Okay you can probably guess it was the cover that attracted me to this book, paired with the fact Nico was a MMA fighter. Yeah I love these kinda stories so I am not ashamed of judging a book by it’s very sexy cover I’m just glad the insides matched up
This was my first book by Vi Keeland and I must say, it won’t be my last. Worth the Fight was a very, hot, sweet, emotional read. I immediately fell in love with both Nico and Elle and their journey they had to make separately and together.
From the first page Elle is a likeable girl, she is going through the motions, successful in her career but going through life just comfortable, even her relationship with William is out of convenience rather than passion. Elle carries the guilt from her past with her, so she has convinced herself this is as good as life will get for her. But all that changes when she is introduced to Nico.
Nico, oh yes, hot hot Nico. I was head over heels when he first graced the page. A sexy MMA fighter with a tortured past and a broken soul?? Yes just send him straight to me Nico lets one event in his past rule the rest of his life. He can’t move on from the image that haunts him. When he meets Elle, she is like a breath of fresh air and he starts to breathe for the very first time in thirteen months.
“So no I’m not worried about the fight helping me heal from the past, because it’s you who does that for me. You’ve filled all the cracks in my heart and made me better.”
Elle and Nico’s pasts were very real and believable. I actually thought the events were original and brought something to the story I hadn’t read before. There was passion, drama and emotion. It was great to see the growth in both Nico and Elle as they let their guards down and let each other in. I liked that their past was similar yet completely different, it made each of them face their fears and want to move on to be together.
“And then he turns, and his eyes land directly on me. There is no search through the crowd, our eyes just find each other, like metal to a magnet, inexplicably pulled to each other without effort.”
I really enjoyed the supporting characters, like Preach and Regina and also Vinny. So I am looking forward to read Vinny’s story. This was an easy read, I finished it in a day. The pace was really good, there was no instalove, and a loving relationship was formed over time. I loved the way Nico was so protective of Elle. There were plenty of hot moments, especially the phone sex scene; HAWT! And I really enjoyed both Elle and Nico’s POV, it certainly added depth to the story.
I liked the fighting element in the story, we got to be ringside to witness the action but also it was a big test for Nico, it was him fighting against his demons and finding peace within himself. The action was high. And it ended on the perfect note, we were treated to a lengthy epilogue and that really did leave a smile on my face.
I like flitting between Adult and New Adult books, and I am glad I took the chance on Worth the Fight. You need to meet Elle and Nico for yourself!

If someone writes a book about a Mixed Martial Arts fighter then I can tell you without a doubt I’m going to read it. I have a weakness for fighters in any form, men with muscles and men with tattoos, and Nicholas ‘Nico’ Hunter had all of the above and more. I even updated my Goodreads status when I started reading this book with “Do not disturb! I’m spending the evening with a hot sexy fighter”, and Nico did not disappoint. I want him or one just like him.
Elle’s past means she has spent years suppressing her emotions. Her life may be boring, but it’s safe, and that is the way Elle likes it or so she thinks.
“No emotions meant that nothing ever got out of control, and keeping control was higher on my priority list than breathing. Until I met him” ~ Elle
Nico Hunte’sr last fight ended in tragedy, it still haunts him every day, as he is unable to forgive himself, even though it wasn’t his fault.
“I’ve spent the last year of my life under a cloud of guilt and shame. I went on, going through the motions everyday, but I was dead too.” ~ Nico
When Nico and Elle meet everything changes.
“The man knocks the wind right out of my lungs. He is quite possibly the most handsome man I have ever laid eyes on.” ~ Elle
“When I look in your eyes I see a little light flicker…And for the last twenty four hours all I could think about was what it would take for me to turn that flicker into a flame.”~ Nico
Elle is strong, smart and confident, and I liked her. Nico is hot, strong, sexy, rugged, handsome, possessive and protective, all man, you name it and Nico has it all in abundance, but at the same time, he has a soft side, he’s gentle and sweet, there is a vulnerability that made me just love him, yes he definitely stole my heart.
I loved the storyline, it was emotional and angst, funny with lots of hot sexy moments, especially the phone sex. Told from both points of view; I loved getting inside Nico and Elle’s heads. I connected to their emotions, and understood what they were going through.
“When we met, we were two injured souls, both keeping the real out of our lives for fear of what we might find. But nothing could have kept us apart.” ~ Nico
Both have their demons, and as I began to discover the reason behind their pain, my heart went out to them.
“Elle, run while you have the chance. You can’t fix me. I’m not some project for you to take on like charity. You’re better off with someone who is more like you.” ~Nico
“It’s not really a dream, it’s a nightmare. Although nightmares are a figment of a person’s imagination, so I guess what I just woke up to wasn’t a nightmare… it was reality. My reality. My memory. My past.” ~ Elle
Their relationship was passionate, deep and intense, I loved how honest Nico was, and how he brings out a different side to Elle. I liked their relationship, it takes time to develop it wasn’t all about sex as Elle and Nico take time to get to know each other they are able to let their guards down.
“I could have taken it further after that kiss. But I don’t want one night with Elle. I want more. I have one night with Elle. I want more. I have no idea why, but I do. A lot fucking more.” ~ Nico
“But his words, that’s what does me in. They’re raw and honest and filled with emotions, and I can actually feel my heart swell as they’re spoken.”~ Elle
I really enjoyed the secondary characters Preach, and Vinny are great, and I’m looking forward to reading Vinny’s story. I loved Regina she was a great friend to Elle, the support system that she needed and some of the things she did made me laugh.
“I’m relieved that I had removed the flavored condoms that Regina had shoved into my purse before I left yesterday. Bacon flavor. What woman wants to taste meat while, you know, tasting meat?” ~ Elle
I just love Elle and Nico they were definitely two broken lost souls who find each other, and have the chance to move forward, and make each other better. Their story was both heart wrenching and heart warming, and best of all it had a lovely sweet epilogue that I read with the biggest grin on my face.
This is the 3rd book that I have read by Vi Keeland, and as I loved the first two I had a feeling I wasn’t going to be disappointed with this one and I wasn’t. I love Vi’s writing style, it’s always engaging from the start. Her characters are such that you can’t help but fall in love with them. Oh and lets not forget the cover, I loved it.
If you are looking for a sweet love story, one that will pull at your emotions, then I strongly recommend you one click this and any other book by Vi Keeland as you will not be disappointed.
