Sleep, it was luxury I didn’t have.
I could hear it then, in the dark light of night, in the dusky morning…
The click of the trigger, the smell of her blood, the sound of the rain.
I never thought I would see her again.
She was a ghost.
She was dead.
When Maggie Wright pushed her way into my life, she brought the phantom with her, and I was helpless to her pull.
Everything I had, all of it, had been taken from me ten years ago. I had nothing but the shirt on my back, the memories that still burned through my veins, and the regret I drowned in every day.
I am Ryan Hartford...and I have nothing left to lose.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Ryan Hartford is barely surviving. No longer living. He is forced to face a world that shattered his life many years ago on one dark rainy night. Now he is free and left to move on with the pieces he is left with. Maggie Wright has never been handed an easy life. However, despite her circumstances, she has made the best of each situation. Always looking for the silver lining. When she meets Ryan she recognizes a darkness that she can deeply understand. She’s drawn to him and is finding it very hard to let this pull towards him fade away.
“Maggie was like the needle of a compass. No matter how hard I tried to get lost inside myself, she pulled me north , up, toward the light…toward her.”
Maggie and Ryan’s story will astound you. Their story is a testament to the the strength of the human spirit. A testament to loving someone through their darkest parts. Their relationship develops over time. Maggie makes Ryan’s heart a little lighter. She reminds him that there is life after tragedy. That living, although painful, is what he must do to move on. And Ryan reminds Maggie that love still exists. That regardless of her past, she is worthy of love.
“You can’t save me, Maggie.”
“I don’t want to. I just want you…as you are.”
Sacred Hart was my first book of this author and definitely not my last. I hope to read more of her books. I enjoyed the pacing of the story as well as the character development. Maggie and Ryan’s story was emotional, but also inspirational. They loved through pain and darkness. And through their broken pieces. This was a beautiful love story that will pull at your heartstrings, but is so worth the journey.
“I’d been told once that two broken people didn’t make a whole, but I was okay with the outcome of out shattered pieces.
