“In an ideal world you only love the perfect man. But it’s not an ideal world. I love an imperfect man.”
*I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.*
It’s no secret a man named Remy stole my heart just over a year ago so I was part intrigued and part sceptical if another man from Katy Evans could live up to the same standards. Greyson King was all Alpha male in his own right and he had his eye on Brooke’s best friend Melanie for quite some time.
I really liked Melanie; she was a romantic dreamer and a girl after my own heart. Her best friend was settling down and living her own fairy tale. Melanie wanted that for herself, she had a vision of perfection and wouldn’t give up until she got her dream man.
“I know this with a certainty: I will never stop living my life, loving my friends, and looking for love. I know with a certainty that when I find him, he will be all that I dreamed he would be, perfect in every way. The perfect man for me.”
Melanie was a confident yet stubborn girl. She ran into some trouble concerning The Underground where Remy fought and she had debt collectors breathing down her neck. Melanie was too proud to turn to her friends for help and when she ran into Greyson, he was the perfect distraction to enable her to ignore her troubles for a while.
I liked the storyline and the way, in which Greyson was connected, it was cleverly done and it brought a gritty element to the book. Greyson wasn’t Melanie’s average Prince Charming but there was no denying the connection and craving they shared.
“It’s been a week, but as far as I’m concerned,” he cups the back of my head and nibbles on my lower lip, “I’ve been waiting a lifetime to sink myself in you.”
Although I thought Melanie and Greyson didn’t have the same intensity as Remy and Brooke, I did enjoy their story and read it in one day. Katy’s writing as usual, flows so easily and I felt for both Melanie and Greyson. I loved Greyson’s back-story and the letter at the end had me shedding a tear or two.
I would have loved Remy and Brooke to play a bigger part in the story, what can I say, I’m always desperate for more of them. Pandora played a bigger role in order to lead into her own story, I’m still on the fence about Pandora and I’m not sure I know enough about her to want to read on.
Rogue was full of mystery, action, hot sex and loyalty. It was refreshing to read something different from Katy and I was able to fall for both characters, wanting them to find peace but above all happiness with each other.
For lovers of the Real series, Rogue will not disappoint and you need to check it out today.
“Suddenly every fiber in m y body, my sober body, tells me he is the one. The one who’s going to wreck me. Hurt me. Demolish me. The one who is going to remove every inch of the girl in me. He will be the memory I will never forget, and good or bad, he will be THE one I dream of.”
“You’re going to be the death of me, princess, and I don’t give a shit anymore. I just don’t want to be the death of you.”
“Was!” I drunkenly correct. “Was your girl.” He laughs more darkly. “You are so fucking mine you don’t even know how mine you are.”
“I love my memories now. What a treasure to know who you are, who you love, what you did yesterday, what you hope for yourself for tomorrow. What a treasure to remember the day I met the man I love.”
A new Katy Evans book, hell yes was my thought! Katy’s REAL was one of the very first books I read that entered me into this crazy social media outlet involving BOOKS. Because of her I met some of the very best friends of my life. Friends that I know I will have forever. So this Author holds a very big chunk of my heart for that. Her writing just grabs you, and her one-liners are off the charts good. Some of my favorite book quotes come from her writing and with ROGUE she didn’t disappoint! Katy can write one hell of a sexy hot alpha male for sure, and Greyson is definitely THAT.
Greyson is Rogue by definition; he has a major bad boy reputation and skills beyond skills to back that up. He’s elusive and sexy and extremely keen to his surroundings. He knows what he wants and he gets it. His job is his livelihood and his crutch at the same time. He has an ultimate mission, but in order to get there he has to do some shady stuff. His end game isn’t so certain, especially when it involves a hot blond that he can’t get out of his head, and not entirely by choice. It’s a very sticky situation. He risks himself in order to find someone, and in return he’s sent through a ringer of emotions that might just make him lose everything. This book was totally action packed, and emotionally heartfelt.
Melanie is in a very sticky situation herself, yet she is reluctant to share this info with anyone. She also has a reputation and it’s not a good one. So when she comes into contact with Greyson for the first time she’s caught in a moment of lust. And then…the walls go up.
For the record, I just have to say it. Katy gets DIRTY in this book! I mean I’ve read some sexy stuff from her before but this was just HOT! She can make the dirtiest-sexy time scene sound almost clean if that makes any sense. It wasn’t slutty—it was sultry, it wasn’t nasty—it was classy! I love how she can turn the dirty-sex filled scenes into something beautifully romantic. It’s the words and the wording that just got to me. That is what makes the difference, but it was still hot and kinda-sorta dirty. IN A GOOD WAY.
So Melanie and Greyson go on a bit of a cat and mouse journey for a while. One bites, the other runs, one chases, the other follows etc… And it’s sweet and almost forbidden at times. Not forbidden in the natural aspect of the word. Forbidden because of both of their own iron clad walls. It’s as if they are denying themselves of each other for no other purpose than it’s just “wrong” because of their individual circumstances. I’m not gonna lie, I love the angst factor in that. THAT is what kept my page turning.
Here’s the thing with Melanie. She wants love so desperately. She sees what her best friend Brooke has and she wants that. And yes, you do get a little Brooke and Remy in this book, more Brooke but that’s to be expected. We also have her friend Pandora *insert scowl face* Pandora BUGGED me beyond belief in this book. I wanted to like her so much, but at every turn she was just so bitchy to Melanie and unsupportive at times. Pandora refused to be happy for Mel, and I just got mad! I know her intentions were good but she just seemed bitter and sour. I’m assuming that Pandora will have her redemption someday, but not today!
Mel and Grey were great together. And the story just flowed so well. It wasn’t just about romance and redemption. It was about finally accepting yourself for who you are and letting go of past ghosts that might still haunt you forever. It’s about the realization that sometimes the closest people to you might just be the worst cancer for your heart, and ultimately accepting that. You can’t fix everyone, and I think these two characters realized that. I really liked it a lot, and of course I would recommend it to everyone!
“I have a thing about man nipples”
Seeeeeeeee!!! I love her quotes!! There are so many other great ones too!
My Life in 8 Words: “Hectic, wonderful, complete; everything I ever wanted.”
Katy Evans grew up with books and book-boyfriends until she found a real sexy boyfriend to love. They married and are now hard at work on their own happily ever after. Katy loves her family and friends, and she also loves reading, walking, baking, and being consumed by her characters until she reaches “The End.” Which is, hopefully, only the beginning…
