As I lay there, trying to swallow a loud, obnoxious yawn, I remembered something he’d said when we first met, about life being too short. I imagined he had firsthand experience with shortened lives while he was serving. That mentality came from experience. I got that now. Could even understand it, but there was something I didn’t understand.
“Why?” I asked.
There was a beat. “Why what?”
Jax sounded tired, and I should shut up or point out that I was now tired and could sleep, so he could leave. But I didn’t. “Why are you here? You don’t know me and . . .” I trailed off, because there really wasn’t anything left to say.
A minute went by, and he hadn’t answered my question, and then I think another minute ticked on, and I was okay with him not answering because maybe he didn’t even know. Or maybe he was just bored and that was why he was here.
But then he moved.
Jax pressed against my back, and the next breath I took got stuck in my throat. My eyes shot open. The sheet and blanket were between us, but they felt like nothing.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
“Getting comfortable.” He dropped an arm over my waist, and my entire body jerked against his. “It’s time to sleep I think.”
“You can’t sleep when you talk,” he remarked.
“You don’t need to be all up on me,” I pointed out.
His answering chuckle stirred the hair along the back of my neck. “Honey, I’m not all up on you.”
I freaking begged to differ on that point. I started to wiggle away, but the arm around my waist tightened, holding me in place.
“You’re not going anywhere,” he announced casually, as if he wasn’t holding me prisoner in the bed.
Okay. The whole prisoner thing might be melodramatic, but he wasn’t letting me up. Not when he was getting all kinds of comfy behind me.
Oh my God, this was spooning. Total spooning. I was spooning with an honorary member of the Hot Guy Brigade. Did I wake up in a parallel universe?
“Sleep,” he demanded, as if the one word carried that much power. “Go to sleep, Calla.” This time his voice was softer, quieter.
“Yeah, it doesn’t work that way, Jax. You have a nice voice, but it doesn’t hold the power to make me sleep on your command.”
I rolled my eyes, but the most ridiculous thing ever was the fact that after a couple of minutes, my eyes stayed shut. I . . . I actually settled in against him. With his front pressed to my back, his long legs cradling mine, and his arm snug around my waist, I actually did feel safe. More than that, I felt something else—something I hadn’t felt in years.
I felt cared for . . . cherished.
Which was the epitome of dumb, because I barely knew him, but feeling that, recognizing what the warm, buzzing feeling was, I fell right asleep.

Two is always better than one.
Knowing a fighter’s desires and needs are one thing, but actually experiencing them is another. A Fighter’s Desire gives you not one, but two stories full of hardcore passion, angst, and action that’ll leave you breathless and aching for more.

They loved a good fight, and that’s exactly what they got when they met Ashleigh Warren. The brothers had a habit of sharing things—including women—and she happened to be the only one they truly craved. However, the problem was getting her to agree to their proposition. It was one she couldn’t refuse, but she knew it wouldn’t be easy to win. Nonetheless, she sure as hell was going to enjoy it.
Part Two: Fighting temptation isn’t easy when you’re constantly around the one person you’ve desired more than any other. Gabriella Reynolds was warned by her brother, MMA Heavyweight Champion Matt Reynolds, to stay away from his friends; they only wanted one thing, and in the end they’d break her heart. She heard it, but the desire to have the one man she couldn’t led her down the forbidden path to pursue him; he also happens to be one of her brother’s best friends. Tyler Rushing can’t deny his attraction to her, and he’s afraid she’ll want more than what he can give her. When he finds out that’s not the case … everything changes. This unbelievable, breathtaking book has captured my heart. I am now forever a fan of this author. Every single word on every page was carefully thought out to be one of the most beautiful stories I’ve ever read. Blythe McGuire stopped living four years ago when her parents died. As a senior in college, she goes to class and then home. The same cycle continues daily. When Chris Shepherd comes into her life, Blythe begins to learn to breathe again. She sees that life can be worth living. As Blythe starts to live again, she sees that Chris is the one drowning, and saving him will not be as easy.
Where do I even begin to explain in words how I felt about this book? It made me believe in reading again. Reading this book was a journey that I never wanted to end. I felt a part of this book as I read every single page. The supporting characters were amazing. They added so much depth and importance to Blythe and Chris’ family.
I laughed. I swooned. I cried. Happy tears. Sad tears. The connection between Chris and Blythe is deep. It is undeniable and electric. The story takes you down a path you never saw coming. It’s like a random train that hits you out of nowhere! And I mean this in the best way possible! The story makes you question faith, beliefs, and destiny. You will witness true, undeniable, deep love between two individuals.
