"He May not believe in fate, but I do. And I know I'm fated to be with him."
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*
I had read the first book in this series therefore, I only knew a little of Rose's background, Rose is the sister of Lily who starred in book one. Rose is determined to fix all her sisters' problems. Their family business and reputation as well as their personal ones took a nose dive after Lily's sex addiction was exposed so Rose agrees to feature in a reality show in order to build up her business and show the public their real personalties. Of course there is a snake in the grass and that comes in the form of the slime ball producer Scott. (note: I DESPISED him).
It took me a while to get into the story, I felt I was missing some information at the start, it's advertised as a standalone so I was hoping for a recap of anything important from the previous books. I did get that to some extent with Lily's situation and Rose's business but what I really wanted to know more about was the beginning of Rose and Connor's relationship. They were already established at the beginning of the book and their relationship is far from straight forward so I did feel like a great chunk was missing for me as the reader. With that aside, the further I got into the story, Connor Cobalt worked his 'gift' on me and I was smitten, like head-over-heels, straight-to-the-top-of-the-book-boyfriend-list smitten. Yes I LOVED Connor and every girl needs to meet him!!
Rose and Connor were perfect together, I loved the strength in their relationship and the faith they had in each other, it really is refreshing to read about as usually in New Adult stories insecurity is rife and misunderstandings are plentiful. It made a nice change to read about a strong couple facing problems together and coming out of the other side stronger for it.
Connor is a book boyfriend like no other, his intelligence and confidence is sexy and the fact that he knows Rose is the one for him and he openly admits they will be together forever is womb clenchingly good to hear from a guy. Rose is no walk in the park, she has been hesitant to give all of herself to Connor for fear that he would leave her but Connor slowly works his magic and proves to Rose that he is in it for the long haul. And when that man takes charge, oh my! Those scenes where HAWTT! Have I mentioned I love him??
With reality TV came a whole lot of trouble. Rose moved into a town house with Connor, her recovering sex addicted sister, Lily. Lo, former alcoholic and Lily's fiancé. Ryker, Lo's half brother and Daisy, Rose's younger sister. There was plenty of drama with Lily and Lo fighting their addictions and avoiding triggers, Daisy getting herself into trouble and then Connor and Rose trying to keep everyone sane and safe. Then Scott the producer uses dirty tactics to mess with the house mates and tries his best to divert them off the sober path they have all fought so hard to reach.
There was really a lot crammed into this book. You had the story lines of Lily and Lo, Ryker and Daisy, Daisy and Julian her brief loser of a boyfriend, the reality show, Rose's parents, Connor's mum, Connor and Rose's businesses and then Rose and Connor themselves. It was all seamlessly weaved together to create an entertaining and engrossing story. I truly loved it!
I wasn't expecting the waterworks at the end and that was due to Connor and the journey he went on throughout the story. He was adamant in the beginning that he couldn't love as he had no point of reference, he was raised by boarding schools and his mother avoided him, so for Connor to let go of some of his dreams and realise what was important to him was so significant. I had guessed what he was going to do for Rose at the end and I loved him even more for that. For the first half of the story, I read with knots in my stomach as I was so worried Scott was going to ruin Rose and Connor's relationship and although he could have succeeded at the end with his heinous move, he didn't as Rose and Connor fought above it and came out stronger. I couln't have been happier with the outcome.
I love Krista and Becca's writing, this book was well-written and I loved the characters they created. The writing style set Connor and Rose apart. Connor was so self assured and that was visible from the descriptions and language chosen. Rose's characterisation allowed you to know every minute detail of her personality and I loved all her flaws and weaknesses as well as her strengths. Even the villain was written perfectly as I hated him with a passion and that's a testament to the writing. It was a job well done. I loved the chemistry Rose and Connor had, their intimacy wasn't in your face or vulgar yet this was one of the hottest books I have read. It's all in the detail and Krista and Becca write it in abundance.
I must admit, as I had previously read only the first book in the series I did feel a little lost with the plot in the beginning and events were revealed that had previously taken place so this did dampen the start of the story for me and I personally feel it can't be read as a standalone. That's my opinion after having read a small part of these characters previously so I felt I missed out chunks of the story. Perhaps others that haven't read any of this series can enjoy it as a standalone as they don't have anything to compare it to. With that being said, the more I read, the more I was hooked and I absolutely loved it. Now, I really can't wait for Daisy's story too!
If you are looking for an original New Adult story with drama, lies, steamy sex and overall entertainment then you really need to 1-click this today. You will fall in love with Rose and Connor Cobalt will rock your world!!
"I love the way he's staring at me. It makes me feel more than just beautiful. I feel like I'm his. Like no one else could possibly compare to me. He doesn't even have to say the words. I see it in his eyes. I can practically read it in his mind."
"You liked that," he says
"God...yes..." "God's not in this bedroom, Rose."
"I had no one before Rose. No true friends. No family, not really. Now I have her. I have people I care about. People that I want to protect.
Now I have everything.
The only thing about having everything is now you can lose it all."
"Let's finish this then," I say, rising with her, right by my side. Where I always want her to be."
About the AuthorsKrista Ritchie has a clone...or someone who looks exactly like her. If she's not writing books with her twin sister, she's pouring over entertainment news and ingesting copious amounts of pop culture. She likes tennis, that thing called the TV, and beating Becca (her clone) on Sega Genesis. She created YA Book Exchange to combat her book buying addiction and started Nawanda Files, a YA Book Blog that features books into movies news, to share her love for all things bookish. Oh, and she does something called science. Whatever that is. Krista & Becca Ritchie write New Adult books that make you cringe, gasp, and go ooh-la-la. (If you do that sort of thing.) They are currently working on the spin-offs and final books in the Addicted series.
