I didn't read the synopsis before I started so I didn't know it was Ethan's father that kidnapped Katie until I read it as the story was going, which totally shocked me. Then I went to read the blurb and yep, there it was! It's a Monica Murphy book, I would read it no matter what. Maybe it was better being shocked by reading it as the story went on rather than knowing beforehand. Call me weird, but I'm glad it happened that way.
I'm not normally a fan of past and present views in books. But there is just so much to this story it made total sense and I enjoyed that aspect. It is also well layed out so I was never lost between the past and present. Maybe that's why I don't like stories like that, cause for the most part I have a hard time keeping up. But Monica did a great job with going back and forth, it gave the story a little more emotional impact I think.
It's definitely not a typical Monica Murphy book. I knew it wasn't going to be, but I liked it very much. Even if the subject matter is heavy and disturbing. There is a truly unique love story unfolding throughout all the mental turmoil going on for both Ethan and Katie. Fate is at play for these two. It's kind of awkward knowing what his father did to her and how Ethan is truly falling in love with her now. He has moved way past the protective boy he once was, It's so much more than that now.
It's a cliffhanger. But it's really not that bad. It's not like someone is lying on the floor bleeding to death and you have to wait 6 months to find out if they live or die. I do hope I don't have to wait too long for the conclusion though. Monica has definitely left me in suspense mode given what we know is coming, but we just don't know how it's all going to unfold!