No review can do this book justice. None. I am kicking myself for waiting so long to read it. It deserves way more than the 5 stars I can give it. It is definitely my number one book of the year, and I have read nearly a hundred! It’s only August! No other book, in my opinion can do what Jessica Park accomplished. She took the most tortured characters I’ve ever read and turned it into something beautiful. True love always wins; it always prevails. This story is proof of that.
Jessica is the author of LEFT DROWNING, the New York Times bestselling FLAT-OUT LOVE (and the companion piece FLAT-OUT MATT), and RELATIVELY FAMOUS. She lives in New Hampshire where she spends an obscene amount time thinking about rocker boys and their guitars, complex caffeinated beverages, and tropical vacations. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book. Wow. I don't even know how to feel. I am emotionally overwhelmed. And I mean that in the best way possible. This was like any other NA book I've ever read. The story, it's characters. Captivating. It holds you from the page and doesn't let go until the end. And then. You're left reeling. What was it that I just read? How can something so tragic be so beautiful? Well, it was.
“Why do you put up with me?”
“Because there’s nothing else I’d rather do.”
Amy has never been touched. Much less, by a man. The human touch is completely foreign to her. That is just the way she was raised. Making friends? Not too important as getting straight A's. She's gone this long without wanting to be touched. Until Dane. She meets him one random day and she finds herself craving the human touch in ways she never thought possible. But Dane also has a past. He is homeless. Has been since a young teen. And he wants Amy. He doesn't feel good enough for her, yet he is compelled to be the man he knows she deserves. As these two lives cross paths. Nothing is the same. Their lives are forever changed.
"She was his forever. Love meant accepting him however he came to her, with pleasure or with win. With buoyant smiles or dark, jagged secrets"
Your heart completely goes out to Amy and Dane. Because of their different life circumstances, neither one know love or emotions. Or how it feels to be needed by another. Until they meet. Their connection is felt from the very first page. You feel their fear, the want to avoid, and yet their yearning. These characters are real. Raw. Genuine. They are not perfect. And I loved them anyway. Love often goes where it is unheard of. It goes where there is darkness. The love between Amy and Dane went there. It saved them. From their selves. From the monotony of life that they lived. They learned that not only are they capable of love, but they deserve love too. They deserve to love and be loved despite what life handed them.
I enjoyed the writing style of this story. It grabs you and doesn't let you go. I literally felt like I was in a book coma by the end. I didn't want to let go of the characters who's world I was engrossed in. Giving away the complete story line would do the reader an injustice, so I won't go there. What I can and will say is that How To Say Goodbye goes where NA doesn't always go. It's painful, yet beautiful. Your heart is completely torn for two beautifully broken individuals. While this is a completed story, I am hoping that the author decides to expand on Amy and Dane. Their love is so deep. This NA has a realness factor. I think that is why I felt so emotionally attached to it. I recommend this to any fan of the NA genre looking for characters that will break your heart, yet make you fall in love with at the same time.
He smiled with the barest hint of irony. “Guess you have better things to do than build a sand castle.”
She hated how his words echoed her thoughts, how they put him down. Didn’t he know how much she would give to be like him? Relaxed. Confident. God, she didn’t want to be afraid anymore.
“I’ve got time.”
He pointed behind the castle. “There’s an enchanted forest right there.”
She knelt down. “Here?”
“No, over. A few inches to the left. Don’t you see it?”
He was…teasing her. It took her a second to understand just because it had never happened before. Not that she could remember.
She looked down to hide her smile. “I think I’ve got it now.”
He grinned. “Then get building, Cornell.”
Her first attempt was more like a molehill with a pointed top. By her second she’d learned to pack the sand more tightly, earning a brief nod from him. After that she worked steadily, forming the little conical pine trees in varying sizes. A vision sketched in her mind, of lush trees and woodland creatures, of fancy and imagination.
Kneeling in her oh-so-practical shoes was impossible, so she took them off. Her skirt hiked up her thighs as she scooted around the forest. Sand squeezed between the mesh of her stockings.
She hoped it would never come out.
When he finished carving arched windows, he stood back and dusted the sand from his palms. She trailed a finger down the last tree—this was how he’d feel, gritty and soft—before standing up to join him.
