeting through an unfortunate circumstance. But through that, they became forever connected just through that moment. One thing about life, you always end up where you belong. The chemistry between Slayde and Kenny is off the charts. Their build up of falling for each other was perfect. The emotions are raw. As mentioned before both have dark pasts. Pasts that dictate the individuals they are today. But this is no insta love story. Slayde and Kenny fall in love. Slowly. Deeply. Their love shatters anything you thought you knew about getting a second chance at love and life.
“You’re free from the pain you try to hold on to.”
One To Love is flawlessly written. The storyline is detailed and I could not put this one down! I was immediately drawn to Slayde Bennett. His real and genuine demeanor made me feel every emotion he was feeling. I felt his strong desire to love, but understood his guarded demeanor. His past was heartbreaking. And Kenny? She was such a fun character. Even with her past, you do not expect her to want to love again, but then you realize she loves harder than anyone else. Her love saves. It saves Slayde. Their love put their broken pieces back together.
“What she couldn’t know was the heart in her hand was mine. She’d hold it forever. I never wanted it back.”
Sometimes you find love when it’s least expected and in the darkest of places. Kenny and Slayde found that when their love was tested beyond what either would could have ever imagined. Their love didn’t know boundaries, it destroyed them. And even when it seemed impossible that their love could even surpass the huge blow to them, it did. The author is truly talented in allowing you to see the story through her character’s eyes. You simply do not read her stories, you crawl inside of them and live there. One To Love is no exception and I found it to be an amazing addition to this series.
The muscle in his jaw moved, and his voice was a throaty whisper. “Being with you is incredibly easy. Whether it’s a mistake, I guess we have to wait and see. I’d like to think it’s not.”
My body swayed with the movement of his thumbs over my breasts. “I want you to kiss me.”
In one swift movement, his mouth covered mine. An ache of longing moaned from my throat into his lips, and he pulled my bottom lip between his teeth. Wrapped in his arms, tight against his firm chest, heat sizzled under my skin.
He whispered over my lashes as he pressed his lips to my forehead, the scruff of his beard roughing my skin. “I’ve dreamed of holding you this way since that first night. I hated myself for it because you’d been hurt—”
“You kept me from being hurt.” My voice was breathless with desire.
His lips moved back to my cheek, down to my jaw. “You’re so beautiful standing here in the moonlight.”
Dropping to his knees, cool air flooded where the warmth of his body had been. Strong hands moved to my waist, one holding my side, the other flat against my lower back as full lips kissed my stomach through the damp shirt. His mouth moved to my hip, and I felt my legs start to tremble.
“Slayde,” I whispered, barely staying on my feet. It had been so long since I’d been touched this way, I wasn’t sure how much I could bear.

“What have you done?” His voice is full of warmth as he watches me from the sofa.
“Since you’ve been working too hard—”
“Since you’ve been working too hard,” I repeat, “I decided to recreate our relaxing spa vacation in the desert.”
Placing the tray on the coffee table, I hand him his flute and lift mine. “To family restrooms.”
He laughs and clinks back. “To the gorgeous woman who drives me to crazy extremes.”
We sip and I crawl forward on the couch to kiss him and tell him again. “I love you.”
He leans forward, placing his flute, the tray, my flute, all of it on the coffee table. Then his hands move through the open robe to pull me onto his lap in a straddle, facing him. Just that fast, his mouth is on my neck, nibbling and kissing. My eyes are closed, and I’m powerless.
“I love you more,” he says beside my ear with a deep inhale. “You smell so good.”
Threading my fingers in his hair, I kiss his temple. “I wore the red lace…”
A rumble of approval, and his lips touch that spot behind my ear, a light scruff against my skin, sending shivers flying down my legs.
“My favorite.” His voice is thick as I pull his cheeks, reuniting our mouths.
For a moment, we make out like teenagers, hot and breathless, tongues entwining. He holds me against his bare chest, my elbows are bent, and my palms are on his cheeks. His mouth is like some rich, decadent chocolate I can never get enough of tasting. As we kiss, I feel him relax, and my hands slide behind his neck, my lips travel up to his brow. He hugs me against his torso and doesn’t move. Neither do I.
This big, strong man saved me twice. If comfort is what he needs, I’m here to give it to him. I’m here to give him anything. After a few more breaths, his arms relax. I lean back and study his face a moment. The robe has dropped around my shoulders, so I’m basically sitting nude on his lap, but I don’t care.
“Hungry?” I reach for the sandwich plate and hold it between us, right at our chins. “You probably won’t think it’s as good as Central Grocery, but I think it’s delicious.”
His blue eyes take me in before he bites. “Mmm…” is all I get.
Giggling, I lean forward and take a bite myself. The tangy, savory flavor of olives and smoky provolone fills my mouth.
“Delicious!” My voice is muffled.
His smile glows as he watches me, his voice full of love. “How’s the baby?”
Lowering the sandwich to the plate, I turn and put it on the side table again. “I can’t feel a thing, but the doctor said he’s doing great.”
My last checkup was a week ago, and we both agreed unless something unusual occurred, Derek could miss the routine exams. So far everything has been by the book.
“So he’s a boy now?” I love his grin at the prospect of a little son.
Shrugging, I acquiesce. “Maybe… it’s too soon to know.”
His attention moves from my face to my abdomen. Large hands span my bare stomach before he leans forward and kisses me right below my sternum, right at the top of my belly.
“I love you,” he whispers to the little bean growing there.
I’m certain my heart melts in that instant, and I catch his face again to cover it with kisses. He’s right with me, lifting me in his arms and carrying me to the master suite. A California king-sized bed fills the space, and he spreads me out on the soft mattress, lying on his side next to me.
I trail my fingers lightly over his brow, to his temple, following a line to his strong jaw. He looks at me like I’m the most fragile thing in his bed—another detail he knows isn’t true.
We don’t disturb the moment, though. The truth might be that both of us are strong as iron, tough as flint, but holding each other, we know how precious it is that we’re here, together.
The randomness of chance keeps us both in awe, and for that, we treasure these moments. After working so hard, our reunions are the sweetest bliss. He holds me, and I feel very needed and extremely sexy. This man is like water in the desert to me, and it isn’t hard to see the feeling is mutual.
“I’m sorry I interrupted dinner.” Leaning forward, he nibbles the skin at my neck, and a surge rises between my legs. “Can you wait?”
My voice is thick as I answer. “I guess so…”
