Title: The Effects of Falling
Series: The Weight of Rain Duet #2
Author: Mariah Dietz
Release Date: Aug 2, 2016
I have loved my best friend for eleven years.
Eleven years of celebrations.
Eleven years of victories and losses.
Eleven years of inside jokes and shared smiles.
Eleven years of helping him raise his daughter as a single father.
He smiles at me and my world brightens.
He ignores me and I forget how to function.
He holds my hand and takes more of my heart.
He leaves and time stops.
We have both lost too much, but am I willing to risk the effects of falling again?
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Once again, I continue to be in awe of this author’s writing. How much heart she puts into her characters and their stories. Just when you think you’re going to get a friends to lovers romance. Or a romance on unrequited love. Mariah GIFTS us with this story. One of love, hope, sacrifices, and finding out who you really are.
Summer meets Kash and they immediately click as they are in the world of BMX and have a lot in common. At the time of them just getting to know each other, Kash is a new dad and is dealing with drama of his love life and raising his daughter as a single dad. He doesn’t have room for love or a relationship in his life right now. With that being said, all they can be are friends. Summer stands by his side as his best friend for 11 years, and is there for everything including watching Kash raise his daughter and even meet other women. But none of these women are her. And it’s up to Kash to realize this.
Summer’s love for Kash goes unnoticed for a very long time…until it doesn’t. Until it can no longer be hidden. Her love for Kash simply bursts at the seams. But in this, Summer realizes just how much of herself she’s lost. And you know what? This realization changes her. And her love for Kash. And for the better. As I said earlier, while the premise of this book is a friends to lovers romance, it goes much deeper. It’s about knowing when to sacrifice and take risks, but also to know when it’s ok to protect your own heart. That despite the circumstances, love always comes back and finds you.
"Every single time, I choose you, and I will always choose you."
The writing is truly all consuming and simply breathtaking. The author crafts this story in a way that will capture your heart, keeps you turning those pages, and emotionally invested in the lives of these characters. The emotions are real. You feel just how much Summer yearns for Kash on a level that you probably didn’t know existed. The way she wants him. How much waiting is truly taking its toll on her. Kash realizes he wants her too. He’s been through heartbreak, but he needs her more than he ever thought possible. His need for her will leave you breathless. But can Summer really allow herself to continue to fall for this man?
The Effects of Falling was a fantastic read. I read it from beginning to end and found it very hard (impossible!) to put down. The storyline flowed effortlessly, while the characters are unforgettable and are forever etched into my literary heart. Love is a risk, but it’s worth that fall. Love never allows you to lose yourself and you end up finding that the ability to love is the most beautiful thing about you after all. I am so happy the author gave us Kash and Summer’s story. I look forward to what’s to come for this author.
The Weight of Rain (#1) – Released Oct 27, 2015
One night changed my life-one that I barely remember.
When I close my eyes, my mind paints a picture of his smile and shades the contours of his hands, the deep scar around his bicep.
I'm an artist, yet my hands are unsteady. With his presence, he has unknowingly broken that something inside of me that makes me who I am.
Being around him is like standing in a rainstorm. First the drops tickle my skin, and then they coat me, refusing to be ignored. Finally, they soak into me, reaching parts of me I don't think anyone has ever touched.
When dreams turn into reality, will the picture in my mind transfer to paper?