He was tall. His height shouldn’t have been a surprise; she was often the shortest one in the room. But she’d been equal to him on the ground, both of them dirty and eager in the sand. Now he was the tall, handsome stranger, and she the shy girl who hardly spoke.
She’d aced fluid mechanics, for God’s sake, so why should this matter? It didn’t, it didn’t. But her heart double-timed when she asked, “What do you think of the forest?”
With mock solemnity he studied the trees. They lined up neatly in rows like a Christmas tree farm she’d passed once in rural New York.
“It’s pretty,” he said, repeating her words. Then he smiled, almost shy. “Very pretty. Do you want to grab some dinner?”
Her breath caught. Had he just asked her out? It had sounded like that. Exactly like that. Her heart beat a rapid pace.
Daylight traced tiny lines radiating from his eyes, from the corners of his mouth. A smattering of blond hair covered the tanned skin of his chest, highlighting lean muscles beneath. Even the tips of his eyelashes were bleached, every part of him touched by the sun. A golden boy, a rippling-surface stereotype, while hidden depths lurked beneath. What would it take to dive under? In that moment she wanted to find out. Right then she wanted to drown.
But she’d had a lifetime of treading water, of survival. Only one answer made sense.
“I’m sorry.” Her voice sounded hoarse with disuse, as if she hadn’t spoken in years instead of seconds. “I’m not going to be here long. In Florida.”
She kicked herself. He hadn’t asked her to marry him, for God’s sake. He’d only wanted a date, and she should be able to do that. If she were more normal, she could have.
Fleeting emotions flickered across his face. Disappointment first, followed by others she couldn’t understand. But resignation—that one she recognized like an old friend.
“All right. Take care then.” His voice rang with finality. They would part now. She wouldn’t see him again, because she didn’t know how to be close to another human being. No textbook had ever taught her. No monthly phone call had told her how to feel.
Her face heated.
“You too,” she murmured. “I’ll see you around.”
But even that presumed too much. A slight shake of his head said no, she wouldn’t. His lips curved in a cold shadow of his former smile.
“Bye, Cornell.” He crossed the beach, heading for the water.
He walked right past the frothy edge and dived underneath, leaving only ripples in his wake. His head came up once for air, and again, and again, growing smaller, farther away.
She waited for hours. Or seconds, really. She stood with sand caked to her hands and her knees, feeling abraded and raw. Every other time in her life, she’d pretended not to want this. Friends and laughter. Easy camaraderie. Touch. Standing on the cooling sand, her stomach grumbling with hunger, she could no longer pretend.

Ahhhhh Ronnie & Kale... The very first time I met these two was a while back, and I just fell in love with their sweet sexy story! And I don't normally have time for re-reads, so when the opportunity came up to re-read this book I was totally excited!
Ronnie is a hot female tattoo artist who has a spicy attitude, and a great snarky mouth on her, she's awesome! But she's also flawed, her ex pulled quite the number on her with his blatant infidelity and total disregard to hold himself accountable. So she's obviously super guarded towards men, and has no intentions of letting any man--anywhere near her heart, or in her head.
Kale is a totally hot Soldier on leave from his tour in Iraq and he wants nothing more than to get a memorial tattoo to pay tribute to his fallen brothers. What he didn't realize is that the "Ronnie" he made the appointment with isn't some burly old man, in fact she's not a man at all! Kale is instantly attracted to Ronnie, and the feeling is so obviously mutual even though Ronnie refuses to admit it.
This is where the sexy-sweet angst take you on a ride through these two finally deciding on an arrangement. The chemistry is off the charts hot, and there is no way in hell that Ronnie and Kale will be able to keep their hands from one another. So they agree-- Sex only, no mushy love crap, no flowers etc... Kale will go back to his men in Iraq and Ronnie will move on with her life like nothing ever happened.
And I'm sure you're thinking you've read this kind of story before, but you haven't. I've read so many books with the same themes and genres that they all start to look the same after a while. But this book was different for me, it was perfectly sweet where it needed to be, and perfectly hot and sassy as well. I Love when Authors can take something as common as romance and still make me want to turn the page.
This is honestly one of my favorite little gems that I would suggest to anyone. It's just one of those books that makes me smile.

Book Blitz - Positively Mine (Freshman Forty #1) by Christine Duval ~ Excerpt, Ava's Review and Giveaway
Once inside, we start where we left off, shirts and jeans shed fast. Then we’re on my bed, and he’s kissing me everywhere, reaching his hand down to just the right spot. Jeez.
I shift and lean forward, trying to grab for his boxers. Mike moves too, so now his face meets mine, and breathless, he asks, “Do you want to?”
My heart is pounding. But when I look into his eyes, warm with anticipation, reality hits like a cold hard smack in the face. I’m pregnant with another person’s baby! I am horrible. Horrible. I push him away. I can’t hold the tears in.
Mike’s face switches from eager to alarmed. “What’s wrong? Are you okay?”
He keeps talking while the tears stream down my face, my lips squeezed together, trying to figure out how I’m going to explain. “What is it? Are we moving too fast? Talk to me.”
I can’t look at him, so I just stare out the window and blurt it out, “I’m pregnant.”
Mike sits up. “You’re what?”
I swallow hard. “I’m pregnant.”
“With whose baby?”
“He doesn’t go here.”
“Wow!” Now it’s Mike’s turn to stare out the window. “So you’ve gotten together with me twice all the while knowing you were pregnant with someone else’s kid? That’s bad, Laurel!”
I want to disappear. “I know.” I get up from the bed and pull on my clothes, waiting for him to say something. He just lies there. Too long.
When he finally speaks, the coolness in his tone is alarming. “What were you thinking?”
“I wasn’t. I don’t know. I like being with you.”
“Sounds like you liked being with the baby’s father, too,” he snaps.
I deserve that. “I’m sorry, Mike. I’ve been…”
“What?” he barks, anger clearly on his face now.
I’m feeling the tears coming again and try my hardest to swallow them. “I’ve been confused.”
He is up now and getting dressed. “Confused? What does that even mean?”
“Want to hold her?” she asks. I opt to pass. The baby’s head doesn’t seem to be on quite as tight as it should be, and I’d hate to be the one to cause it to fall off.”
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*
This book first caught my eye when it was released. I was intrigued to read about a young girl concealing her pregnancy whilst she attended college and all the problems that would arise.
I really enjoyed this story, I liked Laurel immediately and was drawn to her. I could empathize with her situation and I couldn’t blame her in the beginning for concealing her pregnancy from everyone. If you don’t acknowledge it, it’s not real, right? Wrong! For Laurel, time was getting on and she had the ultimate decision to make, does she continue with the pregnancy, does she consider abortion or does she give the baby up for adoption? This book was well written and informative. It was very well detailed and it could offer genuine help to anyone in a similar situation.
Laurel had made her decision but with that she still chose to bury her head in the sand and hide her pregnancy. She was yet to tell the father of the baby or anyone else for that matter. She gradually withdrew from campus activities and with the exception of Mike the hot friendly guy who was interested in Laurel, she didn’t tell a soul at college. I really liked Mike, his initial reaction to Laurel’s news was genuine and I felt for them both as the attraction was there but Laurel was in no position to take things further.
The other person Laurel was hiding from was her father. Ever since her mother passed away their relationship had been strained and Laurel’s dad thought providing Laurel with material things and sending her away with nannies in her younger years was the ideal way to parent. So every attempt Laurel made to tell her father was thwarted, by an argument with him or the introduction to his new fiancée or his own surprising baby news. Granted Laurel could have tried harder but she was still very much in denial and after all being eighteen and pregnant, Laurel was coping the best way she could.
Although Laurel coped very much on her own, there were some outlets of help and I’m glad she had these options, from the friendly doctor who looked out for her, to the college professor who worked it out and then offered support, to the friends Laurel made at the support group for young mums to be. Each one slowly helped Laurel find her own path and what she wanted to do.
This was a good New Adult novel, you won’t find a fast paced, smutty romance here but you will find a realistic account of a girl discovering her way into new adulthood. The story was well paced, it covered the full nine months with time jumps but it was done in such a way that I didn’t feel we missed chunks of time or felt it moved too fast. At the end when things got complicated and Laurel had no choice but to contact her father I was in tears. From the moment Laurel delivered her baby and had a heart to heart with her dad my cheeks were streaked, it was heart-warmingly sweet.
Now I must admit the ending left me hanging! I was invested in Laurel and her situation but I was left with unanswered questions; what will happen with the dad of the baby? What about Laurel’s future? And what about sweet Mike?? Although the ending was abrupt, it made quite an impact and left me wanting more! Positively Mine is book one of a series so a sequel is in the works and I really can't wait.
Positively Mine is a great début novel from Christine Duval, I really enjoyed her writing style, I read this book within a matter of hours and I look forward to what comes next from this author.
